US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical / Police Cert / Packet 3 London

so basically you received it 6 days after it was sent out!

my wedding is aug 5th so just as worried as you are mate, well keep in touch any let me know when u get ur interview. My medical is on 29th and i managed to get my vaccinations free at my GP.

I would just get the tube in rather than drive

Yeah it arrived and I left it a while before sending packet 3 off, but they (I assume) have had my completed forms now for a few days.

I have somewhere to sleep overnight on the 5th, so I am getting a cheap train down from Manchester the night before, then footing it/tubing it to Bond Street.

9:30 am... eek. Middle of rushhour :(

what date in April?

did you send your packet 3 forms before actually receiving your packet 3? when were they logged?

i guess we r around the same time frame

6th.

No we waited because I hadn't read up far enough ahead to know I could send it in beforehand.. D'oh.

My timeline is in my sig., hope it helps. Wedding is a few months off but it's still freaking me out :)

yes just your LND number, when did u send them? I just called them now to see if embassy has logged mine but they said that nothing is shown other than packet 3 was sent out on 22/3/11 which i have not received yet!

Sent mine on the 16th so nearly 10 days ago. They should have had them for 8 days.

Just called up DOS, they received my Packet 3 forms.

I wish I'd special delivery'd my Packet 3 forms now, at least I'd know they got there! I'll call DOS tonight though.

Do I just give them my LND number and ask if my Packet 3 forms arrived???

I will get the medical done soon as ... although I am currently recovering (badly) from a really nasty cold/chest infection.

Just called up now and have my medical appointment booked for the first week of April.. EEK! I am nervous already.

It's at 9:30 so I am figuring on having to battle though commuter traffic unfortunately. It was the first day she offered me and that's all that was left.

I would strongly recommend that any mail which is being sent to you from the USA is done via fed ex / ups / DHL or a known courier company, a friend of mine had documents sent to him via normal mail and this took about 1 month to receive.

I just sent my packet 3 special delivery yesterday which cost £5.50 and it was received this morning and i was able to trace it online with proof of signature.

I didnt actually receive packet 3 letter yet but DOS confirmed it was sent out on 22 march 11 but i have still not received it.

Yep - interview will be scheduled once they have your medical results and your checklist.

So:
Medical now = yep!
Checklist = If you want to try to jump ahead a bit, you can always post your checklist in about a week or so.. that way you'll be sure you have her I-134 in hand for your interview.... assuming the I-134 is right, all complete, w/ supporting documents :-)

Thank you... :) I'm not freaking out quite so much.

It's a lot of pressure if something goes wrong (big expensive wedding and deposits paid etc) ... ;)

I see you have a similar timeline to us. I was late getting all this stuff done but hopefully we won't be too far behind.

We're August 13th btw :)
David And KatieMaleUnited Kingdom2011-03-24 13:45:00
US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical / Police Cert / Packet 3 London

Timewise, you should be absolutely fine with August.

Schedule your medical now. It doesn't have anything to do with your I-134.

For us, once we mailed our packet 3 in (w/ checklist), we had an interview date less than 3 weeks later....

From what I had read (and I admit its a lot) I thought once you had your medical they would schedule you the interview... but that depends on the checklist, right?

So, medical now, send in checklist once I have the I-134 in hand and bobs your uncle?

I have my Police Cert (PC). Birth Certificate (BC). Passport is valid until 2018, so that's ok.

Pictures I have (2x Us size and 1 UK size).

Only thing I'm lacking now is the I-134 which the Mrs is working on as we speak. I'd say 2 weeks for that including posting time to me.
David And KatieMaleUnited Kingdom2011-03-24 10:56:00
US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical / Police Cert / Packet 3 London
I hoped to make the title as descriptive as possible.

Mailed Packet 3 in a week or so ago. Got my Police Cert today in the mail. Do I need to check they received Packet 3?

I am waiting on my lovely wife-to-be (The USC) to send me the I134's. Is there any point getting my medical done until I have the 134's in my hand?

At what point do I mail in the check list...? I mailed in the forms before the checklist because I, at that point, wasn't ready as per NickNich's guide.

Slightly freaking out because unfortunately there's a big wedding planned in August and I'm just hoping I make the visa in time.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS-157 question - employer
So, I have another question about the employment section.

Do I put in 'UNEMPLOYED' then the range of dates I was out of work for...? Or do I just leave it as putting the job down.

They only ask to list the employment, not the times I wasn't working...
David And KatieMaleUnited Kingdom2011-03-14 11:01:00
US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS-157 question - employer
Ok. I'll be honest with them, and you guys; working for myself is my first paying job, so there are no past employers.

The contracting is basically audits for fast food chains! Exciting stuff - NOT.

The only country I've ever visited aside from the UK is the US, and no toxic chemicals or anything like that ;)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS-157 question - employer
Hi Guys

just filling in the DS-157 form, and come up against a problem.

In section 12, where it asks for employer details, position etc. I am technically a freelance contractor, and don't have an employer as such. I'm self employed.

Anyone have any clue what to write in that section? I am very confused.

Yours,
David.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsSeptember 2010 K1 Filers

We filed ours and it was received on the 9th September 2010.
We had the approval letter sent out in April, then an email a few days later saying it is now under review at the USCIS. So we are unsure what is happening now - just waiting to hear.
Morna

Hi M :)

Glad to see you here at last.

We filed in September too, and I am *hopefully* at the interview stage. I called DoS but no word yet - then again they only had my DS-2001 for one working day.

EDIT: Scratch that, we were sent to CSC... Disregard :P

David.

No. Your two Letters of Intent to Marry and presumption of why you are filing the K-1 do that.

The reality of the relationship will be determined from your evidence and at the interview.

Ok, seems obvious when you put it like that... Appreciate it.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-129f Question 18

It's almost perfect; I've edited it a bit:

We first met through a friend in June 2008, and after talking on the phone and through the internet, my fiancé flew to the USA in October 2009 and we spent 3 weeks together. He flew back to Chicago in April 2010 and stayed for 7 weeks.

Hah, thanks for that, my original draft was almost identical to your edit! :) So no need to mention proposing etc.?

Thanks

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-129f Question 18
Hi folks!

My name's David, I currently live in Manchester, England. My fiancé, Katie, is the USC and she lives just outside Chicago (in Indiana).

We're finally putting the I-129f together and Question 18 is causing some problems - How long / short should I make the answer? Here's what I have so far:

We first met through a friend in June 2008, and after talking on the phone and through the internet, my fiancé flew to the USA in October 2009 and we spent 3 weeks together in a hotel. He flew back to Chicago in April 2010 and stayed for 7 weeks (in a hotel), and during which time he proposed to me and I said yes.

I have written it as if the petitioner is talking, rather than the beneficiary. I have also included passport stamps, hotel recipts, bank/credit card statements, purchase receipts and Katie will be printing pictures out of us together, and I also have ticket stubs from some of the attractions we have photographs from.

Does my question 18 answer look ok? Do I need more details?

Another question I have - do we address the Letter of Intent to the drop box in Dallas - or do we have to specify the local USCIS office - would that be Chicago?

Thanks in advance,
David and Katie.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThe Medical and the Vaccines you need to get
The vaccinations nurse at Knightsbridge Doctors told me that she'd need to see proof of first MMR dose from my GP/Nurse. I went to my GP/Nurse and she couldn't find my original MMR records, so she gave me a new MMR and we sent that off to Knightsbridge (along with a Tdap booster). I haven't heard back from KB yet which is good - but I will chase it up.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhen will you marry?
The CO who asked me that, only wanted to know in order to tell me that the visa runs out in 6 months and that I have 90 days in which to do it.

I don't think they are testing you, I think its more a way of checking you know the rules.

(In my experience, in London, anyway, YMMV).

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLondon interview, proof of financial support.?problem?
You didn't need to send in the I-134 + evidence with the Packet 3 forms, if I remember from my P3. You take the originals to the interview.

I'm not sure if you sent the originals you need to take them with you - but if they ask you for them you could explain they're already in your file.

NickNich will be along shortly, I'm sure.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresk1 visa (Visitation USA-->UK)
I visited Katie (I'm the UK'er) after we'd filed the I129F and the immigration official at the border wasn't happy with my recent trips to the US so I was pulled in for an interview. So I explained it all in details about having an American fiancé, and asked a whole heap of questions, and I was essentially told not to come back until I had my visa, and not to get married while I was there - but he stamped me into the country (on the same passport page as my last entry)

This was just my experience with the guys at Chicago O'Hare, so your experiences won't be the same, obviously.

Very scary though - those guys have the power to send you back on the next flight. ;)

Had my medical today, all went okay
I've got to have my MMR booster before I do AOS and get some sort of print out to prove I've got that
I'm not sure if my doctors actually do a proper print out, I know they weren't very fourth coming with evidence when I got my injections done before the medical.

However, has the price of the medical changed? I had to pay £210

Ouch, I paid exactly £200.

Did you have anything else done?

My nurse at my own GP surgery wasn't sure what was needed, so she gave me an initial dose of MMR and the tetanus(sp) jab, which has all the other things Knightsbridge needs. She printed off the report including dates, signed it, dated it, and put the GP surgery's stamp on it.

That was ok for the vaccinations nurse at Knightsbridge, anyway.

Did people wait for packet 3, or did you make the appointment as soon as you had the LND case number? Posted Image

I waited (stupidly), but you can do the medical as soon as you have your police certificate and LND number.

Sooner the better, in my opinion.

Well I had my medical today. First things first, I passed it (well awaiting the blood tests, but hey, I'm confident I don't have syphillis).

I will quickly write it up as I am exhausted (that word doesn't even begin to explain how tired I am right now).

Arrived in London around 9am - glad I had a later appointment, and walked through London, past Buck Palace and had a chat with the folks rigging cameras for the wedding. Then getting lost for the second time I finally managed to get to Bentinck Street. I walked around it twice before I realised I was looking for Bentinck Mansions, which is a big double fronted building on the corner. I buzzed Flat 4 (labelled as Knightsbridge Drs') and I was in.

Went in, and was met by the brusque girl on reception asking me if I had my paper work out and ready (I didn't - a lesson to anyone else, GET IT READY IN THE LOBBY BEFORE YOU GO IN). Handed everything over, was given the second questionaire to fill out - this is the one that goes to the Embassy, so listen to what she says.

Eventually called in to the nice Swedish(?) vaccinations nurse (or was she a Dr). She explained all my options (I hadn't got any of my VC's done prior) and I decided to get them done at my GP and have the GP fax/email over the results.

Then I got called straight into the chest x-ray. This constists of standing against the X-ray plate, back facing the machine. You have to hold your arms and shoulders in a position which is slightly uncomfortable, but not too difficult. Hold the lead apron against your bum and you're done.

Back to the waiting room to be called into the medical itself. I was examined by a blonde, female European doctor (she sounded Scandinavian or possibly German...?). She was really friendly and we had a good chat about things before she got down to the business in hand. Started off with me being weighed and measured (height) then she did my eye test (better than 20:20), blood pressure, which was high on my right arm, and borderline on my left - she said it was OK, but to get it checked. I did explain I was stressed and had just walked across London... ho hum. Then she took blood - no problem for me, I like watching the needle going in and the blood filling the syringe. Barely any pain.

Then she looked into my eyes with the light-thingy and the same with my mouth, all clear there. Then she asked me to strip down to my boxers and examined me from literally head to toe - checked my lymph glands, legs, feet, listened to my heart and then my lungs, then did my reflexes then the 'DC' - just a quick lift of the boxers and a feel (!) and she said I was done. Got dressed, had another little chat about the state of health in America, and how well I'd done losing all that weight (24 stone down to 17.5, and that I'd put more on since I'd spent time in the US).

Went back out to the waiting room and was called back in by the now slightly less brusque receptionist - we talked about my vaccinations and that I need to get them done and get them faxed or emailed over, but to call Knightsbridge to let them know otherwise the file will just sit there gathering dust. Then she asked for money :( I tried to crack a joke at this point but it fell flat - the vaccination nurse laughed and said: no it wasn't a bad joke, she just has no sense of humour ;) I said it was because I was a 'northern monkey' (in my best London accent) she said 'nahh, my mam's from Middlesboro' init, that's near Manchester, right?'. ;)

I think humour is wasted on these girls, not because they don't have a sense of humour, they just deal with so many people day in day out, we're all the same. I did tell her the wedding was in August and I'd better not loose any of these forms and she said: "yeah your fiancé won't be happy". She then wished me a sincere good luck with it all and that was it...

Phew.

On leaving I took a load of pictures of the route from Bond Street Tube station to the Doctors office - if anyone wants, I will write them up into a little article so anyone arriving at Bond Street can navigate their way. I came in to Victoria Coach station which is a little out of the way, but walking up Buckingham Palace Road and just keep heading north until you hit Oxford Street, then follow James Street all the way up until you hit Bentinck Street - it's pretty easy. Again, I shall put the pictures online somewhere with some text - it may help.

It's fine to change it, as long as you give them at least 3 days notice, otherwise they charge you £95...eek!!

Thanks, I will call them up tomorrow first thing. I realise now this will push back the date of my medical and thus my interview, but still waiting on Katie's mum to get her proof of income... :) Cheers again.

Hi Scotch,

Sent off for that last week ( can't remember the date exactly ). I know I've dropped the ball on this one, I should've researched it all back when we got our NOA2.

Sending P3 off tomorrow and then just a matter of waiting for the Police Cert and then the medical.

Assuming I can send the packet 3 off without having the pol. cert. and the medical?

Quick question to people in the know...

I'm just about to send Packet 3 off. Do I need to wait for my police certificate to book the medical? How do I go about booking the medical and the interview on the same day? I don't really fancy travelling to London twice in a short time (hopefully short anyway).

Is there any point doing both on the same day?

United KingdomInterview with no medical - possible?
Hi folks,

I just rang up the medical people and (thinking about it now) stupidly gave up my 6th of April at 9:30am appointment (I hope someone on here gets it instead) and I'm now scheduled for an hour later on the 18th.

I'm not sure why I said yes to this, because at most it gives me just an hour breathing room, and doesn't let me travel any cheaper... :(

I realise I'm still waiting on my lovely Wife to be and my future mother in law to send me the I-134s, so the interview couldn't happen until then, but if I have my I-134s in hand and haven't had my medical, do the Embassy ever make interview appointments?

The next appointment would have been the 20something at 1:50pm. I felt that was just too long to wait...

The only upside I can think of is it gives me chance to walk from the bus station to the Medical without being hurried, and I can maybe stop at Buck Palace on the way and take some pics like a real tourist ;)

David.

United KingdomLondon Medical on Monday the 18th...
The Swedish vaccinations nurse told me not to worry that it was marked incomplete, that it was just because tetanus has to be boosted.

Well, I went to my GP nurse and she gave me an MMR (she couldn't find my original child-dose of MMR) and it has been 12 years since I had a Tdap, so she gave me one of those too. She printed me out a record of the "1st MMR" dose and the Tdap which I scanned and emailed to Bentinck Mansions.

Had an email from one of the girls in admin saying they'd printed it out and given it to the Vaccinations nurse, and she would contact me directly if there were any problems - this was on... Wednesday, and I haven't heard anything yet. I will follow it up on Tuesday with a phonecall (stupid public holidays) and double check.

Hopefully Katie's I-134s will arrive sometime soon. I am resisting sending in the DS-2001 until I have the I-134 forms in my hand.

United KingdomLondon Medical on Monday the 18th...

Perfect. Nick did the same. He didn't want to spend £25. Then his GP said DTP was in short supply at the time and reserved for babies. A couple of days later, the nurse called and said we have DTP with your name on it. When do you want to come in? Yay! So it all worked out. The immunization nurse at Knightsbridge was super helpful to him. She mailed a copy of his DS-3025 form to him after it was signed off.

When you get to AOS, you're going to read a lot of people saying (and VJ guidelines) to pay a civil surgeon to copy your DS-3025 shots to an I-693. I can tell you about 100 people who didn't because they got it complete at their visa medical. A photocopy of your DS-3025 with Tdap/Td/DTP etc, MMR, and VH (by varicella)on it; the "results" marked incomplete-may be eligible for blanket waiver; and the doctor's signature will be considered acceptable.

The receptionist and the nurse both told me they'd mail me a copy (and told me to make LOTS OF COPIES) of it, and not to lose it, because I'll need it for AOS (they both stressed to me the importance of making copies of it and keep the original safe).

They were really nice and helpful about it all :)

So tomorrow hopefully the GP nurse will understand what I want and give me the right jabs :) Thanks Nich :)

United KingdomLondon Medical on Monday the 18th...
It was painless :) I decided NOT to have the shots today - money is tight enough without paying extra, but the vaccinations lady (sorry, I don't know if she was a Dr or not) said it was fine to get them done at my GPs and have them email the results, and she will sign my vaccinations record off.

She gave me a letter to give to the nurse/doctor to explain things.

I have an appt with the nurse on Wednesday, which is when I was told my bloods come back anyway, so if I get the nurse to email knightsbridge on Weds after I have my shots I shouldn't have delayed it more than a day or two at most - I am STILL waiting on my lovely girl to send me the I-134 form (well no that's a lie she mailed it today) so I can't send in the DS-2001 just yet anyway.

NickNich - thanks a lot for your help, it was invaluable. I would have accepted the £60 shots then and there if I could have afforded it. Even if I do pay at my GPs I should be less. That £60 will go towards the train ticket next time I have to be in London - the bus was a total nightmare.

Thanks NN.

Got my Vaccination records form back from Knightsbridge, so I take it that they've forwarded my results to the Embassy now.

There's a few things on the form that confused me, but as far as I can tell I am good now for vaccinations.

I'm just about to mail in my DS-2001 - I notice it says send in form DS-230, but since they already have my DS-230, I won't send another. Or maybe I will, I haven't decided yet.

I hear two months can go by after sending in the '2001 before getting an interview, so bumping up is definitely something I will consider - I haven't booked airline tickets yet for me to fly out, and they are going to be SUPER expensive. I hope the cost of flights doesn't sink this whole thing ;)

I think a June wedding seems nice :innocent: :innocent: :innocent:

Actually, I have a question.

If our wedding is on August 13th, which it is, and I tell them on the DS-2001 that it's say, June 25th, if they ask me in the interview, I obviously have to stick to the June 25th date.

Will it cause any issues to bump the date up on the form?
