I'm having my interview and being stuck on my own in London on pancake day.

Anyone know anywhere to go get pancakes in central London?

United Kingdominsurance?
what companies have people used? Any to look into or avoid? I'm looking to insure my flights and baggage plus I'm also looking into short-term medical insurances. I've found a few companies that do K1 visa medical insurance but just looking for input from those that have been there and done it.

flights booked. 12th march.

Glasgow - Dublin
Dublin - Chicago
Chicago - Omaha

return flight (return date 26th march which obviously not being used) booked through American Airlines for only (are you ready for this) £425. I nearly fell off my chair when I saw that, it's the cheapest flights I've ever had!!!!!!!!!! Means I can top up my American Airmiles too. Should have enough for a free trip after this one.

United Kingdomthe good, the bad and the interview
Knock at my cabin door on sleeper train "miss cowey here is your breakfast we'll be in london in 25mins". My thoughts were, "BREAKFAST!!!! HOW CAN I EAT BREAKFAST!!!! a G&T WOULD BE BETTER". About 10 mins later all the carriages shuddered to a halt and there was a load of noise and hurrying. Some dude at Harrow and Wealdstone had had enough of life and decided the way to solve his problems was to jump infront of my train. My day started going rapidly downhill. It was 7.35ish, I didn't know where I was, (well the sign said Harrow and Wealdstone but that doesn't help much when you don't know the area). I'll spare the details but the next 2 hrs involved a very crowded bus, 2 even more crowded tube trains and a taxi. It wouldn't have been quite so bad but it was heading into rush hour and the jubilee line was down...guess which was the line I needed!!!!!???!!

Arrived at the embassy at around 9.20 just as they were setting up the 10am line, I was at the front. Got through security faster than I thought and was actually inside embassy sitting in one really uncomfortable chair (icky chair with hardly any backrest!!! so much for making your imminent long wait comfortable) by 9.40am. At around 10.05 I was called to window 12 were I found a london bloke with a bit of a miserable look. He said to pay the guy in the next window for visa then asked for various documents which I handed over then came the bit I dreaded most...finances......... I handed over my own stuff first and he asked if I had an I-134 from Nick, I said I did but he's currently not working but I also have a co-sponsor. He looked at my bank statements and just said, "this should be fine" never even asked to see co-sponsor stuff. I got sent away and started to settle down as best I could in those nasty chairs and started reading, my number finally got called to window 16 at around 1055. This time it was a really nice american woman with a big smile on her face. Here is my interview after doing the whole swear to tell the truth thing...

Interviewer: How's you morning so far?
Me: Ok I guess, better than the guy that jumped infront of my train! (interviewer laughed)
I: how did you meet?
Me: Yahoo, he saw my 360 page and got in touch
I: Have you seen much of each other in person?
Me: *laughing* He only went home from a long stay here in December.
I: AH, is that why he isn't working?
Me: yes but he's looking
I: why on earth do you want to live in Nebraska?
Me: beacuse he is there and to be honest I actually like it. I don't like cities being a country girl and it's nice and spread out so doesn't feel too...city-ish.
I: Well, this is fine so you are good to go. Pay the courier on the way out. Remember the visa is good for entry for 6 months. On entering the US you must get married within 90 days. After your marriage you will need to file for AOS, remeber you cannot leave the US and enter again until you have either AP or greencard otherwise I'll see you here again in 12months.
At this point the overwhelming relief that came over me lead to a few tears, the interviewer passed me some tissues
I: I'm used to that reaction but stop that, people will think I'm mean *smiling*
Me:thank-you so much
and I walked away, grinning ear to ear.

Paid courier, collected phone, phoned Nick, then mammy then texted Aly. All done. Went for a wee walk to hunt down some pancakes and walked along oxford street and found out selfridges were giving them out free...YEY!!! Spent the rest of the day walking miles then waiting for my train home. Now I'm home, exhausted, relieved and going to have a catnap for a few hours then book my flights, hopefully some cheap ones too!!!.

thanks for clearing that up.

Big thanks for posting your exprience in detail. I'm still scared as hell and still convinced I'll be declined...guess I'll know in 3 weeks! I just hope I get the nice people.

yes..definatly declare it.

if you tell the truth the worst that can happen is you'll be refused entry. if you lie the worst that can happen will be you get pulled up for misrepresentation and that could possibly lead to need for waivers etc!

lying (or omitting the whole truth) = bad juju

I had exactly same problem as you. They had my high school ones but not infant ones. Obviously I was an infant and don't remember having them and they cannot prove I had them, so for the sake of my health they agreed to do them. There's no risk if you have already had them only reason the GP quibbled slighty was the cost to the practice. Should have kept better track of my records!

Congratulations on the new addition to your family!!! I have two grown kids (I mean, cats), who love Darren...of course, that is a pre-requisite for a husband (to love my cats and be loved in return!!!)...

unfortunatly I have to leave my wee girl here, she is getting old and always been easily stressed, I'm worried the move would literally kill her. She is going to live out her days destroying the local rodent population of the west scottish countryside with my parents.

I am however moving into an appartment in a house with 4 cats and a St. bernard. Nick's parents also have 3 dogs.

United KingdomWestern women with husbands from FSU countries
I have to say I'm in full agreement with Elmcitymaven and julez. My fiance is the USC and I'm a proud Scottish woman. To suggest that anyone on VJ would be putting themselves through the hell of separation and dealing with US immigration for any reason other than real love is insulting. My relationship is the result of a very fortunate meeting by chance. As is the case with most people on this site. If someone had told me 3 years ago that I'd be marrying a USC and up rooting myself from scotland I would have laughed at them and said no chance!

United KingdomHow did everyone meet?
Through Yahoo. Nick sent me a message that just said, "you look nice...talk?" Well I replied. I was down as my boyfriend had slept with my mate, Nick was down as his girlfriend had ran off with his best mate. I said I needed a holiday and was going to stay with a friend in Texas, we decided to meet for a couple of days. Had big argument with friend in Texas, decided rather than cancel holiday I'd change my flights and just go there for the full 3 weeks. The rest is history and the future lies ahead.

regarding games...I was also a guildwars addict, so much so I was and still am a guild leader. Don't play as much now. Was a WoW addict for many moons too but gave up when decided to move to US as not spending money on subscription for a character I can't use in US. Currently addicted to sid meyers pirates.

do you have a copy of co-sponsors birth cert or passport or something else to prove US citizenship. I came through on co-sponsor and that was one of the things they asked for.

I am the one that self sponsored with 9K (almost $18K at the time). I think as long as you can show you have enough to survive on thats fine.

United KingdomThe United States of America - my thoughts so far
thanks Saywhat. I loved reading your post. I'm from Scotland, now living in Grand Island, NE. All I keep getting is..."please say something in your accent" it was funny at first, now I'm starting to feel like an exhibit at a freak show.

I totally understand the history aspect. There is sthur museum here which the town is very proud of and it is nice and pretty, we got married in the church there. The thing that gets me is that everyone goes on about how old it is. I'm used to going to see ancient Scottish castles, viking sites, bronze age round house sites and the like.

What email did you use? LondonNotary@state.gov and putting the subject as 'emergency appointment' would probably get more attention, but im not sure you have time for that, I'm not sure he will be able to get it all resealed in time for friday, especially if he is going to be away.

United KingdomQuick question
Thanks Magenta, I called up the surgery again today, since the nurse still hasn't called me back, and the woman at reception said "he still has your number, he will call this week because you dont need any vaccinations for the USA" .

I have told her every single time that I'm not going over for a holiday I am moving there!. She is driving me insane lol.
NicoxcxFemaleScotland2008-07-30 06:27:00
United KingdomQuick question
Thankyou Scarlett, I followed your advice and rang them up this morning, they said they would have the nurse call tomorrow to schedule an appointment.

I have also had my measles and rubella jabs but not the mumps, and I am fairly sure I have already had my Tdap so hopefully there will not be to many needles in my near future.

I'm hoping that all I will have to pay for at my medical in London is the full exam at 180 , anything else I dont mind paying in dollars in the states.

United KingdomQuick question
All of this Vaccination stuff is the most confusing part for me!, I read over the thread lots of great advice, so thanks guys!.

I was going to call my GP tomorrow and ask about getting my immunisation lists, would I be better getting an appointment with him ? Or should I request an appointment with my GP nurse? I have no idea what I have already had, and what I need!

I would like to delay the HPV unitil I get to the USA, purely because I would feel alot more settled.

United KingdomMy fiance sent his packet 3 back, with only the DS forms enclosed..
So I gather that means as long as your police certificate etc etc; is all dated around the time of packet 3 all should be fine? , I was worried about my Fiance sending me his letter from his employer with a date a month or so before the interview.

United KingdomI know most of you met your OH online...
The USA seems generally to be more tolerable of online relationships.

Does anyone remember the first time they met there SO in the USA, how easy was it to get threw customs? It was alot simpler than I thought it would be, infact my third time there I took a grilling from the lady at customs when she asked how we met , and I said online, I wasnt going to lie I just wanted to see my man again.

Stevens first trip here he also took a grilling, the customs guy at Glasgow airport called me on my mobile to ask if I knew him, and what we were going to do!.

We also looked into ways to be together without marriage at first, right now the time is perfect, I have just graduated college and the only ties I have to my bonnie country is my family and friends, no financial ties etc;.

How long has everyone been with there SO? (dating/engaged I mean, not how long have you known each other)
