I don't have a ring. Well I have one of his rings that is far too big for me on a chain but don't have one. Nick had been out seeing a friend during summer when we were over there and I wasn't feeling well so I stayed in watching a movie. He came home in the early hours and woke me up, I'd fallen asleep on the sofa. I stood up, he gave me a hug and didn't actually ask me...he told me he never wanted to be without me and told me he was going to marry me. He did ask my dad when we came back which was sweet.

well at any minute this evening I'm expecting a phone call from my brother or his girlfriend. They are on a break in London whilst she is getting fitted for her bridesmaids dress for her sisters wedding which is in South Africa in March. They all going out for a meal tonight and my bro planning on popping the question. He's already warned her sister and her fiance. Kirsten is south African (hence south african wedding) and only here on a year by year employment type visa so now we trying to suss out UK visas.

I hope she says yes,she is great and her and my bro so good for each other...she's the only one of his girlfriends I've actually liked let alone had as a wine drinking mate!

I never got the skin test for TB for my AOS. Was never a problem, I also didn't get hep A or B. I imagine neither was a problem because I haven't worked anywhere it is needed like a hospital, custodial work etc;.

I also had my BCG in school, I am pretty sure it is common in all corners of the UK to have it in School.

I agree. If your Police certificate says "no live trace" you have to follow up because your name IS in the Police computer and you may get questioned about it at the interview. Even just for curiosity sakes! to think you have never been in trouble with the police and then find out your name did cause a hit would be pretty crazy!

Yes my then fiance was also pulled into secondary on his visits to me. I got a phone call from customs asking me about our application, where he worked, what I did for a living, how long he was staying etc;; luckily they had my mobile number which I took to the airport with me.

Steven also had nothing to show that he would return to the USA (He had 3 one way tickets, 2 for him and 1 for me to return with him). It is easier to get into the UK as a US citizen than vice versa. Your NOA1 will be the best evidence you can have!

The same rules apply with all customs officers, don't get defensive and be respectful and smile!

Enjoy our trip and don't worry.

London will tell you that you need it to adjust status, they don't try to force it upon you, they offer it.

Just wanted to let everyone know, if you are being asked to pay for teh HPV vaccine, call your states local health department and go to a family planning clinic, they offer the Vaccine free of charge to everyone, Don't mention immigration to make certain they aren't going to pull any ####### (although when I mentioned it the nurse still said they shot is always free), I just recommended someone else to do it (she was being charged $160 per shot) and she managed to get it for free.

United KingdomQuestion about registering my daughters birth
We are currently pregnant so have been looking into this alot. Keep in mind the USA does NOT recognise dual citizenship, they see you as either a US citizen or not. They won't take your passport from you but they won't recognize you as British if you choose dual citizenship they will only see you as a US Citizen.

I had my parents in Scotland call about dual citizenship and they were told that all we would have to do is register our babys birth at the registrar and then apply for a passport, I would imagine the british embassy in DC says you do not have to register the birth in the UK because they don't recognize dual citizenship anyway.

United KingdomThe 2009 United Kingdom Interview Thread!
Don't worry viknkam like the post above mine said sometimes they take it sometimes they don't.

They kept my passport and sent it back to me in the brown envelope. I wasn't in AP and got my Visa in hand pretty quickly. They keep your passport to stick the Visa into it. (or at least they did with me) this is a stupid question but if they don't take your passport where does the Visa go?

P.S. As to my work question ignore it, didn't realise this was the thread for interview experiences.

They kept my passport. Luckily I didn't fly because I would have needed photo ID to go back home (from England to Scotland) and I didn't bring any other ID's :X .

Gratz Sammills! now you get to celebrate before AOS biggrin.gif . Congrats viknkam, I would imagine non UK born residents have to wait a wee tad longer , I was told by the blonde hair lady (who done my interview) I would receive my Visa soon.

Anyway I was wondering, those Brits who are working in the USA now, how long did it take for you to get a job? or for those of you who's other half is the brit how long did it take?. I fortunately had a job in advance of my EAD thankgod!, I have a friend who is still searching. Just curious.
NicoxcxFemaleScotland2009-08-25 14:51:00
United KingdomTo the Brits - do you think everything here in the US is too sweet?
I have to agree about American foods being way to sweet, but personally I'm in food heaven here. I live just accross the street from a Gujerati store where I can get all my curry ingredients fresh as I want them.
As I only actually moved here Tuesday, yesterday lunchtime I didn't feel like cooking so just walked over the road and came back with a box of frozen massala dosas made in Kerela. While I'm not a big fan of processed foods I think I might buy more of those sometime.

Yeah, I've realised it is on one of the additional sheets i attached to the form, so I might just print out a new additional sheet to take and ask them to replace it.

It's changing from Jul-Sept to Jul-Aug, I left at the end of August though so technically Sept was only a week later. So it shouldn't look like an overstay or anything but I am worried it will look dodgy and am kicking myself for not picking it up before! I believe honesty is the best policy though so am hoping all will be ok....

Human error is not a reason to worry about, you did not purposely withhold information. Just let them know on the day of the interview and you will be fine.

I agree ... just explain it was a typo. They probably won't even notice, but if you're like me ... then things like that will worry you yes.gif - best just tell them so you can relax!!

And for those who haven't sent in package 3 yet, you might want to considering filling out both wedding date and travel date fields even if plans aren't finalized.

The IV-15 form asks what your travel and wedding dates might be, but I wouldn't consider putting in a date just to jump to the front of the queue. I'm not sure if it's related to assigning an interview date, but question 18 on the DS-157 form asks,
"Have you made specific travel arrangements? If YES, please provide a complete itinerary for your travel, including arrival/departure dates, flight information, specific location you will visit, and a point of contact at each location."

If I'm wrong in tying this to wedding/travel plans, somebody please correct me.
Bob

Hi All ....

I do remember seeing that Bob and I DID put NO to the DS-157 question. I have no specific travel dates - I'm doing what I'm told and am waiting until I have my visa in hand before booking my one way flight!

However, as you say, the IV-15 form asks if you have a date in mind for travelling and also for the wedding. I put "mid May" for travelling and "mid June" for the wedding. It's what we are hoping for, so maybe the Embassy will co-operate and maybe they won't! laughing.gif I know I couldn't give them specific dates, but I didn't want to just leave it blank ....

You know .... I've spent 11 days with Steve out of the last eight months and I'm really struggling to be patient .... I know I'm luckier than some people because I actually had a visit .. but OMG .. I wish they would hurry up and extract the proverbial finger! rofl.gif

OK .. OK ... I'm breathing ... INHALE .. EXHALE .. INHALE .. EXHALE ....

Hi Everyone

Just thought I'd pop in & say hi. It's been hectic since I got here, unpacking, getting settled, getting to know the neighbours, familiarising myself with the house & making it that bit more girly! It's been great so far & we are both so happy. By the way, POE Chicago was a breeze. The only downside was the long queue waiting to be processe but the CO was really smiley.

This process has been the most stressful of our lives but we are grateful for the help you guys gave on here on VJ. I couldn't have done this without the advice of others. It's so worth it though in the end & Mike & I are so happy, we're smiling all the time! star_smile.gif
I still can't get my head around the fact that I'm here permanently & I'm not using the visa waiver programme!! It feels fab good.gif

Good luck to everyone else with the POE's & also to those still waiting for your visas.
