So I went to my appointment and talked to the officer at the counter. He was a nice guy, didn't give me hard time. He asked whether the IO game a reason for not having made a decision, to which I said no. After typing something in his computer and staring at the monitor for a while he said.. 'oh i see...your security check is not complete'. After asking further, pretty much the officer said that I'll just have to wait.

I don't think I feel any better....I'd have thought security checks are completed in advance. He said that for N-400 they dig further.

security check? #######? this is insane Boilermaker? Shouldn't all of these checks be made BEFORE you get to the interview stage? AND if this is standard procedure then why are some people allowed same day oath ceremonies?? where are their security checks?

none of this makes sense!!!

So sorry to hear you are still waiting, Sharky. ..everytime I see that you have posted something in the July Filers, I come and look because I am sure that you are posting about your oath appointment. Hang in there..we are all rooting for you (especially us other Seattle folks) :D

Thanks for those best wishes sayswho, I only wish I could be posting about oath ceremonies. I hope that I don't sound too selfish with my posts, I know that there are others waiting that share the same anguish as people like myself and Boilermaker are going through at the moment. And I only wish the best for them too, I guess my anguish is somewhat more heightened because I have flights booked out of the USA early January and I need that passport before then. Believe me if this wasn't the case I would just forget about the whole thing until I got the oath ceremony update. I thought I had plenty of time but the time window is getting shorter every week.

I hear you Boilermaker, these times with Veterans and thanksgiving doesn't sound like the most productive of times for USCIS staff members, it's a concern I share too. We can only hope that we are wrong

This coming Tuesday. It will be 6 weeks after interview.

I'll try to get in contact with the IO.. doubt they will want to see me though.

Let us know what happens with your infopass boilermaker, I do really feel that it's better than calling the 1 800 number but at the same time, I can't help feeling that the people behind the desk aren't telling us everything. I mean all the nice IO did with my case was look on the computer next to her, "with the officer" status hardly seems relevant now? I guess it's a fine line about insisting to know what is happening and (dread to think) pissing them off to the point where they decide to put your file at the bottom of the pile.

At the end of the day, they have the power and we have to just sit here and hope!

For those who have their oath scheduled or completed, how much time did it take from the status being changed from "placed in que for oath scheduling" to "your oath ceremony has been scheduled"

Shakil,

I would go back on the pages for the July filers and look at peoples timelines, or their posts. Either way, it isn't long, for some people it was only days....

I wouldn't worry too much now, you're over the worst part of it

I had an infopass appointment 11 days ago and the IO at the desk told me the case is "still with the officer".... and no more

what that means I have no idea, if I don't hear anything in the next two weeks I'm going to make another infopass and try and find out what the hell is going on.....

I hope it doesn't come to that though

mine too, I just checked their website, although the IO at the infopass meeting said 4 months. The crazy thing is that after all this is over and done with, we STILL will have no clue as to why WE were delayed and others were not...

Hi,

I filed N400 in July and completed my FP on 8/23/11. I am waiting for Interview from Fairfax, VA office. The web site shows lot of backlog in this office. Does anyone can give educated guess when I can expect interview. Thanks

kreddy,

I find going in to previous months posts such as June filers or May etc. and looking for other people from Fairfax may help you when you look at their stats, just a thought.

Boilermaker any news? I'm going bloody insane with waiting hear...... :bonk:

Hey All

Quick update. Yesterday I was put in queue for oath ceremony; and today I got another update that I have been scheduled. I tried to call when the date is, but they wouldn't say and told me to wait for the letter.

I have a good feeling about this week, I think a lot of the people waiting for oath dates will get them.... fingers crossed for everyone!

It is Frustrating to wait and wait as long as you are waiting.
Is there a reason youre trying to get you oath done quickly? like in my case I'm trying to get mine to upgrade my husbands petition.
Did you pass you green card anniversary time also? I know some people have to wait beacuse they have to waith till they reach their anniv. date....

I feel your pain.

I do have a timeline sort of.... I have flights booked out of the country Jan 10th, I foolishly thought that as my N400 interview was on October 6th that would be PLENTY of time, lol  so that's why I'm a little concerned...

My GC anniversary date was Oct 12th so in theory I should be in line to be given an oath, but according to the fantastic USCIS system, my case is currently "with the officer".... ####### that means I have no idea.

Anyhow I feel for others waiting too, I guess it is helpful if all of us still waiting doesn't try to think too much about what is going on, why it is happening etc..

That's easy to say of course but worrying isn't gonna help move it along is it? Boilermaker if you can't come in to make an infopass appointment in person, I would really be adamant on the phone (the 1 800 number) and say specifically you want to talk to a level 2 officer. They will be reluctant to pass it on but they have to if you are persistent...

sending good vibes to everyone still waiting.... lol

:P

After the test the IO told me my oath will be in 3-4 weeks. 2 weeks after the test i got the letter and the oath was exactly 4 weeks after the test and interview date. but philly seems to be moving at a steady speed. But as for me i had to reschedule grrrrr.

hey at lest you got the oath letter! or an update, my test was on Oct 6th and apparently my case is "still with the officer", it's just stupid.... the whole process...

sorry guys, just having a bad day and wishing my oath would be scheduled soon....

maybe I should go and send my N400 IO chocolates to help him speed this along??

I'm in the same boat as you Cardamom. I was issued a N-652 with approved on it. But my case status update is still in the interview stage. I was going to message you to see if you got any updates on it. Would love for anyone to shed some light here :)

Also Cardamom did they make you sign your photographs? I never did.

hgill & cardomon,

I would suggest going back a few pages on this thread to find out those details. I really wouldn't worry too much on the online updates saying interview stage, mine still says scheduled for interview and I had my N400 interview on October 6th.... It's not that accurate to be honest.

Hgill, don't want you to worry but I thought the signatures on the pics was mandatory, strange they didn't request that! Still you got the approved stamp which was more than I got. I think as far as timelines after the N400 interview to oath ceremony, obviously dates vary but you're probably looking at around a 4-6 weeks, if you're lucky sooner, if you're not LATER lol

difficult to say, you just gotta wait... that's the hardest part

True, my IO desk was very clean too. Well, I've been told by a person who used to work many years ago at INS (at the time), that each IO has a team of people that review the cases and do the w/e work they are asked to. Actually this person was one of them. My guess is that those people might the ones without a room to stretch their legs....

... btw, how is Seattle this time of the year? would like to visit there sometime.

It's getting cold, but the winters can be harsh, not blue skies and cold but wet and grey... I'm heading to warmer climates come January

Will you be sending a letter to your IO? I haven't received any response. I sent a letter a few days ago, hopefully that will help and yesterday I set up an Infopass appointment two in two weeks... that would make it about 6 weeks after interview. I'm crossing my fingers to get some news before.

Boilermaker,

she told me to write one out at the desk, so i did and she told me to include my cell number and sign it etc. I don't think the IO will actually call me, but I'm just hoping he "pushes" it along to the next step. No idea why it would be "sitting with the IO", I imagine if he did this on all the N400 that are interviewed you wouldn't even be able to get in to his office, and it looked pretty clean to me...

I'm sure we'll be hearing something soon

Sharky, I am glad that you had positive results with your infopass. Did you ask what may be a reason why it is seating with the io? I am sure you will be doing your oath before next year.

Lili,

I did ask but she said she didn't know... but she also seemed to indicate that this timeline wasn't unusual

easy for her to say :P

well I had my infopass meeting at Seattle field office, and the final outcome is that maybe it helped?! although I can't be sure. The IO I spoke to was very nice. I explained my situation and she kind of laughed when I said my interview was on October 6th, she said "only 3 weeks ago?". Anyway I explained that I knew of others in the same field office who had their oath letters already etc., and she basically pushed a few buttons and concluded to me "it's still with the officer".... I couldn't say much to that, but it's more than what I would have got on a 1-800 number. Anyway she suggested that I quickly write a letter there and then to my N400 IO explaining I had came down and had concerns that something was wrong and she said she would make sure that it would go in the file. If that means someone has to pull my file out and deal or push it ahead then fine. Finally after I told her that this field office was very quick, she counteracted with "the N400 process is 4 months give or take"...

So my 4 months is Nov 16th so fingers crossed I'll hear something in the next few weeks. Boilermaker if it means taking valuable time off work I wouldn't make an infopass TBH, I'm sure we'll both hear something in the next two weeks, given the timelines she told me.

no news Boilermaker, and I'm not expecting any TBH, not before my infopass on Tuesday anyhow. I'm reading a lot of posts on here about people getting oath ceremony dates 4-6 weeks after their interview. Well my interview was 3 weeks yesterday so maybe I am getting over concerned about nothing? Still Lili got hers and she's the closest member I can relate to, being from the same field office, so that just brings the worries back.

I guess I'll just try and forget it for the moment, lol like that's easy eh?

You almost at the end of the tunnel....Congrats!

that whole experience sounds a lot like another post on the forum:

http://www.visajourn...lp/page__st__15

seriously who would have thought that the N400 interview and the final processing stages could be so prone to complete f#ckups by USCIS? Files that have gone missing, put aside, delayed, half of a file in a service center while the other half is in the field office, issuing RFE's and then saying they received the information when the applicant didn't even send stuff in! and finally an online system that is notoriously inaccurate lol...

going through the US visa process is akin to walking through a minefield

We got the oath letter today-that was crazy fast with the update just yesterday afternoon! Its for November 18th, if somebody wouldn't mind updating us please. We also got in the mail another letter today stating that on Oct 24th we contacted them about our case and updating our status...so now Im absolutely sure that since they had to get into our case for that it prompted them to push it on.

well those are re-assuring words Aminesbaby but I'm still skeptical that updating an address or a phone call (you called the 1 800 number to ask about what was happening?) actually meant that they theoretically "picked your case from the pile" and "pushed" it forward. Believe me though I want to believe that...

all I did was talk to a customer service rep which was similar to calling a Dell computer customer service line: absolutely useless and I doubt very much that it has an effect on my case sitting in Seattle field office.

Lili, my infopass is scheduled for next Tuesday. Maybe it won't come to that, but your news has made me feel sick to my stomach now. Please don't take that the wrong way, just you were the only other Seattle field office person that I could relate to, and let's face it at this stage it's all down to each field office and how quickly they process cases..

All I can do is keep waiting, my "time window" is getting narrower by the day as is my patience lol

wise words indeed from Aminesbaby,

I heard that's one of the reasons. During my interview I was asked a lot of questions about current relationship, I could not remember some of details about it. So my guess is that they are digging my background or something. How long has it been since your interview?

3 weeks tomorrow Boilermaker. This poster was ADAMANT in his view and said that is what happens when you get processed TOO quickly

I really find it hard to believe that they would go back in to digging through details at the very END of the whole process, if they had something to question they should have done it before now, surely?

I need to ask the July filers a question about their N400 interviews..... did ANYONE have their N400 interview before their anniversary date (3 or 5yr) and have already had an oath ceremony scheduled or taken?

I had some advice on a different post from a well knowledged poster that THIS is the reason for some filers having delays between interview times and oath date updates and ceremonies...

wow look at those stats! The poor people from the Texas lockbox haven't even got interview letters yet (except the lucky few) and I count eight members from the Phoenix lockbox who have already had their N400 interview and have not received an oath date yet...

I guess it's easy to read things into this but it does seem a bit weird doesn't it?

well I scheduled an infopass appointment for next week, I'd rather know what's happening than just blindly waiting!

I just hope I found out something from that

I completely agree

did you make that infopass appointment Aminesbaby?, I'm thinking I may and try and schedule one as well and take the N-652 form along. I think Boilermaker has a point with regards to writing personally to the IO who interviewed you but I think perhaps this may be a more direct approach?

I'm hearing good info from posters in other groups that had results from infopass interviews, so why not try?

You could try an infopass. Explain to them that you haven't heard anything and would like an update. If you can afford to take some time off from work, go for it.

I am considering doing the same thing but I am trying to hold off until November. Patience is just not my forte. :bonk:

yeah and getting time off work wouldn't be a problem, but i just think I'm gonna hear the same thing that a customer service rep told me a few days ago: "you have 90 days to wait etc etc.", I really don't think I would get any information that would make a difference, although I'd LOVE to be proven wrong. I TOO just want to have that US passport in my hands, this should have been the easy part

:(

Hi sharky, I am getting a little disappointed in us not having received the oath letters yet. Everyone else in the forum is getting oath letters left and right. Sigh. I just want yo be done.

I know Lili, me too! but what can we do? that's what Aminesbaby was saying, it's the not knowing part and wondering if your case is just sitting on a desk somewhere. God I thought, after going through 5 years of this, that I wouldn't feel like this AFTER the N400 interview..

Patient yes that is quick but USCIS timelines and processing have no "rhyme or reason" so based on that I would never have a flight so close to an interview date. I'm thinking of maybe trying what Boilermaker is thinking about and writing a quick letter to the IO at Seattle USCIS, what other options are there?

My interview was on the 13th of october. passed the interview and wayyyy pass my 5ys green card holing time.

DID NE 1 RECEIVE THEIR OATH LETTER who did their test & interview arround this time?????????

I leave the country in 3 weeks and unfortunatly my passport expires right b4 my trip. Was hoping to get the oath to get a passport. ahhhhhhhhhhhh i feel to smack myself!!!!!!!!! :bonk:

Can i probably take the oath in a next state?
doesn't ne one know???????

man i really screwed myself up here.

Sugarz,

That's WAY too close to have a flight booked. I fly out in January and I'm beginning to worry that I won't have my passport by THEN, so to have a flight booked 3 weeks after your interview and think you can have the oath and passport is really asking too much i would say. Not sure about getting oaths in other states, maybe someone else can help you with that.

So have you gotten anything that actually said you were approved yet? Like we'd be ok waiting forever for the oath ceremony (because that's the normal for the KC office anyway), but waiting around for just the approval is driving me crazy!

Aminesbaby,

When you got given the form at the end of the N400 interview, what box was ticked? and did the IO write any comments on it?

He wrote "for further review" on mine, what the hell that means I have no idea, at the time I thought that was standard meaning it was gonna be checked over by a supervisor and approved but now I wonder?

Do you guys have a box checked.....'to contact about application, contact officer (last name)" in the Interview Results document? ...... I was also given the "can't make decision at this point". I guess that since i have that box checked, I could just mail questions to IO. It doesn't specify anything regarding what can/cannot be asked.

not sure Boilermaker, I'll check on that form when I get home from work later

strangely enough that hasn't bothered me lol! I was given the form that had the box ticked "for further review", but I passed the test and everything else was fine so I just guessed the IO ticked that box because my anniversary was the week after... HOWEVER I have read some applicants be in the same position and have the "congrats, we are recommending you for approval"!

and so I refer back to the original statement "USCIS makes no sense"!
