Wow! Looking at the timelines of people from this thread is kinda depressing (for me, but good for you all!). I see filers at the end of January with July POEs.... people getting approved in 2 months. Sounds like youl filed back in the "Good ol' days!"

laughing.gif

Yes, but back then many of us believed that our petitions were taking too long and wished we had filed back in the 'good ol' days' of 2007 or 2006...

Sal is right. Last year went incredibly slowly for me. Since I have been in the US the months have flown by; I can't believe it's June already!

And, hello Sal, and everyone else! smile.gif

Personally I find it a little insulting to insist on another blood test, often fewer than six months later, for someone who has come here on a fiancé/e or spousal visa. TB, yes. Syphilis or HIV, though?

Omg, omg I cant believe it my results were totally clear and no treatment needed, my doctor is going to write to Knightsbridge doctors today to tell her it was totally clear.

I am so happy and relieved. Thanks everyone for caring and supporting me when I was so scared and worried.

You should come to Sheffield! good.gif We have so many roundabouts and one way streets here that people who've lived here for 40 years still sometimes get lost!

Everyone I know who has driven in this city calls it the worst place to drive in. laughing.gif

The UK has a much stricter driving exam and we all have to pass in a manual transmission car, yet we still permit Americans to come over here and drive for a year with their driving licenses. tongue.gif

Oh, I feel the same way bout the "title" of the online posting. One time, years ago, I changed the heading to say "Look At Me, Look At Me" laughing.gif Got all kinds of crazy hits that didn't apply to me at all!!! You are not alone in the restlessness, I hate when the economy is like this. I'm even heartfelt about Stephen coming here, knowing the job market is tight right now. He keeps telling me he doesn't care what job he gets at first, but that it will be easier to get another one having one to start with!

Houston weather??? I miss Houston weather ... I must be crazy!!!! After living there 6 years, I just got used to the heat & humidity!!!

laughing.gif I love this idea!

I know that in the UK temp staffing agencies can be very useful; although timing is also key. I try not to think about how I'll have to job hunt in the US because I'm really dreading it. wacko.gif I'm hoping to not only find a job, but to find a job that'll support both Alex and myself in California. Door-to-door is 26-27 hours for me, and the longest journey I've taken has been 72 hours; Gaye, you and Ricky have my full sympathy! I'm hoping that once I'm in the US I won't have to travel back to the UK every year but will manage to get my friends/family to visit me occasionally instead. wink.gif

Ticket prices are around $1600 for economy in the summer but in winter time they're only around $850 so I foresee a lot of Christmas visits. That is also why I'm planning to have my wedding in the autumn/winter-time.

It is, thanks - although roll on the weekend - I have some sleep to catch up on!

I see you're waiting on an interview date, too - hope that comes quickly for you!

So how are all of the Vermont filers doing with regards to packing and preparing to leave your country? Have you already started to ship/sell items or are you waiting until you have your Visa in hand? How much are you shipping?

I will start sorting stuffs when i get the visa and will probably hold a garage sale for some of my stuff and then donate some of it to our daughter churh at the mountains....

But of course I won't be going to the US till end of July or first week of August so there will be plenty of time for the packing, closing accounts and closing shops and everything.

Ricky might not be able to come here and get us anymore since it's a little financially impractical to do so at the current situation. We could actually save $2,500-3,000 from his airfare and expenses coming here, that is already the amount for our AOS.... So I may have to travel alone half way around the globe with the kids... travel time is between 18-22hours depending on airline and number of stops.

The thought is a little scary but I am a big girl, I know I will survive it... the kids can survive it also... i won't be carrying our luggages all the way anyway. blush.gif

It's a pity that Ricky can't come and accompany you on your trip but $2,500-3,000 is a considerable amount of money especially when going through the visa process! I'd have made the same decision.

I hope that you'll have a good trip; it's around 20 hours for me to travel to California, too, and it's so tiring! But at least flying is one of the 'easier' trips to make in that you have to carry your luggage for the least amount of time and you don't really have to think about anything, just follow the signs.

Awesome - I was wondering if I should have started sorting my possessions out already but I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who's waiting!

I'd love to be on a plane as soon as I have my visa but I have a feeling I'm going to have to be more practical about it, too! But it must be a very frustrating time for the USC - while the beneficiary is so busy with packing, selling, telling people and closing down all accounts/contracts the USC just has to wait and be patient!

Sally - laughing.gif I'm not taking any furniture either, and I don't have many shoes, but I do have a lot of books and DVDs and I'm wondering how much of that I can feasibly ship! I did think about shipping my PC but decided I'd be better off selling it and buying a new one (with a US-compatible power supply, of course). Do you know how to disassemble a computer? I've heard so many horror stories of trying to ship one (parts being shaken loose and destroying the innards) that I'd recommend packing each piece in its own box with lots of bubble-wrap!

If you were both my daughters, it won't matter whether you're eldest or youngest or only daughter or just one of the daughters, I would want to see you both in a beautiful wedding gown and to have the most beautiful wedding... especially since this will be the first time (and hopefully the last time and only time) that both of you would be getting married.

Amen to that! I love thinking of being able to grow nice and old with Alex. I have dated guys where the whole focus was on the present and who I could not see myself growing old with, but with Alex this is certainly not the case.

QUOTE
Seeing even one of her daughters wear a wedding gown is one of my mother's greatest frustration... and I will yet to fulfil it when we have our wedding (ceremonial wedding which will be a renewal of vows sort of thing) in the Philippines in 3-5years from now.

When you have daughters of your own, you will fully understand why mothers are making such a big fuzz about their daughter's wedding (in the same way that we only came to fully understand the immigration process now that we are going through it). Your wedding is not only a gift for yourself but also a gift for your mothers. So bear it all and be the most stunning bride ever. good.gif

I really hope that you can indeed fulfill your mother's desires and I am sure you will look stunning in a wedding gown when you renew your vows in the Philippines!

You are right...I've been thinking of the wedding from a rather selfish point of view and I forget that I owe it to my parents, particularly my mother, to look good, too...I'll do my best to look happy and beautiful (even if I am surrounded by slimmer, more beautiful friends!)

I tried to get away with just having a civil service, but my parents wouldn't have it. And after the planning started, I even said it would be so much easier to go to Vegas, but my mother immediately put an end to that. Being the only daughter has some challenges in the easy department for weddings!!! wacko.gif The other problem is I am the youngest "grandchild" as well, and I come from a rather large family, both my parents each have 5 other siblings, so my extended family goes on and on for miles!!!! When it came down to trying to create a guest list, it kept growing by family members laughing.gif In the end, we will be happy to share it with friends and family.

Bolded for 'applies to me'! I'm in pretty much the same situation - only I'm not the only daughter, but I am the eldest grandchild and the first to be married, which comes with its own pressures!

Here's another good April Fools:

QUOTE
Speaking of cake, a favorite joke of mine is to put a delicious looking cake in the office break room with "Happy April Fools Day" written in large letters in the frosting. Of course, the cake is perfectly fine and 100% edible, but no one will trust it. Its amusing seeing people staring it down, debating, and daring each other to take a bite all day long.

I like April Fools that aren't cruel or messy! A lot of jokes are one of the two, but the forums one and the cake one both seem good to me smile.gif

Hehe - there's a great April fools on another set of forums I frequent.

The administrator used me as the 'trigger'. When I started posting this morning my avatar had changed to an over-sized picture Kurt Cobain (normal avatar sizes are 64 x 64 px; this was 80 x 80 px).

Of course the size and subject matter was incredibly noticeable so everyone started commenting on it - 'hey why is your avatar of Kurt Cobain and why is it so huge?'

Well, turned out 'Kurt Cobain' was a trigger word. Whenever a forumer said 'Kurt Cobain' they were 'killed' - meaning their avatar also changed and they could no longer post in that forum. Instead, people who had been 'killed' gained access to a secret hidden forum. Pretty cool!

Since people were 'killed' they couldn't post to say why they were killed, so people are continuing to ask about the avatars and thus the infection is spreading. biggrin.gif

Woah - only 4 million people live in Alabama! That's quite the sparsely populated state. I know many other states have even fewer people living in them - quite hard to comprehend given the size of most of them.

Still, as much as I dislike the UK right now ...

Why do you dislike the UK?

After the excessive flooding of last summer (Sheffield was hit pretty badly) I'm finding the winter far too long and cold and the grey, rainy skies miserable. I'm also growing a little restless - I've lived in Sheffield for seven years and wouldn't mind a change of pace, although I suppose that could be easily achieved by moving to another city.

Some aspects of society worry me - I'm not at all keen on pretty much anything the current government has done (very frustrating that a general election hasn't been called yet) and job opportunities are scarce (although granted the US economy is pretty poor right now). I would also be lying if I said that I wasn't slightly perturbed by the growing rate of violent crimes as reported in the media, too.

Dislike is perhaps too strong a word - but I'm certainly looking forward to experiencing life in a different country. yes.gif

Well, admittedly I have never been to The Netherlands, but I hear nothing but good things about it. And, true, the long flights and hour differences are going to be annoying - strange to think I may see all of my friends and family once every other year or so. Still, as much as I dislike the UK right now it's nice to know that in the future Alex and I will have the option to return, and that our children will be able to have dual citizenship.

It just struck me that you'll get to divide your lives between The Netherlands and Hawaii - sounds like an idyllic combination to me! Actually I suppose that we are all very lucky - few others get such a combination of cultures as are found on VJ.

I've had about four hours sleep. I haven't looked in the mirror yet but assume I look terrible.
