Hi Everyone

Just thought I'd pop in & say hi. It's been hectic since I got here, unpacking, getting settled, getting to know the neighbours, familiarising myself with the house & making it that bit more girly! It's been great so far & we are both so happy. By the way, POE Chicago was a breeze. The only downside was the long queue waiting to be processe but the CO was really smiley.

This process has been the most stressful of our lives but we are grateful for the help you guys gave on here on VJ. I couldn't have done this without the advice of others. It's so worth it though in the end & Mike & I are so happy, we're smiling all the time! star_smile.gif
I still can't get my head around the fact that I'm here permanently & I'm not using the visa waiver programme!! It feels fab good.gif

Good luck to everyone else with the POE's & also to those still waiting for your visas.

Laura & Mike (Monkeyjuice)

Glad your POE went so well. Itold them to look out for you when I left Tuesday night localtime (Chicago). Pat has left her notice @work and it looks like she'll be traveling on the 4th of July.. kinda appropriate that my brit arrives on the same day we declared our independence from England.

Bob

I was joking about them to look out for you

What a great day to travel to the USA! I hope everything goes well with Pat's journey ..... yes.gif

Steve and I have set our wedding date for July 3rd .... kicking.gif

Congratulations Nik and Heather - nice one!! good.gif

Good luck and best wishes to John & Mary and karenandtrev for their interviews!!

Good Morning!!

Just wanted to say congrats to Bob and Patricia!! Congrats also to JimandChristy and krystiandjon kicking.gif Well done to The Sams' on their medical approval!!

I will post a review of POW Detroit once I get my breath back, but it was pretty straight forward. I made sure I had plenty of time between landing in and flying out of Detroit again, so it was pretty stress free!

I waited in a line with about 6 people in front of me - 15 minute wait maximum. I did check to see if I should be in Line 37 as per some posts I've read re POE Detroit, but was directed to Line 31 - one of the normal visitor lines.

The Officer had a quick browse through my paperwork and then I was asked two questions. Where in the USA will you be living and when are you getting married? Then he did the fingerprint and retinal scan and I was done!! The whole experience took 20 minutes - including waiting time - WONDERFUL!! I got the "Welcome to America" as well, which was nice ....

Customs was straightforward too - apart from struggling with two enormous suitcases and my carry on luggage!!

All flights were through KLM/NWA and I couldn't fault them .....

I spent a long weekend in Rapid City SD, so I'm only just unpacking this morning. I hardly got my foot in the door on Thursday night and we were on the road again! His nephew's High School Graduation, Mount Rushmore and the Badlands were amazing though - so the rush was all worthwhile ....... biggrin.gif

Have a great week everyone ....

Hi All ....

I just wanted to wish Bob and Patricia good luck for Friday .... good.gif I hope the interview goes well for both of you!

I'm just putting the finishing touches to my packing ... my flight is at 6am tomorrow morning ....

This is such a confusing time for me. On one hand, I'm so happy to be going to Iowa to marry Steve - after three years of waiting - but on the other, I'm so sad to be leaving my family. I know everything will be fine and that they will visit us and we will visit them .... I'm just going to miss them so much .... They have been so supportive about the whole visa process - they just want me to be happy ....

Och, I'm being a silly woman again .... how can I be homesick already? I haven't even gone yet!!

Take care everyone ... I'll be back online in a few days once I've settled ....

Wishing FAST visas for all those waiting .....

Where are you flying into and have you found any reasonably priced flights? I actually thought that one way tickets would be cheaper ... duh ... I've been pricing return flights which are half the price!

Flying into Dulles, and actually I have found one-way flights with one stop are cheaper than direct returns (which, yes, are cheaper than direct one-way). The stopover would be in Dublin (the immigration might be there - although possibly not for Aer Lingus flights to Dulles!) so I am trying to decide.....

Congrats on the medical Ellie and David!

Magpie - you'll have to let me know if Thorpe Park is any good - I might be going there myself Monday!

Er who is cheaper? I have tried the one way thing and to detroit its aalllll expensivo. tell me what you used please?

Hiya

Try lastminute.com

Search for a return flight - and change the return date several times to find the cheapest price. Return date obviously doesn't matter, cause you won't be using it! One-way flights are almost double the price ....

Hey guys,

So, I've got to know: are we right in thinking that after sending off packet 3 and them inputting it into their system on April 1, its about time to start worrying that we haven't received an interview date yet?

We emailed them on Fri and today I even had my Senator's aide send an email...do you think there's anything else we can do? The wedding's July 11!

Cheers!
Krysti

There's a bit of a backlog apparently (or so they claim, rrr!)...did you specify a travel date? You might want to call DOS in the US (+12026631225 -- hit 1, then 0) and check with them whether you might have got one yet and the letter's just being slow. Best of luck! I'm sure you'll get it soon.

Magpie.

I agree with Magpie .... call the DOS Krysti. If I hadn't called them, I wouldn't have known about my interview date. I had my interview Tuesday of this week and I STILL haven't had the letter from the Embassy no0pb.gif

United KingdomBritish passport for my daughter
The answer is here: http://ukinusa.fco.g...h-registration/

"Although we welcome applications to register the birth of children born in the USA to British-born parents, you should be aware that this is not obligatory. A registration certificate is a useful document to help establish a child's British nationality, but it is perfectly acceptable to apply directly for a British passport, without first registering the birth."

United KingdomBritish passport for my daughter
That's good advice, thanks for taking the time to respond. Since there are so many things that we'll have to do before leaving I guess I was looking for the simplest option. I don't however want to restrict my daughter's options in the future by seeking out convenience in the present. I don't believe I would be doing that by not registering her birth before we apply for the passport but it's worth thinking about.

I actually just read that before refreshing this topic. That's not a big deal. We can arrange that some time before we leave or with the consulate after we get home.

United KingdomBritish passport for my daughter
We've decided to move back to Scotland so instead of getting a U.S passport and a visa for my daughter we thought it would be more straight forward to get a British passport. My daughter was born here in San Antonio in May. The passport application notes aren't clear on whether I can submit the application without first registering her birth with the Embassy or if I would in effect be doing this by sending the application itself. Has anyone here applied for a British passport for their (U.S-born) kids before?

United KingdomBritish/Scottish recipes
Here's where you can get Irn Bru in the U.S. I've ordered from there once and would say it's worth the cost. It's alleged that the different colouring used changes the taste but I'd say that's either false or it's been so long since I've had a can of ginger in Scotland that it tasted just as amazing to me.

http://www.irn-bru-usa.com/

Now, on the question of brown sauce on your French toast... are you daft? It should be ketchup all the way. Still, using brown sauce is more acceptable than applying syrup and cinnamon; that's just gluttonous.

United KingdomSomebody HELP please...RFE Question
Hi,
I submitted my own divorce decree (Stonehaven sheriff court, Scotland) It is one page, says Form of extract decree of divorce, extract decree of divorce. Has date of marriage date of divorce. I got a certifed copy from the court house, showed up and paid for it there. Mailed out the next day. It just has a red stamp thing and a signature from the sheriff clerk. My husband's decree is pages long. It still just has a stamp on the last page, and we were warned by the court in California we got it from that it was only valid if all pages were kept stapled together.

I have never had any trouble with my divorce decree. Not a drop. Or with my husband's. I think the scottish one is if anything clearer. Maybe you send a letter from the court explaining this IS the final divorce decree.

United KingdomInternational Moving company
I used Crown Worldwide. They have a base in Aberdeen. I used them before for a shipment to Singapore. They pack everything for you. I sent 180 cubic feet as a part shipment. They hang onto it and put it in with something else. 100 cubic feet is a sort of minimum price, and more than that is not much more. Very helpful folk. Mine will have taken two and a half months when it gets there. The price was half what I thought it would be. Most of my stuff was books and there is no penalty for weight. Insurance was by volume which worked out fine for me as there was nothing individually very valuable in it. (There were other insurance options though.)

United KingdomCan't get police certificate!!!
Hi,
I contacted the police in Singapore. I was really unkeen to get my ex husband to provide records of his employment there. Wanted another way. They said the passport info was enough. So I copied the biographic info, and the stamps on relevant pages. They just wanted evidence I was there. This was an expired passport.

Sent off the copies, plus money and got the poilce certificate back. That went to the embassy.

I did have all my expired passports with me at the interview as evidence of travel, but they were not asked for.
