K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2011 Filers!!!
Hello, January filers! Cheer up!

I know it's a loooooong boring wait. And my university is closed down due to the flu epidemia, so all I have left is the gym, a couple of kids to teach once in a while and my textbook of Spanish... But I'm really trying to enjoy myself and I've been listening to a song, which really helps to stay in a good mood.

Check it out and SMILE :) Jason Mraz - Life is wonderful

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2011 Filers!!!

*sigh* I hope you hear from them soon. We are crossing the 30 day mark on the 18th, so I'm thinking to wait 30+ days too before sending an email. Probably on Monday next week. It's simply...irritating

Thanks. Still no reply, but there is still hope.
If not, i'm going to keep writing to them and make my fiance write to them also until they do something :bonk: Russians never give up

Here's the finalized version of the kitties with celtic hearts.
Speaking of celtic designs, my engagement ring is basically this ring, except it has the heart in the middle taken out and the two sides of the knotwork brought together in the middle. Then, they filled in the center area and put a stone setting there.

i love both the kitties and the ring

So, the last part of my surprise..is a video. I have been working on taking a English song that she loves and creating a video with our pictures during our time together. I plan on posting it later today so she has the weekend to enjoy it. Here it is for those that would like to see it. http://www.youtube.c...h?v=jTad5a_qI28

Just think guys...last Valentines we will be away from our future spouse!!!! Posted ImagePosted Image

great video! i'm sure she'll like it!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2011 Filers!!!

I received an answer within 24 hours of mailing that gave me my NOA1 date, and explained that they had sent notification to the IT department to make the case available online. Within another 24 hours, my case status was available.

Hope this helps some others waiting on case status!

Thanks a lot! :) I should try that, just need to find VSC e-mail.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2011 Filers!!!

Hi ONA! You think they'll process us sooner? What's with the 'blue slip' and the 'special attention' thing in the rejection letter sent to us?
Nice to know it's not just us who experienced that.. It was rather frustrating because we prepared it for WEEKS! We checked everything, except that we did not check on the site before sending it.. Who who would have thought right? :bonk:

I would be really glad if they do pay some 'special attention' to us, but as a person who was born and raised in Russia, i'm not used to believe such promises. my fiance hopes it's true though :D

and it sounds exactly like us! we started looking at all the information in august, then prepared everything, it took us so long and... BAM! the fee is wrong :( o well, at least it's cheaper  try always look on the bright side :) i wish they had taken that extra money, but we didn't lose a whole month though.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2011 Filers!!!

LOL!!! Not sure how I'll handle Houston after Canada. I know I'll love winter but am not so sure about the heat and humidity/rain in the summer. :o

I'm moving to Maryland and i was worried about more humid and hot summers too, but actually last summer was a lot hotter in Russia... And the winters seem to become colder there, so now i think that it's not going to be a big change.

Hello everyone =)
We just joined VJ, and we are January petitioners as well.. Sent Jan 12, NOA1 Jan 13. =)
We originally sent in Nov 25, but it was sent back because of incorrect fee (*sigh*, we lost more than a month because of that)..
Anyway, I wish everyone luck, especially VSC and CSC luck too, in processing our petitions =)

Hello!
The same story with the wrong fee happened to us!...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2011 Filers!!!

And, TwoCats, I still can't see our case status online either  Like you, we'll be waiting 30 days until Feb. 18 and then call VSC! I just hope it'll magically work until then but I must say I doubt it. *sigh*

I'm with you, guys :( I keep checking it every day, but nothing changes...

I'm so glad for those, who're going to see their fiance(e)s some time soon! Hope you all have a great time together! :)

As for Valentine's we've spent it together only one time - it was two years ago. It was in Moscow, we had dinner in a restaurant right next to the Red Square and he got for me lots and lots of tulips... ahhh.... it was so long ago...
this year since i can't cook dinner for him, i'm going to get something from an online Russian food store... maybe some caviar (i know a lot of American people, who can't imagine how it's possible to eat 'fish eggs', but my hubby-to be loves it) :) and i was thinking about making a video also, but i'm not sure.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2011 Filers!!!

That is cool. Interestingly enough, she has many different names. For the paperwork process while we listed all of them as alternate names, since her passport had Oxana on it, that is what is listed as her primary name. After the third day together I no longer called her Oksana, as there is a name with special meaning to her that I call her by. Did not realize this until a couple weeks ago how much meaning this name conveyed to her. I am special, as she considers anyone else calling her by this insulting!!! I am the only one allowed...yeaaa!

My passport says Oxana also, but it can be spelled Oksana as well, it's all the same - at least it doesn't affect the spelling in Russian :)

  The wait is a bit easier now knowing VSC is at least doing something and approving I-129Fs again! I keep looking at Igor's list and so happy every time someone is approved! The more people they approve every day, the sooner they get to January :P

I keep checking the list also :)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures2-year requirement from J1: Interview date problem?
I think that the best thing in that case is to write an email/call the embassy and ask them. They know the answer to this question better, than anybody else.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresTracking Status on USCIS Website
We're having the same problem, my fiance got NOA-1 in the mail almost a week ago, but we still can't see it online :( I keep checking it like a million times a day though... for some reason :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWant to start K1, questions about J1
What program did she participate in? If it was Summer Work & Travel she is fine. Mostly 2-year rule applies to those, who participates in government-funded exchange programs or people who pursued graduate-level education or training etc.
And gandacel is right - it says on the visa if the 2-year rule applies.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow long
We've known each other for about 2.5 years before filing. We met in July 2008 in the USA (actually met on July, 3rd, but decided to make July, 4th our anniversary date  ). Filed for K-1 in January, 2011.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresYikes.... I have been flagged at the border!
I would like to clarify. I was never denied entry. They just got my fingerprints and had a picture taken at POE for some reason. And this only happened one time. I know they did the same thing to other people and they weren't denied entry either.
I had to get visa every time though, so basically if they didn't want to let me into the country, they would've just denied my visa. But since I also don't have any criminal records as well and never broke any rules, they didn't have a reason.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresYikes.... I have been flagged at the border!
In 2009 I was fingerprinted and photographed. In 2010 I had no problem at the POE. I didn't even think there might have been some problems :) No extra questions from the POE guard either.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAfter NOA2

Thank you so much for that info.. Very useful. I think im ok with the flow of everything... Once she gets her interview date, i want her to call and see if they can move up the interview date.... i have a huge project that i am going to be working on in september and october and i would love for her to come by late august.... may be she can tell them that i already planned the wedding or something =))

Living in LA, i usually love summers but I can't wait until this summer is over =)))

If you want to move a date, I think it's better if you talk to the embassy  They seem to like the US citizens more and if you e-mail them, you are likely to have a quicker reply.
ONAFemaleRussia2011-06-16 03:24:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAfter NOA2

so if there is no packet 3, how does she (or i) find the date of the interview???

she said she knows whats up based on her russian forums but i want to be in the loop as well... not a control freak but i really like to be in the know =)

To find out the interview date you (or her) should just contact the embassy: http://moscow.usemba...ov/concont.html
Don't worry, we'll take good care of her on those Russian forums

Yea, our case left the NVC on May, 25 - so the NVC stage took us about a week, which is pretty quick.

We couldn't check our case status until the day it actually was approved. Calling USCIS before that and asking to fix that didn't help either :bonk:

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedurestrying to get K1 but have a j1 :(

I am in shock because I did not know this was an issue. My fiance and I filed our I129F on March 2nd and we have been expecting our NOA2 any day now. He had a J1 visa last summer. What are you going to do? File for an exception? This is such terrible news.

Not all J-1 visas fall under 2-year home residence rule.
Ask your fiance to check his visa - if it says on it "TWO YEAR RULE DOES NOT APPLY" he's good to go :)
ONAFemaleRussia2011-07-09 04:00:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresOnline Case Status
Well... you can call...
We had the same problem and my fiance called and e-mailed them a couple of times, but all they said was that yes, they had our case and no, they couldn't fix the problem.
I kept checking though  And our case appeared online after we got approved.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresProof of having met

ALSO, I was in the U.S. on a student visa. Would it help if I sent my I-20 or the certificate of attendance from the school?

It might help. Also, include a copy of your visa and the passport stamps.
We didn't send a lot of evidence: we had copies of our visas and passport stamps (he's been to Russia 3 times and I've been to the USA 3 times prior filing the petition), my last boarding passes and 8 pictures, in some of the pictures we were with our friends and families. I think that's it.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSS Number for Marriage License?

I never mention this, but it's true: never marry in Maryland.
They are indeed the exception to the rule. Thinking about it, is there any reason to ever do anything in Maryland? Do they even have beaches there?

It's the awesomest state with plenty of beaches, mountains and it's right next to the US Capital. It's all off top though.
But if we go back to topic, there always might be other exceptions.
ONAFemaleRussia2011-10-31 19:11:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSS Number for Marriage License?

Any idea how a tourist couple that flies in from Rome or Paris or Madrid and wants to get married in Las Vegas or Maui or Miami or New York would get SSNs?
Me neither.
So does that mean that the tens of thousands of tourists who get married every year in the United States get married without having a SSN?

Does that answer your question?

It depends on the state and/or on the county you're going to get married in. Seriously.
When we went to get our marriage license, I forgot my SS card at home and I didn't remember my SSN. The clerk at the court house said that she couldn't do anything without both of our SS numbers. My husband asked: "Does it matter that she isn't a citizen?" It didn't mean anything, we still had to go back and get my SSN (we're in Maryland).
The best advice so far was to check your county requirements.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMoscow Consular VISA filing fee

Tricky. So pay in $$$ Can you? We did in Kiev.

Our son's girfriend just paid for a visitor visa in Yekaterinakurg and it was exactly the exchange for $140 USD ???

I paid in dollars for that very reason - it was cheaper. BUT you can't do it anymore with the new system.
When I was paying $140 for each of my parents' visas it was more than the official exchange rate in Russian banks, but I had to pay in rubles, cause they didn't accept $$$.
ONAFemaleRussia2011-11-03 17:12:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMoscow Consular VISA filing fee
The embassy has it's own exchange rate, which is usually higher than the regular rate.
ONAFemaleRussia2011-11-02 17:54:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresformat of translated documents

You do NOT need her birth certificate for the petition (I-129f) and it does not provide any benefit to include it. Keep it for the consulate interview where a translation will not be needed (both Moscow and Kiev did away with that requirement)

While the translation is not needed in Kiev (if the document is in Ukrainian or Russian), it IS needed in Moscow.

Alla does translations from Russian and has done many for the Moscow and Kiev consulates and USCIS. She sets up a fairly representative "format" that more or less copies the layout of the original document. She uses various symbols to replicate stamps and such and prints inside this symbol what it represents "Seal of the Village Soviet, Village of Yakutsk" or whatever.

I did not try to replicate the stamp, I wrote exactly what the stamp said, something like: "/STAMP/ Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation".
ONAFemaleRussia2011-11-14 20:47:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresformat of translated documents
I translated my Birth Certificate and my Police Certificate myself (for the interview).
I DID NOT translate the evidence of relationship and meeting in person - some of it was in Russian. The only thing they looked were the pictures, but I never heard of the Embassy having problems with vouchers in Russian or train tickets in Russian or something.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 Medical Interview and AOS

It is the form she needs which is FREE. If she does not get this form she will need to have an I-693 filled out for by a Civil Surgeon and signed off on and many charge more than $250.

Correction: in Moscow they charge $20 for DS-3025 (still better than $250), so, OP, if she does her medical at IOM, make sure she has $160 to pay for the medical + $20 to pay for the form.
