CanadaArmed American Crosses Border Illegally on a Bicycle

People aren't very smart!

Nope! Guess we got to worry about the northern border too!

What was he planning to do with a handgun, rifle and an axe? I hope they publish it when they find out.

CanadaArmed American Crosses Border Illegally on a Bicycle
 My dad just sent me this story:

http://www.leaderpos...9452/story.html

REGINA — A firearm-toting American was arrested Wednesday in southeastern Saskatchewan after illegally crossing the border on a bicycle.

The RCMP received a call of a suspicious male in the Bromhead area, approximately 34 kilometres from the border and about 58 kilometres from Estevan.

When RCMP officers apprehended the 41-year-old they discovered he was carrying a .22-calibre handgun in his pocket and a .22-calibre rifle in his hiking-style backpack, along with an axe.

Sgt. Derryl Milo said the man is from Missouri and has no fixed address, adding that the backpack was filled with clothing and it appeared he'd been travelling.

Police have yet to determine why the wanderer was over 1,300 kilometres from his home state.

"It's interesting, but I can't speculate on this more," Milo said.

The man is facing numerous firearms and customs act charges. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Estevan Provincial Court on Monday.

CanadaT4 - former canadian employer refusing to send it.
My 2nd last employer in Canada never issued me an ROE... Whether they sent it to EI Canada who knows...I didn't ask. When I called government of canada about it they said "if you aren't applying for EI, you don't need a copy"... I'm like well that's besides the point they never gave me one & "what if" in 2008 I would have needed the ROE, I wanted it for my records as well. They told me to try contacting the employer first & if I had no success in my efforts to call them back. I have worked fast food, call centre & hotel jobs years ago that all supplied me with a ROE.

CanadaFor those who have been in the U.S. for awhile...

I put on about 6 pounds but I dont seem to be gainning more, for a while we ate quite a bit of fast food but now im cooking more and buying veggies and trying to cook healthier things cus we cant aford to eat out so much, im hoping i will start to lose some of the weight. ( my mom says its happiness weight, when your happy you gain a bit of weight? lol)

I got my green card DEC 3rd. I havent found work yet, applied to a bunch of retail as well as other jobs no calls for interviews. I have to stop looking for work for a while because I may need outpatient surgery which will give me a 1 month recovery. Yuck.

As for being home sick.. not really at all. I havent cried, I dont really miss anything cept for going to timmys lol.. I do miss being able to hang out with my few good friends but they chat on msn with me a lot. Being a military wife is VERY difficult to make friends. Very high percentage of the other wifes are unfaithfull which I wont have anything to do with thos people, and most of the rest of them are way too young and accidentally got pregnant so had to get married.

Minnew and I talk a lot and hang out sometimes tho! hehe thanks to Vj I have one good canadian friend here =)

Hehe! :) I haven't been homesick too much, there are times though that I miss the ability to call up
one of my friends back home & go for coffee, but MSN & phone calls make up for that, but it's not the same.

Yes I do agree that it's hard to make friends as a military spouse, thank goodness we are NORMAL! LoL! (it's because we are canadian) It's really disheartening & disgusting to hear of the infedility :(. But sometime it's an "agreement" by each partner to not be monogamous... Ugh! So gross!

Thank goodness for VJ!:)

CanadaFor those who have been in the U.S. for awhile...
Just wanted to add that I was on a K-1 visa so it took about 2 months to get my EAD, then another almost 3 months to find a job, so 5 months in total I guess. The major dietary changes part, at first I lost a bit of weight but I think that was due to stress of the wedding planning (was afraid i lost too much to fit into my dress! eep!!) ..etc..then after the wedding the AOS. After the AOS was submitted I have gradually gained about 5 pounds just due to inactivity of not working and not wanting to dig my car out of the snow to go to the gym.. Also, my husband LOVES to eat all the BAD stuff that tastes soooo good!If pizza was a food group...

CanadaApplied for AOS with criminal record

Please fill in your timeline.

I believe, and some other person with more experience (and legal background) than me, that the I-485 is relating to crimes IN THE US that have happened SINCE you have been here... Am I wrong in this?

The instructions in the 485 say if you have been arrested by ANY law enforcement officer. I am not sure if the OP came on K1 or tourist visa, but if it was K1 the criminal history would have to be disclosed for the interview. It is definitely not impossible to get approved at the consular or uscis level BUT one has to be honest about it. Even if the record has been "expunged" it is my understanding that USCIS wants to know about it. It's the same thing at the border if they ask you if you've ever been arrested or have criminal infractions... Even if it happened as a juvenile you are to disclose it.
minnewFemaleCanada2010-03-10 18:49:00
CanadaTaxes
As far as I understand it... If you had no other Canadian income in 2009 you do not have to file a Canadian return. The Ei you received when you were a NR had the NR tax 25% taken out and that is your last tax obligation to Canada. You can file a NR Canadian tax return electing under 216 or 217.... Not sure which... To get a refund on some or all of the NR withheld, but it is my understanding you do not HAVE to.

It will be this way for me in 2010... No CAN income other than EI.

I'm trying to think of a VJ member that has done this.... I think Flames?

CanadaIs it an AMERICAN thing???
It's definitely not just a southern thing and definitely not just rural. I've lived in two states in the Midwest and never outside city limits.

Not just the kids or clients call each their caregivers "miss" or "mr" but I've seen it where coworkers call each other, I guess it's a better way than just yelling your name when they need you! LOL!
minnewFemaleCanada2010-04-04 10:25:00
CanadaIs it an AMERICAN thing???
My last job in the US before I moved back to Canada to wait out k-1, I was always called "miss" (insert name). I haven't been called that yet, but two of my co workers are referred to as mr. & miss. I think it's part of the job where I work because the kids cannot call their teachers by their first name, it's disrespectful. So some just use miss ( first name) in referring to their care worker.

OMG, I almost forgot! I had a VJ dream last night! rofl.gif

Let's see if I can remember. I know it had Sprailenes and her son and her husband. And a bunch of other Canadian VJers, but I can't remember who. I think maybe it was Treble and Trailmix and Carla and the usual gang. I was trying to get to the train station to go and see someone I love but whom I haven't seen in years. It was quite important and I was worried I would miss them. But first we all had to go and stay in an underground building. blink.gif I needed to go to the bathroom but all of the bathrooms had windows around them and weren't private. Plus they weren't very clean so I refused to use them. At one point I found some blinds and draperies and was covering the windows, and then I started cleaning the bathroom. I think I asked Sprailenes if I could come and stay with her (in her room at the underground inn) and she was very nice about it. What a stupid dream. laughing.gif

CanadaI dream of VJ
I had a dream that there was a VJ Canada meet-up, it was about a week and a half ago, so some of it I have forgotten, I should have posted it right away, but I think my first thought was....what was THAT?!?! You know you spend too much time on VJ when.....

But seriously though VJ and VJ Canada has been an absolute lifesaver for me during this entire process, even before I joined and was just a lurker. It certainly has helped me through these past 8 months especially while going through the process, I really do not know where I'd be without it. rose.gif

So.....the dream....I am going to apologize now for the images and if I have left anybody out, most of the people represented were the regular posters. My memory is fizzling about what actually happened and what was said, but these parts I do remember. I am a horrible writer so I also apologize.

It was like a backyard BBQ, I have no idea what state or who's house it was, but it was at dusk and there was a wood fire going in the backyard. I remember walking in and saying hello to people like Sprailenes, JillA, poprocks and thetreble. Sprailenes was dressed in her wedding dress with her son(at one time must have been her avatar), JillA was with her husband, poprocks was also with her husband and thetreble had her 2 dogs with her and they were running around the yard playing with Sprailenes son. SapphireDreams was also there with her husband, and she had a red clown nose (from her old avatar) LOL. There was also lawn bowling going on, but I cannot remember who was playing. There was probably about 50 people at the meetup. Carla was in the corner of the yard brewing coffee and talking with Trailmix. For some I couldn't see trailmix's face, but she had brown hair and was eating....trailmix(party mix). LOL. MrsCat was also in the corner talking to Carla, trailmix and Krikit, and it looked like she had a cat mask on (costume). LOL. Krikit, oh dear, she's never going to forgive me for this one...She looked like Peggy from the show Married with Children, did not talk or act like her, but the clothes were alike and she was very tall, had bright red hair like Reba and was it in a tousled updo.

So that's all folks! That's all I can remember of it!!

Hope you enjoyed it!

CanadaHow long is too long for packet 4, K1 Vancouver
I called DOS two days after faxing back the checklist to Vancouver and DOS was able to confirm my interview date. It took almost two weeks to get the actual letter in the mail though.

And there is nothing wrong with wanting to get the interview squared away sooner than later! Always plan for the worst but hope for the best. It gives you a little bit of leeway especially if you have a wedding date planned and I was scared of AP. I waited about 4 months to POE after I got the visa for wedding date & professional reasons.

QUOTE (July09Bride @ May 1 2009, 05:58 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Okay, so my fiance' and I own (all in my name) a timeshare in Orlando. I JUST got a call from a salesperson wanting us to convert from weeks to points... which we both would love to do! But, again, you've got to drop some cash on the spot, as everything with real estate has fees (kinda like the US Gov't.).

I tried to politely explain that I appreciated her taking the time to call my cell phone after calling my home phone and not reaching anyone, but, there was no way in which we'd be able to afford to convert to points at this time. We have zero extra cash. We're planning a wedding AND going through immigration. We have zero extra cash. Did I mention zero extra cash??

Anyway, she kept badgering me about this opportunity how they dropped the minimum rates and requirements, etc. and I told her that as much as we would like to do this, we can't because we have zero extra cash. She said something about perhaps using savings or credit cards (and yes, she was serious!) to do this. Then I basically lost it... although I was still trying very, very hard to be polite while losing it with her. no0pb.gif

I told her that the the wedding monies alone were more than we could currently handle due to the costs of immigration, and I shared with her that as of right now, we've sunk almost $3,000 or $4,000 in the immigration process, and we're still not done. Then, she said the most ignorant things I think I've ever heard. "Are you sure it is that expensive? I just can't believe it would be that expensive! Have you really researched this? There's no way it can be that costly. You need to hire a lawyer to mak sure you're doing this right because you shouldn't be paying that much... it's only Canada, for crying out loud." rofl.gif

By that time, I was laughing because I was so unbelievably annoyed at her ignorance! She kept saying that she was from Ohio and she can't believe that anything like immigration would cost anything. All because she would go visit Canada all the time. REALLY??? Are you kidding me??? SERIOUSLY??? wow.gif She just kept going on and on and on.... Then, when I told her we started with an attorney, she said that the attorney must not be doing their job if we had to fork out so much money. blink.gif

So, as if that wasn't enough, she continued to "run the numbers" even though I told her that no matter how the numbers come out, we weren't going to do it. No matter what. We have zero extra cash. Then, by the end of the phone call (thank GOD!!!) she said something along the lines of well, I guess you're not going to do this, are you. Yea, brainiac... good call. I could have saved her all that time and she could have moved on to another client if she just would have listened to me in the first few moments of the call. In addition, I could have saved myself the agony of listening to her get "Personally bothered that someone is getting taken like this." Yeah, she said that - word for word. good.gif

OMG... what a dumba$$. headbonk.gif But, then again, had it not happened, I'm not sure I'd have as good of a story to make people who understand the process laugh! laughing.gif

WOW! headbonk.gif What a pushy saleslady! I understand the economy isn't great right now, but sheesh!

Its been a while since I vented so here we go.......

Maybe I should just list them in numbers....lol

Got a mild concussion during training at work (i was the teenager) being restrained and the two "employees" were supposed to break my fall....my head hit the mat pretty hard. Workers comp paperwork, trip the doctor....the next week I start feeling shortness of breath and dizzy.....ER hospital visit with CT scan....no problems except sinus cavities FULL! "chronic sinusitis"

Doctor follow up yesterday....prescribed me allergy meds....forgot to say i preferred non-drowsy (I have damn job!!) Forgot to ask for a release to finish my physical part of TCI due to the mild concussion. Feel very tired and trying to study for my self paced med transcription course is hell on wheels when you are drowsy!! My bathroom is now a pharmacy!!

Have an allergy test at the end of the month....I CANNOT take ALLERGY MEDS for SEVEN days prior to the test! :crying: Oh boy that is going to be a dreadful week!! I have never had allergy problems like this until moving to the USA! Some of it may be from the puppy we got in October...I hope not:(

Work is well....going good just when I am on my last day of 4 I am completely burnt! I can't deal...I've listened and had to play damage control at work enough that more emotional stuff is too much! Friends marital problems when the SO is overseas really tough.

Most of all I just want my hubby home!! :crying: Not getting to talk to him enough (2x week??) because of our work schedules & time zone diff is really sucking! Skype and IM....gosh I feel like I am in the middle of an immigration process again! But at least then I got to talk to him almost everyday!

Thank you for listening...

Which brings me to my second vent.... Found out this morning that I got SCREWED OVER by the employer I was going to work for! They called me last week to offer the position... Telemarketers have become a lot more pushy.

One just called from ADT security asked for my husband, I said he wasn't here. They asked if there was another decision maker in the house, and I asked what it was about. They said ADT security, I said I wasn't interested, thanked them and hung up. Then she calls back.

Really?

She asks for my husband again. I said: "He wasn't here 5 seconds ago and he still isn't here, we're not interested" and she says: "I don't want to speak to you, I want to speak to Mike."

So I said: "B1tch I don't want to speak to you either, I want to talk to your supervisor"

She hung up.

Hot damn! Wow that's pushy!

I had a telemarketer call me yesterday..... I hate companies that when you buy somethig from them they give your info to someone else...

He calls and says oh yes your shipment should arrive next week... Them starts rambling so fast I could barely understand him.... Sounded more like an auctioneer! LoL!

In addition she has been doing all she can to make me feel guilty that I am taking her beloved brother from Canada from her (she lives 6 hours away and NEVER visits because of her and her husband's finances) and she has been telling her brother (my fiance') "You will never find a job in the U.S. We don't want you to be worrying about where your mortgage payment will come from or how you will keep the heat turned on." UGH! Go away, woman! My fiance' and I made a decision and put down money on the adventure (i.e. we paid for the k-1 visa petition).

Now on to my biggest VENT: PEOPLE WHO ASK WHY I NEED A VISA TO GET MARRIED AND WHY I CAN'T JUST GET MARRIED NOW! I don't want to be separated from my husband (when we get married).

The last couple of weeks people have been pressing me for "the date" of the wedding so they can make their summer vacation/holiday plans. Trying to explain to them the process is useless. They don't get it. There are several that keep saying, "Why don't you just get married when he comes down to visit next?" They don't understand that if we did that, it is a different visa, he would have to go back to Canada (because he needs to work until the visa is approved and he can permanently stay in the U.S.), and IT IS ANOTHER VISA FEE! In just a few months, I will be able to tell them when our Montreal interview is and even then my fiance' will need to wait for his passport to be mailed back with visa stamp. All our planning is based on the "hope" that he gets an interview in May or June at least 3 weeks before our "proposed" wedding date of July 11, 2010. Why can't people just back off!

What have other K-1 visa applicants done with these crazies?

We have all been there! The questions and assumptions get sooooo frustrating! I pretty much just stopped explaining myself. I kept my answers very short and to the point. In regards to the wedding date we had a tentative date planned about 2 months before the interview. We emailed all our friends & family and told them of the date but not to make concrete plans until they got a "save the date" email from theknot.com. Which gave them in total about 6 mos notice.

I have to say family was probably the most understanding, it's all my idiot co workers that had NO CLUE! LoL!
