Yeah sharky! How did it go?

I must admit the day didn't start as I was hoping it to. We were all upstairs waiting to be called and some guy comes out and says there's a problem with the printer and the certificates and we all had to wait another 40 minutes. But once it got going everything went fine and I was out just after 1.20 pm

Went straight to the passport agency and applied for my expedited passport. The woman was really nice and she said I could come and collect it after christmas at the agency, the whole process took 20 mins! Not sure Lili if you were there on a busy day but the woman told me it was a slow day..

still got the social security thing to do, will probably do that after new year...

I just wanted to thank everyone on VJ especially you guys; the July filers. having people to share this whole process is so rewarding. I wish you all a happy christmas and a peaceful new year...

Had my oath at Montebello, CA today. I left a little early because of the 60 freeway shutdown. I got there at 12:30, check in time was 1:10 PM. I was on a wheelchair pretty banged up with the two surgeries that I had on friday and saturday in which I lost a lot of blood. I was the 7th person to go in at 12:50 pm and then pretty much waited an hour and a half for it to be filled up, there were about 950 people in total. At around 2:15PM the ceremony started with the oath followed by a video message from our President and a song, the USCIS district director and the judge congratulated everyone and I was out with the certificate in hand at about 3:15 PM. I quickly scanned a copy of it and applied for passport at the location since there was no one there and I guess I was the first or the second one out of the ceremony and was home by 4:45 PM. and YES!!! I am a US CITIZEN.. More Importantly done with USCIS FOREVER!

By the way, I just had a surgery on the 9th.. After which they sent me home, later in the night.. i started bleeding pretty heavily and had to be brought in again and went into emergency surgery last night.. feeling better today but won't be able to go home until tomorrow. I am still going for the oath on the 15th.. Wish me some strength to go through all this!

wow Shakil, so sorry to hear about that :( Hope you are OK, and of course wishing you a speedy recovery...

also just wanted to say CONGRATS to Boilermaker, 19th? amazing, it seems we both really just scraped through before the holiday

Sharky,

what is your oath date? :)

Sorry guys, was away in Cali for 5 days for some much needed SUN!!! B-)

Anyway got home last night, letter was there. Opening it I felt like I was on the stage at an oscars ceremony with my roommate watching and a drum role going on in my head lol

My Oath date is 22 of December!!!!! :wow: 3 days before Xmas, I didn't know they did oath ceremonies that close to christmas?!!

Anyhow it seems I am a very lucky chap, and if I expedite the passport process I should receive it before Jan 10th, and If not my housemate is flying out to meet me in Hawaii on the 17th and i will definitely get it by then so she is gonna bring it out to me, either way......

PHEWWWW!!!!!! what a relief! :star:

Congratulations Sharky! I filed in November and been following you guys on your progress. I'm concerned that certain elements in my applications will compicate my process, so I've been giving you good vibes hoping that it would help me when my time comes. I'm glad it's all worked out, and hopefully you can get your passport by the time of your trip!

thanks for all the good vibes and wishes guys

I'll let you know what oath date they give me as soon as I get the letter... good luck to everyone still waiting

Ah, I see. Sharky, you need to get your representatives to get things moving. I know you have been wanting to wait a while but you have nothing to lose at this point. I am sure that if you are recommended for approval, you could try to do an infopass and ask for an oath ASAP. One of the person at my ceremony was called the day before by his IO. And 2/3 of the people there were people that had interviewed the morning of.
They definitely would understand the sense of urgency and fit you in.

well today I woke up at 5am (unusual for me) to hear my phone tweet a text, unusual at 5.30. I didn't bother to check it and went bleary eyed to my laptop. When I opened my email I had to look twice:

Your Case Status: Oath Ceremony

On November 29, 2011, we scheduled you for your oath ceremony and sent a notice providing the date, time, and location. If you move prior to the scheduled ceremony, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

it seems that when you finally stop worrying, things happen!!!!

I know that I will receive a letter hopefully in the next day or so telling me the actual DATE of the ceremony, and I can only hope this is still before January 10th.

keep your fingers crossed for me guys!

Thanks Sharky,

Yeah, here the last Oath of the year is on the 16th. I guess judges and USCIS people don't work the day before Christmas or the day before New Year's Eve. So two weeks left for me, I don't see myself getting oath for this coming Friday.

Boilermaker & Lili,

Appreciate the info in the other post I did. Yeah I've been spending this morning coming to terms with the fact that the chances of me getting my oath ceremony before Jan 10th is practically zero now. It's better that I accept this then wake up every morning angry and stressed, especially when I've done everything I can do at this point.

As to your last comment Lili, there is no return for me. Those tickets were one way, and my return to the US is on hold for the foreseeable future, hence the urgency of the whole situation for me. I have to delay everything that I was planning on starting in another country because USCIS couldn't process my application within the appropriate timelines.

If it was anything else I would just forget about it until i got the notice, because there would be no urgency involved.

Understand why I have been so stressed now?

:bonk:

Yeah, I really hope Sharky gets oath soon..

Cardamom, where is your oath? and what time..

Mine is at Montebello at 1:10PM..

by the way guys, I have been traveling out of US after my interview.. any advice for me?

Thanks for the good wishes guys, but don't forget the others waiting who had N400 dates around the same time: Boilermaker and loveforver etc.. I wish the same good luck to those guys. Well it's a Monday after an insanely long weekend when no one in USCIS worked so HOPEFULLY they will get their arses in gear this week and do something about all of us people still waiting.

Cardamom's comment has worried me somewhat though, how did you know it was the last oath ceremony of the year? and it was only December 15th? I'm worrying that even if I was approved tomorrow that the oath ceremony wouldn't even be able to take place in December

Like I need to worry more! I can see me having to pushback three flights out of the country at this rate.....

Thank you! After 9 years 2 months and 10 days, it feels weird to consider myself an American citizen. It hasn't quite sunk in yet. I do feel like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders to not have to deal with USCIS after so many years.

Here is some details about the ceremony. Because soon it will be your turn, Sharky! :)

We arrived half hour early. The security officer told us to skip check in and to go straight upstairs to the waiting area.
As we drew closer to the appointment time, a gentleman (IO, I presumed - he also presided over the ceremony) asked us to make sure we had a blue or white form, he then disappeared. Blue or white form? I was puzzled. Everyone around us seemed to have a blue form so i was a bit worried at that point. I went downstairs and the lady at check in kept saying to check in upstairs. I told her "with whom? There is no officer upstairs". I made my way upstairs and the hubby said that the blue form is for people that had the interview earlier the same day. The white form is just the oath notice letter you get in the mail. Ah, much better. :)
So the family and friends were then instructed to go downstairs to sit down in the auditorium downstairs. When you enter the building, it is the room on the left in the lobby (behind the stairs). After they were done being seated, the gentleman asked us to make two lines and to head downstairs. Right before entering the door, they were checking everybody's name off of a checklist and then the greencards were thown into a bin. They then told everyone their assigned seat numbers. As we entered the auditorium, someone handed us a packet. It contained various information, a letter from Barack Obama, a flag and a passport application form.
There was two representatives from the Seattle Passport Agency. Important fact...in the packet will be a flyer telling you that newly naturalized citizens can apply in person at the Seattle office T-W-Thu from 8 am to noon without making an appointment or having travel arrangements within two weeks (more info below).

The ceremony was nothing earth shattering. I guess that I expected something else. Maybe it is because I expected a grandiose ceremony after so many years lol.
Double, triple check that there is no error on the certificate. As soon as you walk out of the door, you have to file and pay for a replacement.

So as I didn't have work today, I figured that I would go apply at the Seattle Passport Agency. I know I could have applied somewhere else but I wanted it quickly in my hand. I also thought that it may be a more straightforward process to apply at the Agency.
They have a brand new building at 5th Ave and Yessler Way. I went to the sixth floor and took a right. There a security officer asked for an appointment confirmation. This is when I showed him the flyer and he let me through. He also told me that you can't use your cell in the waiting room. I was free to go in the hallway and use it there though.
I then headed to the check in counter. The lady asked for my documents, my appointment letter and travel arrangements confirmation. This is when I showed the flyer once again (see a pattern there? lol). She then emphasized that even though I don't have any travel arrangements, the expedite fee will be charged. I acquiesced and she handed me back my records along with a number.
I went to sat down. I recommend bringing a book. I had nothing and got bored a bit.

When my number was called, I headed to the counter. They kept my certificate and that was it. He said that I should be able to check my application on Monday night. We should see. I just want my certificate back. :P

Are you going to get your legislator involved Sharky?

wow Lili thanks for all the information, it will be very helpful when I (hopefully soon) go to get my oath ceremony. I don't think it's really worth getting legislators involved yet, as it's only been 48 days since my interview. Wow doesn't sound much when I type it but it feels like an eternity lol

Interesting information about the passport agency, so did you expedite the application (pay more for two weeks than four?). At this rate I'll probably be paying the most and getting it on the same day, if that's possible

great to here about your day, did you take a canoe to the field office ? lol this rain is crazy!

Sharky, any good news on INFOPASS? hope you got something better than.... wait 70 more days...

well that was four hours of my life that I'll never get back again..lol

Had the same IO at the infopass meeting as the last one on Nov 1st. At first I didn't really want that, I thought try someone different, may get a different result.. But anyhow she is a really nice lady and was very sympathetic to the delay on my case. Unfortunately she had no new news, still with the officer waiting for a decision etc..

I tried all the questions I could but she just lifted her hand up and said "there's nothing I can do"... then after seeing how distressed I looked she told me to write a simple letter to the deputy director, which I did there and then. Then came back to the counter and handed her the letter, she said she was so sorry for the problems that I was facing and then said she would personally make sure that this letter with accompanying documents would get to the director.

If that helps I have no idea, but she was very nice and I guess there's not much more I can do at this point....

I just wanted to wish Lili "bon chance" for her oath ceremony tomorrow, hopefully the people still waiting with all get there's soon aswell

It's str8 up rediculous that you guys have to wait so long, i think something is wrong... You should call some one or tell them you moved to philly to move ur case there  Joking ...

But i wonder if you can ask them to go to another state to take your oath becuse of your Green card expiring. Try to stress to them more on the GReen card expiring other than the travel plans, cus that seems more serious and they wont want that.

Don't forget to make a trip to the Social Securtiy office too

My GC expires 2018!!! lol The only thing I can try and press them on is that I have flights out of the country booked for Jan 10th and I NEED my US passport before then... not sure if they will care even if I say that but I'm going to be persistent at the infopass appointment on Monday, I am determined to find out some NEW information.

I took my oath today, everything went great. The oath ceremony lasted for about an hour , and at the end we were handed our certificate of naturalization with some additional docuemts including required papers to apply for the passport, a letter form the president of the USA. Right afterwards I went to the post office and applied for my passport. I made my flight arrangements to leave on the 3rd so I'm hoping that my passport gets here by then.

Anna,

Be PERSISTENT, say to the officer "I know you can only tell me what the case updates show", and then say "so i would like to speak to a LEVEL 2 tier officer".... I requested this twice a few days ago and they put you through. If they decline just tell them that you will call back again and again until someone DOES put you through. You are not being rude, you are simply wanting to speak to someone who has more access, and it's your right.

Try again

Hi guys, I had my interview on 09.22.11 in Santa Ana office and I was approved. My online status has not changed since then its still says “application is now scheduled for interview”. I noticed one of the VJ members had an interview a month later then me and he was already scheduled for the oath ceremony. I have a feeling my case has been misplaced or something.

Anna,

I'm in the same situation as you, except with Seattle field office. Another VJer here in Seattle will be having her oath ceremony on the 22nd of Novemeber and she had her interview in Seattle a week after mine. My status shows the same as you "your N400 was scheduled for an interview on....". I would not rely whatsoever on the accuracy of these updates, everyone on visajourney says they are not accurate.

I would, however, share your concern that you have not heard anything since the interview. I would call the 1 800 number and insist to talk to a second level tier officer, as the 1st level people will only tell you what you can see on your updates. Be persistent and tell them you want to speak to the 2nd level and they will put you through, you then may get to know what is happening. If that doesn't work you can always try an infopass appointment but that involves time off work and getting there and back, which can be difficult for some people.

Hope that helps, hang in there... you are not alone with this

Sharky contact your Congressman/woman -- if you have travel plans you can get your oath expedited. Also Congressman/woman can make a request with USCIS to get it scheduled. From my recollection, there is no criteria for expedited oath ceremony [according to the Adjudicator's Manual] -- as long as it is reasonable. Either way, 120 days is the Statutory Law -- whereby if 120 lapse, you can petition the court to grant you Naturalization. Hope this helps!

I hope none of us have go to down that path hgill.... It's been 60 days but at this stage all I can do is wait some more. Also I have my second infopass appointment next Monday and so I really am going to try to INSIST on what is exactly happening when i get there, and if I get no info I'm also going to try to request to speak to the IO who interviewed me... can't hurt hopefully

Yeah I tend to agree what Boilermaker said, the whole security checks after the interview does seem like a strange thing to hear, but then again my "excuse" was "it's still with the officer" lol

Have you considered writing the IO?

OK spoke to a level 2 officer, apparently if you request to do this twice you get put through! I thought it would be much more difficult than that

The IO was very nice but unfortunately he told me that they only rely on computer information, and that my case just read "passed the interview October 6th".... and so Infopass appointment number two at Seattle field office...

I'll make one for next week, and if I don't get any further news from the IO the second level officer on the phone said I could request to ask for the interviewing officer, which I think I may do if I don't get any progress... I could hardly forget that guy's name lol

Honestly, my guess is that the file is sitting there and the most diplomatic answer they can give is 'background check'.

I'm calling the 1 800 number this morning and insisting to ask to a level 2 officer, if they decline I'll just tell them "I'm going to keep calling until you do put me through"...

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionmedical exsam please help!!!
Hi. It depends what the results are from the first day. My husband only needed two days. the first day he spent half the day there. And thank god everything went well and his chest xray was negative for TB. Then he had to go back the next day at 9am to get immunizations. But I've heard of others who had problems with their medical exams (especially TB) and took weeks and even months to complete the medical exams.

My hubby went to saint lukes on a thursday and he said there were still alot of people, contrary to what others say that thursday is the best day to go. He got to saint lukes at 4am and he was already number 12.

Good luck!

Hello;
New to this situation and i am wondering where there are good sources for information pertaining to the Visa Interview Process at the US Embassy / Consulate in Kiev Ukraine. I realize that there are forms and more forms. I also know that once we the NVC has processed the I-129F I have read that I should send a complete copy of the I-129F packet to my Fiancee'. True? Also I-134 Affidavit of support should be sent with all required information for the interview, photos, etc.. But what about this mysterious information packet with 156, 156K, DS-230? and this payment to a local bank ?

Bit confused blink.gif on the Embassy side, I-129F not any problems. Any help or guidance would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks
Dan
Seattle, Washington..

You can download packet 3 from the consulate website. It has all the forms you need. DO NOT wait for the consulate to mail this to your fiancee (unless you just like to wait, and want to delay the process by many weeks)
You do not need form ds-230 for the K-1 visa.

Anything you can do NOW, you should. Send the copy of the I-129f filing to your fiancee now. She probably will not need it, but why not? Download the forms now and get working on them. By the time you receive notice your case has been sent to the embassy, you can call immediately for an interview as you will be far ahead of the game and have everything complete and ready (except medical exam and she can do that the day before the interview) DO NOT wait for the NVC, the consulate or anyone else to do anything which you can do on your own. In Ukraine it is not unusual for the fiancee never to receive packet 3 and there is no reason to wait weeks after the consulate receives it for them to mail the packet, then more weeks while you put together all the documents then more weeks to wait for an interview. Get it all done now. For example, your fiancee can go for a police certifcate today, they are good for one year. She can gather all her documents (birth, marriage, divorce certificates, etc.) and get them to a translator so they are ready...now. If there are children involved, get the "permission" letter from the father and get it translated...now. Get your I-134 ready (you may want to wait until closer to the interview for some of the documents, but you can begin preparing it)

But a key to shaving 6 weeks or so off the process is to continue preparing all the documents you need. Make an extra copy of everything and begin preparing your AOS also. When she arrives you will be ready to send the AOS and need only your marriage license, copy of her I-94, etc. I even got a copy of the I-693 (vaccination supplement in advance when I went for the interview)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionUkraine Consulate Interview Process
Hello;

Thanks
Dan

CO in Kiev didn't ask any question from your list.

Thank You for taking the time out to answer. Just wanted to get a feel for things. Per one post i read the Fiancee was drilled about Ex-Wife of Petitioner. Just Curious.

Thank You
Dan

During the interview process after NOA2 is received, I understand our Fiancee's can undergo questions about us. If a list was complied of questions that our Fiancee's should know about us what would it be? Would it read like this? Or...........? I am sure that there are some "standard" questions asked of our future spouses.

Dan

Some Questions:

Q: Where was your Fiancé born?
Q: Why do you love him?
Q: Why do you want to marry him?
Q; Where does his parents live?
Q: Does he have any brothers or sisters?
Q: Where does his brothers / sisters live?
Q: What food's does your fiancé like?
Q: What food's does your fiancé not like?
Q: What side of the bed does he like to sleep on?
Q: What time does he go to work?
Q: What city does he live in?
Q: What does he do for work?
Q: What company does he work for?
Q: Do you love him?
Q: How did you meet?
Q: When did he come to Kiev/country for first time?
Q: Does your fiancée have any pets?
Q: What size clothes does he wear?
Q: Do you want to learn English?
Q: How often do you talk?
Q: Will you have children with him?
Q: When was the last time you saw him?
Q: What is his email address?
Q: Do you know his phone Number in America?
Q: Was he married before?

Hey guys, last year my salary was $34,900, while this year about $54,000

My fiancee's interview is on September, so, do i need a co-sponsor?

Also, is it enough to send the pay stubs of the last two months till this week to my fiancee (she didn't receive the packet 3 yet but the embassy just shipped it on friday). Since her interview is in the beginning of September, is it a problem that I send the pay stubs worked until July 25, since I will be going to Europe and be with my fiancee until August 12th, while Im traveling, and give to her the pay stubs, but is it a problem to send the pay stubs worked until July 25??

Thank youuuuuuuuu

There is a form I-864P which outlines the poverty Guidelines.. If there are only the two of you, the 125% Poverty Guideline is: $17,500. For Alaska and Hawaii slightly Higher. If there are three of you then: $22,000. We have not received our NOA2 yet and i am sending to her, W2 statements, letter from employer, Last few pay stubs, most recent year of tax return and some bank statments and I am hoping that will be enough.
