My vent for today! I can't seem to get a decent sleep now a days! This shift work is sure taking its toll on me! Only 3 months left...... I just got off a 5 night rotation and I am exhausted...the 4 days I had off prior did not feel like any days off as I had so much to do with wedding planning! Now that I am on days off again I can't even relax! Woke up @ 4:30 am and could not fall back asleep! Fell asleep @ 12 am. Was tired this afternoon, tried to nap, as soon as my head hit the pillow....wide AWAKE!

Just an overall horrible way to wake up in the middle of the night, mother nature has the worst way of suprising you! girlwerewolf2xn.gif

Oh you just reminded me of one of the most delightful wedding 'presentations' I have ever seen. They called for the Toast to the Bride and named the Best Man. He stood up, apologized profusely that he misunderstood - he thought he was supposed to 'roast' the bride, not 'toast' the bride, and put together a slide show to do that. Since he didn't have a toast prepared, he hoped everyone would understand and watch the show, since it was already done (that was a good intro too). He then proceeded to 'roast' the bride (and groom) through the slide show. He had gathered all sorts of photos of the happy couple from babyhood to adult hood that I am sure they thought had been thrown away (and probably were right afterwards) and were obviously provided by family members who were in cahoots with the Best Man. There was nothing mean or insensitive but there were some embarassing shots and some very candid shots! It was great - often hilarious - and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone - even the bride and groom.

That is cute! I am definitely putting some funny pictures in there of me and I am putting alot of my family members that will come to the wedding in some of the shots as well! I am going to have to convince my fiance to put a few embarassing shots in with his photos.

I knew Annie. I jumped at every chance to dog sit, because she was just that great of dog.

She originally belonged to my BF. After 2 years, Leahann and Adam had to give her away because Leahann's allergies were growing too severe. Leahann called one day to say that they had finally found her the perfect home in the country.
I saw on FB today that she was sad about the loss of Annie's life. I googled to see what she was talking about.

She was the sweetest dog. sad.gif

Ok...this is a vent so I can be a little off topic.

Today I get a phone call while at work. Our phone system has a different ring if it is an internal call vs outside call. It is an outside call. I am always a little bit surprised when someone from the outside calls me directly since in my job position I don't get phone calls. Normally it is just the person has called the wrong number and is looking for a different department.

I pick up the phone, and say Hello, this is M....and I am 100% freaked out by the voice on the other end of the phone.

Imagine the creepiest voice you can imagine...Hello M, it is your "uncle". I freak out and hang up the phone. I instantly recognized the voice.

The creep is a mentally disturbed individual who stole my identity, tried to run me over with his car, broke into my apartment and while in my apartment an altercation ensued. I was stabbed but was able to hold him, while my ex called the police. He was convicted and sentenced to jail. I moved from the Northeast USA to Hawaii. Get as far away as possible from this nut job. It has been 10 years - which was the length of his jail time. I guess his free and now I feel like I am being stalked.

Right now I am so freaked out, I can't concentrate on work.

Wow! Is there any way you could put a trace on the phone call? Where I work if the caller is abusive or won't identify themselves we trace it just in case anything happens from it. Totally different situation, with children but still! Is there any way to report him? If he just got out of jail, this guy is probably still on probation or something! Stay safe!

How could someone who has not had a ring in their belly button for 2 years all of a sudden look like the damn area was going to pop! That would have been painful! I never had an infection! Was it a granuloma? hmmmmmmm interesting.. I had a nose ring and after a few months (but not years) I had to take it out.. I made a mistake and had someone put it in that wasn't a pro.. *sigh..

What did they say was wrong?

Well the ER doc (he was so HOT, lol), anyways he said that it was not an infection, but I guess it was just "puss" buildup. I had one large "nodule on the top part where the old hole was and another one on the bottom. When I asked him how this could happen...never had any problems, no ring for 2 years. He just said "these things can happen." I also had a nose stud for almost 4 years, haven't had a problem with it since I took it out about 2 years ago as well. *knocks on wood*

Jeremy recieved a letter from NVC saying they transferring our case from Sydney to Montreal, when jurisdiction states I go to Vancouver (which is slightly faster anyways so thats where I want to be)

Called NVC talked to a lady who is convinced all visa cases go to Montreal. I try explaining to her what is stated on travel.state.gov and the Vancouver embassy web pages, and based on the information I received from Vancouver via e-mail. She still says sometimes Vancouver takes interviews but 95% of them go to Montreal. This is my angry point because I thought everything was getting fixed and now they're ###### it up again. I ask to speak to a supervisor. Then I get a Betsy she's nice but she doesn't know either and tells me to call back in two days.

CanadaImporting Vehicle
Depending on the year and condition of the vechile as well the van may or may not be EPA or DOT compliant. It may cost you more $$ to make it compliant than its actually worth. I think you have a certain amount of time after you import it to make it compliant? There may or may not be recalls as well, but Ford should pay for that. Maybe your family can drive the van down to Kansas and return it to Canada? So that you at least have a means of moving your belongings.

CanadaMedical Coverage in the US...
Whenever I would go to visit my fiancé(now hubby) I would get GMS of SK travellers insurance, even if just for a week. At that time my benefits were not effective with my job that gms would cover travel.

When I moved to the u.s.a I used www.sevencorners.com inbound immgirant medical insurance. I based it on vj Canada members using it, and also had no problems. It gave me peace of mind for the month and a half before my tricare benefits were effective after marriage. For the time I needed it, it was
around $100 for a single person.

Hope this helps,

.it is the government that made the "meet once in two years rule" not me...

So aren't they the ones passing judgement on potential immigrants there, in assuming that a couple can make a lifelong marriage commitment just in one short in-person meeting/visit in a long span of two years in between?

So if the government shouldn't decide, who should? I mean come on! You are talking about letting people in and out of your country and keeping your resident's safe.

Ant- You seem very judgmental of the government and at the end of the day, we elect the people who serve as our representatives. Every country in the world deals with immigration at a federal level. You can't expect immigrants to be the judges of themselves and their relationship or else it would be chaos.

They have to set standards and guidelines because that is what government's of the world do.

I agree that hardships can fall on us all, without a doubt! But i've also seen people abuse the system and spend their welfare cheques on candy instead of socks of their child. I think it all depends on what and who you are exposed to. I used to live in the most densely populated area in the United States where A LOT of people are on an array of government assistance. If someone's making almost as much money as I was working full time, but they are on welfare and benefits, then what is the incentive to go get a job? Even in a bad economy, there are jobs out there. My husband has a lot of restaurant employees who he hires to try and get them off the system in a way, but in a few weeks they don't like work so the stop showing up and it happens all over again.

I like the idea of social welfare; I don't like when people continuously drain it. They have made the system, specifically here in the US, to benefit the same people over and over again. If I lost my job all of a sudden tomorrow, and we were on one income and started to feel the pinch, I still wouldn't qualify for government benefits so I'd have to suffer through it even though we would be really tight money wise and I don't know if we'd make it. Just like how I didn't qualify for OSAP in Ontario but yet my parents didn't make enough money to live on and put me through university at the same time. So, I had to borrow from the bank at a high interest rate and begin paying it back the second I pulled the money out. I don't think the systems are set up in a way to help ALL people. I think there are limitations. So as a middle class tax payer, I pay large amounts into the system but if I fall hard on my luck (for me, what is "hard on my luck") I still don't qualify and what ever contributions I have made throughout my life thus far I'm never entitled to.

Right now in NJ, we have a problem with "Abbott School Districts" which were districts termed in the 80s. They get more funding because the schools are overall in poorer districts. Well, 30 years later, these districts that receive 2, 3, 4 times the money that the others do in New Jersey from the state still have the same graduation rate as they did before this all started. Nothing has really improved, even with additional funding. You can't throw money at a problem like education in poor areas. Many of the parents simply don't care and therefore, the child doesn't care. But yet I, as the tax payer, will keep putting in more than my fair share (as I have no children) and when I do have kids, it won't even really go to my children's district.

Any ways, that's way off topic. laughing.gif I hope none of you are offended by what I'm saying. I was always very liberal in Canada because I think generally, programs are run very proficiently and people get the help they need.

I feel COMPLETELY different here in the US, and maybe it's because of where I live...I really don't know. I have just seen SO many people take advantage of government assistance, which means they are taking advantage of me. Right now I'm working 10 hour days with a long commute...and the only assistance I would like is some SLEEP. laughing.gif

Ditto to what you said! good.gif

I have seen people abuse the cash benefits, its so sickening. I have also seen coworkers who did not want to accept a wage increase because it would put them over the edge for food stamp benefits for a family of 5. The wage increase was not substantial enough for them to be able to afford food on their own. Or those who work only part-time to keep themselves under the limits, purposely, even though they are more than able, so much for TANF working to get people OFF welfare!

The system is broken, the stupid part about all this is that the UI increase was intended to help those who have lost jobs due to this economy...now all it has done is hurt those who need food assistance in the form of a NON cash benefit. UGH!!

I feel like getting that bumper sticker that says "I work so that millions on welfare...." Only pertaining to the people who abuse it, not the ones who genuinely need it.

CanadaRaise in Unemployment Benifits makes some ineligable for food stamps
So an extra $25 a month in UI makes you ineligible for almost $300 worth of food stamps...absolutely ridiculous...Unfortunately its the fallout like the article said of Congress pushing through the Stimulus Package which had the increase in UI in there. I hope they can change the cap for food stamps as well. Its not like its an increase in a cash benefit, like TANF!! In this economy people need it so badly, its a basic necessity! Jobs are scarce! Most of the food stamp programs now are administered through cards, (like a debit or preloaded Visa or MC), so it takes away the demeaning aspect, except like Carla said you cannot use it on TP, toothpaste, sanitary products, maybe it has something to do with it being a program run by the USDA.

Now I have to drag my husband out this weekend to possibly buy icicle lights and show him the selection of "our first x mas ornaments" ( we already have one, but need one as a married couple. I never know what he's picky or not about.......lol. I can't do any home decorating without his approval. Heheh!

The hallmark ones are nice lil bit pricy but only gonna buy one special one a year to fill up our tree.

CanadaUS to Canada calling . . . Cell Phone Providers?
QUOTE (antdirt @ Aug 16 2009, 05:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
ALLTEL!!! 900 anytime minutes. 1000 night and weekend, no matter where you are or where you call in the USA or CANADA! ONLY!...$59.99! AND, texting costs nothing at all! Its totally free as if it were a US number! I checked all cell providers that service my area, and Alltel has them all beat I think!

I had AllTell the last time I lived in the U.S. they were not bad at all. Verizon nickel and dimes you for EVERYTHING, my fiance will not go back to them! He currently has AT&T which he is happy with and has an Iphone, he uses the Skype application to call Canada for long distance, a much better deal than using LD minutes. I would LOVE an iPhone too and we could get a family plan, but I am not sure I would use it to the full extent my fiance does, who knows, maybe given the opportunity I will become an iPhone addict too!! laughing.gif The cell phone coverage where we live in the Omaha metro is really crappy, we lose signal ALL the time, its so annoying, my fiance said something about how they are putting up a new tower soon, but we'll see, if they don't I will invest in a landline with an unlimited LD calling to Canada and Mexico, I think Qwest has one for $15 a month.
