Oh - I'm not expecting presents anyway, which makes it doubly-worse that my future-MIL wants us to make a registry too!

Thank you for the good luck wishes, dbears - and aren't our men silly. Sometimes having a webcam isn't necessarily a good thing, because no one does the whole pouty-face puppy-dog-eyes better than Alex tongue.gif

Looks like I may be battling with the future in-laws over wedding plans. They reckon a pot-luck wedding would be okay (I don't) and would also like us to make a registry. Eek!

Then you'd better keep that screenname wink.gif

Actually I think a pot-luck wedding could be fun, but I'd be too scared of what people would bring!

Yes, no changing it now! blush.gif

I wouldn't be scared of what people would bring, it's just that I think I'd find it too informal even for an informal wedding. Also, Alex's side of the family would probably be the only guests to bring dishes, as my side of the family obviously wouldn't have access to a kitchen, not to mention they'll have already spent a lot of money on flying.

Plus, I think it's bad etiquette for people to feel that they have to bring a dish and a present. I mean, it's wrong to expect a present in the first place, asking people to bring a dish as well seems even worse!

What do people think? Name change or no?

If I had a nickname for Alex the last thing it'd be would be bear. laughing.gif He's an inch shorter than me and weighs considerably less (I'm not that overweight, he's just really slender!) I do get called bunny, though. Last summer I sent him a Steiff stuffed rabbit from Hamley's in London (awesomely huge toystore) - if he can't always have me, at least he has one snugglebunny.

Yes - I am sure we would love Olga (after all, we love you, Blake - and like attracts like) and would certainly welcome her! It is funny how few couples actually post together - it's usually just one half making all the posts. Oh well!

Ah, the day started so well. Was woken up by the sun pouring in through the window - my curtains are white and flimsy so let all the light through. My friend phoned to ask if I wouldn't mind going over to hers to help her lay bricks - she's building a garden wall. I said yes, thinking it would be a therapeutic way to spend an afternoon, only a half hour later the skies had turned a dark grey and the rain was pouring down.

It was miserable for the rest of the day, so instead I baked bread which I took to hers (we ate it while it was still warm - yum!) and then we curled up on the sofa and watched a movie. After that we went to the pub (her boyfriend wanted to watch the football match, and she has no TV license) and had a cup of tea while reclining on the leather sofas. I must admit I rather like smoke-free pubs (a smoking ban in all public houses was passed last year). It was a good, if lazy, day. smile.gif

Speaking of food and diets:

Anyone using gmail knows that google places adverts to one side of the e-mail which are based on the e-mail's contents - just as the google ads here draw upon the contents of the page you have open.

So in my usual nightly e-mail to Alex yesterday I talked about the meal I'd eaten with my friends - didn't so much as mention a diet! - and I received the following adverts in my sent folder:

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
Quick and cheap!

Between 20-40 people (I really have NO idea!), held in Alex's parents' back garden, and home-made food/BBQ (at least, I'm really pushing for the BBQ). My parents, most of my siblings (the twins and one of my brothers want to attend, my other brother and sister don't but probably will under pain of death from my mother tongue.gif ), hopefully four of my friends + boyfriends and a couple of family friends will be flying over to attend. It's a long way to travel so I think most people are going to try and make a proper holiday of it. In the run-up to the wedding I'll probably be acting as tour guide and attempting to divide my time equally between all the guests. It's going to be hectic!

The problem does lie with trying to judge when the visa will be approved. I was originally going to go with a wedding date roughly 6 months from our NoA2 but I'm concerned that that may not leave us with enough time. I've tentatively suggested sometime in February as a new wedding to Alex although he's not very happy at that thought. I'd probably fly out on Christmas Day if that were so - cheap flights and empty airports!

Sigh...today is going slooooowly. I did bring my DS into work although I don't always like to play it - doesn't seem very professional! The great thing about secretarial work is the way you can obsess over the details. I can get a real bee in my bonnet over the most inane things. I just spent a good half-hour formatting a word document so that every indent aligned perfectly and it looked as neat and professional as possible. I can get unnaturally frustrated over improperly aligned/arranged word documents. tongue.gif

Blake - I shall definitely have a look out for it, although I'm not too well versed in the knowledge of ales! I've just drunk what my dad drinks - Old Speckled Hen and Abbot's Ale.

Oh goodness, my stomach dead.gif I made the mistake of going round to a friend's for dinner...mini chocolate donuts and dried pineapple while we waited, then an apple and feta salad, followed by huuuuge portions of lasagne (bolognaise, spinach, courgette, carrot and mushroom) and then chocolate melt pudding with tiramisu ice-cream and raspberries. As per usual it was a joint effort - collaborating with my friend (slim, athletic) and my housemate (also slim, athletic - where do they pack it all away?) over meals is deadly for one's diet.

Obsess? I don't know what that word means whistling.gif

Good Morning all and welcome to this thread Sunnybear. I agree with you on the difficulties in dealing with the highs and lows. They can be spectacular at times. The only thing I've noticed is that I've gone into a pretty comfortable numb period - at least until I move closer to approval, then I'm sure the rollercoaster will speed up again. It is good to see you again Rachel, I hope you had a good time away from the computer. Could someone post the website for the Chinese dresses or is that only through e-bay. I hope everything will be organized once the NOA2 arrives - but with school starting for Olga's son, finding a way to ship her belongings from the Ukraine to the US, getting the visa and making flights.....and getting a wedding organized, I have a feeling stressful times are ahead. Honestly, I really don't know how I'd be able to handle all this without the advice and support from people on this site. I feel for those trying to do this alone.

Me thinks that the bartender at the local pub will be able to afford that addition to his house he's always wanted after all laughing.gif

yes.gif That's the best way to describe it.

Hey - at least if you're going to the pub you're getting out there and enjoying human company! I think the worst thing to do would be to sit around on one's own.

dbears - I originally would've liked 08/08/08 - it'll be handy to remember!

EDIT: Forgot to say, thank you for the welcome backs luv.gif

Don't worry - I think many of us here are pretty obsessive at times!

The process will become a lot easier once we start to receive our NoA2s and can fix more secure wedding dates, I hope!

I kind of wish my belongings were already with Alex...it'd be frustrating at times, but at least I wouldn't be worrying about having to sell/ship everything I own.

Good luck to you and your fiancé good.gif

Good morning everyone!

Cecile - I'm glad you like your dress! It was a good idea to go away and think upon it before returning and making a list of alterations - the initial disappointment must've been huge, but as you say it's your dress and it's still a great deal cheaper than it would be in the shops.

I'm not having a photographer for my wedding - the ceremony itself isn't important, and it's really just a means to an end. Perhaps if we were having an expensive or fancy do we'd have one as then we'd want a reminder of how fantastic everything looked, but as it is I don't see a need for one. I've never looked back on photographs from other parties or birthdays or special occasions and don't miss having them.

Having a wedding in a botanic garden sounds wonderful!

I don't think we'll have a theme as such - unless you can call it a 'casual' theme! biggrin.gif If we have flowers I'd like blue/purple flowers, though, and I was thinking that my little sis (who is an 'honorary' bridesmaid as it's a fun excuse for a 10 year old to go dress shopping) could wear a blue dress (she has strawberry blonde hair and big blue eyes).

It's snowing here! Just returned from a friend's house - walking in high heels and in the cold, brr!

Alex is worried and it's really frustrating not being able to be there for him. He has a lump on his leg - had an ultrasound Tuesday but they couldn't tell him anything, and now he has to go back for a second scan and consultation.

Welcome, CourtAndGrey. I agree with Cecile - the idea of a long weekend, especially spent amongst the rivers and mountains of Washington, sounds delightful!

dbears - I'm by no means the first person to think of a BBQ garden wedding and I certainly won't be the last - but I am glad I managed to inspire you! biggrin.gif Of course, I'm banking on Alex's dad still being willing to operate the BBQ...his marinated meats really are the best.

greeneyedgirlfl - thank you for your well wishes. heart.gif

Last day of work this week! I'm probably going to end up lazing around the house for most of my long weekend. whistling.gif Still, it'll be broken up by a trip to London and I'll expect I'll be doing quite a bit of cleaning as always.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
That's my dilemma - if I get a traditional white dress I'm going to look very overdressed for a garden wedding!

Also - 'fancy dress' is another phrase I'll have to get used to - in British English fancy dress = costumes, i.e. for Hallowe'en or a themed birthday party. So when Alex sent me an e-mail the other day telling me how much he is looking forward to taking me out to dinner at a restaurant in fancy dress I was imagining us sitting down at the table dressed up as pirates or maids or something similar laughing.gif

So, I'm curious, guys - how did you all meet? I've heard a couple of stories from people but if the question has been asked before it was too long ago for my poor brain to remember!

Hmm... how did we meet... well, we were both members on an online community and I've seen her posting in the forums a few times but we never really talked.. When she started showing up in the chatroom of this community, for some reason we always missed each other (well, guess the reason was exactly 12 hours time difference lol) but after a while we came in contact with each other and it clicked right away between us. After a while we talked more and more, mostly in private chat sessions and eventuelly we began to feel the love between each other. There was one problem tho, she was still in a relationship but, as she told me back then (and as it really showed more and more to me), it wasn't a relationship in which she wanted to be. The guy was really not for her but she was scared to break up because of how he might react.. in the end she did break up tho and then we basically decided we should meet each other and so we did last september.. the rest followed really quick as it all felt so good between us biggrin.gif

Oh my, that's crazy...that's pretty much mine and Alex's story, word for word. Ours took a lot longer to progress, though. We started to chat privately in early 2004. We didn't even realise we each had a little bit of a crush on each other for another two years. In the meantime, I left a guy with whom I had no prospects (it was never a relationship that was going to go anywhere, but my problem was that instead of being scared of the guy's reaction I was comfortable and friends with the guy and it took a while for me to haul my ### and move on with my life) and we finally met in July 2006 and have been together since. smile.gif

Yeah, I don't think I'll be rushing to send Packet 3 back, although I won't delay it too long, either, as I'd prefer to begin arranging the wedding after I have the visa in hand and I'd like to give people a few months' notice.

I think the actual visa is good for something like 6 months after they issue it so there's no real reason to delay the packet 3 and the interview.

Indeed; my only problem is it'll just be very tempting to get on the next available flight and charge all expenses to my poor credit card! headbonk.gif

E - I'm so glad it was something minor! Now you can get it back and hopefully you'll get your NOA2 really fast afterwards! good.gif

How's everyone else this morning? I've been really, really impatient the yesterday and today. I just feel on pins and needles like I need to be DOING something, but I don't know what. dry.gif I hate that feeling...hopefully I'll feel better today. I'm getting a new phone, so hopefully I'll get distracted by technology for a few hours. smile.gif

I'm growing nervous myself! I realised I haven't read up much on the next stages. I haven't even worked out how to tell when our package has reached NVC. wacko.gif

I was going to call in at the doctor's and ask about vaccinations today but they closed at lunchtime. D'oh.
