BTW... ESTA will begin in January of next year (it's voluntary now) so, if you are approved beforehand, I would think that should help ease concerns about being denied entry. wink.gif

Hi All

Yes I remembered getting a leaflet on my way back home last time. I've saved the site to my favourites already lol. I'm a great "forward planner". I'm not sure if my planned visit will be January or February now - there might be issues getting time off from my new job, but as soon as I know I'm going for sure, I'll check the website BEFORE buying my ticket.

Thanks for your support everyone ... it has been and always will be, much appreciated!

QUOTE (Nich-Nick @ Oct 26 2008, 02:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
What I always do for a question like this is call up the agency. I've called CBP 3 times at least. Here's the general number:
Customs and Border Protection
(703) 526-4200 or 1-877-CBP-5511
Press 0

All of them have been nice to me. I called that general number to ask about travelling while in the K1 process.

Before coming to the US with Nick, I spoke to the actial CBP supervisor at Houston airport to ask specific questions about baggage and if we had to list the contents of six suitcases. He said just put "household possessions"...one line, that't it. Saved us alot of concern.

And last week I called the CBP customs agent who approves/clears imports, since the ship with Nick's boxes is due in port soon. I wanted to know the process of what happens since we are clearing customs ourselves and picking up his things. He told me bring a passport, list of contents, and the bill of lading to his office and he gives us a clearance to go get the goods. Good answer straight from the horses mouth.

So, my advice is just go straight to the source and try to find an answer. You don't have to tell them who you are or give them a passport number.

Thanks Nich - I'll give them a call .... yes.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisits to the USA
Hi All

We are in the process of putting the final touches to the I-129F application - hopefully it will be sent off at the beginning of November.

My fiance lives in the USA (I'm in Scotland) and I have been visiting him regularly over the last two and a half years. I was advised while going through POE on my last visit, that I would need to make this my last visit for a while as I was nearing the 180 day threshold per 12 month period.

I haven't seen my fiance since the end of August this year and know it will take several months for the visa to be approved, so I would like to visit him again in January for 10 days just to break the waiting period up a little.

Does anyone know when the "year" starts? Do immigration calculate the number of days you visit the USA on a calendar year? I'm a little wary of spending all that money on a flight until I know for sure that I have my "new allowance" of visiting days ... good.gif

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me ...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresRFE Already!!
Hi All

We sent our I-129F off to the California Service Centre on the 14th of November. Steve got the package delivered back to him yesterday. They had collated it all and put it into a nice clip, but have asked us to send them a new I-129F form.

Unfortunately, I had listed my children in Section 5 - I didn't realise that they didn't need to go on the form if they were over 21 years of age or married!

Oh well, nevermind - hopefully this is our first RFE and also the last - it looks like they've accepted the rest of the documentation.

Steve is posting the whole thing off again on Monday, so fingers crossed for us!!

Have a good weekend everyone ...

I did it much like you. cover letter, I-129f, supplements, Our G325's all in the first section, itinerary, passport, supporting evidence for having met and pictures to go with it all in the center. The last section I put birth certificate, marriage certificate, divorce decree.. etc...

Kim - can I ask why you included your marriage certificate? I didn't think you had to include that and would hate to get things wrong .. helpsmilie.gif

Same as me. I need to show proof that my last name was changed from my previous marriage.

I see .. so you only include it if the USC Petitioner is female? Or do I, as the alien fiancee, need to include my marriage certificate too?

Sorry for being so dense, but working on the I-129F has turned my brain to sludge lol smile.gif

Just as an afterthought .. does being called an alien make anyone else laugh or is it just me? I keep having visions of ET biggrin.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUK/scotland police check?
That page says 10 days, is it much longer than that??

I just got the NOA2 two weeks ago, I haven't received the letter from the embassy yet so if I apply now then I should hopefully be ok. My fiance has to fund the entire process cause I don't have a job just now.

I was confused about this because whenever I have needed one before it was disclosure scotland, but knowing my luck I would have bought one then got it turned down!

Hey everyone

I am wondering what kind of police check I need done, living in scotland.

I assume its a disclosure scotland check, whether it is enhanced or basic I don't know.

Haven't been sent the guidance on it yet but want a head start.

If anyone knows anything I would be very grateful!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresRecent visit while K1 pending... anyone???
I just returned from a 6 week trip to the US...

Entered at newark, said I was staying for 6 weeks and the guy didn't even ask why, or to see a return ticket

I also went for three weeks in march, all I was asked was if I was visiting friends.

I brought "evidence" both times but never needed it. Better to be safe than sorry I guess.

The letter finally came! Medical next wednesday, forms sent off! I didnt realise thata you have to pay for the visa before interview. Their website says bring payment to the interview... well that has messed up our budget!

I thought it was a letter! Ive been waiting on a letter coming! Blarg!

ok my medical will probably be the week beginning the 15th. Ill post my forms tomorrow. This really confused me. I haven't heard anything from them. Thank god for visa journey!

I think I have knocked our plight back by about a month by not getting the police check early...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureslondon embassy being slow?
I got my NOA2 back in june, and the NVC gave us our case number when we asked. I still have not received anything from the london embassy. I should receive my police check this week and I will go for the medical as soon as, I am told the wait time is one week.

So everything should be ready for when they do eventually contact me (I will probably have sent it before then!). But why the hold up?

Also, does anyone know how long the typical wait is between them receiving packet three, sending packet 4, and the actual interview date?
micmacFemaleScotland2011-08-01 17:04:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan I expedite my interview date?
Are you close to interview? I would chance it. I read that tourist visas can be expedited for family health problems, Im sure they would be compassionate about it if you are close to the finish line anyway.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPaying US Embassy for Visa Interview
The part of the website that talks about documentation to bring to interview says visa payment of $350, so I was confused when I got the letter saying pay over the phone. Was really annoyed cause their phone line is like £2 a minute! I was also wondering when it should be payed. Do you have to pay before you receive packet 4?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresdoes wedding date help embassy prioritise interview dates?
well I sent packet 3 over a week ago, but I resent it cause I thought I had the wrong address. so whether or not it was logged then I have no idea. I resent the forms on Thursday. That gives 6 weeks-ish to when I would need to leave for my estimated wedding date. I won't hold my breath! So long as the wedding is over by mid october I am ok with it. I just miss my fiance.

thanks for the replies. I will keep my fingers crossed and won't keep coming on visa journey cause I am psyching myself out! Will return once I receive word from the embassy.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresdoes wedding date help embassy prioritise interview dates?
I would book one but knowing my luck things will be slow! I am planning on booking when we get the interview date. I don't want to lose deposits or anything especially if wedding/travel plans give you no benefit in the visa process. I don't think the government websites are very helpful at all.
micmacFemaleScotland2011-08-12 18:10:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresdoes wedding date help embassy prioritise interview dates?
Basically I have seen so many conflicting things on the subject of packet 3 - packet 4 - interview times.

me and my fiance want to get married late september/early october cause of the harsh winters where he says and the fact that our honeymoon will be a road trip. We filed in March, and given the approximate 7 months that would be october. Our NOA2 came 6 weeks early.

I kinda messed up on the whole packet 3 situation and I am freaking out that I knocked us back several weeks.

But I put our wedding date as late september on the forms.

Do they prioritise interviews by wedding date? I heard some people say they waited approximately a month for interview and some say they waited 2 weeks from packet 4. I assume it is all done on a case by case basis and that is why there is so much difference and there is not a blanket "4 week wait time" or anything like that.

If anyone could clarify this it would really help me put my mind at rest!

Ooh I never thought of skype! yeah the embassy phone line is a rip off, don't see how it can be justified.

or ill get my guy to call them

my packet three took 2 months to arrive, so I don't trust the embassy's mailing system much!

What is their purpose?

people keep talking about DOS... and calling them and stuff...

why do you need to call them? Is it necessary? Does it get you anywhere?

is there a way of checking progress online rather than calling?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLondon Interview
The london embassy took forever to send out my packet 3. Maybe they are just being slow. I wondered about the wedding date too. My timeline runs later than yours but I put end september as my wedding date, cause we want to have our honeymoon before it gets cold. Not sure if that affects the interview date too much

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureswhat false information can do to you
agreed, there is a lot of scaremongering on this site. I became overtly critical of my own visa application and the speed at which I did it, and convinced myself my interview would be much later than it is.

Everything is case by case anyway.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureswhat are the stars on the visa?
I decided to look up what the little ** underneath the photo meant, apparently there are varying numbers of stars... lots of different theories, including visa denials, renewals and stuff.

I thought the stars were maybe for how many times you have been in the states prior to being granted the visa. I have been in the states twice and I have two stars.

I know it probably doesnt matter but I am curious...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresYes, you can visit!
I must say that this thread scared me and comforted me before I visited the US back in March. Someone had told me that I couldn't visit, so I looked on here and prepared myself the best I could.

I am an unemployed student, and at the time of my first trip (three weeks in march 2011) had pretty much cut all ties with my university. Finding evidence to bring was very hard. I cant even remember what I brought cause I was never asked about anything! That POE was Salt Lake City. I was asked if I was visiting friends and I said yes. He asked for my return information. The officer then stamped me and took my picture, was very nice and complimented my glasses. That was it!

The second trip I entered at Newarkand wasn't asked any questions at all. I wasn't even asked for my return itinerary, I offered it to the officer and he just said he didn't need to see it. I was surprised because this trip was 6 weeks long, and only 6 weeks after my last trip. The NOA2 arrived a during my trip,I don't think they have a register of whats going on, certainly for the petition stage anyway.

Both times I entered under visa waiver programme as a UK citizen.

I freaked out about this for ages before my trips, running around looking for evidence. Genuinely believing that I wouldn't get past security. My advice would be to be prepared and don't volunteer information unless asked.

I don't think that is something they need to know at this stage, as long as you have a co-sponser you should be fine. Anyone else know for sure? I think if you aren't the primary sponser, then it shouldn't affect anything, but don't completely go on my answer!

P.S Please update your timeline smile.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedurespassport photos
Hi,
I rang round photographers who do wedding photos and such. I found one real nearby, Laurencekirk, (small town so it can't be that rare) who has a hand held polaroid camera that goes to different passport settings. He just selected the US setting. It cost £20 for three of us to have 6 photos each. I took along the photo requirement page from the website that says background etc. Placement of head. Easy peasy. Absolutely no chance of a photobooth for US photos near me. For the emdical I took along US photos, but also UK ones. The UK ones did the job. Save the US ones for another day.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow to Cancel or Withdraw K-1 Petition?
It is scarey just before the interview. You can be terrified of doing something wrong. It is a big thing. I got so scared before mine. My husband responded by coming over to support me to show that he would be there whatever happened. I think maybe you need to reassure your other half, and say that at least if she goes for the interview she will have true freedom of choice, without fear. Otherwise she will never know. Families can be harsh and cruel prior to interview. Much pressure. In a sense she has to do the interview for herself, so she knows she has made the decision herself.

On the other side of the interview, (and prior to it once I had said how scared I was to my husband) things feel fine. Saying goodbye to family, and there is nothing left to scare me any more.

If your other half was not in some way wary of the move she would be foolish. Don't give up on her just yet.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresJob problems
Hi all,

Just an update on this situation as it stands. Having sent a letter to the Embassy in London on May 23rd explaining the situation and just checking if they could extend the petition expiry date, I received a letter last week saying "We contacted you regarding the receipt of an approved petition etc etc have not yet heard from you, please get in touch by August 21st." Despite having definitely sent them a letter I'm not going to split hairs as it does at least show via this letter that they did extend the time anyway.

My fiance has just gotten a new job and starts next Monday so we're ready to get the wheels rolling again. Once she has the first couple of payslips, the I134 and the employer letter she's going to send them to me by express mail so I'll have all that by mid August. I just called the embassy on the switchboard number to see about what sort of timeframe we'd be looking at for an interview appointment to become available but the (it must be said) rude lady at the embassy told me they do not discuss that sort of thing on the telephone and I would have to write to say I was "ready for the interview process and they would get back to me in due course."

I'm going to write up a letter just now and send it special delivery (seeing as it seems the first one vanished or is lost in the embassy admin pile) - am I likely to be waiting quite a long time to hear back from them? I've no idea what sort of working time there is for the interviews but I'll need to know asap to book time of work (they are very picky about me giving them 4-6 weeks notice). What sort of wait did any other London Embassy users have before hearing back?

Cheers.
