Cant' wait to see someone from this thread gets an approval so at least we know things are moving. LoL
The agony if waiting...

That's what I keep checking for! Looking at CSC it's likely that we should see at least one approval by the end of the month.

I booked tickets to England for next month! So it'd be great if I received my green card before then, would save me having to carry around the NOA1. And Alex is coming too! It'll be the first time we've ever travelled together, and only the second time in my life I've flown with someone else (I've done so many solo flights).

Finished biometrics today at the Santa Ana, CA USCIS. I arrived at around 8:00AM, and there was already a pretty decent line ahead of me, but was able to finish the process and leave at 8:50AM (approx.). The biometrics took only 10 minutes, it was the line that took a while.

Tip: Definitely helps to moisturize your hands with lotion the night before or the morning of to make the fingerprint part of the biometrics process easier.

I tried that! Sigh. Two problems I have are a) a lot of deep ridges running vertically down my fingertips, and b) the skin on my middle fingers is so smooth they don't leave a very good impression, ever!

Still, the moisturizing helped to make everything a little better overall. :)

I just got my bio letter scheduled for 6/28; I plan to go there walk-in on 6/16. Is it ok, right?

It's certainly worth a try!

Had my appointment today. I don't understand why they schedule 20-30 people at once! I filled out my form as soon as possible and was first in line, thank goodness!

...then I held everyone else up, because my fingers REALLY don't like the scanners! I think the guy had to scan each finger 2-3 times, and I saw that both ring fingers just failed to take. I really hope I don't have a second appointment (I did for AOS!).

I could have mailed mine in April but I had a death in the family and a lot of stuff went down so I finally mailed mine off the other day.
Better late than never! lol My green card expires July 7th so I'm not super late.

Good luck to everyone waiting :)

I'm sorry to hear that :(

And no - you're definitely not super-late. Several of us here have filed far later!

Yes, that is the standard NOA1, same wording on all of them. You can ignore the part about the evidence if you already sent everything in. :)

I wouldn't worry yet!

You mailed on a Saturday, so this is only the fourth working day since then.

As long as you filed it on the deadline, you'll be fine :)

I procrastinated for the longest time, too. Alex kept hounding me, and I finally filed... it's hard when you're busy!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionMay 2011 Filers

receipt date of NOA1 5/5
got in the mail today 5/11

I am so blase` about this compared to the adjustment of status and K-1 stuff. Both those situations we were waiting to receive something to get life going. Since we are already busy with life this is just essentially a rubber stamp on it.

with that said... godspeed VSC

Same here.

Actually, I was hoping there might be a delay or problem of some kind so I could avoid going back to the UK in August! It's my brother's wedding and my parents are threatening excommunication if I don't go, but even the cheapest flights are $1700+ and after filing this the balance in my bank account is... $40. I REALLY don't want to have to put anything on any credit cards - we've only just managed to start to make headway into Alex's debt. If I could claim immigration problems... that'd be a valid excuse that was entirely not my fault.

Clauski - the money came out of my bank account on 05/06, 3 days after I sent the package.

Well, I guess its time to start getting busy. Im gonna have to read up on this stuff since i have out of the loop for the last two years enjoying LIFE!!!:D

Tell me about it! Well, enjoying and also getting stressed out by. I finished an essay for school at 5 am this morning, and two hours later was leaving for work...

Good luck putting your package together! I found this the easiest part of the whole visa process so far. :)

That was I thought, Alex & Rachel. Wow, looks like Cali Center works way faster than the VT one. So, it only took 6 days for you to receive the NOA1. But for another May filer (CA) it only took 3 (!!!) days. That what made me get confused . There is no way, the USCIS did it for such an extremely short period . Let's say, it took 1 day for a package to be delivered, 1 day for USCIS to look at it, and the last 3rd day for the NOA to be sent to the filer.
I may be wrong.. I wish all immigration services worked that fast :-D

Looking at a few of the other threads, it does indeed appear that CSC simply is that fast! There's only one day between one December filer's mailing date and the date on their NOA1.

AOS was also fairly swift through CSC. Sorry for all of you filing at VSC!

It's the date on the NOA1 received. The NOA1 is the letter that states they have received your application, have extended your greencard for another year, and in which they tell you they will send your biometrics appointment information soon.

So I posted my package on 05/03, received the letter 05/09, and the date on the letter was 05/06. I live in California so evidently the letter didn't take very long to reach me! :)

Also, welcome clauski :)

Sounds like you have a great collection of evidence there! I had hardly anything by comparison - thankfully we moved recently, or else I wouldn't have even had a lease with my name on it. You're brave to send in so many photos!

Going a little crazy over the thought that not only has it been over two years since I have moved here, but we're already nearly halfway through the year.

It's been fourteen months since I last visited the UK.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionMay 2011 Filers
My check was cashed 05/06/2011 (they waste no time there!) and I received a letter today notifying me that my status has been extended for a year and that my biometrics appointment date will be sent soon. :)

Hey May filers,

Quick question; did you guys two-hole punch your documents at the top of the pages and use ACCO fasteners to hole the papers?

Thanks

No... I stapled.

I put the whole package together rather hurriedly. I remember for the K1 I took my time and spent aaages putting it all together, following the instructions and recommendations here on this site to the t. Last week my main concern was just to get the package out. I realised after the fact that I'd forgotten to sign an additional page and I'd also left questions blank rather than state 'N/A' or 'None'. Still, I don't mind if I do get a RFE - as long as I'm not here illegally it doesn't really matter!

I'm not too concerned, either, although we don't have that much. Fortunately I have access to our HR files at work and could easily copy all of our insurance info, and Alex had recently added me to our renters' insurance.

If we hadn't moved in January, we wouldn't have a lease or a mortgage or anything that proved we live together! (We were casually renting previously off a family friend, and we'd never bothered to officially add me to the lease... in retrospect a silly move on our part).

Actually, our lease has five names on - I'm lucky enough to be living with a whole group of guys, not just my husband. That's expensive city living for you - we can only afford a room!

Anyone else surprised on how quickly two years has come around? It seems like only yesterday I was here gathering information on the beginning stages.

Or has it passed really slowly for people?

Sent it off today. :) I did not include any affidavits, either. I had:

- Photocopy of greencard/passport
- Renters' lease with both our names on
- Copies of tax returns & corresponding bank statements for past two years
- 5 copies of bank statements for joint account over a two year period
- Copy of renters' insurance with both our names on
- Photocopies of my dental/vision/health insurance cards and forms

Guess it's time for me to join this group, our window opened on April 15th, but money is tight. Planning on filing on May 16th, paperwork is all ready to go.

I hear you! My window opened back in February, but I had taxes to pay, car insurance... and a pipe burst in our bathroom last week, and now we have to buy our roommate (who fixed it, and whose phone was in his pocket at the time) a new phone... phew! It all adds up!

Aaaah - I just went and re-read the government page to answer RichelMichael's question and I saw that you're supposed to sign and date any extra pages you attach to the form. I added a page with previous addresses on. D'oh! Oh well, it's filed, now, so I'll just see if I get a RFE.

Hello,

I'm filing this month too!

I meant to file back in February, as my two year anniversary is in 18 days, eep! But I kept being so busy, and then I was concerned about money... I have the support all ready, just need to fill in the form. Will do so tonight. :)

It all sounds like a nightmare! I'm impressed that you managed to keep cool - I get nervous when asked questions no matter how innocent I know I am.

Good luck to Jeraly for next month, too.

It seems to me that they've tightened security recently...when I travelled in 2006 it was a breeze; I was still let through easily last year but the number of questions and checks seem to have doubled, and I was really lucky to be the only person in the queue who wasn't held up or interrogated in any way.

My gym is nowhere near my work or house, which makes it worse. I used to be a member of a Holmes Place gym in Holloway that I had to go by on the bus home from work. It was about three bus stops before my normal one, so walking home was also a cinch. However, when I look back at how much I paid... How in the world did I ever, EVER think it was normal to pay 49 quid a month for a freakin' gym membership? It's not like I was paying for flunkies to mop my sweaty brow as I trudged away on the elliptical glider, or that they provided cashmere towels, or there was some nice lady in the loo waiting to wipe my behind with silk loo roll.

I am much happier with $10 a month at Planet Fitness!

I pay £47 a month. crying.gif But I like the gym and it's close to work. I figure it's better paying for a gym membership at a gym I'll actually go to, rather than paying a lot less for one I don't.

Ouchies - I think I kinda did the same though it was for longer than 10 days... I started early and now I am scared to try on my wedding dress!!!

sad.gif After I moved here I gained so much weight (partly from the HFCS in everything I think) that I could no longer fit into my wedding dress. I had to go out and buy a new one. I'm hoping I can lose enough weight to fit back into it for my daughter's wedding. (It's not a wedding dress wedding dress. So you can all stop thinking I'm a little touched in the head now.) laughing.gif

That's the best kind of wedding dress - one that's multi-functional!

What did people submit with their Subject Access form to prove that they lived at that address?

I want to send off my Subject Access form in the next few months, but I have no official documents that give my address. I don't drive, so I have no driving licence. I don't have a medical card with my current address as I'd have to change doctors as I'm now out of their catchment area - and since I actually like my doctor and the surgery is very close to my work I'm reluctant to tell them I've moved. All my banking is done online and I have no recent official written communication from my bank.

I've sent off for a provisional driving licence and I've also paid for my bank to send me a statement in the post; should either of these two things be okay?

It's the same every Christmas, too, no matter how hard you try to avoid it!

Supposedly you can still help your muscles when you're at a desk by lifting your feet off the ground, or pulling in your stomach - little exercises like that.

My middle's definitely a bit squidgy - I was doing pretty well with running regularly over the summer and eating porridge and eggs before setting off for work, but with the advent of cold, dark winter I started taking cereal bars to work so I could stay in bed longer and didn't go to the gym because I wanted to get back to a lovely, warm house.

Ah, the gym...

I suspended my membership for Dec/Jan as it didn't seem worth paying so much when I'd be away for four weeks. That totally excuses me from exercising until next month, right?

I walk a mile (partly uphill) to work and back, but it's not enough.

Who else is online whilst at work? I love my job but sometimes it's almost TOO quiet!

United KingdomWhat was the transition like?
QUOTE (Krikit @ Jan 28 2009, 04:56 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I don't know how you possibly found a duvet here in the US, Rachel. They don't have them here.

Maybe San Jose is a freak city. biggrin.gif

As for tea, my kettle here is actually far more advanced than my kettle in the UK was! I have a utilitea kettle from adagio.com; it has different temperature settings for both black and green teas. I've even given up tea-bags and have switched to loose tea.

United KingdomWhat was the transition like?
I'm experiencing first-hand the problem with US employment laws after Alex was laid off earlier this month with only five days' notice and a severance that didn't even cover the rest of the month's pay. It's a little scary! We are so fortunate that his parents live nearby and are being very supportive. I couldn't have asked for better in-laws.

Fortunately I managed to find a duvet my first day here in BB&B. The local IKEA also has a huge selection. I was quite surprised, if there's anywhere you don't really need a duvet it's in California (such beautiful weather we've had!). It was the first thing I wanted to buy - I get so cold at night and Alex only had a couple of old blankets.

I've actually found the transition easier than I expected, though granted I've only been here a couple of months. I rarely get commented on my accent, but then nearly everyone I have met or socialise with is either an immigrant themselves or has travelled extensively in Europe. It's actually crazy how few people I have met have actually lived all of their lives in the US.

There is a British food store here that carries the few items I can't find in the regular supermarkets. However, I've been pleasantly surprised by how much is actually available in the regular supermarkets and you also find other things in unexpected places - for example, Costplus carries quite a few McVities biscuits.
