I have the DS230 ready to go and if a new version is available on March 1st I will complete it and have it ready. I am just surprised that they have 2 different variations of a document that was revised Oct 2011. Not only that. One of the versions has a link to the old DAS site for the "pasado judicial" and the other has a link to the new national police website. Thank God that we have this site to share information. But I had downloaded the Packet 3 & 4 October revision in the last 3 weeks and the DS 230 was not mentioned. However in the pdf emailed by the embassy it states: SECOND: Fill-out the DS-156, DS-156K, and DS-230 (Part 1) visa applications. <-- This also purports to be part of the Oct 2011 Revised packet 3 & 4. And to add to the confusion when I go to the link the DS230 form expires February 29. 2012... The appointment is on March 13th. Anyone care to shed some light on this? Mexico, Latin & South America	visa fiance	Estoy en busca de ayuda .. tengo un novio Americano, vivimos juntos por 1 año en Colombia.. hace 2 meses se fue a USA por trabajo pero queremos estar juntos.. cual seria el proceso mas rápido... tengo varias ideas .. como pedir una visa normal como turista argumentando ir a visitarle.. llevando como evidencia que el es quien me soportara financieramente, aparte de eso tengo una hija en Colombia (el no es su papa) y también tengo un contrato de trabajo con una entidad en Colombia, aparte de eso tengo una empresa en donde soy la representante legal, una carta de invitación de mi novio y todos sus soportes financieros (contrato de trabajo y demás en USA).. es posible que me aprueben una visa con todos estos soportes?? que otro tipo de soportes puedo llevar? Otra idea es solicitar la visa K1 como Fiance .. pero esta según he encontrado en estos foros .. se demoraría 6 meses.. para que podamos estar juntos.. y pues tengo las mismas evidencias anteriormente descritas, también fotos de todos nuestros viajes y convivencia el año anterior en Colombia. Otra idea es que el viene y nos casamos cual seria la visa mas apropiada y rápida para poder viajar a USA en el menor tiempo posible? Diana, Yo te aconsejo so realmente quieres una relacion a largo plazo con tu novio de no pedir una visa de turista con el proposito de visitarlo. Lo mas recomendable seria la K1 y aunque tarda es el proceso correcto y la manera mas segura de evitarte problemas. Te deseo mucha suerte en este proceso ya que qui tienes todos los recursos para hacer tu sueno una realidad. My boyfriend and I have never actually spent any physical time together, but we talk for hours each day, text, and Skype, etc. How likely are we to receive any type of visa? Can anyone please offer some suggestions. Love is very important but I am a single mother with a very demanding job, I won't be able to travel to see him until at least September. Before attending the medical exam do we need to print out any forms to sign before going to the exam or do they give out forms there? If we need forms what forms are they? You need to have valid form of ID, passport, and current record of vaccines. If lab work is required before hand make sure you complete it prior to the medical appt. For delivery in Bogotá, it should take between 2-3 business days, if it's been more than a week he needs to start making some calls to find out what is going on. Diana Diana, That may have happened in the past but being "on the field" right now I can tell you that the 2 to 3 day wait is not happening.... My fiancee was told that it would take 2 weeks to print and deliver the VISA in Bogota... I think it's a standard reply but it may be to cover their butts in case there are internal delays. Mexico, Latin & South America	VSC - What happened?	Saw many happy folks getting their NOA2 in less than 5 months. I was hoping for that too. Today is 5 months since my NOA1, though their website estimate is 5 months, I am still waiting. I called today USCIS, talked with customer support, then was transfered to an agent. I was told by the agent that they were currently working on my petition and should see something within two weeks or a month. The process is not perfect but it works. Processing and approvals ebb and flow... depending on many factors such as number of applications, types, and the time of year. Mexico, Latin & South America	Currency Exchange/transfers	I have been on a hunt to find the best/ lowest cost way to exhange money and/or send money to Colombia. Typically, when in Colombia, I would use the local CitiBank ATM's, but they hit you with transaction fees for the exchange, and both CitiBank and your bank will hit you two more times for more fees. Since I needed more cash on my last trip for her interview, I wanted to try another way to avoid or minimize those fees, so I went to one of those airport counters in the US that does currency exchanges. I asked if there was a commission, and they said no, but to my surprise, when they made the exchange, they took like 200 pesos per dollar, which of course they don't call a fee!! This ended up being even more than what I would have paid the banks at the ATM, so don't use those airport exchange counters if you can avoid them. I recalled that Capital One Visa cards have no fee for purchases overseas, and I remember them sending me a flyer stating they now have Capital One Bank, so I called and asked them what their fee structure was for overseas withdraw at ATMs on one of their accounts, and they said they charge no fees, and even better, they will reimburse your account up to $25.00/mth for any transaction fees charged by the bank that owns the ATM!!! I'm going to open an account with them and see if this is really the case, but wanted to see if anyone out there has had any experience with them. What I will probably end of up doing if Capital One works out, is leaving my debit card with Clau's Mom so Clau can send her money from time to time. She can't have a debit card with her own name because she does not have a social security number. The only rub is that I have to call Capital One's fraud department to let them know I will be using the card and they can allow these withdraws for up to one year, then you have to call again once a year to alert them the card is being used outside the US. Let me know if there is a better deal than above as I am open to suggestions!! Jon & Clau I don't know what your background is but if you have prior military service in the US or have a relative with prior military service in the US, you may be able to open a USAA bank account. Info at www.usaa.com They offer the lowest exhange rate transactions and there are no fees for using any ATM anywhere in the world. The reimburse local ATM fees as well. The other option is to send money via xoom.com It costs 4.99 per transaction and the money can go directly to the person's Bancolombia account. I talk with him and he tells me to wait for the letter from Juarez and then my fiancee can begin filling it out.He doesnt seem to interested in finding out for me what my case status is. There is alot of good info here but it is overwhelming.I have my emails my emloyment letter my tax returns and I visited her 3 times and I have all my receipts and boarding passes. Jay Kay stated that the letter sometimes doesnt make it to its destination in Juarez but will they send me or the lawyer a notice? thanks so much Call USCIS and find your own case status... I agree with the other poster ---you do not need a lawyer... big waste of money unless you have red flags and even then.... Mexico, Latin & South America	Crossing the border from Juarez to El Paso	Hi. My fiance and I have our interview for a K-1 visa coming up shortly. I am trying to figure out what a SAFE option is and also cost effective. If we fly back to the states from Juarez we are looking at paying $1000 each for our flight and spending about 17 hours in the airport with several layovers. If we fly from El Paso, Texas our flights are only $200 and consist of no layovers, and only 5 hours in the airport. My question is whether crossing the border is safe in Juarez. Wikapedia (not the most reliable site I know), says that Juarez is one of the most dangerous cities in the world. I have heard it is because the town has a lot of cartel trying to get people crossing to smuggle drugs across the border. We have also heard horror stories about the border control being corrupt and asking for money in exchange for allowing us to cross. I want the safest option first and foremost. If we are planning to cross the border in early morning, around 7:30-8am, do you think we will be safe? I am not one to believe all the stories I hear about security in Mexico because I know alot of the stories may be exaggerated or a basic miscommunication and language barrier. My fiance will be with me and speaks fluent english and spanish. Basicalllllllly, is the border between Juarez and El Paso safe for us to attempt to cross? You will be fine. Just use common sense. Mexico, Latin & South America	Divorce Certificate - Chile	I just received a checklist from the NVC stating that I did not include a proper divorce certificate to show the termination of my wife's previous marriage. I provided the Certificado de Matrimonio with the Divorcio addendum. I had previously comfirmed with the IV Unit in the Santiago Embassy that this was indeed the proper document for a divorce certificate in Chile. I have already submitted a request to have the document reviewed by a supervisor, but in the meantime I thought I would post here to see if there are any other members who had to submit a divorce decree from Chile. If so, what did you submit? My wife has been to the registro civil on 3 separate occasions and each time they insist that the marriage certificate with the divorce addendum serves as the official divorce certificate and that there is no other certificate that they can issue. Thanks in advance. I'll give my opinion though I know nothing of Chile's laws and someone with specific knowledge in this are will be much better qualified to answer this. That being said I will say that an addendum of divorce on a marriage certificate does not constitute a Judgement of Divorce that would be recognized by a US Court or USCIS. My experience on advice from consulates and embassies is that sometimes that advise is not correct as the workers there are not US embassy officials but rather workers who are citizens of the host nation and who are not knowledgeable in all area of immigration law. Mexico, Latin & South America	Colombian Birth Certificate	We are trying to get everything together for our K1 interview in Bogota, apparently in Colombia when you are born you register at a "notario" and that is where you would go if you needed a copy of your birth certificate. I don't know if anyone has run into this before, but what can you do if noone knows which notario you were registered at when you were born. This is the case with my fiance. It would not be a problem in a small village with one notario but in Bogota (9 million people) there are hundreds of notarios. Has anyone had to go through this? Is there some central registration? Oh and her dad can't remember where she was baptized either. Any help would be appreciated Try the hospital where she was born. They would be able to give her the information. Mexico, Latin & South America	Vaccines in Colombia: K1-visa	Hello Alex, The most inexpensive way to meet the vaccination requirement is to have the required shots before the medical appointment. our fiancee can get them at a health department and she has to make sure she takes her Carnet de Vacunas when she goes to her medical appointment. Try to find the vaccine record. Dr. Dennis is by far the best doctor...very ethical and professional. But don't take my word for it search the forum. I accompanied my fiancee to the medical and he was an excellent doctor. As far as the email situation call the NVC and send an email to the embassy. The embassy responds within 48 hours. Also, as I have advised to others before if you don't foresee any probs with NVC go ahead and schedule your interview if you want a relatively fast interview. The interview fee dropped (yes, dropped) right after we had our interview so the $240 fee is correct. Good Luck! Art Hello. I have been lurking the forums for a while now and now have a question which my lurking has not provided with an answer. Our K1-visa left the NVC yesterday and is on its way to Bogota. My fiancee and I are wondering what the vaccination process is and how to make it as inexpensive as possible. From the doctors listed on the packet 3/4, Roa, Dennis, and Caicedo, which is the most trustworthy and least likely to scam. From what I have gathered on the forums, it seems Dr. Roa is the most likely to scam, forcing the beneficiary's to have MMR, Varicella, HPV, and Tdap taken at the exam regardless of if the beneficiary had the vaccine already. The one post I found pertaining to Dr. Dennis just referred to one vaccine. I have not seen anything on Dr. Caicedo. So my question is, to those in similar situations, which doctor did your fiance(e) have their medical with and what was their experience overall with the doctor? Would it be a waste of time (and money) if we go to the Red Cross and have the vaccines listed above taken there? Another dilemma we face is that her vaccine records are lost. As we are in Bogota, her mother will attempt to recover her vaccine records in Barranquilla on Monday, given that tomorrow is a holiday in Colombia. Any other advice on similar matters is welcomed. -Edit: Another issue: Today I called the NVC and they gave me the BGT# and told me the petition was sent yesterday. However, they had my email incorrect and did not have my fiancee's email on record, although I had listed both when I sent the I-129F. Should I contact the U.S. Consulate and verify the details on Monday? Or will the NVC take care of this issue? Also, the visa fee, is it $240 or $404? On this website I have seen that the fee is $240 for the K visas, however the package 3/4 on the consulate's webpage says $404. Hi Mariana, I can tell you from personal experience that you can file for an interview prior to receiving your packet 3. At least it worked for Colombia. So my advice is that before you schedule an appointment wait to hear from somebody that has filed in the same embassy as you. As this "short cut" tend to vary from country to country. Some civil surgeons will not let you schedule the medical until you have an interview. So hopefully someone with experience in Mexico wil respond to your message. Mucha Suerte! Mexico, Latin & South America	COLOMBIANOS CON VISA K1 (CONTINUACION 5)	Mi prometida vive en un lugar de Bogota donde es dificil que encuentren la direccion y queria saber si se puede sacar un buson para cuando la embajada envie los traimites sea seguro que le llegue. Esto es para la Visa "K1". Todavia no he enviado la peticion (desde EEUU) pero queremos resolver esto con tiempo. Gracias! Bueno esto es facil. No hay necesidad de sacar un buzon de correo. La embajada entregara el pasaporte, visa y otros documentos por medio de DHL a una de sus sucursales en Bogota si asi lo solicitan. Pueden pedir que los documentos se entreguen a la puerta de su domicilio pero esto causa una pequena demora y a lo mejor en su caso la demora puede que sea mayor. Mexico, Latin & South America	COLOMBIANOS CON VISA K1 (CONTINUACION 5)	haaaaaaaaaa se me ha olvidado algo y por quiero que no me tomen como intensita jajajjja....es comprensible esta ansiedad y esta espera ...........en el foro aparecen todas las visas y todos los relatos aprobados ........y a las que tristemente no les salen las cosas bien seria bueno saberlo tambien ya que podriamos mirar en que cosas estamos fallando al momento de la entrevista y eso de verdad nos ayudaria en este proceso ...gracias por la paciencia y que dios me los bendiga a todos... Mira que casi todas las visas que llegan al pinto de entrevista son aprobadas. Muchas peticiones se detienen por falta de evidencia, documentos errados, investigaciones extensas etc. Pero las peticiones K1, I130,, K2 de este foro que son aprobadas y que llegan a al embajada en BOGOTA (enfasis aqui porque otras embajadas niegan muchas visas) son en su mayor parte aprobadas. Las razones por esto son simples. Aqui en Visa Journey hay muy buena informacion y consejos. Si sigues los pasos como debe ser y los consejos de los que ya han pasado por este proceso lo mas probable es que tengas exito. Pero esto no quiere decir que no va ha haber contratiempos y demoras. En mi caso yo esoty seguro de que si no hubiera acudido a la cita en la embajada con mi esposa que la K1 se le hubiera negado. Todo depende de tus circunstancias personales, del consul que haga la entrevista y de la posicion de los astros en ese dia. Mexico, Latin & South America	COLOMBIANOS CON VISA K1 (CONTINUACION 5)	Hola a todos y todas voy a relatar mi experiencia durante la cita médica y la cita en la embajada ya que aquí en el foro leí muchas preguntas que me fueron de gran ayuda. Mi cita medica fue el viernes 23 de marzo, ese día en la mañana madrugue a hacerme los exámenes de laboratorio, los cuales son sencillos en cuestión de una hora ya estaba todo listo. En la tarde de ese mismo día tenia la cita con el doctor Jairo Roa, en esta cita si hay que ser muy pacientes porque atiende a demasiadas personas :s recomiendo que lo mejor es que se apliquen vacunas 2 semanas antes de la cita médica para que no les toque pagar allá por esas vacunas tan caras, las cuales en cualquier IPS las ponen gratis o son de un costo mas bajo, recomiendo vacuna para tetano, hepatitis B, triple viral e influenza). En mi caso la única que me faltaba era la de influenza, que se me paso por alto. pero conversando con las personas que estaban esperando tenían casi toda la tabla de vacunas para aplicarse y sumaba como unos 250 mil pesos. Al Martes 27 de marzo era mi cita a las 7:30 am, yo llegue a las 6:30 am, la fila para visa k1 era en la número 3, luego te hacen ingresar y debes dejar el celular en la portería de la embajada, te dan un ficho para que a la salida lo reclames, luego una chica me dio una planilla para que colocara los documentos en un orden que no recuerdo pero es sencillo. importante lleven la hoja de confirmación de la cita Luego de organizar los documentos te formas en una de las taquillas verdes y esperas tu turno, ahí empiezan a atender a las 7, yo estaba de segunda asi que me atendieron rápido, en esa taquilla me pidieron la hoja de confirmación de la cita y los documentos en orden según esa tabla; luego me preguntaron algunos datos de mi prometido como su número de teléfono y su nombre completo, me regresaron algunas cosas que el había enviado cuando inicio el proceso como fotos y evidencia de nuestra relación y otros documentos. Luego me pidió que me sentara en frente de la cafetería y que ahí esperara a que me llamaran para la entrevista con el cónsul. Al llamar lo hacen por altavoces, mencionan tu nombre completo y a la taquilla a la que te debes dirigir, en mi caso fue la taquilla 5 (verde), era una mujer la que me entrevisto, me saludo cordialmente, me pidió las huellas dactilares y luego me comenzó a preguntar: ¿como conocí a mi novio? ¿cuales eran los hobbies de el y que hacia en su tiempo libre? ¿donde trabaja el? ¿con quien vive el? ¿cuantos hermanos tenia? ¿como el se hizo ciudadano de los EUA? ¿cuando fue la última vez que lo vi? Mientras me preguntaba miraba la evidencia de nuestra relación, las fotos de todos nuestros viajes, las cuales estaban marcadas con fecha y lugar; también le mostré evidencia de las llamadas telefónicas (las que creo que ayudaron mucho pues mostraban que nos comunicábamos desde el 2009) y las fotocopias de nuestro últimos boletos de avión, un viaje que realizamos juntos y que fue donde por ultima vez nos vimos. Ella era muy seria mientras estaba preguntando, y me hizo una pregunta final: ¿como el me propuso matrimonio? al responder me sonrió y me dijo: su visa ha sido APROBADA. Yo temblaba y con una sonrisota de oreja a oreja, le agradecí y me fui feliz a llamar a mi novio para darle la buena noticia. Ahora estoy esperando a que llegue la visa al DHL de Medellín pero entro a la pagina y no me sale ningún numero de rastreo :s. No se si alguien sabe mas o menos cuanto se demora la documentación, porque estoy ansiosa en viajar y ver a mi amorcito. Gracias por compartir.., La entrega por DHL demora como una semana. DHL recoge los documentos de la embajada cuando ya tienen bastantes visas. Revisa la pagina de web despues de las 3 pm que es cuando recogen... y tamben te mandaran un correo electronico. En mi caso la visa la recogio DHL un viernes por la tarde y la entregaron al dia siguiente antes de la una. Pero claro esto es en Bogota. Fueron cuatro dias des pues de la entrevista. El motivo que les escribo es para preguntarles si alguno de ustedes saben si existe un foro para tod@s aquell@s que ya se encuentran en Estados Unidos con una visa K1 y K2 y que estan en el proceso de ajuste de status para obtener la residencia o si algun@s de ustedes saben cuales son las formas que hay que llenar, cuanto hay que pagar a Migracion y a donde se tienen que enviar. Mexico, Latin & South America	COLOMBIANOS CON VISA K1 (CONTINUACION 5)	hola mi prometido envio los papeles el 9 de diciembre tiene un numero que comienza por letras wac y numeros no se que significa eso a mi aun no me llega nada que susto gracias kien me pueda animar con todo esto Dios los bendiga Ese numero es el numero de recibo de la peticion K1 o sea que ya recibio la NOA1 estas esperando el NOA2 que es la aceptacion/aprobacion de la peticion de fiance y eso tarde de unos cuantos meses a 6 meses pero en general la mayoria son aceptadas entre 4 y 5 meses. Con el numero de WAC tu y tu novio pueden revisar en el sitio de web de USCIS si algo ha transcurrido con la peticion pero en general es cuestion de esperar y esperar y uno de estos dias a tu novio le llegara un correo electronico, o un mensaje de texto o una carta con el NOA2.	andrea y arturo	Male	Colombia	2012-03-25 01:18:00
