IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDifference between Co-Sponsor and Joint Sponsor
like they are two different things but have the same purpose. Which is to help the peitioner reach the 125% poverty line. A co-sponsor (resides in the same household as the petitioner) fills out the I-864A. A joint sponsor (doesn't reside in the same household as the petitioner) fills out another I-864. But no matte what, the petitioner still needs to fill out an I-864 whether or not he or she meets the 125% poverty requirements. God bless! star_smile.gif

Hi. In my case I haven't filed taxes ever... hehe well it is because I have been a full time student forever. hehe what i did when i petitioned my husband was get my dad as the co-sponsor. but i still filled out a I-864 cause I was the petitioner. I attached a letter to explain why I didn't file taxes and documents like my school transcripts, etc to prove that I was a full time student and didn't have any income. good luck! star_smile.gif

Hi everyone! I am not sure if I am posting this in the right forum. Please move it if it is in the wrong place.

Anyway, my husband and I are planning to go to Canada for a little vacation. Just probably like 2-3 days. Does he need to apply for a reentry permit? he is here on an IR-1 visa and already has his 10-year green card. Thank you! smile.gif

How many people are sponsors vs beneficiary's? Maybe that is why they are requesting the information.

Plus, why would your brother use your parents for co-sponsors if he makes more than the poverty level? Is he financially responsible for others in the house?

If your parents sponsored your aunt/uncle, and now your brother is using them to sponsor, that is a lot of people...

hey girl how are you? smile.gif

Hehe So what I did was attach a letter stating that I was a full time medical student and I didn't engage in any type of employment at all. Then I also attached a letter from my school to prove that I was enrolled there and the transcripts from my pre-med course and medical courses. Good luck!

Thanks and I will do that. That helps a lot. I was kind of confused for a while. I hope everything went well with that.

I know that if you haven't been married for more than two years you get a conditional residence and then after two years you have to remove conditions but when do the two years start counting? Is it from the day you get approved (which would be at the interview), or is it from the port of entry?

Hi all,

Hope all is going well for everyone.

I tried searching on VJ but didn't find any samples. I was wondering if anyone has any examples of letter they have submitted as to why they haven't filed their taxes. I was a student for the past 4 years and didn't make any money and thus did not file for taxes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks smile.gif

Hi. I was a medical student when I had to fill out my husband's I-864 for him. What I did was just write the letter myself and stated that I was a full time medical student and that I didn't engage in any type of employment in the past 4 years. Then I attached copies of my school records and a letter from the Dean stating that I was currently enrolled in that particular medical school.

Okay, this one has gotten me a bit confused, also.

My fiance' lives in a small village of about 2K{guesstimate}. She spends much of her time in the 'big' city of 125K, which is a 3hr ferry ride away. PLUS, she went to college in Cebu for over 6mos.....SO....

Should she obtain, barangay, village, city, and Cebu clearances...PLUS NBI ? My head is spinning, LOL. wacko.gif

And on that subject, is it possible to co-ordinate everything near the interview?
Can the NBI, CENOMAR, & Passport be obtained quickly there in Manila prior to, or around the medical?

i really don't wanna say what she should and should not get. but its better to be safe than sorry during the interview. the consulates can ask for ANYTHING. so we just have to come prepared. we knew someone at teh NBI so we were able to getour clearance on the same day because my hubby had a hit. apparently someone had the same name as him and was wanted. so we would've waited for like 3 days. but since we were bale to talk to the person we knew there, we only waited 1 hour. The cenmar on the other hand, we just called the NSO hotline at 737-1111 and ordered it delivered diorectly to our house in manila. We paid 430 for each cenmar. Cenmar because we're married. It would be called a CENOMAR if one is single and planning to contract marriage. Try to get the latest one because you never know what documents the CO might ask from you. It took one week and one day for our cenmar to be delivered.

try to give yourself ample time to get the requirements before the interview. good luck!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPhilippines NBI & Police Certificate
my hubby never went out of the Philippines for more than 6 months so he didn't need foreign police certificates. but he has lived in 4 different places since he was born. just to be sure he got police clearances from all those four different places. because we knew someone who never left the philippines and she was asked for a police certificate (one from manila and one from the province where she was from).

When we got the different police clearances some required different requirements than the rest. In manila, they just needed the cedula and payment for the police clearance. here's a tip: they will ask you if you want it "rushed"... because you won't be able to get the police certificate in manila right away. just pay the extra 50 pesos for the "rush". Police clearances for manila are located at UN avenue across from 7-11. Then when we got the other police clearances, my hubby needed a barangay clearance too from where he used to live. Getting police clearances in Quezon can be obtained at QC City Hall. and they'll give it to you right away.

Don't forget to indicate that the purpose is for traveling abroad to the United States.

God bless! Good luck!
