You guys make me feel like a wimp! I've seen Andy 4 months out of this year over 3 trips, and still the stress of the long distance has gotten to me. I get impatient with him, get babblely, and work up all sorts of crazy scenarios in my head about how things should go... tongue.gif It's so hard staying up late to talk, not seeing him every morning, and overall not feeling "normal" like other couples.

I just want our approval so I can at least begin to know when he might be with me again. At least with a date it'd give some relief from my constant worry. Right now I keep wondering if somehow he could get here in January before my semester starts and get married then, or else we have to wait until March. Thinking about another 3-4 months apart hurts.

I hope we all see approvals starting tomorrow. Best wishes to all of us, both who're still waiting and those working towards their interviews.

We moved up like 4 spots since yesterday! Not a huge amount, but I'll take it smile.gif.

That's cool; we're at 38 from 43 in the middle of the week.

I wonder if the online system is glitched or if the officer has to click a box to update you file status and maybe they just forget sometimes..

I keep reading posts of people getting NOA2 and nothing being updated there. It would be funny if one of the touches last week was my approval and I won't find out until the letter shows up.

Could be, but I'd bet it's still sitting on that person's desk while they took an extra day off or two. I'm sure you'll get your approval in the mail soon, either way. smile.gif

Has anyone purchased their wedding bands?

We have ours, we had a kind of unofficial ceremony with just us and the kids last time I was in Florida, Our eldest wrote something for us welcoming me to be part of their family, was fantastic.

The rings are Platinum and have each others names engraved on in Ancient kanji symbols. Inside we had inscribed NEMO NISI MORS which is Latin for nothing but death will part us.

Beautiful!

As for the wedding ring question, Sebastian got his when he was visiting the U.S. this summer. He wanted to wear some sort of engagement ring too (which I thought was really sweet!) so we bought his wedding ring and he's wearing it on his right hand. We'll switch it to the left on our wedding day.

I'm still in the process of trying to figure out what I want. Something with white gold and diamonds. The Christmas sales should help! We thought about having ours engraved too. I think this is South Carolina's motto or something, but Dum Spiro Spero means, "While I breathe, I hope" and we both think that really sums up a lot of our relationship.

And I absolutely love yours, Shannon and Nick!

Well, you might look at Amazon and Overstock today. Amazon's doing an extra 30% off 3,5, and 7 stone diamond rings among some other deals. Overstock's doing 10% all jewelry & free shipping, and I got an extra $5 off coupon. I shopped regular stores for rings for my first marriage, and now I feel like I was ripped off because it's so much cheaper online.

I totally splurged on the ring I wanted. innocent.gif I justified it to myself by the $35 discount from the sales and coupon (ok, it was $60 more than I wanted to spend still, but... I'm going to have my pink darn it! biggrin.gif ).

Thanks for all the well-wishes for Andy!

Lets hope the approvals start rolling in for all, especially for those that have sat in this July waiting room together for so long offering support & advise when needed! whistling.gif

Amen. That's as religious as I get.

I've refrained from my earlier high post count so not to be constantly on the complain train about the wait... because right now that's all I feel like doing after spending Thanksgiving alone and seeing people getting approved who filed weeks after me.

It's like I wrote before, many pages back... if you don't like it, you don't have to read it. But if you're going to be here, please try to be supportive of those who linger. It's not easy being in the waiting room. And we'll all do our best to help with questions that come up along the way.

I'm royally bummed about another topic atm. I stayed up late because Amazon.com made me believe they were taking an extra 50% off jewelry the way they listed it... but it's not so. I sure could've used those savings. :/ Oh well. I'll keep staring at that more expensive ring I shouldn't spend the money on. innocent.gif Back to square one!

Andy has another interview on the 9th - this time for an IT job (unlike the other crappy one). I have to keep crossing my fingers. The economy is just terrible, so the competition is rough. Wish him luck!

I read that uscis have thursday and friday off this week. Do most govt dept have two days off for thanksgiving over there? I've got my fingers and toes crossed that you guys will all get approved very very soon!!! star_smile.gif

It's a pretty standard practice in many businesses, including many government offices. As much as I dislike the wait, we don't get enough federal holidays in this country imo -- and everyone should get some time off. I think the trend to make people work on Thanksgiving and Christmas that's started in the last few years is just plain disgusting. We don't really *need* the grocery stores open those days, or Wal-mart, or 50% sales on Christmas afternoon.

Congrats on the approval, iahmjpinoy. Can't say I'm not jealous, though.

And on a new topic... has anyone looked into wedding rings? It's basically the only thing I can look at since everything's gone financially sour. I'm obsessed with finding a pink sapphire band for myself (pretty much already know Andy's getting a white gold milgrain band)... but it's all priced just a bit higher than I hoped. I found the jackpot at ~$125 one night, but they were out of stock (and now removed from their site sad.gif ) . I keep staring at these two bands, but hoping I can find something under $200 and in white gold:
Gorgeous! White gold pink sapphire & diamond band < the price = ouch
Rose Gold pink sapphire band < the rose gold = :/

Edit: I guess I should mention... I'm obsessed with the pink ring thing because of Andy. I was always an anti-pink gal, until he and I made a joke out of it in an online game we played (coloring each other's tanks pink in a war game). It ended up becoming our color (and I'm his pink sharky), so nothing would remind me more of him than a pink wedding band. biggrin.gif

Yeah, I have read the message about touches.

It's just like, what processing takes 2 days once you look at it. We have a clean app., no skeletons, etc. so what's up?

No idea what they have to do with these cases, the Q/A with the former adjucator doesn't really specify other than that they look over the documents you submitted. I'd imagine they have other things to check (such as in my case, Andy was present in the US when we filed, so I bet they have to check that he left).

Nothing here yet either, but I told myself from the beginning it could be easily December before approval. Most of you who filed CSC and are expecting NOA2 filed after me, so don't expect anything too quickly. tongue.gif

In the meantime... for those of you with some place to go tomorrow for Thanksgiving, enjoy yourselves. I'm trying not to get hung up on spending it alone.

This whole support paper is stressing me out im not sure i am filling it out right. Is there instructions somewhere i can look at? and seems how my dad and i live in the same house, does he just do the same things i fill out for support or does he have to do anything additional??? I know he makes probably at least 40,000 a year and he has a house, life insurance, retirement and stuff like that. He also has to claim himself, my brother in law, and my fiance. HOwever he doesnt have to put me on there at all does he even though i live with him? because i have my own job and a daughter ???? pleasssssse HELLPPPPP!

VJ has a sample I-134 form filled out here. Maybe that helps a little. The USCIS version does have instructions, too.

Think of filling this out like you would your federal taxes. Your dad would only claim you as a dependent if you are one normally on his taxes. Your fiancé is +1 on his dependent list. If you're unsure if he meets the requirement (it sounds like he does), you can check those here -- they use the same guidelines as the I-864 that you'll file at AOS. Look at the 125% side for the correct number, and it uses gross income.

I hope that helps!

For those of you who had your DS vaccination form transferred to the I693 (how pointless is that, seriously?), did anyone try to tell you your vaccinations were incomplete? I know all of us London embassy people went to the same place and likely have the same form.

Sebastian and I went into the civil surgeon's yesterday and even though it says "Series completed" next to his tetanus shots (as well as all other relevant shots), they tried to tell him he had to repeat the whole tetanus series. The receptionist was beyond nasty to us and although I'm usually an overly polite customer, she was being so demeaning that I interrupted her in mid-sentence, told her we'd take our business elsewhere, and slammed the door. This delays AOS yet another week while we wait for an appointment at the one other civil surgeon around here. Don't get me wrong, we're exceptionally grateful that we're finally together and married- but with the economy being so horrible it would be nice if he could start looking for serious work.

If this is better suited in an AOS thread, I'll move it but I know a few of you were talking about vaccination stuff last week.

You'd better not disappear on us! I think you posted in just the right place. Sorry to hear you're having issues with this, although I've definitely seen similar issues with vaccination transfers. Just one more bit of stupidity in this process.

My fiance got a letter that he needs to prove he can support himself, he really doesnt have a lot of money b/cos he has been paying off debts since we got engaged. He has a full time job but no real savings. No job lined up here in US. He is stressed and thinks we wont get approved on interview. (no, its not scheduled yet).
I do have savings and money to support us, but he cant prove that he does himself. How much money does he need??

Aubrey...I know you are having a difficult time with Andy and his job situation. Ugh. How is that working out?

Anybody have any suggestions??? He will NOT be a burden on US, but dont know what to do or what to tell my fiance. He thinks its hopeless and we may have to forget out getting married. Waaaaaaah! crying.gif Help!?

Wow, I never heard of the beneficiary needing to show they have any sort of funds. Since the B can't work till EAD (which is averaging the full 90 day maximum), that makes it pretty impossible for him to prove he can support himself. Are you sure the letter isn't just reminding for the I-134 and supporting documents? I am wishing you all the best that it's just a misunderstanding!

Andy isn't having any luck, so it's not going well. Trying not to think about it for a few days until he's done with his interview on Tuesday. He found a rideshare to Frankfurt to save some money, and I can tell he's trying not to mention the money thing himself. Saving money for the medical, visa fee, rideshare, and such for the interview on unemployment -- honestly, I don't know how he managed it. Hoping every day he'll have some luck. His aunt called him and told him she might have some work for him soon (he worked briefly for her company when he was still in school). I had to call in sick today for work, which doesn't help either.

I guess it's just hard for me to post at all anymore. I feel disconnected from everything since most people are already getting married and I'm still stuck on money problems. It's old. So many beautiful couples. I really do envy you all.

After all my family drama over this process, I'm figuring I won't have a reliable co-sponsor for AOS, so that just makes it more important Andy provide funds to make it till EAD. Graduation is not long away now, so hopefully I will beat the economic downturn and find a design job without much delay.

Weren't you a teacher in a past life Aubrey? Do you ever think about going back to it just to get Andy here while you look for a design job?

Returning to teaching has multiple complications (time lapsed, living in a different state, etc). But more importantly, I was a miserable, depressed human being and would never subject myself or my family and friends to that person again. K-12 is not the right place for me. I didn't go 20K+ into student loan debt just to end up back in that environment. I haven't even started my design job hunt yet, I don't finish until May.

Thanks doll, me too. Andy's stress and frustration definitely has been rubbing off on me, and he's trying to be more positive despite everything since he knows that now. It's easier to stay positive when busy, and definitely hard when you're getting nowhere on a goal like he's been with job hunting.

And hopefully this post doesn't sound too oddball. If it does, blame it on the medicine cabinet my doc prescribed me today. The codeine definitely makes me groggy. Did you guys know you can gargle children's liquid ibruprofen for a sore throat? I didn't...

NOW he and his fiance have backed out of being our best man and maid of honor. I am so stressed out over it all I feel like #######. I had to call my doctor because my blood pressure was through the roof.

Every since my son has dated this gal he has changed from being sweet to being super stuck up and snobbish toward us as if they are better then us. her parents put her through school and was babied big time..only child..everything is about her her her..I am so sick of it all.

I want him home and we are NOW thinking on eloping and not going through having friends or family come because of this. It has eaten at my heart to many times lately.

Hang in there, Meri. Family likes to get dramatic, but they'll probably turn around again before the big day.

And in other news, this is my spring break, which needed to be spent getting a portfolio together, photographing work, etc. But I'm sick as a dog and haven't gotten jack done for two days. Not fun. And Andy's mom was hit by a car a few days ago and is in the hospital waiting on surgery to correct the splintered knee and torn ligaments she received. Not a great week for us.

Great to hear everything went smoothly. Congrats and enjoy your new life with your SO!

Terri: Sorry to hear you're sick. sad.gif
Cham: Sorry to hear about your spine problems. Recurrent health problems can really bring a person down, but I trust that you're trying to stay hopeful.

I had a melt down yesterday. Andy's internet went down again the night before and I had a bad morning (I'm coordinating a group trip to Seattle for a conference...) and I flipped my lid when Andy forgot to ask how I was. The combination of pressures on me and our relationship is so close to doing me in sometimes! There never seems to be any relief. I hope something changes soon, because I don't know how to keep going with so much weight on my shoulders.

Aubrey, I know how u feel i have been in those same shoes...Johnys internet going down, him forgetting to tell me hello or ask how i am doing....and i freaked out on him then the next day cuz i was so upset that we couldnt talk. I have tried to stay calm lately but it is hard sometimes you just have to have a melt down. Your interview is the same week as ours...we had to wait 6 weeks before we got an interview and they told me it was because they didnt have any available before that which i think was complete bull ####### but oh well now only 3 weeks and 3 days to go...or 24 days...but hey who is keeping track??? haha...and i have this horrible feeling that he will not be approved...it eats me up every time i think about it...anywayz...I hope u feel better tomorrow andi n the weeks too come...*hugs*

Thanks, doll. I hope you're hanging in there, too. I think I'm probably not going to feel better until Andy finally gets hired and makes some serious dough. It's been ridiculously long. This weekend he's going to some job-search skill training and he's going to start studying for another tech certification.

Btw my VJ darlings, I'm headed to Seattle this weekend for an AIGA conference, which hopefully turns into a mental break... depends on how the two girls I'm driving act, I imagine. They're barely 21, and sometimes I feel like I could be their mom with the difference! tongue.gif

Aubrey, what's going on with your case? Andy, got his police certificate not too long ago? Are you guys waiting for packet 3?

I posted about it awhile back, but I guess it got lost in the mix. Andy's interview is not until March 26th (no idea why such a long time from when they received our packet 3 - like 2 months between). But it doesn't matter since we don't have the money to have him move over. That drives me nuts and is simply beyond my control.

Where does your VJ name come from?

Corinthians is a football club in Sao Paulo.

You can check them out here:

http://www.corinthia...ite/default.asp

If you're ever randomly wandering through Brasil, you should totally go to a game; it's awesome even if you aren't in to sports.

I was gonna ask you that very thing. I figured it was taken from the Bible book Corinthians.

Juliette, can you please explain the meaning of ur name again? we arent all rocket scientists here! laughing.gif

I thought it was biblical too. Gee, I think my name is obvious like Juliette's... but did I explain my avatar before?

If you want drama, I'll give you drama!

We leave for Barcelona in less than a week (yay!) but everything that can go wrong is going wrong. Or at least it seems that way.

-I had a haircut yesterday and they made it MUCH shorter than anticipated, meaning I can no longer do my glorious updo and will now need a veil. I was astonished at how much veils cost! $200 to put a piece of fabric on my head? Give me a break.
-My university messed up our housing situation for next year and now we are last on the signup list- meaning we're going to get a really crappy apartment next year. Great.
-My little sister is refusing to come to our legal ceremony if her deadbeat boyfriend can't come. Family drama!
-I still have that gum infection from 2 root canals last week, so my face is swollen and I look like Jay Leno.
-Said gum infection smashed all of our bachelorette party plans since I couldn't go out and drink with the meds I was on.
-We had a bachelorette party part 2 last night, now that I'm off the pain meds, and my cell phone got busted. Took me 3 hours in the shop and an unanticipated $200 and second contract to get a new one.
-Not only do I have two exams next week, plus clinicals, but we still have to write our vows, pack for Barcelona, pack for our new apartment/move to the U.S. and attend my bridal shower.

There's plenty more where that came from! I'm trying to keep my chin up, though. This time period is supposed to be stressful, right? smile.gif

Hope all is well with all of you!

Yes I am all set ! Ummmm I still have to buy my ticket, it is 100euros more than 2 weeks ago so I have some problem to push the button "purchase"...
We should all post a picture with our visa in hands !

Well done you!!
GET that ticket bought, dont know where you're looking to buy it but I went direct to the airline (British Airways) and they worked out a lot cheaper than some of these "special deal" places that advertise the "lowest rates" star_smile.gif

I looked on british airways. 2 weeks ago it was 515 euros Paris/London London/LA LA/London London/Paris, but now it is 690 euros sad.gif
I don't know why cuz' the petrol is very low these days. Anyway, I will have to buy it today, the cheapest one is with American Airlines...

Try kayak.com - it will check a bunch of websites all at once for you. It helped us find the cheapest rate last time.

Thanks everybody !

So everything was easy. I arrived at 1pm and I met 3 women. The first one asked my appointment letter and my passport. The second asked for all my documents and took my fingerprints. The last one was the consul, she asked : How did you met each other ? What is your fiancé job ? What is your job ? What are you going to do in the US ? When do you want to get married ?
And then "Congratulations, you will receive your visa within the next 7 days"
I just looked the plane tickets and it is 100 euros more expensive than 2 weeks ago sad.gif

I am super happy, first step done ! Hope that all the july filers will be done soon also !

Congrats Juliette! You must be relieved to have that over with.

Tonight's my bachelorette party!

Except this week I had two root canals and got a pretty severe gum infection, which means I'm on heavy pain killers and antibiotics- so no big night on the town as planned. Yay for looking like a chipmunk and pretending to be 13 again with a bunch of chick flicks and ice cream. sad.gif

Ouch, I remember looking like that when I had my wisdom teeth removed. I hope all the swelling goes away for your big day. I'm so looking forward to seeing everyone's wedding pics!

And I am bummed. I thought I'd have Monday off since no classes, but apparently my boss decided to change my normal work schedule in light of the university's day off. So no day off until next month. =(

well since CUSTOMS help his package forever and FORGOT it he finally got it last week SO mailing it out monday to embasssy HOPEFULLY end of this month he will have one as I am so depressed I have not felt like posting much.

I threw up over not having enough for our wedding about 400 to 500 short BUT we will get it. Our work is donating a sound system for the wedding..I cried so hard as that is EXPENSIVE and the Eagles club is giving me a discount since I sang there forever!! SO we got a place rented for 125 PLUS the kitchen I am STOKED on that..

how goes you???

Aubrey how you doing and how are those who still have no noa2..ANY NEWS????????

love you all!

Sounds like you and I are about equally stressed. You should try some relaxation techniques (deep breathing or something) as it really sounds like you're letting it get to you. It will all work out. Try not to worry so much (I know it's hard, trust me!) -- it doesn't do anything but raise your blood pressure, right?

I'm working on about 5 hours sleep and have 2 presentations today. Have to run to Kinko's to get stuff printed which should've been done yesterday, but I just can't keep up. I'm SO THANKFUL for Monday as it's my first day off in weeks -- no school or work. Trying not to think about the distance, lack of time, and money as it all just depresses me. Andy signed up for job-hunting training to help him have better success, as he still hasn't found a job. So frustrating and I know he cries about it. We're going through a book "1001 Questions to Ask Before You Get Married" which is proving theraputic, as its asking us lots of questions which remind us why we're going through this and helping us learn some oddities you just don't think to ask about.

Gotta run. Hang in there everyone!

Andy finally got the mail with his interview date -- March 26th. No idea why it's so long from now. But he's still had no luck with work -- didn't get either of the 2 jobs he interviewed for recently. And my life is basically a living hell (even though I try to stay in a good mood) since I have no time on weekends to keep up with my classwork anymore. It is quite literally constant work every day all day until I get an hour with Andy, then sleep 6 hours and do it all over again.

You can count us out on Vegas as we won't have the funds.

Glad to see more people moving forward. It's hard for me to keep up. Congrats to all and best wishes to those still waiting.

Andy and I were going to contact the embassy to find out why we haven't gotten an interview date yet, but instead he got a letter. It's not packet 4. It says "We regret to inform you that we had a small problem concerning your case. You should receive a letter with an interview date within the next days. We apologize for the delay and any inconvenience." #######?

@Cham: Haha, that line about picking made me chuckle, thanks. I actually did hang up on her the first time and then she called me back to continue it. It is hard because things have always been difficult with my mother and seemed to have improved until my divorce.

@Juliette: Yeah, my parents haven't completely digested my divorce either. I'm so sorry that your folks won't hear anything about your fiancé - that is so sad. I hope they come around for you! My folks don't seem to process how I've seemed to move along so quickly from my divorce to Andy, but for me my marriage was sort of over before it began and then really over once it started (my ex's bi-polar downswing and sitting in his car smoking every night for 3 months was just the push I needed to end it). I knew Andy for 2 years already when I divorced my ex, so it wasn't such a leap for me.

@Rob&Dawn: Thank you for how caring and supportive you've been. It's really helped me a lot. I can't tell you how much.

QUOTE (TeeKol @ Feb 2 2009, 07:53 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Aubrey I dont think any of us mind if you need to vent your frustrations here. You seem to be coping with so much at the moment its a shame that you dont have your parents support. We are here for you Aubrey, and your SO is there too dont forget. So please, dont apologise for venting, I am sure, like myself, others would love to support you as you support others.

The VJ community is a lifeline for many of us, I think. There's nothing else quite like this process (thank goodness), and the world just doesn't seem to have an ear for it. I just don't want to become the downer of the group. But of course I'll continue to support everyone here as much as I can. It's important we're there for each other.

It's nice to see the interviews coming along. I really hope to see everyone reunited again soon. The time apart is so trying on one's patience and strength. I'm impressed how some of you never seem to complain about it.

I've been trying to do the same - stay in the best of spirits despite everything. Well, it was working until I got off work today and talked to my mother. She was nothing better than a ###### to me, trying to manipulate and control me in whatever way she could come up with. It all started because I said I'm stressed out (a minor complaint I'd say considering I go to school full time and just worked all weekend), and she went off about "You did this to yourself" and "if you keep this up I'll see that Andy never comes over" (which of course I reminded her is not in her control, she doesn't understand that I will just have to put off applying for his greencard until I qualify), and saying all I do is complain, I'm not her friend I'm her "daughter" (you'd think I was 12 or something!), threatening to cancel the cell phone (my folks offered to add me to their plan when I got divorced since it was $10/month and refused to let me pay for it. I told her fine, cancel the phone and then you won't have a number to call me on, suit yourself)... I absolutely did nothing to warrant this mistreatment, and I'm so freaking tired of it. She even had the nerve to tell me she has to "walk on eggshells" every time she talks to me, "like at Christmas." I reminded her that she screamed at me and called me stupid then, so of course I was upset at her at Christmas, which she then tried to deny.

Anyhow, this is the ####### I put up with today for everything I'm doing to be responsible and in charge of my own life, having a 4.0 gpa, a job, and generally working my #### off every day. Just like I figured, I cannot count on them to co-sponsor at AOS and so Andy and I will have to put off his work authorization longer until I qualify to sponsor myself.

By the way, Andy has had 2 interviews in the last two weeks, but has yet to hear back. One job is supposed to let him know something sometime Monday, and I am going to cry again if he is not getting it. It's a halfway decent job as a hotel clerk. Please send your best thoughts, prayers, or what have you to him, as we desperately need him to work to be reunited.

Wish I could have taken pictures of a few arrangements I made today to share that so this wouldn't be such a blah post! I'm glad I found a job that is enjoyable. Just wish I had a few more hours to get stuff accomplished and sleep. I'd better get off to the store while everyone's still caught up watching football and the lines are short!
