July 23 2005 – Met the love of my life unexpectedly during dinner with common friends
Oct 08 2005 – Officially become a couple
Dec 27 2005 – Surprise engagement party --- I said YES!
Nov 18 2006 – We got married!!!!
Year 2007 – Just traveled and went everywhere together. We never spent one night apart.
Jan 26 2008 – Had a huge church wedding where we renewed our vows.
May 08 2008 – Filed an I-130 through DCF at the USE manila
May 09 2008 – NOA-1
May 12 2008 – RFE for I-130 (needed more evidence of an ongoing marital relationship)
Jul 12 2008 – RFE again for I-130 (This time we were asked to both come down to the embassy and they explained that since we’re a young couple they wanted to see if we were really real.)
July 26 2008 – Handed in additional evidence at USE manila of marriage (Unfortunately, the immigration officer who was handling our case had to leave for Japan for a two months so we had to wait. But she was really helpful.)
Oct 07 2008 – I-130 approved and forwarded to the immigrant visa section USE manila
Oct 23 2008 – Packet 3 received – started fixing all required documents
Oct 29 2008 – Applied for the Cenmar, paid document verification fee
Oct 30 2008 – Sent out packet 3 via DHL
Nov 3 2008 - USE manila approves case to be eligible for interview; interview is scheduled
Nov 06 2008 – First day of medical exam
Nov 07 2008 – Second day of medical exam – PASSED! ? Cenmar was delivered to our house
Nov 24 2008 – Interview at USE manila - VISA APPROVED!!!!!!!
Nov 26 2008 - Visa Received
Dec 04 2008 – Port of Entry – Seattle, Washington

I don't think that you should buy the tickets yet. Even if you have all your papers in order, it really depend on how the interview goes. Sometimes consulates ask for more documentation to be submitted after the interview, so therefore that will put your visa on hold. Just be patient. Buying the plane ticket is the easiest part of all. smile.gif God bless you.

I agree with the above posts. If you are gonna go to Japan to be with your wife, make sure that you don't give up your residence in the USA. Domicile is a requirement for filing the affidavit of support. But you can do Direct Consular Filing in Japan if they allow it. Although with that route, you will have to be a resident of Japan for a certain amount of time. Like for example, I filed DCF in the Philippines but had to have a 6 month residency there to file the petition. Filing for an IR-1 visa is longer than the K-3 route, but you don't have to adjust your wife's status when she gets to the United States and that saves you alot of money. Good luck.

Wow congratulations! I'm am very happy for the both of you. Yeah your wife has to fill out the customs declaration form on the airplane. And there was another form that my hubby had to fill out (a white one). But he only had to give the blue form (customs declaration form).

My husband originally got a CR-1 visa from the US embassy manila. But when he got it in the mail, the visa read IR-1. He's here in the states now and he just go this social security card in the mail a couple of days ago. We're still waiting for the greencard though.

My hubby is on an IR-1 visa and his POE was on December 4, 2008. He got his Social security card on December 15, 2008. And his welcome letter on December 16, 2008. We're just waiting for his green card within the next couple of weeks. Good luck!

My husband finally got all the required documents after his entry. He entered the US in Seattle on December 4, 2008. He got his social security card December 15th and his welcome letter December 18th. Just last Saturday December 27, 2008 he received his 10-year green card came in the mail. Yay! And today he got his Washington State ID. Whew what an experience that was. It was kinda hard because we had to prove that he is a Washington state resident. We didn't have that much to show because he has only been here a couple of weeks. But the lady at the department of licensing was nice and understood the wheel situation and issued him the ID card anyway.

Now, we're just waiting for his selective service card to come in the mail.

He will hopefully start work next month as a software development engineer.
