PhilippinesIF YOU'RE NOT MARRIED YET AS K1, CAN YOU STILL TRAVEL OUTSIDE US?

No you can not travel outside the U.S. before you get married ...

K-1 is a single entry visa ...

If you leave before you file adjustment of status you will not be able to re-enter the U.S. ...

After you are married you will file for AOS ... and you must also file for Advance Parole before you can leave and re-enter ...

After you get your green card you can leave and re-enter with no restrictions ...

PhilippinesMarry in USA or Philippines?

If you are both unsure how things will be with each other in the US the K1 is what you want.

I would suggest that if you are unsure ... dont even bother filing for ANY visa ... you will probably save yourself a whole lot of problems down the road ...

Before you commit yourself to this be very sure this is really what you want ... and then stick it out ...

I agree with those that said forget about filing a K-3 ... waste of time and money ...

Okay all that said ...

K-1 VS CR-1

K-1 cost less initially ... and MAY be a little faster ... or maybe not faster ... processing times for K-1 and CR-1 are pretty similar thesedays ... once she arrives in the U.S. and you get married ... K-1 requires a lot more paper and costs a lot more money ...

CR-1 ... you must get married in the Philippines ... and that is not difficult ... but one problem can be the time it takes to get your marriage license ... 10 days ... if you can live with that requirement ... then it is no problem ...

With CR-1 your wife will get her green card automatically in the mail about 2 weeks after she arrives ... and she will also get her Social Security card in the mail automatically about a week after she has her green card ... once she has both of these cards she can work ... not so with a K-1 ... requires filing AOS ($1,010 USD) and a trip to the Social Security office to apply for a Social Security card ... AFTER the AOS is processed ... if you apply for EAD she can work while she waits for the AOS to process ... EAD costs about $340 USD ...

My advice ... get married in the Philippines ... file for CR-1 ...

I responded too quickly ...

After reading further and seeing the interview questions you posted ...

It appears to me the interviewer is not convinced your relationship is genuine ... and based on his suspicion he was not willing to approve your visa ... instead placing you on AR and allowing someone else higher up to decide to approve or denie ...

Just wait and see what comes next ...

Why don't you give us more information on what happen exactly. Why did he call you a lair and what question did he ask you? Be specific.

This is my thought too ...

It seems that she is leaving a large part of the story out ...

What was it that she is being accused of not being truthful about ???

It seems to me ... there is nothing wrong with her documents or none missing ... the interviewer suspects something ... the fact he called her a liar says he believes something is suspect and I would imagine the "review" is to investigate his suspeicion further ...

If the original poster can please provide more information about why you were called a liar ... maybe things will make more sense to the readers here and better advice can be given ...

PhilippinesMarried Filipinos who send money to family back in Philippines

Great question and topic for discussion ...

It is not much of an issue for Belinda and me ...

We send a Balikbayan box once a year or so ... and several times a year Belinda will send some money to her mom but its not a large figure and I dont have any problem with sending it at all ... after all ... it is MY family too ...

Belinda has 3 siblings working abroad who also send money home ... so the burden is split 4 ways and not too much problem for any of the 4 children who help Nanay ...

PhilippinesDual Citizenship and Passport Renewal

yes she still is eligible for a phil. passport.

if she has not yet apply for citizenship, it is assumed that she'll stay a legal permanent resident, who has the prerogative to stay an LPR (renew after every 10yrs) or apply for naturalization whenever she wants

all she has to do then is renew her expired passport.

The question was if she bacame a naturalized U.S. citizen could she renew her Philippines passport ...

The answer is NO ... she is no longer a Philippines citizen ... she is a U.S. citizen and as such is not eligible to hold a Philippines passport ...

However ... if or when she reacquires her Philippines citizenship and becomes a dual citizen ... she can then hold a Philippines passport again ...

PhilippinesDual Citizenship and Passport Renewal

So my question is, can she just wait till she gets her U.S. Citizenship, then go to Chicago to re-acquire Filipino Citizenship and then at the same time renew her passport?

Yes she can do this ...

However she will not be able to travel outside the country until she has her U.S. passport or until she re-acquires Filipino citizenship and gets her new Philippines passport ...

How about if she didn't want to do dual citizenship? Can she just renew her Philippine passport and not declare that she's naturalized?

No ...

She is not eligible for a Philippines passport if she is a U.S. citizen and does not re-acquire Philippines citizenship ...

and i thought that hotel would have been great location-wise since it's right outside the mall

Just FYI ...

All the hotels I posted earlier ... are within a 5 minute walk to Robinson's Mall ...

They are all clustered in that same area ... I particularly like Las Palmas ... but Executive Plaza and Palm Plaza are equally nice ... and just as close to the mall as well ... Tropicana is another place worth looking at ...

If you already have reservations at Cherry Blossoms Hotel ... stay there ... its a nice place ... not the best ... but it is clean and safe and very close to the mall ... I think you will be happy there ...
