Hello Blake!

Sorry to hear you're having to work such long hours. sad.gif

Great news about Olga's dress! I hope we're going to have pictures later. biggrin.gif

And yes - it's great that most of us are having our interviews within two months of each other (but sunny needn't worry about being left behind as I'm sure she'll be approved and Gareth will be flying to the US before me!).

I haven't heard anything from Knightsbridge Doctors so I am assuming my medical results were clear. smile.gif I was 99.99% certain that I didn't have TB, HIV or Syphilis, but it's always nice to have it confirmed!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
Ooh, a new car! That's going to be so much fun! biggrin.gif

I do think you look good blonde! Then again I haven't seen what you look like as a brunette. wink.gif I enjoy dyeing hair to have a change, too; but other people don't usually appreciate me dyeing my hair various colours. My mother still looks at me inquisitively every time I see her and asks, 'is that your REAL colour?' I only ever used temporary dye but she swore blind for a year after I'd dyed it that she could see some residue!

Alex's debts aren't too bad - less than a month's salary - but we're going to be living on such a tight budget that if I can help clear it then it'll mean we'll actually have an allowance for entertainment - perhaps a new game or pair of cinema tickets, which would be lovely!

Oh - and I am definitely taking Alex's surname. I must admit I like the idea of passing down a good name, too, and Alex is the only son in his family with his surname. My name is horrible and common and there are more than enough males to pass it on down!

Having said that - my dad has two brothers and yet both brothers have only had daughters (6 in total). So it's interesting to see how you can have many children and be very prolific and yet the name can still be in danger of not being passed down!

Aah! That's a wonderful date. smile.gif 8 is definitely your lucky number! I feel/felt the same way about 11 but unfortunately we can't have our wedding on this date. sad.gif

dbears - I love those hairstyles!

I think I'd like mine up for photos, at least, but I'd like it to be fairly soft.

lazulineiris - thank you for the congrats! And the 4 weeks don't bother me as I'm not flying out until November anyway...sigh. Still; MONEY! I'm hoping to have enough to pay for wedding food, pay off Alex's credit cards (he's going to owe me tongue.gif) and pay for a few...extra things. wink.gif

Ack! My next dilemma is when to buy plane tickets. wacko.gif The prices are only going up...but if I were able to wait a week or so before I wished to fly I could maybe get cut-price tickets. Worth the risk? I have no idea!

Hurrah for driving! biggrin.gif

The necklace sounds wonderful. smile.gif

I have no idea what to do with my hair either! I think up can be less troublesome and look more elegant, but I think I would only wear it up if I could cover my shoulders.

That's awesome! Isn't that really quite good for Morocco, too?

Rachel Gareth wanted me to ask you what all you carried along with you to your interview as far as papers to have on hand and if they asked to see any of it....he is getting quite the collection together he said he is going to have a rubbish bin liner full of papers to bring hahaha! Thanks!

I took along:

Copy of original petition
Affidavit of support
Duplicates of all forms I sent to embassy
Two American passport photos
Few more e-mails (this was the only supporting evidence I took of our relationship)
Updated letter of intent to marry from Alex
Police certificates + photocopy
Birth certificates + photocopy

They took from me:

Affidavit of support
Duplicate of form DS-156 (SO glad I took a copy! I had one just in case but didn't realise they would need it!)
Both passport photos
Updated letter of intent to marry from Alex
1 original police certificate (new - definitely get the new type) + 1 photocopy. They handed back the original later and kept the photocopy.
1 original birth certificate + 1 photocopy. They handed back the original later and kept the photocopy.

They did not ask to see anything else. No more photos, e-mails, letters...nothing. smile.gif

dbears - you were right, Alex's dad's affidavit of support was not needed. Glad I had it, though.

Re. the Affidavit of Support: Alex submitted one tax return, which they didn't seem to count, several pay-stubs, a letter from his employer and his bank statements. His dad also submitted no tax returns. I thought this was going to be a problem at first as the lady wrote down on a form 'No tax returns submitted'. Fortunately it all ended up being okay! So I guess London does not necessarily require tax returns as long as you submit plenty of everything else. smile.gif

Congratulations Jeroen! So sorry to hear you had all that hassle but it's all over now! kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif

I was approved! Well, pending medical results, of course. I'll know for definite Monday but I'm pretty sure my medical results will be clear. wink.gif

Medical was fine. There was only one other person there, very quiet, doctors very friendly.

Interview was also fine! I'll do a full report later. First woman who took all my forms was rather severe and serious, but the man who actually interviewed me was all charm. He turned out to be from San Jose originally, so he was sympathetic to me from the start!

He asked me:

Does he have any children? (This was first!)
How did you meet?
How many times have I been to San Jose?
Has Alex visited my family?
Have I been to Santa Cruz? (Okay, that wasn't really an interview question! biggrin.gif)
What does Alex do for a living?
How long has he been working there?
Where does he live? (I gave his new address which they don't have yet but he didn't pick up on it, so I think this was a more casual question.)
How many brothers and sisters does he have?
What is the age difference between Alex and his brother and his sister?
What did I plan to do once I was in the US other than marry Alex?
Did I realise San Jose was really boring? tongue.gif

That was pretty much it!

Thank you all! I'm just sitting here at work, waiting for the day to end. I probably won't be online until Friday, but I shall text Alex and ask him to update you.

Not really nervous - too tired for that. Looking forward to the train ride; it'll be a chance to catch up on some much needed sleep. sleepy.gif

Hopefully he is approved, or nearly approved by now! smile.gif

Right, I think I have everything. Well, except my glasses. I don't really need them but I'd rather not navigate London without them so I'm returning for them this lunchtime.

Worrying that the lack of tax transcripts will become a problem. For some reason Alex's dad was really reluctant to give any tax transcripts, so I only have a letter from his employer and his bank details/statement as evidence for the affidavit of support.
Alex & RachelFemaleEngland2008-08-12 03:58:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
Well, you would check yes because you do, at some stage, wish to apply for a SSN. It doesn't mean you'll be given the SSN there and then. smile.gif

I didn't fill out part 2 of that form, by the way, as the London embassy said not to. That might just be the London embassy, however.

Pam - that's my fear, too. Not too nervous about the interview itself, but very very nervous about forgetting something!

Anyone know what your photo is used for? See, I have some photos but they are horrid ones of me! I can't bear to look at them. If they're just going to be kept by the US government for their records I don't really care, but if it's going to be put on my visa or in a file for me to keep I might think about redoing them. tongue.gif

Well, my memory is pretty appalling at times. blush.gif Fortunately because I had to write it down on the forms the exact dates and details have been ingrained into my mind, otherwise yeah, I'd be the kind of person to trip up completely by accident!
Alex & RachelFemaleEngland2008-08-07 11:44:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
My biggest nightmare is forgetting something on the checklist! Other than that right now I am not too concerned. London doesn't ask too many questions, I have nothing to hide, and I shouldn't need to revise (like you would for a job interview) because I know my own story pretty well! wink.gif

However I just know that waiting in the room before being called to a window will be torture! There's something about waiting rooms that really gets to me.

Re. SSN...I'm going to try for after marriage, as I'd prefer my SSN to be in my married name and it seems a little pointless to go through the hassle of getting everything in my maiden name and then have to change it.

Wedding planning is interesting. It's going to be up to me to provide/pay for all food apparently, so I'm definitely going to have to stay until November/Dec and earn money.

Thanks Pam! Yeah it says not to send phone bills and letters and such but I think I will include some extras anyway! So far I have the 12 pics, mapquest of the distance we lived apart when I was there LOL, military orders stating my being there (with ex hubby haha naughty naughty), a paper of me setting up an account over there at the military base dated the month him and i started dating, color copies of my military id card and also UK drivers license I had while there, and Gareth is sending over some bills dated around that time so they know he was living in the UK too at that time LMAO....I think I will also make copies of a letter I wrote him on my last day there and similar things like that. We have concert ticket stubs but none have our names on them so how could we prove we went together ya know? Gareth and I were talking as I was getting things together and I mean honestly any and all "proof" they want can be made up ya know? I mean if people REALLY wanted to....so it is silly to have to keep sending this stuff but oh well I shall do whatever I can to be with my love!!!!!

These are good. good.gif

Do you have any receipts from British stores? Those could also be useful.

Did you book plane tickets online? Even if you do not have the stubs you might still be able to acquire a copy of your itinerary.

Thanks Rachel!

Your dress sounds really pretty. Do you have pic?

I decided to design my own and have it made smile.gif Still in progress.

On another note, I cannot wait to get to the point where you are right now: cancelling memberships n stuff! luv.gif

No picture unfortunately. sad.gif I tried googling but nothing came up! I'll try and persuade my mother to take a photo of it and send it to me - it's gone home with her.

Designing your own dress sounds like a fantastic idea; both personal and unique!

I'm surprised I have a dress so soon, actually! It's not what I was looking for at all. But it was such beautiful material and such a bargain price that I had to try it on. My mother thinks it looked good on me and when she and my aunt returned to the store my aunt also liked it and persuaded my mother to buy it. It is not a 'dream dress' or anything but then I was never expecting to find my dream dress.

Next weekend my friend is coming up to visit and as she's an excellent shopper I'm planning to ask her help in finding me a jacket to wear with the dress.

I'm not leaving the UK for a while but I've started to cancel all my memberships already as I'm moving to live with my parents soon. Also many memberships require at least 30 days' cancellation notice.

QUOTE (sunnybear @ Aug 1 2008, 12:40 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Rachel you could also see about having some elastic put in with a new zipper! I bet that would do the trick and wouldn't even be noticeable! I loved Monsoon when I lived in England such pretty things in there!!!!

I've always loved Monsoon but it's generally too expensive a shop for me. Fortunately it's sale season right now!

That is another good idea - hopefully I'll be able to do it up, though!

I'm going to be joining weightwatchers and my sister's gym (provided they allow guests/short-term memberships) when I move back to my home town, plus my mother will be watching my diet with a hawk eye, so here's to losing a little weight. wink.gif

We're still waiting for our packet 3 (late 3.5 weeks already). Let's keep our fingers crossed and have a super great day!

I hope it arrives soon! good.gif

I'm glad you were able to enjoy a month with your fiancé!

I...sort of have a wedding dress.

I went shopping with my mother and cousin in Nottingham and found a dress in Monsoon that had been reduced from £200 to £45. Strapless, floor length, fairly simple lines. The material was really lovely, a light patterned silk. I didn't want a strapless dress but my mother said it looked good on me and that we could buy a jacket to match.

The only problem is the zip wouldn't do up all the way. My mother didn't want to tug on the zip too hard in case it broke. There was about an inch of unzipped zip. The trouble is because it's strapless, going up a size would've meant it would be too big. My only option is to try and lose an inch off my bust by December (or maybe find someone to let it out slightly). Anyway I've taken a chance and asked my mother to buy it today as it was a terribly good price (and very nicely made).

Alex - such a long delay is certainly not normal. CSC does take a little while longer than VSC to ship petitions to the NVC but even so 2-4 weeks is more normal, not 7-8. I'll echo Jeroen and recommend that you ring CSC as soon as possible. BTW, congrats on having an awesome name. wink.gif

Well, I must confess that I missed the internet this weekend. I texted Alex constantly until twitter told me I had reached my limit (I text him through twitter so as to only pay local text costs and not international text costs whistling.gif ). He's also feeling lonely in his new apartment. I'm beginning to regret setting a wedding date in late December and I'm leaning towards flying out early in October, which would be the earliest feasible date, regardless of cost. Blake, you were right!

However, lack of internet aside, it is so lovely to be at my friend's house. She's already left - she left Friday - and it is just me and her cat. I am allergic to him but as long as I remember to shut my bedroom door and wash the bedcovers regularly I shall be fine. I spent most of the weekend thoroughly cleaning her house and doing laundry. My boxes were rather taking over her living room so I've piled them up in the corners and artfully disguised them with throws so as to make them less obtrusive. Now I have six weeks of no longer worrying about being too quiet, or too noisy, or having to share the internet, or wondering whose food is whose, or feeling that I am in everyone's way. kicking.gif
