I hardly ever talk to anyone at work!

But that's the way I like it. I work best with no distractions - no music, gossip or background noise.

I think I would find it hard being in the house, though. I'd have to have a very clearly delineated 'office' space.

While I understand the aggravation teachers have to put up with, you have to admit their schedule is pretty cool.

I'm an engineer for Philips and I feel like something is wrong if I have a day off!

Oh boy - I'm not looking forward to working longer hours and having fewer holidays in the US! Not to mention poor maternity leave/benefits...I haven't completely ruled out moving back to the UK at some point in the future.

Teachers can certainly have a rough time here. Not just from the children, but also children's parents! There are few rights for teachers and you do hear some horror stories, and to be a good teacher you really have to have an extremely strong personality. It takes a special person to be a teacher; I could certainly never do it! Of course, I don't think everyone is cut out to be a teacher no matter how angelic the children are, but it seems a shame that unruly kids are almost expected at schools.

However, what my teacher friends/relatives have found the hardest is the sheer amount of paperwork and bureaucracy...I don't know how it is in the US, but it's almost impossible to do anything without first filling in a bunch of forms! My aunt taught special needs for several years before having her own children, and after her children were old enough to attend school themselves she tried going back to work - but in that short amount of time the paperwork had more than tripled. You can't lay a finger on a child - even if it's to help them, i.e. with a cut - without first filing a report.

As a side-note, I can't believe it's March already!

It does move slower. That's why you're suppose to enjoy childhood. wink.gif

B-b-but I hated school and suffered from years of sinus headaches!

The rest was pretty good, though.

There are many things I used to do that I wish I still did now, like read and draw a lot.

greeneyedgirlfl - good luck! I am full of admiration for teachers, you're all overworked and underpaid and do a very valuable job. good.gif

Congratulations IrieCat! Wow, how many approvals from Vermont have we had this week? It's absolutely crazy!

All of us sorry CSCers are going to be talking about our NoA2s while you're all having your weddings tongue.gif

As for dresses...well, my mother's friend made my mother feel guilty for not taking enough of an interest in my wedding, so this evening my mother has asked if I'd like to go dress shopping with her next week when I visit my parents. It'll be a simple dress, however, as I'm having a garden wedding (well, more of a BBQ backyard wedding).

That's a really lovely dress you've chosen, KitEEgirl!

For a while I thought of going back to the US before I get the visa, but then we figured it would probably be best if we saved that money for the months after the marriage, when I can't work. and that way, I can spend my vacation time with my family instead. Since I won't see them for a while after, I'm sure they will appreciate.

yes.gif That's what we figured - although we probably could afford another visit, we'd be far better off having the money for when I am there permanently.

To be honest I'm rather hoping I'm not a 90 day wonder! I'm starting to worry about having saved up enough money for my move to the US...if it's delayed a couple of months that's another two months' precious earnings!

So I'll wish you all the best and say I hope you all get approved in around 90 days and that I'm very happy to be January's glutton for punishment laughing.gif

Welcome!

We included:

- Stamps in passports
- Plane tickets and train tickets from 1 1/2 of the 3 trips (I hadn't kept anything from the first trip, and we completed the package while I was in the US and didn't have return tickets)
- 5-6 photos of us together
- Mobile phone bills (3 of them, to show a cross-section)
- About 6 e-mails (again, a cross-section)
- 4 letters

Fortunately I managed to get Alex to write 'none' in blank spaces on the forms before he sent it out, although I'm still terrified of getting a RFE for whatever reason!

Welcome Cecile and Bryan! The more the merrier I say.

We got our NOA1! Woo!

They misspelled my surname! Boo!

Seriously, how the hell did they misspell my surname? It's five letters long, it's one of the most common English (and American) surnames and it's also a colour! It was right on the forms, too. Alex's surname is Russian and unusual, but it seems they can spell that.

Anyway it's been corrected and they say we should receive confirmation of this within 45 days. Hope it doesn't delay our application...

Hey I live in the bay area too! I do love it here, although last week's little storm wasn't a lot of fun. We still have traffic lights out over that.

Fortunately I/we missed the worst of that, but I have heard from several annoyed friends who've been without power for a few days! We actually had a Bay Area meet up with people from another forum the day before the storm arrived, and the morning after (several guys slept over) everybody's mothers were ringing them to make sure that they'd be home before the rain started - and these were all grown men between the ages of 19 and 25! Bless.

But yes - I love the Bay Area and it's great to hear from other people who reside there. Funny how I used to have zero interest in even *visiting* the US...and now I'm going to be moving there!
