If my mother can't fly she said she'd do her best to attend by boat/train - although I hope that doesn't happen because it'd be an awfully long journey. And I think many mothers' minds jump to 'children' when they hear talk of 'marriage' - I've tried to explain that it won't be happening for a couple of years yet!

You may not have a super-fast approval but so far you're within the average timeline for VSC - hopefully it won't be delayed beyond that! Keeping busy is a very, very good tactic though.

I'm down in London on the Saturday night for my dad's birthday - having a meal, tour and concert at the Royal Albert Hall and then sharing a hotel room with my sisters. Should be good fun! good.gif

All's good, thank you good.gif

Still panicking a little bit about money, as always! I'm slowly defeating my credit card (£500 left on it, now) but after that's paid off I still need to find the money for everything else - plane ticket, train tickets to London, visa/medical costs...

I'm quite unusual in that my mother doesn't mind me leaving at all - it's my dad who minds! Although my parents have always maintained traditional roles and my mother is very motherly, she has this way of dealing with her children whereby when we're at home we're reduced to being 18 years old again, but when we're away from home she says she doesn't particularly miss us and while she's always delighted to receive the weekly or monthly phonecall she doesn't go to great lengths to maintain contact with us. I think still having a couple of children at home means she doesn't miss the older ones quite so much - I imagine that when all her children have fled the roost that she'll feel differently.

Also, although she can't fly (although she's having that checked out) and hasn't explored a great deal of the world, she finds it quite exciting when her children travel/move to different countries. Whereas my dad is a homebody at heart - after he had graduated from university he only looked for jobs in his hometown. A lot of his family are happy to live very close together and I think he's a little bit baffled as to why his children don't feel the same way.

There - I'm rambling again. tongue.gif Sorry, all!

How are you doing, Saffyre? I am still keeping my fingers crossed for you! I'm hoping you receive your NoA2 any day, now!

Good luck, psiprez! Hopefully by announcing your engagement your parents will see that you really are truly serious and will be willing to support you.

Do you have a copy of your petition to maybe show them? I don't know if it would work for you, but I know my dad was very dubious about my marrying Alex until I showed him the petition and how much work we'd done on it. When it was presented to him in that way and he saw our letters and the filing fees he realised that I must obviously truly love Alex if I was willing to go to such lengths to be with him.

Wishing you all the best! star_smile.gif

Wow, what a fantastic achievement, Kim!

You look fabulous!

Your tips are really good, too...especially about not skipping breakfast/lunch (skipping breakfast was my downfall in my teens - how I wish I hadn't done it) and drinking plenty of water and staying positive - three things a lot of people forget to do. I love seeing sensible weight loss!

The thought of people studying our petitions still creeps me out a little, to be honest.

Alex and I are both pretty shy people and having to write the explanation of how we met and having to submit photos and e-mails/letters was excruciatingly painful! I just have to remind myself that hundreds of other couples have also submitted petitions and have had their relationship examined, too, and that the USCIS people are too busy to afford to spend time reading any part of the petition (other than the forms) too closely.

Well Rachel as long as you didn't include any of "those" pictures to prove a bona fide relationship laughing.gif then I don't think they'll spend much time reading through your file. I've read that when it comes to adjudication, they don't spend much more than 15 minutes. Of course if you sent really really really good "those" type pictures, you will receive many touches for months as it gets passed from adjudicator to adjudicator. I think you'll be ok tongue_ss.gif

They probably keep "those" pictures.... wink.gif

If they're really good, you'll probably get an RFE asking for more pictures!! laughing.gif

I'm with youon that 100%. Toby and I are very private about our relationship and we don't go in for public displays of affection or lengthy emails describing our love for each other etc. Having to do this for a stranger to review just felt embarressing and intrusive. I just know that in the long run it's worth it

That it is - and we have to keep clinging to that knowledge!

That's a shame - I hope your mother and sister can make it!

We were originally thinking of having a small legal signing-of-papers and then a big celebratory party later on, but have decided to just go for a small ceremony - I'd like it to be my first and only, too.

We haven't even thought of where to have our celebratory wedding...just having a civil ceremony to start the paperwork for AOS and EAD...but I do want the whole wedding/reception thing too (first marriage for both of us...)..both sets of parents are retired and on a fixed income, so we're going to have to do it ourselves...it's going to be small, but we'll have a blast!!!

Same here! I wasn't so fussed about the wedding/reception, really, but family and friends are - I'm the first child of my parents and first grandchild of my grandparents to be married, so it's important to them. Ours is going to be as small as possible, though - our parents aren't retired, just tight of budget. The most important thing is to have fun!

I love that you can have outdoor weddings in the US - in the UK the places in which you can conduct a wedding are very limited; it has to be indoors and the place you wish your ceremony to be held at has to have a license saying that they are permitted to hold weddings, too.

But aren't you getting married in the US too? I forgot who among janaury filer have shared about having a small backyard barbeque wedding.. i have really been considering that since I heard it from her...

as of now, me and Rick have check websites of possible venues. mostly parks in Raleigh area.. he'd be going there and be taking pictures of those places and also ask if it is possible to have wedding there.... .. but i was specific that we chose a place that is really affordable, i'd even be ok if we go up the mountains and hold a ceremony there for free.... an outdoor wedding with barbeque reception sounds really good for me. yes.gif

Haha - that was me! I know, I'm just saying that's what I love about getting married in the US. smile.gif

Alex's dad does the best barbeque - mm, he makes the best marinades and the meat is always so tender.

What's more important is those who already got approved have stayed on to continue cheering us who are still on the waiting list. And those who are waiting still have the positive attitude to be happy for those who are getting approvals. And even our CSC counterparts have been around giving their congratulations and support to those who got approved. And that somehow provide a more positive vibe for us all.... being positive and staying positive is what we do need to see this through.. that will be hard without the support of each one of us here. Well, let me clarify. It's unfair BUT I don't think that should stop Vermont filers from celebrating at all!

It's also unfair when someone who filed in a later month is approved before someone who filed in a previous month. But that's the luck of the draw - I think you just have to accept that and be happy for those that are approved. We all wait longer than we'd like to be approved, and we all know that we're taking a chance.

I agree, though - none of you have been insensitive and it's wrong that someone took offence at this thread.

I would feel strange calling it a 'wedding dress' since it's not the classic big white dress. It's knee-legnth, black with a white floral print, and is very flattering on. Perfect for our quick little civil ceremony! I plan to stop by the florist and get a simple bouquet of a few bright flower, like maybe gerber daisies tied with a ribbon.

Yep, that's all we need. (though our NOA2 would be nice... wink.gif )
