I was looking at the forms I have to fill after my noa2 and I have this odd question. I know that we can have another piece of paper attached with the application but must it be handwritten or typed from computer? For example there is not enough space for the adresses of the parents or the name of the colleges.

So I requested one from the Greek embassy since I live in Germany, and they have my birth year wrong. The lady at the embassy told me its a typical mistake and that they will probably send it with the wrong date again, 1985 instead of 1983 so she erased it and fixed it. She then stamp the document and the translator , well translated it. It can be barely seen but still will I have an issue? I mean my passport says my correct birth year. Sigh..

Hey all,

So happy! We just got notification NOA2 in less than 4 months. My fiancee will be applying at the embassy in Bogota shortly, but I want to be prepared today for what I have to send. I've seen scattered information like sending on more evidence of our relationship such as phone records, and that sort of thing but I need to know more about the financial requirements necessary.

I've been saving all my pay stubs, but the problem is my taxes.

For a couple of reasons (including actually living with mi novia in Colombia) I haven't filed taxes since 2009. Nothing shady, was still labeled as a dependent, and also worked outside of the U.S. the majority of the time.


So I'm wondering, what financial documents are necessary to send on for her interview?
Also any other requirements would be super helpful!

If she comes to the states and you two get married then the K1 will be null and void since she will then be your wife and not a fiancee. If you get married then she will need to return to her country and you will have to start all over filing for a CR-1 visa for a spouse. An option you can do is still have everyone together in december and have a wedding celebration so everyone can be there to celebrate with you. Then once your K-1 getts approved and she comes here you two can go to the courthouse and sign papers for a legal marriage. This is just an idea i wanted to throw out there, since you are already 3+ months into K-1 i would think things will be moving along for you soon. and you dont want all this time spent for nothing. I hope you get it figured out and good luck on your visa process (whichever one you decide to do) :)

I find the whole process for a developed country a complete communication nightmare from the lack of comms, to the bad indication of timeframes and the apparent poor connections between USCIS and NVC. Trying to keep positive and I will keep you updated on the journey folks! My daughter is now 13 months old, thank heavens for Skype!


I don't know whether this is true or not, but I heard that the process of immigration became much more complicated, difficult, and as slow as molassas in the states after the tragedy of September 11, 2001 (meaning there was outrage that the terrorists had such an easy time getting into the USA). I would imagine that budget cuts and the recession likely mean there are fewer and fewer USCIS and NVC employees to review cases. And I'm sure there are other excuses out there (for why the process takes months and months).

Hang in there...we feel your pain....you are NOT alone!

My fiance is now scheduled for his consulate interview. There's been a looming question that I have just not wanted to ask but I suppose it would be better to know before our interview. My fiance was a realtor for 21 years but in the housing crash, he lost his career, his home, his family...everything. Then he went into home renovations, fell, was severely injured and had surgery but has not recovered. He is living on Canadian provencial disability. He will be immigrating here (Seattle) and his "work" will be to use his marketing / sales skills and experience to help build / market my business (I'm a public speaker / consultant / published author). My salary will support us ($58,000 yr), I've filled out the Affidavit of Support, and I've supplied him with my last 3 years of tax records.

So here's my question: Will the fact that he's disabled automatically mean they won't give him a visa? We have no plans or need for him to collect disability here, but will they deny him because he collected it in Canada (i.e. will they consider him a risk and deny because of that)? Or, is the fact that I sign the Affidavit of Support sufficient for an approval. I read somewhere about geting financial sponsors - do I line someone up now and have the documentation with my fiance for his interview, or wait to see if in the interview they tell my fiance that we need a financial sponsor?

So, they are not asking how we met? I mean, whether we were introduced by a mutual friend, or met online, etc.? This is all about the first meeting in person? This is what has me confused.


We also met online. If it's any help to you, at all, here's a copy of the description we attached with our I129. We did not receive any RFEs.

My fiance and I first met online in May 2009 playing “World of Warcraft”. We soon became an inseparable couple. Since that time, we have spent at least 2-3 hours together online each day (some days much more), chatting via Skype or Google Talk, playing games, etc.

In 2011, we decided we should meet in person (finally) and take our online relationship to the next level. Late that spring, we applied for a tourist visa for him to come here to visit me, but it was denied. So instead we decided we’d take a trip together, and we’d both always wanted to visit Ireland.

On December 21, 2011, we met up in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and flew together to Dublin, Ireland. We spent 15 days there together, touring the city and enjoying our first Christmas together. We visited the Guinness Storehouse (December 28), Dublinia (January 4), and many other sights, including taking a day tour of the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher on January 3. On January 4, he proposed to me in front of the massive organ inside Christchurch Cathedral, and I happily said yes. On January 6, we flew back to Amsterdam together, and said our goodbyes, then returned to our respective homes.

And dang I get choked up reading that! haha

This evening I called the NVC to see if they had received our I129F packet. When asked to confirm "the beneficiary" (my fiance's) birthdate, I got confused and said the wrong year, off by one. It's the same birthday as my dad, and plus I have four other relatives with birthday in a four-day period around that date. When he said I had the birthdate wrong, I couldn't figure out what I'd said wrong (not realizing at the time it was the year), so I had to check the papers and tell him from there.

Is this going to be held against us in the court of immigration because I messed up his birth year? The more I think about it, the more nauseous I feel.

The expiration date will be printed on the visa, while 6 months validity is the norm, it may be less than that so it's very important to closely check the expiration date and use the visa before that date.

My two cents is this, go ahead with your plans to marry and then file a spousal visa petition. In the meantime, keep tabs on this current petition to see just what the outcome will be (especially if USCIS decides to issue a Notice of Intent to Revoke {NOIR}).

There is a high degree of probability that USCIS will simply let the petition expire and that will be it. However, if they decide to issue a NOIR, then that notice must be responded to and it must be responded to by the deadline that is on the notice.

For the P3, only Part I of the DS-230 needs to be completed (it's in the instructions I took from the Consulate website that I linked to previously).

For the spouse questions on it, write NONE for name of spouse and then all the other spouse questions write N/A.

You may want to consider sending updated financials.

P3 calls for a completed DS-230, you can fill that out and send it to her (she will sign Part I, but she will not sign Part II per form instructions).

Signatures on the statement of intent and the form must be original, pdf or fax will not be accepted. He will have to mail you the G-325A and the statement of intent with his original signature.

You don't need to wait for your passport to be renewed in order to file an I-129F.

a) If so, how? He is allowed to use the VWP while the petition is in progress, there is no guarantee CBP will permit him entry, he should carry ties to the UK in case they are asked for
b) Is it better for him to apply for the B2 visa BEFORE I mail the I29F forms? applying for a B2 is unnecessary. It's also ill-advised because if it is refused (very likely), then he would be unable to visit you on the VWP during the process
c) Can he still come and visit once I send the I29F forms with the VWP? yes
2. How long for the K-1 visa to be processed? 5 months from NOA1 to NOA2 is the posted time by USCIS, your actual time may be less, it may be more; after NOA2, file will need to be assigned a case number by the NVC and then sent to the Embassy
3. Should I get a lawyer? How comfortable are you filling out paperwork? Are there any issues in either of your backgrounds that could complicate things?
4. This "BURDEN OF PROOF" that needs to be met when he visits, how is it done? With what papers? examples include but are not limited to, letter of employment, rental agreement or deed to home (if owned)
5. Is it better for him to apply for the B2 visa BEFORE I mail the I29F forms? see my answer to 1b

I don't know what you are talking about. My wife filed I-130 at the Embassy in Cairo last April. This is called DCF. They are not processing any more of those till further notice. A friend of ours called them up and they told her that plus the website page that has the information about it has been removed.


I am talking about this announcement that was made last May after your wife had filed the petition at the Embassy in Cairo (I know what DCF is called by the way :whistle:). That announcement specifically states that effective August 15, 2011, if there is no USCIS field office in the country, the I-130 petition will have to be sent to the Chicago lockbox. That announcement supersedes anything your friend might have been told about "suspended until further notice" (a term that implies it would be available again in the not too distant future, it would have been more proper to say DCF is not an available option). Furthermore, the website page that had that information was removed because of the announcement I linked to and Egypt is not on this list of USCIS International Offices.

Incorrect, DCF hasn't been suspended in Egypt until further notice, it's not an option in Egypt at all. This is because there is no USCIS field in Egypt.

You'll have to come here, get married, go back to the US and file from there.


Also incorrect, an I-130 petition can be sent from an overseas location (including Egypt) to the lockbox facility in Chicago.
