CanadaGetting married in Canada

When I used to travel back and forth to visit, prior to beginning the CR1 process, I was often asked what I did for a living, my business address, when I was expected back at work and did I have any plans to work in the US!

I was always so nervous that we would get grilled at the border and they wouldn't allow me entry on my F1 visa when I travelled with my boyfriend (who was USC & now my hubby)returning to the US from visiting my family in Canada. We had plans to marry eventually just didn't know which route & when. US CBP alwyas asked us what we did and who we visited in Canada, I beleive one time they asked if we got married while in Canada.

I see where people are going with the immigrant intent, but let's be serious are they really going to be asking details about how you spent your days visiting? I highly doubt it.

The most ideal option is to cancel the trip and get married immediately and file AOS and then you'll for sure have status to travel back in August for the Canadian wedding. If you can get friends or family to meet with whoever needs to be met with now, and then go visit as soon as you are cleared to travel, it would be your best option.

But I think if you really wanted to go on the trip, get married right when you get back.

Anything can be asked I was just preparing the OP for
questions that may be asked.

I had border crossings with my then boyfriend returning to the US ( I was on a student visa)from Canada we were always asked what we did in Canada. They are looking for immigrant intent.

I realize that both of you want to go to Canada for the weddig prep. Is it viable that only one of you go?

If you wait until April to marry then I could see this scenario playing out in March upon rentering the US...Immigrant intent by the Canadian on TN...

What were you doing in Canada?... In which you could say you were visiting family..but definitely not the whole
truth, you were planning a wedding. Which would then make the guard ask which country the both of you planned to reside..visas..etc..

CanadaLooking to meet some girlfriends in Everett, WA and area

Hi everyone!

I am a 30 yo canadian woman, and I spend alot of time visiting in WA and I'm looking for women who are here visiting their spouses on a regular basis. As our visa isn't processed yet, I just come down a few weeks at a time. I like going for walks, I love animals, like going dancing once in a while, and like a good laugh. Love children but yet dont have any. Friends of all ages and countries are welcome to message me! I would just like friends who have a similar story to be able to hang out with once in a while, as I would like to be able to transition here and have some new friends with things in common. Thanks a bunch look forward to hearing from you all!

Cheers!

Alicia

CanadaCanadian Taxes!
When I was playing around with UFile in regards to my leaving Canada return
there was a section where it asks you if you want to claim the spousal amount for Canada & you would say no. It then asks a few more questions about spousal credits and you would say no as well. Then it asks for name,DOB & gross income. It didn't lower my refund or add to my taxable income by adding his gross US income but I had to put 000 000 000 for SIN #, because my husband has never had SIN only SSN.

I know. I have a pretty strong will power though. I am not going to buy another one after this. First of all, American cigarettes taste like a$$, and second of all, I am not paying 7.30 for 20 cigarettes again.

Srsly.

Oh and thirdly.. my health.

Gotta love my priorities.

Oh please do not buy another pack! rose.gif I wish my will power was as strong, I can't count how many times I have quit, with the longest being 4 months. I NEED to quit, I am sick of the taste, smell, stigma, and American cigarettes SUCK!!

Yea so last night when my husband came to bed he said: "I keep smelling cigarettes! It's really weird!"

I have been smoking on the balcony and like I said, I haven't really been smoking a lot. But I guess the stench sticks, so I just played stupid.

And then this morning.. STUPID me put a cigarette out in the planter yesterday and he was watering the plants and was like: "What is this??"

laughing.gif

I played even more dumb and was like: "Oh... maybe the guy downstairs threw it up to our balcony and it landed there!"

He didn't question me any further and I HATE lying so on the way to work I said goodbye and threw them away... after I had one more of course.

laughing.gif Good for you! My fiance hates that I smoke, mostly because his parents do. Sometimes the temptation is ridiculous, I am going to have to cut out any forms of coffee and alcohol, they just go too good together!

I was suprised at the dresses offered by DB, they are very affordable! I spent weeks trying on dresses here in Canada and couldn't find anything I liked. Saw this one on DB website and I knew it was "the" dress. I didn't even try any other dresses on while I was at DB!! We are having our church/legal wedding and reception October 10th, 2009!! EEeek!! I've had back issues ever since I was a teenager, I have a right leg that is shorter, so that makes my hips inbalanced along with my back, my arches are not the same, in fact have gotten worse! orthotics are expensive, but I finally caved and got them,(with insurance) was so sick of wearing heel lifts! My feet are going to thank me when they come in!

Sounds like a migraine. I remember having those in high school (I still get them now) and being able to hear what was said in OTHER classrooms. On one hand, that was awesome. On the other hand... it really sucked since my head was killing me and now I had to listen to TWO teachers drone on.

what kinda car is it? and if she won't pony up the money or commit, sell them.

It's a 2001 BMW 330Ci with around 25,000 miles on it. I bought it in 2001, but eight years later, it's having a few issues.

I could sell it, but I doubt I'd make much on it. Unless a cars is very rare and highly sought after, they always depreciate in value.

i was asking minnew about the car the tires go to blush.gif

The tires are 195/60/14..I think..They will fit a Chevrolet Aveo (what I drive) or Pontiac Wave for sure.

We had Princess Auto in Ontario - it actually had a really good range of supplies, but then we always had pretty straightforward to fix cars too. Definitely worth a try. Good luck.

Is there any way you can order windshield wipers and other things like that online?

I think I can. It'd be great if I can get the wipers online. BMW just charges way too much.

DIFFERENT RANT:
I stopped in a Rogers Video store today and it looked nice. Lots of good deals on video games (both to buy and rent) and their selection was incredible.

However... they had numerous signs and posters up that said the following: "No late fees if you rent three 7-day videos for $15."

Okay, so that sounds good, right? I checked with the staff about that and here's how that conversation went:

[DEADPOOLX] "So how does that plan work? No late fees and all."

[ROGERS VIDEO EMPLOYEE] "You get to rent three DVDs at $15 for a week."

[DPX] "Okay, so if I return them late, there are no late fees, right?"

[RVE] "If you return the videos within seven days, then there are no late fees."

[DPX] "Wait... if I return the videos before they're due there wouldn't be any late fees anyway!"

[RVE] "Yes, that's right. If you return them within seven days, no late fees are applied."

[DPX] "Yeah, I got that. But how is that any different from returning the videos before they're due?"

[RVE] "It's not."

[DPX] "So why advertise 'no late fees' then?"

[RVE] "Because you won't get any if you return them within seven days."

[DPX] "And if I didn't return them within seven days...?"

[RVE] "You'd get charged $1 every day you've had them out beyond the due date."

[DPX] "Then late fees exist."

[RVE] "Yes, if the videos are overdue."

[DPX] "But your store claims there are no late fees!"

[RVE] "Only if you return them on time."

At that point I was about ready to snap. Does any of that make sense? It's obvious that if you return a DVD before it's due that you won't have any late fee charges. When a store advertises "no late fees" any normal person would read that as, "there are no late fees if you're overdue." Apparently Rogers Video likes stating the obvious while pretending they're offering something unique to the customer.

I had that same experience with Rogers Video! laughing.gif I'm like, then your advertising is incorrect and misleading....there IS late fees. The teenaged acne covered kid in the store was like, well I don't come up with it! Duh! No kidding brainiac!!!

I'm sorry DeadpoolX rose.gif , cars always have the worst timing for having problems! I know all too well!!

Why the heck to people have to beat around the bush?!?!?!? Can't they just come out and tell you instead of being a b$tch about it. She wouldn't even have a conversation with me, the tension felt like you could cut it with a knife!!

I have this co-worker who was a practicum student, now a summer student at my job, we have the exact same vechile except hers is a pontiac, they would fit her car perfectly. I am selling my winter tires because I will not be taking them with me when I move due to lack of space. I've had an ad listed for the past 4 months on kijii and the union website, no takers. I thought I would be nice and ask her if she was interested in any winter tires, before spending the $$ to put a newspaper ad. She said she would think about it and let me know, she wants winter tires but it would come down to whether she could afford them or not and may not be able to do 1 payment. I said, we will work it out, even if you can't pay in 1 payment.

I come on shift yesterday first one in 5 days and I say hello and she ignores me, just a weak...if that smile. Same thing today. I finally ask her while she's in the staff office at the same time as me if she was still thinking/interested, it had been a week since I last saw her. (Big sigh as if annoyed I asked).....Well I am interested I just don't know if I can afford them. I said "Well let me know either way, for sure, I need to sell them." No response. I run into her before I am leaving work, while she was coming back into the building with a kid, and she practically rolls her frickin eyes at me!!! mad.gif

I'm not asking her to spill her guts about her $$ for god sakes, just have the common decency to let me know as I asked her for a decision by this week when I came on shift and if to move on to another form of selling!! Ugh!! mad.gif headbonk.gif

It does depend on the province you live in, the doctors and services that are available. The experiences can differ greatly. I can't tell you how many stories I have heard of delayed diagnosis, or months of waiting time for surgery, rarer are the ones that actually spend the $$$ to travel to the U.S. Trying to find a family doctor that will actually see you, because their caseload is so huge they are not accepting any more patients, there are long waiting lists just for general care. Just because you don't know someone or haven't experienced it for yourself, does not mean its not happening.
Unfortunately one of my friends who was a Canadian and studying in the U.S. with me needed to get an MRI because of disk problems in her back. Granted not an emergency like heart conditions or trying to get cancer diagnosed, but I have heard those too where it takes months just to get diagnosed, her back issues were causing her so much pain. She was from SK, with no insurance in the U.S. besides extended health care plan through GMS in SK for students studying outside of SK. The doctor in SK had told her its going to be 6 months for an MRI, and alot longer just to have surgery. They looked into SK Health paying for the MRI in the U.S. because she was still a SK resident-temporarily studying and I believe SK did pay for it, and she had her MRI within 2 weeks.

I have a "friend" who I just feel needs to be purged from my life. She's constantly putting down my husband and she's constantly calling him names. I will talk about something good and she'll turn it into something bad. She's a frenemy. I have come to that conclusion.

She dropped out of my wedding when she found out I wasn't buying her dress. She's just done a lot of stuff that a real friend wouldn't do.

My husband is also pretty sure this girl linked my MIL to the threads here. She has done some shady things in the past. We can't prove she did it but all signs would point to yes.

I have just had enough. I feel like I can't be happy about anything around her. We had fun maybe 4 years ago, but since then things have changed. I just feel it's time to cut her loose yanno? But I mean I usually just stop talking to someone who I want to cut loose, but I feel like I should at least give her an explanation.. and yet at the same time I don't even think its worth it. I have so many other things going on right now. She's moving to Texas to go to grad school... it's not like I'll even have to deal with her much. Sadly, I think I have vented about this person before.

And I mean she puts down everyone. She puts down every friend I have even if she hasn't met them. She puts down where I live. EVERYTHING that I am remotely happy about she makes me feel like absolute ####### about.

Definitely time to cut her loose...but it sounds like it won't be too hard as she will be moving to Texas...you will drift away and that will be the end of it! It's sad but friends drift away, you think they won't but real friends will last a lifetime.

I'm not sure what EAP is, Krikit, but I'm sure we have all kinds of stuff on a university campus.

Employee Assistance Program, where they will cover the cost of counselling sessions.

I think it's completely reasonable to expect that someone doing a job should be able to communicate with those people whom they will serve. Whether it's a job at the government or in private industry, if you can't communicate with your vendors or clients, you can't do your job.

I completely agree,if someone is in the customer service industry and can't serve their customers because of a lack of ability to communicate, well then thats a problem. My fiances father was in a similar situation as you, not in an apartment complex, but in a customer service oriented atmosphere but the person basically said I speak Spanish and had no comprehendable English, definitely not enough to do his job. Yes some of it is the employers who need to be bashed, and one cannot say whether he or she is "refusing" to speak English. Refusing to learn English is one thing, still learning is another.

I'm just getting really frustrated.

Call 2 different Canada border places, the info place (where the woman was very nice and well informed) who says we can just say our vehicle is 'to follow' for importing and import it when we get to Calgary and the guy at the border (also very nice) who says no, you need to import it at the border.

The snippy U.S. border person who didn't like me asking how we access U.S. customs on our way in to Canada (I prefaced it by saying it was a dumb question!)

And this is just great - you cannot import your own bed back in to Canada unless you have a certificate saying it has been cleaned and fumigated.

I have definitely had that experience, they are definitely not the most friendly people to call! The runaround I had to do to get my car exported back to Canada... wacko.gif I have never heard of beds not being able to be imported... ohmy.gif

Well from what I am reading elsewhere they don't have to be fumigated - whatever! Although the woman who told me that also told me that we could import our car once we got to Calgary - whatever!

Minnew - you exported your car back? Did you do that at the border or after you arrived in Canada?

Yup I had to temp import it to the US due to no longer being a college student in the USA, I was on OPT, but still on F-1.....grrrr... I had to fax the US border the ownership and registration information 72 hours before I planned to export it from the US back to Canada. I can't remember what the process was for the Canadian side of things...importing it back to Canada, it was pretty simple from what I remember, the car was purchased in Canada though. Oh and I went through North Portal, ND.

I've never contributed here, but hopefully no one will mind an out of the blue rant...

This isn't just about Ben... though, heh, it is what sparks the need to rent... but about people like this in general.

It bothers me to no end that people are so quick to draw on "other options" when they're having a bad day. Oh, the phone company is being stupid this month, let's switch. Oh, nothing seemed to go right at work today, maybe I should look into another career. Oh, the cat messed the floor, so I never want us to get a cat. People on WoW are such idiots, let's quit and play LotR.. headbonk.gif

These people will flame and rant and moan about whatever situation is currently occurring, or occurred throughout the day, and will immediately begin to discuss other options to fix the "ongoing situation". GUESS WHAT?! It's not an ongoing situation. You had a bad day. Chill out!

Day two (following said situation/rant/whathaveyou), when asked about whatever option it was resolved upon was best (for an nonexistent ongoing issue, of course), the entire conversation is FLUFFED OFF by the individual who started it!

And goodness knows, I come home from work with a rant or two occasionally, but if I rant, it's going to be a rant... a loooooong bout of nonsense and bitching and moaning... not contingency plans because I had a bad day.

So anyhow, to sum up said rant: Is it really that terrible of me not to want to contribute my sincerest thinking abilities to conversations such as these when I know that it will have little to no bearing on how I go about my day following it?

(See what I meant about nonsense...)

blink.gif Now that's a rant!

Just frickin lovely! mad.gif No wonder I was feeling like ####### the past 2 days, only had chills and a bit of nausea and vomiting, last night wasn't sure which end it was gonna come out of! I hope you guys are feeling better! I am starting to, not 100%. I think it was those kiddos I was working with, snotty noses and all, my co worker last weekend had the same symptoms as me. Now I am just waiting for the cold-like symptoms that she already had... mad.gif

Someone came onto the property early this morning with their dog and it got into a fight with our dog Dale. I was asleep and heard a huge commotion between two dogs and a guy yelling. I just assumed it was the neighbors house and tried to go back to bed. Got up and Dale's ear is torn up and there is blood on the driveway outside. Jackazz didn't even have the courtesy to come to the door and say, hey our dogs got into a fight while I was trespassing. mad.gif

We live on a gated and fenced property and that only way in is to open the front gate with the huge sign saying NO TRESPASSING.

MrsCat is going to have to start manning the gate!

That's horrible! ohmy.gif I hope your dog is okay!

Uggh...I think I am getting sick....again! A few hours before I went to work last night my stomach was in knots. By 5 am I was in and out of the bathroom at work vomiting and getting chills. My supervisor found a replacement by 8 am, missed out on 4 hours of work and averaging OT. headbonk.gif I have a splitting headache headbonk.gif and stomach is in knots again! Must have been the little kids I worked with this past week! Every time I don't work with the teenagers! I get sick!! I really hate using sick time, but I will be worse off if I don't! girlwerewolf2xn.gif

I am definitely taking my pics down now, too creepy! My FB privacy settings are so that ONLY friends can view and post in my profile, and I think only friends can view my friends list, but I am really not sure. I will be talking to my dad about his FB page and remind him to make it private.

I just got off a 5 night rotation and I am exhausted...the 4 days I had off prior did not feel like any days off as I had so much to do with wedding planning! Now that I am on days off again I can't even relax! Woke up @ 4:30 am and could not fall back asleep! Fell asleep @ 12 am. try taking 5HTP, extra calcium and magnesium and valerian. You can take all together and they definitely help with sleep issues.
