United Kingdompolice cert in hampshire
QUOTE (bunsk2007 @ Oct 15 2007, 09:01 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi there

We're still at the early stage, having only just filled I-130 in London. I'm wondering about the police certificate that I'll need- whether to apply for it now, just so that it's to hand for the next stage? I'm assuming that it would be the Hampshire police as this is where I've lived for the last 5 years- how far does it need to go back before that? Do I go to my local police station, and what is the certificate that I need? Is there a fee for it?

Thanks in advance. This forum is a real find- thank god for being able to chat with other people going through the same thing!
Jessica

My wife applied for everything ASAP. (then again she is usually ultra prepared!)

My partner's interview is on the 22nd of next month *squee* and he wants to go have a drink afterwards (he's already a bundle of nerves). Can someone recommend a good pub nearby to the consulate?

we had "breakfast" in Garfunkels on Duke Street on the way back up to Bond Street, they serve alcohol.

United KingdomMoving to California
Hi guys!

We just wanted to thank you all for your help and support throughout this incredible journey we've been on for the past 8 months. We have our visa in hand now and will be flying off to California tomorrow to start our new lives. Good times and praise God we made it through! hehe

So thanks for everything! Once we do get settled, we'll still check in to see if we can now help those who are just starting their immigration journey. Good luck to all of you still trying to get it sorted and may your visas be granted soon!

Many thanks,
William and Chelsea

United KingdomPostal Strikes in UK
An agreement has been reached that could lead to an end to strike action by postal workers.

The breakthrough came late on Friday after marathon talks between Royal Mail and the Communication Workers' Union at the TUC in London.

Details are yet to be announced, but it is hoped the deal will end the dispute, which centres on pay, pensions and flexible working.

The terms reached will be considered by the union's executive on Monday.

The deal was ratified by Royal Mail boss Adam Crozier, Communication Workers' Union (CWU) general secretary Billy Hayes and his deputy Dave Ward, and TUC general secretary Brendan Barber.

Further wildcat walk outs in Scotland

Almost 100 postal staff have been staging wildcat strikes in Edinburgh and Grangemouth over pay deductions following recent official action.

Workers left depots in Edinburgh North West and Grangemouth at about 0900 BST.

The walkouts followed 48-hour strikes last week and earlier this week. Staff said deductions for both strikes came out of one weekly wage.

United KingdomPostal Strikes in UK
Article came out in Sunday Post today advising that postal workers in the UK (130,000 workers) intend to strike this Thurs and next Monday. They will also begin striking weekly from mid-October until Christmas. I understand people gotta do what they gotta do but this is really inconvenient for those in the early stages of immigration process. Just thought y'all should know!

Peace!

I used a company called Anglo Pacific. They've been great so far. We did it sea freight and should arrive in 6-8 weeks. I called around and it was the best rate I found for door to door service.

hmm so, where do i find this extortion line number? I'm lost.

Here's the link:
http://london.usemba...assistance.html

If you call the number there in London, just make sure to have all your questions ready and ask everything clearly....so as to shorten the call time. They charge £1.20 per minute so it can get quite expensive. When we called, the guy was surprised we hadn't gotten our Packet 4 yet, but he told me that our interview was already scheduled and gave me a date. That way I could finish my preparations. Packet 4 arrived less than a week later, but it was all worth it for the peace of mind we got.

mmm is it normal to wait 3.5 weeks for packet 4?! our checklist arrived at the embassy Sept 8th and we still don't have an interview date?

or um wait. from reading another thread I gathered that they wait til you do your medical to schedule your interview. Is that true?
thanks !

I would say that's a little long to wait for Packet 4 if you've already sent in Packet 3. Now, bear in mind there are going to be many postal strikes coming up so that could affect wait times as well. They don't wait until you've scheduled your medical to give the interview, so that's not it. What I would recommend is that you go ahead and call the embassy on their very expensive operator number. It is at an extortionate rate, but if they've already scheduled you the interview, they can see that on the system and will tell you over the phone so you can then go and schedule the medical. Its worth the cost for the peace of mind anyway.

Good luck!

United KingdomNeed some UK forum love!
I'm one of lifes organisers, I hate things being out of my control and right now it feels like my whole future is out of my control. This whole visa thing is by far the most stressful thing I have done (along with flying for visits to US as I get physically sick I'm so scared of flying, not good for a transatlantic relationship). It's the uncertainity that gets to me. I've made numerous lists of things I need to do and when the earliest I can do them is.

At the end of the day though I sit with a nice cup of scottish tea (gonna miss the natural soft water hear) and remember why I'm doing this.

I met Nick on yahoo in Feb 06. He messaged me and sat for about 15mins wondering whether to reply or not.....glad to say I did. Met each other in person in Nebraska in June 06. He flew to Glasgow in Dec 06 then went back for a while. Now he's here until december then the next time we will see each other will be once I have my visa. Hoping to be able to head to US in March.

United KingdomFav. all time food and drink in the UK

Just wondering if I can do some food shopping in the next few weeks, stuff I can take with me that will keep for a while, having ideas of just turning up with two suitcases full of food.
All the curry ingredients I can carry, a ton of Twix bars to freeze and eat while still frozen, Fair Trade tea bags, Green and Blacks chocolate, wheaten bread from my favourite bakery in Belfast, Heinz baked beans, HP chilli sauce.....

Howzabout another approach.

Take your trip THROUGH Canada, with a couple-days delay between landing in Canada and going to US.

Then you can get some of the above (the HP sauce and Heinz beans) in Canada and bring them across.

I'm going to be flying direct to Philly but I'm already wondering about begging a friend who lives in Buffalo to do a little cross border shopping for me before he comes down to Philly for our wedding.
Great thing about where I'm going to be living is a Gujerati grocery store right across the street so lots of goodies there for me too. They have great samosas and the widest selection of fresh veggies I've seen anywhere I've been in the US.

Some Brit goods (Ribena, brit candies; you can also get Kissan squashes) will be available at the Gujarati store.

My suggestion of going through Canada was made after I looked at CanadianFavourites--which lets you know you can also order some of the items online (though it will price-clobber you somewhat, it is somewhat convenient).

Ribena...my mother thought that was good for me, used to let me drink it neat till the dentist put her right.
I had 6 milk teeth taken out thanks to that stuff.
Still remember the taste with a smile though. :)

I don't know about K-3 but the man who dealt with my file at the US Embassy on Wednesday last week told me they had stopped using the bank giros they used to send out as they were too expensive. He also said the embassy gives a better rate of exchange than the bank did so it's better for visa applicants too. I don't know what rate they offer as I paid in US$.
