I grew up in PA and was a safe city! Going back there to visit the past few yrs, just don't have that safe feeling! I wont say why, as I may not word my words in away that wont sound offensive--which is not my intentions!! And in reality, i don't put the blame on that ethnicity, more of the blame towards the govt as their solution is just to throw $$$ at the problem and just stick their heads in the sand and not educate anyone!!

Yeah last time I went through there I did not want to get out of the car. I am sure it used to be a safer city, but its not that way anymore thats for sure.

Due to the all the kitty talk in a another thread, just thought I'd share.... My co worker raises lynxs, wild cats! He currently has a baby lynx that he is raising that is 6 weeks old and almost the size of a regular full grown domestic cat! He has one other cat, who is a male that is a full grown adult lynx. Anyways, he has been bringing the cat to work and keeping it in the basement, with directors approval as it is just like any other baby it needs to be fed every 3-4 hours. (He is a bachelor, no one else to take care of it during the night). Good thing he clips her nails as she was having a grand time pawing and biting at people this morning who were handling her. I was not one of them though, afterall it is a wild animal! The cat is very cute, don't get me wrong but I will only handle domestic cats, even though I am pretty allergic to them!

Haha. Yeah, I'm not too worried about her. She's not in a high risk category. I did have a relative die about 10 years ago from complications of the flu. He was in his forties, but he wasn't altogether healthy to begin with. But a bad one sure can drain you. I remember being so sick, once, that I actually wanted to die. laughing.gif

Swine flu is definitely going around my workplace, I am just waiting to get the full effects, esp after how I was feeling last weekend. I keep hearing its better to have it now, than get the swine flu in the fall as it will be worse.
My fiance's brother has been quarantined in military basic training and did not graduate because he is so sick, hooked up to IV's and all. Before he left for basic he was sick and unfortunately only got worse as some of his comrades also got quarantined due to the H1N1. I wondering if its possible he had the H1N1 before he left 6 weeks ago, I am suprised he made it through this far if he did. Scary stuff.

Here ya go! ( I can't find a part that sounds like upsetting cows, I had to check. I love this song!)

The Proclaimers

I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) Lyrics

When I wake up yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who wakes up next to you
When I go out yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you

If I get drunk yes I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who gets drunk next to you
And if I haver yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's havering to you

But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man who walked 1000 miles
To fall down at your door

When I'm working yes I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's working hard for you
And when the money comes in for the work I'll do
I'll pass almost every penny on to you

When I come home yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who comes back home to you
And if I grow old well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's growing old with you

But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man who walked 1000 miles
To fall down at your door

When I'm lonely yes I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man whose lonely without you
When I'm dreaming yes I know I'm gonna dream
Dream about the time when I'm with you.

But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man who walked 1000 miles
To fall down at your door

This song brings tears to my eyes crying.gif My fiance and I have always loved this song and I think it describes our relationship quite well. God I miss him so much! Yes its him that is being reviewed, he has to gain a higher level of clearance due to a change in his job. You could say it is routine, because even if he maintained the clearance he has now, I would assume at some point it would need to be updated and reviewed. He first asked his supervisors about it, almost 2 years ago and they told him he may have to get a letter of permission, but his commander did not write one as he believed it was not needed. He is active duty AF.

Carla! helpsmilie.gif

I have heard that if you are a contractor it takes alot longer to get the clearance and they are more stringent with the requirements. I guess if there is any issues, he will be taking it up with his supervisors and commander, with hope that it can get sorted out. Before we were engaged and talking about marriage he spoke with his commander to be sure marrying a "foreign national" would not cause any issues with his job. He was told it would not. At least I hope not. unsure.gif

That's probably what happened. They weren't sure which address was correct. Why is his clearance review (?) being held up by DHS?

I have no idea, all he was told was that there was a DHS investigation....He told me to be prepared to get a phone call from the investigators who do the clearance reviews..I wonder if they are AF or not..anyways...they will call his family and friends as well. It probably doesn't help that its a higher level clearance hes reviewing for, but his commander told him that marrying a '"foreign national" should not be an issue. At least I hope not...The worry wart inside of me is hoping it does not cause unneccesary delays when it comes to AOS, even if the review is done by then.

The fiance and I just bought a new TV, its pretty snazzy and jumbo sized... If you're going to do it, do it right... right? laughing.gif

That's what I always say...laughing.gif

I have to share this!
I had posted my Vancouver Consulate experience in the same thread I started about getting my visa. In case you missed it, the woman, Hong, asked what Tim did and I told her he was a retired jeweler. So she asked if he knew where she could find real coral earrings!! She lost one of hers. *Um...m'am?? Could I get approved??*

So, the next day when I went back, I gave her Tim's email, and a note to say he'd be willing to help her out and probably make some. She just emailed him this weekend!! laughing.gif She sounds very nice even in her emails. Asked him how his July 4th weekend was etc, and described the earrings she was looking for.
Tim emailed her back, and said that because of the weekend stores would be closed but he'd look into it as soon as he could. He also thanked her for approving my visa and that we are excited about our upcoming marriage. She emailed back, with a little more detail of what she would like, and stated that she felt that we were really blessed to find each other. Wow!! Wonder if she could be a reference during our AOS!! laughing.gif

Actually, I think she approved me because I had an in with a jeweler that could solve her missing earrings. Too funny!! Bet emails between Consulars and petitioners don't happen too often.

I had Hong too for my interview!

Speaking of which.....a question for you all!! Has anyone ever heard of Consulates calling the petitioner?

I had to ask my fiance 10x because I thought he was pulling my leg...He said that last week a woman from the U.S. Consulate in Vancouver called him to confirm his address. I guess she asked if we have gotten married yet and if that was the address that I planned on moving to. He told the woman we are getting married in October and confirmed the address. She said good luck with the wedding and that was it! unsure.gif

I have never heard of that before!! Are they doing audits of files or what? unsure.gif

If thats not the case, then I am assuming it has to do with his review for TS clearance.

Ok, we just got back from a really fun time at Karen and Joel's place in the Georgia mountains. Their new (ok, not so new anymore but still newish) house is really nice. They have a terrific property - lots of land with a bit of a treed area at the side and a pasture behind so they won't have to put up with crowding neighbours. Joe's parents were visiting from Nova Scotia and brought down some lobster and scallops with them so we had a lobster dip with the chips and then scallops wrapped with bacon and grilled along with lots of other good food finished off with Tim Horton's coffee. Joe got to taste Molsen's Canadian beer as well. Joel had made some video collages of various Canadian tv shows and commercials so we watched segments of the Beachcombers, This Hour has 22 minutes, Royal Canadian Air Farce, hockey cartoons - and Tim Horton and I AM Canadian commercials including some I hadn't seen before. I haven't laughed that much in a long time! One of their friends even made a peanut butter chocolate cheesecake and decorated it with a red maple leaf to help celebrate an early "Canada Day'. It wasn't too bad of a drive - a little over 100 miles - but it was all highway except for the last little bit and traffic was only bad in two sections so we made good time. Thanks Karen and Joel for the invitation. We had a great time.

That sounds so fun! Are Karen and Joel VJers? unsure.gif

no0pb.gif Absolutely horrible! At least it sounds like your fiance understands the situation and does not agree with his mother. Absolutely ridiculous. The way she is treating you now and your family will set the precedence for every family gathering and expectations, same thing with weddings (I am find this out through planning ours), you have to stand as a united front or else one of you gets blamed or singled out.
