OMG ! I'm so depressed... And I'm in the US ! I leave in 3 days and I won't see my man before the end of november. I know that you guys didn't see your loves for a long time but I can't imagine to be without him. These next 3 days will be so sad, cuz' we are so sad that I have to leave...
Help !!!!!!!!!

I know exactly how you're feeling, as I went through the same thing before Andy had to leave last month. Lots of tears before he even got on the plane. The whole thing feels terribly unfair, and it hasn't been easy to re-adjust. Honestly, I haven't. The only consolation that I can give you is that you have the time to prepare for a big move, and I'd use it while you can. Sell some things you don't want to pay to bring, donate old clothes, and gather paperwork and evidence so that you're not in a scramble when your NOA2 arrives. Hopefully that's coming very soon!

I was just trying to give suggestions to you being worried if those few things being enough to prove ongoing relationship. sorry if i annoyed you in anyway. It can probably be expensive, I know it costs me about one dollar to just send him a letter to haiti, it takes two weeks to get there but one dollar isnt bad.

Nope, not annoyed at all. Sorry if it came across that way. I'm just not worried about having enough proof and I'm poor. wink.gif

Wow, what a bunch of babies. I have never seen a group of "grown ups" who feel they have a right to citizenship in another country complain about that country so much. I've been waiting a long time for my K-1 too and I come to VJ to gain insight into the process and have learned a great deal from those who have been through this and can answer questions. But this thread has degenerated into nothing more than complaining about how terrible the USA is for placing a premium on citizenship in that country. Let me ask you. Once you get to the USA and begin enjoying all the benefits of citizenship there, do you want the USA to hand out visas like candy? Grow up people! Your prospective citizenship in the US is a privilege - it is NOT a right!

Believe it or not, there is a rational justification for the US to make this a little more than a walk in the park. You guys are complaining about 75 days and no touch!! Are you kidding me? The six to eight months that it takes to gain citizenship in the greatest country on earth is a blink of an eye. Stop complaining that your instant gratification appetites aren't being satisfied over night and start appreciating the fact that you have a chance to live in the USA. Personally, I can't wait to get to the US and I miss my fiance very much. But I know I am going to be there soon. But before I get there, I refuse to have a negative attitude about my new homeland. Chill out people! It's 3 more months! You'll survive, trust me.

First of all, this is MY country, and one of the things I appreciate about it is my FREEDOM OF SPEECH. I can say what I wish about my country, and I think I have every right to complain about a broken system.

Second, nobody invited you here to pick on people. We're all here to support each other through a long wait. If you don't like what is being said here, exercise your own right to BUTT OUT.

Third, you should spend more time reading up about this process. K1 has nothing to do with US citizenship. And the long waits have nothing to do with making the process better in any way, shape, or form. The long wait between NOA1 and 2 (approval) is primarily because USCIS doesn't have enough manpower for the job. So, I'm rightfully angry that I'm waiting around while my file is sitting in storage. Don't dare to judge me or my friends here in this thread when you haven't even educated yourself as to what this process is, or bothered to fill in a timeline, or even to read the MANY POSITIVE POSTS IN THIS THREAD.

Finally, if you decide to contribute to this thread, please be respectful of everyone and don't jump to conclusions. We're a supportive group, and everyone has difficult times during our long wait. Some people have been apart a very long time, and it hurts. Be kind, or please don't bother posting here.

You should try sending your fiance a letter a week. That is what I am trying to do of course though it has been awhile since I have sent him another one. But I save our conversations we have on AIM that way that proves that we have beeng talking to eachother on a regular basis. Im afraid to that I am not doing something right or that I am missing something I guess we can just hope for the best.

I can see your frustrations with everything. I think that we are all having them. I only get to talk to my fiance if im lucky three times a week for 30 minutes at a time and sometimes 60. It just never seems enough for me. We went from talking every day and seeing eachother often to this. It is very hard. For a few weeks i was getting very frustrated and felt myself pulling away because it just isnt good enough not being able to talk to him or see him. But I got my ### back on track and just keep telling myself that him coming home is just around the corner. It sucks because all of these other stressors in my life are not helping the situation any. Not having him here for me while Im going through some pretty rough times is the hardest thing I have ever had to do.

Keep you head up and hopefully we will be hearing something soon!!!
Just remember the big picture.

A letter a week? Going to the post office for that all the time would drive me nuts. Either that or spend $19 on a pack of international stamps, and frankly I'd rather save that money for my gloomy financial situation ahead. I really don't see the consulate denying us because of lack of evidence. Three trips this year, some pictures, and a couple cards should be plenty! Germany isn't exactly a high-risk fraud country. But if it just makes you feel better, then all the better for you to keep sending those letters.

In January they were coming out of VSC in six weeks.

They have taken people out of the Vermont Visa center to work on Citizenship petitions before the election in November and don't expect to be back to full strength staff wise until the middle of November.

Yes I am impatient. I am annoyed with the system. I find myself quite unable to conjur up a cheerful outlook in the face of this.

So far this week neither center has issued a single noa2, the last being issued on the 10th, and even though yes, I am aware not everyone with a petition is a member here, you think you would see one approval.

We are an older couple than many of you, 55 and 58 respectively, and I resent like the very devil that some unaccountable faceless governmental pack of bureaucrats are in a position to make decisions that will effect the rest of our lives.

There are plenty of broken things in the American bureaucracy, and unfortunately immigration may be at the top of the list. Many of us are pissed off about it, and I share your anger and frustration on a daily basis. I don't think that age really divides us on this issue. I think we're all rightfully upset to be separated from our loved ones.

The only thing I can say for your case is that Vermont tends to approve cases significantly faster than CSC, so you could easily see an approval very soon. I know with the holidays coming up that may be not be too comforting, but I hope it helps a little to know your waiting time should be ending soon. I hope for all of us we see our approvals sooner than our VJ estimates. Until then, we're all here to lend you support during this waiting. Hang in there.

I am hoping that my age difference will not be a factor and the fact that i got divorced WHILE kai was here (fought for over a year to get it done THEN the s-o-b signs then WHEN kai was here...JERK)
I am also taking screen shots of all the calls i made to kai and he will to on his end from yahoo messenger.
I have a LIST ROFL

I just want to be PREPARED!!!

I guess that I'm weird on this part. I'm not very concerned about proving the ongoing relationship, mostly since Andreas was here for so long. He's got a few pictures from when he was here, he'll have a couple cards I mailed, and that's probably it. I won't be there to make it all organized for him, and I can't afford to mail more weight of paper than I have to. Actually, I'm going to have to FedEx the documents needed, because we've had a problem with mail getting lost between here and there 3 times now.

I feel so grumpy this week. I get an hour or two, with multiple interruptions, with Andy on most days, and it's just so inadequate to fill the void. I can't seem to settle back in to our old routine since his visit. I miss doing other things together besides sit at the damned computer. It's like going backwards in our relationship, and even worse since we've got less time with our current schedules than ever. And then I have my mother calling me all the time asking if he's had any luck with job hunting, saying we should wait till May to bring him here so we both find work, etc. As if I'm not already grumpy missing Andy and worrying about our finances, she adds to the weight of it all. I hate hearing it from her even more when I know that they have money coming out of their ears.

I keep hoping to get some good news. Andy needs a job. I need to see an NOA2. Or money to fall from the sky. Or somehow I invent a teleporter. tongue.gif

Another week comes. One foot in front of the other.

According to everything I've read on VJ, you don't need to submit W2's if you use tax transcripts (as opposed to your tax return). If you are using your SS as income, I'd probably include a copy of that, since you normally include paystubs for traditional income.

No problem. I certainly try to be informed to avoid any delays. I will do just about anything to get him back here asap. I think I check VJ so much because it feels really strange now since he was here for 3 months. I forgot how to entertain myself for such long periods of time. I never liked it anyways. VJ helps fill the void when I don't have deadlines to keep me occupied. Then the deadlines get done, like yesterday (I finished designing my first magazine cover to cover), and I feel the void worse than ever because there's nobody celebrating with me. I couldn't exactly justify calling Andy when it was the middle of the night in Germany. tongue.gif

Don't hesitate to post questions. I'm sure someone can find the resources. I've asked some odd ones on VJ already myself, and somehow there's always help -- sometimes it just takes bumping the topic a few times or PMing to get the right person's attention. wink.gif

Speaking of questions...
Anyone know if having the I-134 (affidavit of support for interview) and I-864 (affidavit of support of AOS) paperwork & accompanying documents can be signed/gotten at the same time? Or will it be considered too out of date when AOS comes? I hate to have my folks/co-sponsors get paystubs and sign/mail me forms twice if I can avoid it.

Yeah, I had Andreas start gathering all the paperwork on his end (birth cert., military records, etc) so all he'll have left is to receive some stuff from me/my folks and his medical. I have to start gathering the doc's for the sponsor/co-sponsor stuff still. Not much I can get ahead on with it, since they want pretty current documents for that.

I am awaiting our NOA2 also, but embarrasssingly dont know what documents to get ready for the next step. I was all sorted and knew what I needed, but I think my brain has gone to mush coz I cant locate where I put it. Can you please outline what is needed? I am having such a hard time being away from my man (as everyone must be, being away from the most important person in their life) sorting this may help.

Thanks

Each consulate has different requirements. Check out the Embassy reviews section at the top and find your country's embassy link. Often they list what documents you'll need before your interview on their individual website (and you can find the link there along with other helpful info). I hope that helps!

I swear If you all knew here you would not WANT to. From day one she has hated me; and I have tried HARD to get her to like me, but she has not liked anyone her children date...SO I just ignore it now and let him deal with it.

SIGH...MAYBE one day

anyway HOW does he find this out? any?? LOL

I'm so sorry you're having trouble with your future mother-in-law. I guess you'll be lucky she'll be living half a world away from you two. wink.gif Some people just seem to enjoy making life difficult for others.

As for the medical vaccinations, I'm not familiar with Australia's healthcare system. But doctors keep records a pretty long time, so your SO could always call up his old doctor(s) and get the records from them. At least that's what I would try if this happened to me. I hope you have some luck. Alternatively, I've seen some people on here not have those records and just get re-vaccinated, too.

I wish you luck in resolving this!

On a completely different topic, I'm a 2nd time auntie. I have a new baby niece named Maya. Here she is - I can't wait to meet her. Nothing like a baby picture to cheer everyone up, right? smile.gif

November. Seems like an eternity away from now. This last week has dragged on for ages. Studio and internship job are pure stress atm (ever design an entire magazine in a week? that's what i'm doing. ugh!), and Andy's been too sick to get out of bed for several days. Two more months before I have a shot at an NOA2 is... yeah, I'm not going to start on that tonight.

Trying to keep busy, and I'll be an aunt a second time soon so that'll distract me a bit.

I had a dream today that someone from VJ told me my case was touched. I laughed in response at them, then checked and I'd gotten my NOA2 and was relieved and excited. Then I woke up. sad.gif

If you can hold out, that's what I'd recommend. I don't know about Haiti in particular, but often the interview takes place as little as a month after NOA2, which could easily put his interview around the end of December. You two could be together soon after that.

If you can't hold out through Christmas, I agree with Corinthians - you're probably better off making arrangements to go there, as obtaining a visitor's visa is likely to be pretty tough given the K1 application.

Trying to keep busy. Andy's still pooped from his long flight so I've only had a short hello time. He's going to need another day to recover - that 9 hour time change is a doosey. Then hopefully he'll stay busy with job hunting and stuff during the day. We're sure going to need the money to help pay for all the visa/medical/flight/wedding/AOS stuff coming up down the road. Wish I had time to work a part-time job to make the financial stuff less overwhelming, but it's not realistic with my studio projects & intern job. I have a ton of work to catch up on this weekend since last week I couldn't focus on it.

Basically I'm trying to keep my nose to the grindstone so I don't notice how empty and quiet this place feels without Andy here.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words and consoling. It's really helped me. I can't stand hearing from people not going through this - "it's not forever" or otherwise blowing it off like it's no big deal. It feels so much better knowing there are people out there that really understand and care.

Hopefully we can avoid a flame war on our thread. I respect everyone here, but I'd like to send a friendly reminder that VJ isn't just a place for information but also provides a support network for those of us who need it. Sometimes that involves sharing the negative things that nobody else in this world understands.

I hope that we all can respect each other's opinions and feelings throughout this process.

As for my own opinions... I'm not looking for a pity party, but some days the wait hurts more than others. I find it ridiculous that our system takes so long. Multiple reasons make moving to Germany unworkable for me; however, their system allows adjusting status without any sort of fiancé visas. With some light paperwork, I could enter on the VWP into Germany, marry, and be a legal resident in a few weeks. My anger and sorrow comes from differences like this and this K1 process that forces me to be apart from my future husband unless I abandon my own country. This is not the America that I pledge allegiance to; it is a broken bureaucracy. I will never defend a process that keeps families apart for so long. We can do better in this, my country.

/steps off pulpit

Agree with me or not, that is my opinion and feel free to stop reading my posts if they make this journey more difficult for you. There are other ways of getting information and sharing besides this thread if the sharing we do here is offensive to you -- PMs, following igor's lists, and timelines, etc. I do, however, hope that we all can respect each other's different ways of getting through this wait and try to support each other. Let's not make it harder than it already is.

Well, Andreas started his journey back to Germany today. I'm trying not to fall completely apart. If there was any possible way around spending this time apart, I would do it. I cried so much today that my contacts were all foggy the last hour of my 2 hour drive home. I can't describe how hard it is to people around me what it's like to find the person that completes you, spend 3 months making a home together, and have to say goodbye for an unknown length of time. The thing that keeps me going is knowing that he needs me as much as I need him. But it's cold comfort right now when I'm crying and he can't be here to wipe away my tears.

My heart is aching and it's a good thing nobody from USCIS is in my vicinity right now or I'd punch them for doing this to us. It makes me sick that we filed 2 1/2 months ago and our wait is less than half over.

I'm happy for the June vermont filers, and I'm so pissed that Vermont is running 2 months ahead of CSC. This system is the biggest load of bullshit and red tape.

BUT i think the 90 days refers to entry into the US i believe from reading other post that they have a 6 month wait if you dont have enough money saved or so on for plane home..BUT 90 day is upon entry

Yep, correct. I was asking if those with May weddings minded their SO's staying out of the US for extra time. I do. I want Andy back here ASAP. I don't want to wait around an extra month or two because I booked something later than we needed. Maybe for others the big day is more important. I don't know, that's why I'm asking.

I don't think it's too presumptuous to think you could have your wedding in May. Unless something goes wrong, most of us should be done by January or February. My SO will be on a plane within a few weeks of visa approval. We don't want to wait to be together. If you get approved in January, are you willing to wait another couple months to bring your SOs here? Your K1 is only good for 90 days- you have to get married within that time period in order to adjust status.

I'm not booking anything until the visa is in his hands, but I'm hoping for Spring Break as a target wedding time.

Have you guys checked your timelines lately? It's insane how fast they are moving the dates up...maybe all those extra people and higher fees helped. I've gone from mid December to Last week of November over the last month. kicking.gif

well they need to change mine then darn it! Mine is the same...HMMM can we move it to umm lets see SEPT!!! ROFL

Yeah, mine has moved up ~a week or so in the last couple of weeks. I'm trying not to let it get my hopes up, though, since those dates fluctuate based on people entering timeline data.

I would be careful what you say about those who adjust status from the VWP because once I too called it a "loophole" and had a gang of posters jump on me for it for 1- implying that people were trying to commit fraud and 2- using the word "loophole".

Oh yeah, I remember that little episode - let's not go there again. no0pb.gif

Well... maybe I'm the odd one here, but I think it's crazy that there's a K1 visa at all. Since there's still AOS to make it legal to stay afterwards, there's already something in place to check backgrounds, do interviews, etc. I think it's cruel and unusual punishment by our government to keep me apart from the person I want to marry and charge me a ton of money to do it. And think of the people on K3/K2... that's even worse, keeping people from their own current family members! I'd advocate ditching this stupid K system all together and allow adjusting from visitor visas.... but that's just me.

I think it was more a case of personal feelings involved because of the poster I was interacting with.

Anyway. smile.gif

I've been following you July filers ever since the beginning as I was meant to be one too. Bringing you lots of hopefulness.

Those moments are precious! heart.gif
And I agree that i don't think most couples in long distance relationships take each other for granted. We cherish each moment we have with our loved one, whether in person, via messenger, phone etc.

And like all july '08 filers, i tell myself that it won't be long until i will be with my SO.....finally smile.gif

(Patience is a virtue....... I think we could all get gold medals for that yes.gif )

Okay, I don't get that gold medal, because I am anything but patient with this whole thing! That's why Andy is here now! If I was patient, we'd have saved the money (and it's a lot when he's not working to be here, + the flight cost) towards our wedding instead of visiting. Being with him now trumps whatever happens to our ceremony... I think I take maybe an Honorable Mention in patience. tongue.gif

QUOTE (Terri and Seb @ Sep 3 2008, 11:57 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Aww, don't worry! I wasn't reading in disgust. Just reminding you to be strong and optimistic since that's what will make the difference between a bearable separation and an unbearable one smile.gif. I'm glad we can all be here for each other!

Thanks for the wedding dress links too. I'm searching now! I'd put pics of the one I want up, but Sebastian is sneaky and would totally peek.

So he knows about this July filer thread? I think Andy likes to avoid thinking about all the bad stuff with this process, so he stopped reading VJ and only looks when I mention it. You can always send me a PM with your wedding dress idea... whistling.gif

And yeah, I know I should try to remain positive, but I get so disheartened when I don't have an end in sight. All that I have in front of me ATM is he's leaving, time apart, stress, unknowns, and reading posts like this that make me disgusted that I'm being penalized for doing this the "right way." I still find it ridiculous that it takes so many months and we STILL have to do AOS afterwards. Why can't I get married and adjust status from the VWP no matter what? Hell, it's legal to do in Germany!

Sorry for another rant... I'm having a bad day I guess. One of my cats is sick (he bit my finger when I gave him medicine this morning! ohmy.gif ) and that post I read kind of set me off. blush.gif But thanks for everyone for their posts and ongoing support. It's comforting to know that there are people here that understand and won't brush me off when I talk about it. Be sure I'll be there for all of you in the upcoming months! heart.gif

Hey guys,

I just found out a new law to travel to the USA with the waiver program. Now we need an authorisation to travel that you ask online.
Maybe it is a good news for us, cuz' even if you still have to pass the immigration border, you have this document.
What I mean is that I was thinking to go to the US in february if we are not approved before january 15th. I was scarred to get denied, but with the new law it will maybe be easier. What do you think ? Here is the link :

I doubt it will change anything for the positive - I'd imagine it just gives homeland security more time to do background checks.

Have you tried a steam vaporizer? They have some you can put Vick's in. Those sprays actually make your stuffiness worse after 3 days of use (need to skip 7 days afterwards).

Well at least u are lucky enough to have recieved ur packet 3 yet. does anyone know what type of police certificate they need. Johny said that there are two different ones and one you only have to wait 30 minutes for. Do u think it would be okay for him to make his medical exam and get that done and over with? im just looking for anyway to get this process moving along seems how they keep slowing us down. I hate this process it is ridiculous and they keep giving us the run around.

I assumed it's fine, and I had Andy schedule his medical appointment prior to getting packet 3 (which says they will explain it after he gets an interview date tongue.gif ). They couldn't schedule it for a month, but there's walk-in hours at the Frankfurt medical office if for some reason he needs to do it a different day. The medical is supposed to be good for 6 months according to the Germany embassy site, but you'd best check your individual country.

Let's try not to do "at least you" stuff... we all suffer and wait during this process, and nobody here is trying to top anyone else. This is the only place I've got to vent my frustrations. The police certificate thing has me very frustrated, as we waited around over a month for a certificate that was never coming and we can't send packet 3 back. I certainly never meant to imply my situation was any worse than someone else's.

well we got approved back on november 5th and still have not received packet 3 instructions yet...so hang in there...the embassy keeps giving us the run-around like call them today and then call them next week...i am getting very fed up and his noa2 expires at the begining of march and it is almost january...and i agree it is PURE AGONY!

Well accdg to NVC/DHL tracking, they received our case last dec 18.. i know i know, holidays and all.. but I have not heard from them yet. The USEM here in Bermuda doesn't get lots of K1 visa at all.. it's quite a small island so I figured that it wouldnt take them long to put it in their system and send the packet 3. I dont know if i should call and ask maybe.. its the agony.. hehe smile.gif and i really hope something happens before the new year at least!

Don't worry about NOA2 expiration. The embassy commonly extends the validity, and it should be no problem to do so.

Sorry to see so many hold ups at embassies. Our hold up is with getting a darn police certificate. I told Andy to go by the local police station again Friday if he doesn't have it yet. I still can't believe the embassy pointed us to a state agency (the wrong place) and didn't even bother to send a letter saying they wouldn't issue a certificate. They even have our money for it already. I'm fed up with waiting around and separation. I haven't barely spoken to Andy in 2 days because his Internet is down (again).

And the weather here STINKS. It snowed more again this morning, and now it's raining. I got stuck in the driveway today because the road plows pushed it all in the way, and it's too heavy to shovel since it's so wet. More snow coming tomorrow. mad.gif

QUESTION: If they Change the poverty level again for 2009 will that effect our fiance visa?? OR do we still get to use the 2008 one because we filed in 2008??? I HOPE NOT!!! I made my self sick worrying about it today.

I would think they would base it off of when you filled it out and the tax information you were able to submit. You're probably not even going to have Kai at an interview after the tax deadline for the 2008 tax year, which the poverty guidelines are set for. I think the 2009 guidelines wouldn't apply until the 2009 tax year.

In the craziness of the holiday, Andy got his letter from the embassy saying they have the case. He also talked to the local police station because we found out the embassy website links to the WRONG place to get a police certificate. So they told him it will take 2 weeks for them to get him a certificate locally. I'm so frustrated wasting this time, as we're not supposed to send back the checklist till he has everything. That's the only thing he's missing.

His family has been sweet (I wish mine would be too! mad.gif ) and gave him money and a suitcase for Christmas. They're going to mail the engagement gifts to us (one of his grandmothers gave us bedding and pillows blink.gif - won't exactly fit in a suitcase) after he arrives. We certainly can use any help we can get.

Some others of you have mentioned money issues, so I thought I'd share something I found here on VJ about the AOS fee. Apparently someone on the board got a fee waiver and it even has it's own form. Here's the link to the USCIS page on it. I started looking into stuff in case I have to sponsor Andy myself when I (re-)graduate and stumbled upon it.

I'm finally home. Ugh, what a trip home. The snow and ice made for airport delays, and the jetway bridge in Spokane had a wheel frozen stuck which left my plane parked at the gate with everyone "hostage" for over 45 minutes just to deplane. Then the ~90 minute drive home this morning took 4 hours because of the heavy snow and wind. Yuck!

The holiday was really not great for me. My mother showed her ugly side and called me "stupid" (while screaming at me) for marrying Andy while neither of us is working (me finishing my 2nd degree here in May and Andy unable to find work in this ####### economy). That was what she unleashed by me simply asking if she was excited about Andy and I getting married. Then my father tried to console me but only added to the ugly with ####### about money, my recent divorce, etc. So much BS with them.

On a completely off-topic note, how does one get a county/state where you no longer live to stop sending you jury summons? This is the 3rd one I've gotten, and I'm getting really tired of it (both other times I sent it back with the box checked "I don't live in Travis county" and the address they're sending it to clearly lists IDAHO as the To: address). Any ideas would be much appreciated... I haven't lived there for over 2 years now!

Hopefully my package to Andy makes it to him Monday. It cleared customs on the 26th. Hope he gets his packet 3 soon so we can get an interview date!

So I guess he'll get the packet 3 any time now.

In other news, Cham, I heard from a friend it snowed a FOOT where I live! Egad, the roads coming home this weekend will probably still be a mess. I guess we're not getting a milder winter this time, huh?

Merry Christmas everyone!
