It snowed on my wedding day too, this past Oct 10th. I hear it's good luck!!

It snowed all morning then by the ceremony time the sun came out and melted all the snow! There was still snow on the trees though made for some nice pictures!

Ok guys, I finally have some "professional" pictures! I am honestly not at all impressed with our photographer's pictures, even less impressed with finding a picture of another wedding in our online album, and on the disk we got to keep! I politely asked her to take it off the album, and specifically asked if that picture was on the disk when I picked it up! ranting33va.gif

A few days ago we got a disk of pictures that my husband's uncle (his girls were the flower girls) took, and a photo book that he made for us of the wedding! It was gorgeous! I love his pictures so much more! I wish there was more of them! He only does photography as a hobby and has never done a wedding before! Too bad we just didn't ask him to do our wedding sad.gif

Anyways I won't be posting the online album, but here are a few of my favorites! (Uncles & "Professional")

Thank you ladies! The lady who did my hair was "famous" for her sexy side ponytail look. I was a little unsure of it at first, but glad she did it, it looked amazing! I think it was pinned a little bit lower on the day of the wedding. Here's a pic from the trial! Oh and the lady who did it, her and her cousin (one of them is also a wedding planner) do hair and makeup (on the side) and they do the travel to you on the day of the wedding...well the cousin who did my hair works in my field and gave me her card!! She said the place she works for will be hiring in December!! smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif

2 days until the wedding!! kicking.gif My fiance and I are both nervous, but I think its just all the pressure of family and friends flying/driving into town and trying to spend time with all of them... My stomach is in knots! But we are both excited and can't wait until Saturday!!

Unfortunately the weather report keeps getting worse.....the temperature for Saturday...38F......and the chance of precip (ie snow) went from 10% to 50%!! crying.gif

It was only 2 - 5 inches. smile.gif I haven't seen it snow in Nebraska this early in the year before.

I hope you had a wonderful day!

Hello everyone! The wedding day was such a beautiful day, full of nerves and excitement but everything worked out great! I woke up and looked out the window and screamed when I saw all the snow on the ground and flying around! They were calling for 70% of snow showers for the rest of the afternoon. By the time the ceremony came though @2:30 it had cleared up and the sun was shining...alot of the snow had melted. But there was some nice pictures with snow in the background! I didn't want to get my dress wet so we were quick to do some park pictures!

Everyone kept on saying that the Canadians brought the snow down with them! LOL! They probably did! I actually needed my snowbrush on the day of my wedding! This week and next Nebraska gets back to average October temperatures....not 30's and 40's....go figure....

Our cake unfortunately did not make it to the cake cutting sad.gif That was the only mishap, but I think it was because it was too warm in the room! When my hubby and I dropped by the room to check it out before the cocktail hour it was leaning a bit. Well it kept getting worse....We had pillars in between the top and middle tier. By the time the dinner was almost over a staff member came over to say its getting worse...it looks like the leaning tower of pisa.... laughing.gif They boxed up the top tier for us before the cutting of the cake! The cake was delicious and we have ALOT leftover!

Slowly recooperating on sleep! and enjoying married life before more paperwork and errands!

We are both in absolute shock with our wedding gifts.....we have enough to file for AOS, start planning a honeymoon, and feel comfortable in case anything unexpected happens while I cannot work, we both feel like we don't deserve it, everyone travelled so far, then to be so generous, we are both so thankful and shocked.

TimandJoyce-congratulations! Hope your roadtrip adventure was wonderful!

I have no pictures yet! My family has a bunch, hubbys family has some and of course the professional ones will take a little bit! I'll be back with pictures when I get some!

For a long time we couldn't even talk about the wedding with hubby's parents. They HATE me. I still believe they don't like me at all.

Ahh! The day after my parents! Well my hair & makeup trial had to be pushed back until Thursday (my birthday) because one of the two ladies ended up in the hospital! I hope she is recovering quickly! At first they thought it was a heart attack, but I guess it was inflammation of the lung. My fall allergies have been way worse seen I arrived here so I could see that as a possibility? 15 days girls!! Ahhh!! So excited!! kicking.gif Just had a menu tasting tonight...mmmmmm!!! Still gotta get my dress steamed, its quite wrinkled from the travel down to NE...I am just a bit nervous about taking it somewhere unknown to do it....worried they will wreck it! Next week is completely booked full with appointments for the wedding....cake, pastor, photographer, reception coordinator, hair trail...should be interesting....Going to try to take it somewhat easy this weekend(yeah right....LOL)...

Huggles- I love red roses, my bouquet will be similar to yours! Everything is red roses, petals, bridesmaid bouquets white roses with hints of red. The rose ball candle favors arrived today! They are so pretty!!

If anybody needs silk/freeze dried petals...check out www.petalgarden.com. A variety of colors and they will send you samples of colors for free! Buy in bulk and so much cheaper than buying those boxed ones at Micheals. My red ones are on order...lol...

YAY!! I'm excited for you! My dress and veil were a little wrinkly from hiding in my SIL's closet for a couple months, So I took them out and let them hang and the wrinkles just fell out... it was like magic! But, I guess it would probably depend on the fabric the dress is made out of. Do you know anything with one of those little portable closet steamers? That might work. I understand you not wanting someone to ruin it! I would feel the same way. Next week sounds like fun! The cake tasting is the best! laughing.gif

The petals are a great idea! I went out and bought a bunch of boxed ones from Michael's and never ended up using them... I was going to put them on the aisle but after everything was set up just on the grass I changed my mind. I also have an aisle runner that was never used... so If anyone is in need hit me up! laughing.gif The rain sorta killed that plan.

Your bridesmaids bouquets sound kinda like mine! They had white roses with a couple reds scattered inside, then we had aqua accent flowers to match the color scheme. I know the rose ball candles you're talking about, they're so cute! I thought about getting some myself but was overruled in the favor department. Sounds like its going to be a nice event! Any idea what your numbers are like? I remember you being worried because you had no idea how many were going to make it. I went through the same thing... it was a huge pain.

Starburst, I LOVE your dress! I wish my body was sexy enough to pull something like that off laughing.gif Everything looks great!!

I think my dress is silk taffeta? I wish I could afford one of those closet steamers...I heard a trick from somewhere that if you put your dress in the bathroom and let the shower run for 10 minutes that the humidity will release the wrinkles...I think I might just give that a try! I don't want the humidity to wreck anything though....hummm SH$T. My dress is currently hanging in the guestroom closet....Keeping a close eye on my fiance so he doesn't peek! LOL!

QUOTE (ashenflowers @ Sep 26 2009, 07:40 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Good to know re: the dress Huggles!! I'll have to remember that. How long did it take for the wrinkles to fall?

Side note:
I'm going to a Bridal Show today with my mom... kinda scared. lol Mostly because I know I'll have to explain over and over again why I'm not getting married in the area, and why I can't commit to anything, and don't exactly know my wedding date. I mean, I guess I can pretend I'm just freshly engaged and we haven't picked it yet, and lots of people do 'destination weddings'. I'm just such a bad liar. laughing.gif

Anyone have any ideas on what I might be able to find that would actually be useful? I have been to bridal shows before, and was even in one's fashion show one time (fun!), but it's a whole different perspective this time around! I don't know if any of it will be useful! I'm bringing a big envelope to put a bunch of pamphlets and cards in so I can sort them out later... haha Also going to show my mom the dress, since the shop is just a few blocks from here biggrin.gif She's only seen it in pics so far

My advice about the bridal show, just keep the answers short and sweet! I also had to explain that I wasn't getting married in the area, so alot of the vendors could not apply to me. But I definitely got some ideas from the displays of flowers, centerpieces..etc etc. OH and stay until the end!! The bridal show I went to, there was prizes they drew for at the end! Almost every prize they drew for they had to draw 2 or 3 times...because the original winner had went home already and not there to claim the prize!! Some stuff you wouldn't be able to claim like a photography package, but maybe the honeymoon package!?

Rhiann-I am sorry about this wedding stress for you sad.gif I hope you guys can come up with a resolution soon. In the beginning for us it was stressful as well, we were more than willing to JOP and skip the big wedding until a year down the road due to AOS and moving, but here I am doing it all in one shot, not the ideal way, but everyone in the situation had to make comprimises, at first it looked like a negative thing as its not what we wanted, but I am now happy with the way things have turned out. As the experienced married person of 2 years (almost)...haha. I can tell you and I'm sure others will. You haven't cpovered everything, but that is ok. I was single for ever and had always done everyything, it was hard for me to realize there was someone else who did stuff too

hmm - we should make a list of things we realized we hadn't covered in conversation before the big move and the wedding. I'll start....

1. What is your billing paying style - do you pay them when you receive them if possible or wait til the last day they're due? I ticked myt husband off initially because I pay them when they arrive instead of waiting, he pays them when due.

2. Who will make dinner, what will you do if the dinner person doesn't feel like making it tonight? As a single person, I could make whatever decision I wanted, but now I felt it was necessary to plan dinner every night and I didn't want to let folks down if they were expecting it...yah, that didn't work out wink.gif

Please continue......

I didn't see this until now! I totally agree with you Udella! I think the advantage I have with my fiance is that we got to see each other daily (or almost daily) while dating because I lived in the U.S. for the almost 4 years we dated, going to school. The last year of the student visa we moved in together so this past 1.5 years has been extremely tough being separated! I know what he's like for bill paying and stuff already and I know if he could we would order pizza 3x a week! I am sooo pepperoni pizza'd out!! laughing.gif I like to cook, he is just a picky eater so it all depends on our moods...LOL...We can plan meals but then he can come home and say...I don't want that tonight, well there goes MY plan! laughing.gif Most of the time its not a big deal, I just get excited to try out a new recipe!

I wanted to kill! headbonk.gif haha

Bill's grandma really wanted us to do marriage counseling but we didn't feel as though we really needed it, or wanted it. I think it may be a nice thing to do if you have the time and the desire, of if you're a religious person wanting to comply with the laws of the church... otherwise, I don't see it as very valuable, at least in our case. We've spent years doing nothing but talking for hours each day, I can't imagine a topic we haven't covered! Although I grew up a Catholic, I stop practicing years ago. We had a nondenominational officiant perform our ceremony and he was amazing! When we started planning the wedding the only stipulation I had was no churches. But that's just me personal feelings on the topic... god and I don't always get along.

I was also born and raised Catholic, but do not affiliate with any specific church. We are getting married in a United Methodist Church and I felt comfortable in that kind of church after being introduced to it. We have pre marital counselling sessions, but only 3 of them, we have already had 2. The last one is when I arrive. I was pretty open with the pastor about my previous affiliation and that I care to call myself a Christian now.

Speaking of alterations...Went to pick up my dress today! When I put on the veil I cried! It looks so gorgeous now that it fits properly! The seamstress who we have been going to for years only charged us $160! I was in shock! I am sure with all the work she had to do in the city it would have cost us at least $500! Including a bustle! That was including my sisters bridesmaid dress and my mom's MOH dress. When we got home I realized that i needed an extra hook in the back because when i put my arms up in the air, the dress slowly slid down and it would have been a Janet Jackson moment the more I moved around! laughing.gif So mom sewed on an extra hook that made the dress fit perfectly....cuz I have like no boobs.... laughing.gif I'm sure DB would have charged waaay more!

I went out this weekend, and saw no less than THREE girls out for their bachelorettes! Crazy!

Yes it was definitely "interesting" laughing.gif At first I was apprehensive about it, but then I realized I need to keep an open mind and realize I could actually learn something! I guess the store also did the strippercize and has weekly classes on different sex topics, some just for women and some for couples, but a new class coming out for men to attend about how to please their women.

Anywhos, nuff about that! There was also another bachelorette at the comedy club as well! Not nearly as decked out as me though! tongue.gif Gotta love the tiara... laughing.gif Of course the MC had to pick on us!

Love the wedding pictures huggles!! I love those red rose balls!

I just got back from toon town yesterday for my stagette! My friends put on a lovely day! For those of you who are a bit more conservative....Stop reading now!!

At first I thought that the strippercize class would be fun! But unfortunately too expensive for the small amount of people that would attend. To make a long story short I had two people not show at it was on Saturday, I was quite disappointed! One of them I completely understand she couldn't get out of something cuz she is a teacher, the other, well clearly I know where we stand now.

So to the "class" we went to....It was alot less expensive, but very "informative"....It was called a ####### Pleasing class. Look up the book "Tickle his Pickle"...its based on that book. (The girls bought me the book after the class, LOL) It was definitely educational, but I could not stop giggling through out some of it, the instructor was very good and had a sense of humor about everything thank goodness! We then went to a restaurant, played some trivia games then off the to comedy club. The headliner comedian was soooo good!! He talked for additional 20 minutes because the audience kept on buying him drinks...he was hammered by the end of the night. The MC sounded like Norm McDonald from SNL!

Anywhos of course the girls brought presents and paid for my entire night, but my best friend also had to embaress me and buy pink jewelry from the kids section...I also had pink handcuffs attached to my jeans!

I hope I am posting this picture right.....

This year and next are the like the year for weddings!! I guess it could be my age group, 25 seems like a popular age to get married! Friends, cousins are all next year and prob won't be able to attend all of them. Esp if my cousin's is in CUBA!! Anyways, I booked my coloring for my hair next week as I do not want to mess it up!! Booked appointments with pastor, catering manager, coordinator at the church, photographer, this is seriously a full time job the closer it gets!!! My fiances' special order wedding band came in!! My aunt & uncle are visiting from Speedy Creek, unfortunately he has surgery tomorrow, but my mom, aunt and I decided to make the pew bows and reception bows for the wedding this evening! It was so much fun! We still have more to do tomorrow, I can't wait!! Thank goodness for my aunt who is crafty and DIY...cuz I am NOT and my mom needed a little guidance, we would have been sooooo lost without her!!

Did I mention......30 days!!!! Ahhhh!!!

Peachey- If your hair is long, maybe have it half up half down? My hair is SUPER straight too....like seriously I do not need a hair straightener! My stylist who did my trial (see pics in earlier post) used maximum hold thermal setting mist with her curling iron and it worked wonders! Its very sticky stuff, and can be messy to deal with, but it works!!! My hair held the curl VERY well. Almost 10 hours later, it didn't look "fresh" but still had lots of hold and curl!

We also kept it small under 100 people, we both knew there was going to be family that could not make it, but for the most part alot of our families are coming. My fiance has a small family, long story short we had to put our foot down with my future MIL, because she wanted to invite family that my fiance had never met before, HER "close" family, her aunts uncles and cousins. If they are that close...how come Brad has never met all but one of them? They were also "courtesy" invites....well it didn't go over well, but they did NOT happen. Yes if you look at it some of the invites were courtesy, because we either knew or had a feeling they would not be able to make it, close friends of the family and even some family, but it was for people we actually KNEW, and had some part in our lives!

Our RSVP date is coming up very quickly and of the 100 people we invited, so far we only have 43 confirmed, and around 30 declined so if that helps at all. When its an OOT wedding your acceptance rate goes down, its an OOT wedding for 90 % of the guests, besides some of his friends that actually received an invite and work friends that will be asked to come once we know our numbers.

Jill & Huggles- my hair is still in knots....I am working up the courage to comb it out! lol!

I understand your frustrations Jill! I actually had a couple family members get together and ask me to change my wedding date 6 weeks before the wedding because the day and time I picked were "inconvenient" for them. Really? Words couldn't describe how angry I was inside! But I just laughed, what else can you do? Its unbelievable how bold and rude some people can be.

Minnie- isn't the hair trial exciting! That's when I started to really get anxious. Have you set a concrete move date yet?

Nope no concrete move date yet, I am getting really anxious though! Depends how much packing I can get done!

Pics of my trial hair! I'm hoping that the stylist in Omaha will be able to replicate it!

Thanks! There's so much to do. At least we have our hall and caterer.

Still need a DJ, the pastor to say ok he'll marry us (LOL!) my fiance emailed him yesterday, a bartender... Those are pretty much the big things we have left.

I got our photographer and video last time I was down. The photographer is just going to give me all the "negatives". I'm pretty good with photoshop, so I can make my own albums smile.gif

I have an appointment for flowers and cake testing when I got down to visit in September.

We are actually doing some pre-marital counseling when I'm down next month... scary!

You are way more organized than I was! Last time I went down we had to scout out venues, and we also arranged for premarital counselling...it was more like a fun conversation, our pastor was so laid back. At one point Brad had me crying some of the stuff he was saying I had never heard him really vocalize until that day..I knew he felt that way, just its nice to hear it, It was so sweet and endearing. I wish I would have had time to book cake testing, meet with photographers and DJ's....there just wasn't enough time cuz I was also getting stuff ready the for interview, as we just got our NOA2 before I flew to Omaha. I did scout out a place for the cake and looked through their book, but thats about it, the rest is all other peoples reviews on stuff from various websites such as theknot.com, which of course is risky, but so far its worked out okay...i'll let u know if it doesn't...lol.

Is anyone getting a band for their wedding, or is everyone doing the DJ route? My MIL went to a wedding with a band and she claimed they were really great and we should look into a band.... but our tastes differ so I'm not so sure....

We are going with a DJ, just because we like a variety of music as do our families, also we needed an MC. I don't think I would be comfortable with a band, I guess it would depend on the kind of songs played, with a band I would be worried about them being able to play our song requests that vary from country to Top 40 to 80's to Oldies.

OMG that's a horrible story!!

So my 2 closest girlfriends back home both got engaged over the past month. One is having a July 2010 wedding, the other August 2010, mine Sept 2010, and my husband's cousin is Oct 2010. Damn it's going to be an expensive year!

Oh my goodness! Thats packed!! I just found out my cousin's wedding will be in Toronto in August 2010!! Reeeallly hoping I have my GC by that time next year, oh and I've never been to Toronto, so it should be a fun trip!!!

My other cousin just got engaged too, his fiance wants a January 2010 wedding....if they do...I probably won't be able to attend sad.gif

Oh yes....and my other cousin is planning a November 2010 wedding to Cuba......guess I won't be attending that one either! sad.gif

CanadaCanadian vs. American PB, and grocery stores
Wegmans? Zehs? Good Basics?

No Frills? Loblaws?

I've never heard of these places....oh wait thats because I grew up in the prairies....and moved to the midwest USA

The peanut butter & ketchup does taste different from Canadian what I am used to. My husband thinks I am crazy that I notice the difference! But he does acknowledge that Coke made with REAL SUGAR tastes alot better than HFCS! Yuck!

I keep hearing Wegmans has Canadian foods though...I can't get anything good in Nebraska! :crying:

I had a company pension plan & when I left I had to choose whether to take the lump-sum or invest it. I saw no point in investing it in canada because like you I knew I was not going to have any income for at least 3 months because of no EAD. They taxed 20% of it right off the bat... Almost as bad as NR tax!!! For some people they can rely on their SO to take care of their expenses while they are unemployed due to the K1 visa, for us that was not an option. We also had a wedding to pay a small part of, out families paid the majority.

It's really unique to your own personal finances as well as the comingling of finances after you are husband & wife. I thought getting a job wouldn't take long once I had the EAD... Boy was I wrong... But Canada EI has kicked in until then.

CanadaCanadians feeling guilty about taking jobs away from Americans?

I am not saying that I am adapting to their needs, or think they shouldn't learn to speak the language at all.

I am saying we shouldn't assume that they aren't trying. Their accents aren't going to go away over night, the language isn't going to be learned over night either. So should they stay in their homes and not go out and communicate with the general public until they can speak English sufficiently? Because communicating is one way to learn.

We take our language for granted. We don't realize how hard English is to learn. How so many immigrants do come, work during the day, and go to ESL classes at night.

Overcome and adapt? Sure... but it's not going to happen quickly for these people. Much easier said than done.

I don't think any of us can really make the judgement call on who's trying and who's not.

I respect your point about the immigrants that DO try to adapt, take ESL classes and try to maintain a stable living in the US. What I was talking about in my post was immigrants who do NOT adapt, whether they are legal or illegal, they come to the USA and do not learn to communicate via the English language. I realize that learning a language does not happen overnight, neither does adaptation to a different culture.

Oh by the way the United States doesn't actually have an "official" language. Just because the majority of the population speaks it, does not mean it's the official language.

I stand corrected. It is still the accepted language of the United States and many states have declared English as the official language.

The process should start well before they even immigrate, in my opinion. I'm just thinking from what *I* would find to be common sense. If I was moving to, say, Poland for some reason or another, as soon as I knew that I would be doing that, I'd be taking Polish lessons. I'd be doing my best to ensure that I could communicate with my new countrymen. I'd be doing this largely for myself. I know that communication is the key to integration. And I wouldn't dream of taking a job that required frequent dealings with the public until I was certain that my ability to speak Polish was up to snuff.

I guess it's an "agree to disagree" issue, but in my view, communication is too important to ignore prior to immigration.

Agreed, I would try to learn the accepted and/or official language of the country.
