US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWaiting for passport in the mail...
As is so happens, the embassy FORGOT to charge him the mailing fee, and they say he needs to pay it at a Banco Cuscatlan. So he went, but the bank near his home told him that he couldn't pay there. So he went the 3 hours all the way to the embassy to see if he couuld pay there (where he originally was supposed to pay), and they wouldn't let him in!!! They told him to call the embassy phone number (which is actually a call center in Mexico...).

So I called the mail courier people from the USA and they said to go pay at a Banco Cuscatlan, I told them they wouldn't let us, they said try another branch of the bank. So my husband went to another bank, and IMAGINE THAT, they let him pay. After 6 long hours of bus travel all for nothing! He should have been able to pay at the first bank!!

Now I wonder if this will slow down our getting-the-passport-back...

Tara

ps/ thanks!

First congratulations for the successful interview  second, but not in this order, Happy Birthday to you!. If he didn't pay for the delivery probably his passport with the visa is at the Embassy, tell him to call the embassy and maybe it is possible for him to pick it up.
All the best to you two,
Adriana

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWaiting for passport in the mail...
My husband just had his CR1 interview at the San Salvador embassy. I called him and he said, "They just told me then the interview was over and to wait for my passport in the mail". I wanted to strangle him and ask, "Didn't they tell you if you got it?" But they didn't say, aparently. I emailed the embassy and they say the passport should come in the mail by the end of next week if they approve his CR1, and that my husband was supposed to have paid the Cargo Expreso mail service $12 at the time of his interview. My husband says that he saw everyone else with little red pieces of paper that they were taking to a window and paying, but that they didn't give him one! Do you think they forgot to charge us for the mail service? If so, this will probably just prolong everything, yet again...

Anybody had any luck getting their passport back quickly from the San Salvador embassy???

We've made it so far, but yet it still seems so far away...

Tara

I think my huband got there at 7am as instructed and was finally done around 1pm! even though our interview "time" was "7:30am".

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDelay after interview..two weeks now...San Salvador
My husband had his interview (San Salvador) exactly two weeks ago for his CR1, they said we would have gotten the passport back in the mail within 10 days. Now I emailed them and they're saying:

"We have reviewed your husband's case and noticed that his case is
undergoing administrative process at this time. As soon as this
process is complete, we will adjudicate and approve his visa."

What does this mean? Why is it that at other embassy's they approve the visa right there at the interview and you get your passport the same day and in El Salvador they're taking forever???

We were very anxious to get his passport pack so he could travel, and now they've already taken two weeks, and haven't even approved it yet!

What going on here???

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCR1 priority dates
The current priority date for CR1 spouse is 22 March 2002, but is that really true? What does it really mean? I know of 3 couples who filed after that date and have already gotten their spouses to the states. I filed in May 2006, but do I have to wait still for the priority date to reach my filed date before the embassy who has our file will give us an interview? I don't understand...

please explain

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVaccines: mumps
My husband got vaccinated against the mumps about 18 days ago (at the embassy approved doctor, San Salvador), and now he has been diagnosed with the Mumps! Did he get the mumps from the vaccine? Will this affect the embassy's decision to give him his residency when he goes to his interview in 3 weeks?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIR1- & tourist visa questions
I just translated the documents myself (such as birth certificate and marriage certificate from El Salvador). Then at the bottom of my typed translation, I added a line saying, "I, NAME, certify that I am able and competent to translate the above documents to the English language" or something of the sort. They accepted it. Staple it to an original copy in the original language.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAfter entering the states with CR-1...
We waited about 5 weeks for the SSN, and then I headed down to the Social Security office. They told me that immigration had never sent them the forms for the issuance of a new SSN, so they processed it right then and there. I went back the following day and they were able to tell me my husband's SSN, and within a week we had the official card in the mail.

They said that I should have only waited 3 weeks since entering the USA before contacting the Social Security office.

Also we got the green card in the mail without trouble, about 4 weeks after arrival to the USA.

We also received about 4 "welcome to the USA" letters with the exact same information, just a different mailed date.

What's that all about?

Anyway we're here and my husband is registered to start ESL and has just gotten a job! yea!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAfter entering the states with CR-1...
We finally made it to the states, my husband on a CR-1.

1.) We checked the Social Security box on that one form, so will they send it to us automatically? How long should we wait before contacting SSN?

2.) Can Conditional Residents leave the country during their 2 years? I have friends that had to wait until the husband was a Permanent resident before leaving, but when my husband passed through immigration they said he could come and go as if he were a permanent resident. What is the truth?

3.) Will we get a green card in the mail? If it doesn't come, how do we go about getting one?

4.) In my husband's passport the entry stamp is between two pages and didn't stamp well. For my insurance company I need to prove my husband didn't pay taxes (and showing his entry date proves he wasn't here last year). I sent them a copy of the visa/stamp and they said they wouldn't take it because it's not clear. They want me to get a formal letter saying his entry date from immigration. How do I do this? It is even possible?

Thanks for all the help, and good luck to you all!
