Shan: What happened to the Vikings? That was a nice throw from Favre to Harvin at the end of the game.

Aubrey: Are you a Texan yet?

I haven't gotten a call back yet. It's worrisome, but not hopeless. They have been amazingly slow this entire time, so there's no telling what the delay is about this time. Hopefully there will still be good news to come. Only time will tell.

BTW congrats for new pregnancy Shannon & Nick

Congrats! I'm sure it's a great relief to you and your husband. I know we will be relieved when we reach that stage, but our interview isn't for another week + 1/2.

For updates... My phone interview was delayed till today (apparently El Paso was snowed in Tuesday), and I think it went very well. Turns out there are currently 8 of us applicants left out of over 100 that applied, and it has to be narrowed to 3 for in-person interviews, which I'll hear back on either Friday or Monday. The interviewer (who would be my boss if I get the job) seemed to be implying I'd make it to the next phase, so I hope it's true. We really need this job!

Andy is still having no luck finding a job, and I'm not getting any other calls either. I left my temp job early yesterday since they ran out of stuff for me until more could be entered, so it's any day now unless the manager buys the company sooner than later. He wants to keep me on permanently, but until he buys the company from the two brothers (who do almost nothing but take home big pay, taking the company into the red) they can't afford to. It's a so-so job, as it's well below my qualifications and has 0 benefits, but better than no job at all.

Anyways, i'll keep you all updated when I hear something!

Congrats on the social security numbers and the card productions. As well as the little one on the way, Shannon and Nick!

We had our US reception this weekend and it went off without a hitch. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Was it as much a cultural experience for your husbands/wives as it was for us? I swear, Sebastian could not eat enough stuffing!

I hope you enjoyed your reception!

Thanksgiving was definitely nice. A couple from VJ had us over (another US-German couple) and Andy definitely enjoyed eating lots and lots of turkey. I had lots of pie, and I know he enjoyed being around new friends and their kids. It was nice not to be alone for once in a long while, for me. I hope everyone else enjoyed their new Thanksgiving experiences, too!

They told him they still needed to talk to applicants and would call back next week. Another company called him today, but it turned out not to be quite what he expected (an on-call-only position which is problematic since it's not nearby).

Thanks for the well-wishes. I'm sure to keep you guys updated if he gets a job! We keep hoping for it every day. I have less than a month left at my temp job, and am still applying. I've had one call from UT El Paso that I'm among a "handful" of candidates they've narrowed it down to, but that was two weeks ago now and I have not hear back since. I know universities move slow, so maybe there's still hope. For those of you on Facebook, I'm trying to keep it on the down low there so as not to alert my temp job that I'm looking to "abandon ship."

CDNEH: Awesome. These things take far too long! I wish our case had been transferred, even with the delay -- NOT looking forward to our scheduled interview next month.

Good luck with everything. You thinking more school in El Paso?

Thanks! And oh goodness, definitely not. They called again today, and I have a phone interview next week for a graphic design position there. It's not exactly our chosen living place (desert, ugly, poor, Texas... blah blah blah), but working for a university would be a great great wonderful thing. If I decide to get a master's, it will only be to qualify myself to teach at the college/university level (MFA is the highest degree in a creative field, thus qualifying for that level of teaching position). And in order to do that, it would matter a great deal where I got the MFA from (you work below where you got a degree), so El Paso would just be... funny. However, Andy might be able to get a master's there in computer science, since staff get a family discount on course fees...

I told him to learn while he was in Haiti cuz it wouldnt happen easily here but did it? nope...grrr. A happy marriage again would be great too...marriage is tough.Hope everyone else is doing well, I will catch back up soon.

We all go through ups and downs and differences can be frustrating. Just remember that you gain strength from being with each other. Try not to undermine that with negativity in your marriage. Not trying to be preachy -- just reminding you that things that seem easy and logical to do aren't as easy for some when they're alone and missing loved ones or going through big transitions. You can use that strength together to get some amazing things done now.

I have to remind myself all of the time that my husband has gone through so much to be here and that it will take time for him to get up to speed with life in the U.S. He too didn't get some things done prior to his move, but I know that he was holding on by a thread some days with being apart and keeping it all to himself most of the time to be strong for me. I don't know your particulars, but I hope you'll try to work it out.

Best wishes.

Andy's biometrics went fine (though he waited 2 hours even though he got there at 8:30 with a 9am appointment), and we got home and his EAD card production was ordered. AOS case was touched (I'm sure just updating that he did his biom.). Finally he can start applying for work. FINALLY. I am crossing my fingers he can get an entry level IT tech position, but we're both willing to settle for SOMETHING to start with. Hoping my temp job lasts at least until he's employed... it's starting to slow down a little, but they haven't run out of pimple faces for me to retouch just yet.

K-3 is a VISA (e.g. it would be the permission for your husband to enter the country legally). You already filed and used the K-1 VISA for your hubby to enter legally as a fiance. Now after marriage, he must adjust status to become a permanent resident (and get a "green card"). That is the "AOS" we're talking about here. Yes, it's $1010 filing fee, I'm afraid. And I wouldn't bother trying for a fee waiver... Been there, tried that. Do a cash advance on your credit card if you have to; at least you finally found a joint sponsor.

From what I recall, I think only 1 year of tax returns is required, the employment letter (stating income, hiring date, and continued employment), and the affidavit I-864 (each of these for both you and your sponsor). I would add additional tax returns if there's some inconsistencies (dips) in income and your prior returns can show more.

Good luck, Meri.

I think I might change that, because I really don't know what the heck is going on. We were transferred July 17th to CSC, and the last touch was July 30th, the day after the biometrics. There has been nada since.

Now on the 16th October I get this notice, and so did quite a few others of us in a similar situation ..and we are not sure if they have transferred it back again, or if it is still there and finally someone is blowing the dust off the stack. I love these late Friday night emails that leave you wondering ..wth...pending. Good grief, after three months it makes the wording on the transfer sound a bit daft..."We have transferred this case in order to speed up processing..."

Application Type: I485 , APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

Current Status: This case is now pending at the office to which it was transferred.

The I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS was transferred and is now being processed at a USCIS office. You will be notified by mail when a decision is made, or if the office needs something from you. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

Really sorry about the medical. That sucks. They really need to change how those are handled at POE!

Andy tried to do a walk-in biometrics today. They let him in the door, but wouldn't give him a number and told him to wait until there were no people with appointments. An hour later, there were more people going in than coming out, and he gave up (with my blessing). Given that parking is $6 a pop and it's clear on the other side of town from where I'm working (and we have just the one vehicle), it's too costly to experiment with going back in hopes that it speeds up his EAD. Really disappointing day, and now we wait around another 2 weeks till his actual appointment date. I still can't stop being angry at the month delay from the last appointment letter never getting printed by them.

Well, the new biometrics appointment letter finally arrived... it's set for 10/28. Thanks to their screw-up (e.g., not printing the last appointment letter and mailing it to us), they make us wait another month. It's so ridiculous and unfair.

We're going to attempt to walk-in and get it done sooner since it's delaying Andy's EAD. As you might imagine, we pretty badly need him to have work auth by now. I can't seem to find the building hours online anywhere, so I guess we have to drive by to find out. To say that I'm frustrated or irritated by this delay really understates what I feel. Yuck.

In other news... Obama = Nobel Peace prize winner? I like Obama, but I'm really not thinking this was the best choice... I think that bringing hope isn't enough for such a prestigious award. What do you all think?

Received AP docs in the mail today. Andy went to INFOPass and they made a call about the biometrics appointment. Apparently they HAD scheduled him a new one for 9/30, but a "system glitch" caused it not to be PRINTED! So they are supposed to reschedule it AGAIN. I guess we're looking at another 2-3 week wait. It's so unfair.

Still nothing here. unsure.gif It's unnerving to say the least. Thursday is 3 weeks since the INFOPass appointment when we requested an new biometrics appointment for Andy. The lady at the appt said that it would take 2-3 weeks to get a new appointment letter, but we haven't seen a touch on the cases since we called USCIS last. So, wondering if they even sent the letter off like they said they would. We don't even HAVE a letter anymore to try a walk-in with, and so we're both very concerned. @TeeKol: You're definitely not invisible. Sorry if I missed responding at some point, I was pretty busy for a couple weeks and without internet.

@Corinthians: Good to hear you're having some movement on the senator front. It's sad that it takes help to get things done properly. We still haven't gotten a new biometrics appointment for my husband, so our case is stalled. Not cool. You should switch banks if yours is truly that incompetent to allow your wife on. I'm with Wells Fargo and we had no trouble, and always had good service from them. In fact, the local banker the other day gave us a free box of checks just to be nice (they aren't included with our account).

As for the new city, it's about like I figured it'd be. I got a temporary position as a FT photo retoucher, and the commute is hideous. I'm going in early tomorrow to see if it helps with how long it takes to get there (sitting in bumper to bumper sucks), as it's taking 45-60 minutes to get there or back at peak hours. Andy started volunteering at the library answering computer questions and is settling in to making me lunch to take to work and cooking dinners. Just waiting on that elusive EAD...

On a somewhat random note... it looks like half or more of the people here have had to re-do medicals. How crazy is that?!

Well, they want the medical exam. We sent the vaccination supplement 'cause it has been less than one year...blah blah blah. So I guess we need to have another medical? Any comments?

Sounds like they may havve lost the medical stuff at POE. Bummer =( We added a note to our vacc supplement sheet that the rest of the medical stuff was taken at POE. Did you write any notes on yours?

No notes on the supplement. I read a thread where a person's Congressman was able to call the NBC and make them find the medical. It was in one of 2 files; the wrong one. Their processing was resumed in less than 1 week. Otherwise we need to find money for a new medical and that would suck or we could try to get it here from Brazil which could be alot of work too.

That'd be my course of action, but not without its legwork. The medical is going to cost your more stateside if you re-do it. The only other thing that crosses my mind is that they might not have known what the supplement was without a note attached. It sounds sad, but I repeatedly read that people get RFE's for stuff like birth certificates when they send in international birth certificates (which have multiple languages on them including English). And just sending a vacc. supplement is less common, so... just throwing that out there as a possibility.

Either way, I'm sorry you're having that bad luck. sad.gif We crossed our fingers when we submitted our stuff and attached sticky notes like mad in case of a dumb case worker. Hope we don't end up also in the re-do the medical boat! Wasn't it Kiristen/Jeremy that had to redo their medical in our thread?

So you guys that got an RFE...did it look like this:

Current Status: REQUEST FOR INITIAL EVIDENCE SENT, CASE PLACED ON HOLD

On September 11, 2009, we mailed a notice requesting initial evidence in this case. Please follow the instructions on the notice to submit the evidence requested. Meanwhile, processing of this case is on hold until we either receive the evidence or the opportunity to submit it expires. Once you submit the evidence requested and a decision is made, you will be notified by mail. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your mailing address.

Initial Evidence sounded strange to me.

Sounds like a typical RFE to me.

We were lucky as we got a joint bank account with Bank of America when I was over here last June, even without an SSN just gave them my UK passport details and once I got my SSN they just updated the account. BUT it means we have joint account statements for 12 months + even tho some are in Shan's old name.

Hmmm. Maybe we should give that a try.

We were able to add Andy to my Wells Fargo bank account without him having a SSN, too. We updated the account when we had it.

Received Andy's biometrics appointment letter today... Sept 21, 9am in Spokane (notice date 9/1, didn't get NOA1s till 9/4 and did address change then). tongue.gif Figured that'd happen since we had to re-file so close to our move. So, set up an INFOPass appt for tomorrow (1:45pm) in Seattle to try to get it rescheduled here in Seattle. Spokane isn't in driving distance to us anymore.

Wish us luck; I don't trust USCIS enough to mail back the letter like the person on the phone line suggested.

Got NOA1s today (via mail forwarding). Submitted the change of address online. Still boxes everywhere and much to do.

@Shannon&Nick: So sorry to hear you have an RFE. I hope it's something minor you can handle promptly!

@Kiristen&Jeremy: Geez, what a crazy process this is. I'm glad it's over with for awhile for you two. Those questions are so probing; you'd think that the K-1 stuff would be sufficient.

HI all I am about at the end of my rope. We have no sponsor nada and finding extra work has come to a halt. I am so close to just saying stick it all and letting him go so he does not have to watch me struggle to keep him here

I make 7.61 an hour! how will THAT keep him here!!!???!! I cry all the time and I feel like a HUGE failure.

I dont know what I can do...

We have till oct then we will be over the thing and he will be in trouble.
HELP LORD HELP!

Maybe you could try infopass or the fee waiver. What is "over the thing"?

I think she's saying that she doesn't qualify for the affidavit of support and has no joint sponsor. I'm sorry, Meri. Is it possible for you to relocate elsewhere? The quad-cities area is kind of deadsville for jobs, I should know... Either way, I wish you all the best for both you and Kai.

@Kiristen: Oops, my bad. Apparently I can't read. I blame the self-deprivation. blush.gif whistling.gif Good luck tomorrow!

Is everyone hanging in there? Nick/Shannon have you received anything on your package yet? Alexandra received her GC today...I must say even including our RFE bump in the road, it was much quicker than the K1 part. To not worry with USCIS for awhile will be nice but I am sure the 21 months before removing conditions will fly by.

Congratulations on finishing with USCIS for a while!!

We got all 3 NOA 1's yesterday so fingers crossed for a speedy resolution, I never not worked for so long in my life!!!!
BUT on the plus side Ive got to spend 7 months at home with little Rybear so more than makes up for it !!

Congrats Shannon&Nick. I hope the rest of the process goes quickly!

@Corinthians: Just like with K1, sad that we wait and hope for them to cash our hard-earned checks, huh?

Our check was cashed yesterday, but we haven't gotten NOA1 yet. Figure it'll arrive on Monday, when our mail is starting to get forwarded to our new address in the Seattle area. -.- I hope that it doesn't get "lost." We have been through enough junk already!

The apartment is 99% packed and I'm posting from the notebook at the laundromat (just to borrow their wi-fi, haha). Tomorrow we load up the truck, and drive out to the new digs on Monday. See you guys next week, and best wishes to all of you waiting on receiving your greencards in the mail.

How did Jeremy's AOS interview go, btw?

We got Johny's EAD today and the AP last week...now just waiting for GC approval...Im just so thankful that hopefully he can start working soon. Its funny the day he got the EAD he was also called by a job he applied for and they told him the manager should be calling him back soon...I hope so. We have been applying for jobs for him all week hopefully we will be hearing something soon...

Congratulations! They sure took their time on his EAD/AP, didn't they? I hope you have some luck soon with finding work. Keep us informed, we are rooting for you!

We haven't gotten NOA1 yet, but from looking at the timeline of the other VJ'r who applied for a fee waiver, it still might be okay. Hers took 13 days. USCIS wouldn't help us since it hasn't been 30 days yet (the unhelpful help line). It all makes both of us very nervous.

Otherwise, we are not long away from our move to Seattle and staying busy with stuff related to that.
