Sorry... I really should've clarified. By wedding 'planner', I meant like.. day planner... booklet... thing. Not a wedding planner PERSON.. I'm not wasting money to hire a 'planner'... I'm just looking for a good book to be able to write stuff down. LOL And/or a good wedding planning website... i.e. frugralbride.com or something

My bad... I wasn't able to explain that earlier, cause I can't do VJ at work. But thanks for your tips!!
I am sort of looking forward to planning this, but also REALLY don't want anything fancy... I don't really have anyone I can co-plan this with, which makes me kinda sad sad.gif I mean, I guess my mom, but even so, she lives an hour and a 1/2 away, which isn't FAR, but far enough to make it difficult to do things together with her. Oh well. There's of course my fiance, but he's farrrr.... And doesn't get why we'd need to come up with any decisions right now since our reception with family/friends isn't until next summer. lol

It's okay! If you are looking for a good wedding planning website www.theknot.com is awesome! They have local boards to chat with other brides getting married in the same area! Q& A about etiquette, ideas for just about anything! Checklists! Budgeter! Guestlist Manager, A notebook to save ideas, the list goes on! I have also heard that WeddingWire.com is a good website as well, never used it, oh and I guess Martha Stewart has something similar as well.

I'm not even sure how it's going to work with me walking down an 'aisle'. We haven't entirely decided how formal we're going to make our bigger celebration. We're not sure if we want to have another ceremony or not... The legal ceremony in the U.S. will be us and our parents, and I think at that point I'll have my dad walk my down the aisle. I'm his only daughter, and I think he'd be sad to miss the opportunity.

I have a niece and nephew... both really young (niece is just over a month old, and nephew is 2 and a 1/2), which I thought would be neat if they could be ring bearer and flower girl, but I don't think they will be at our big family celebration as they are moving to Cambodia later this year and probably won't be back for the wedding. I wasn't able to attend my brother's wedding (my only sibling too), and now it looks like he won't be able to attend mine... great.. huh.gif

Sorry, went off a bit... lol

Has anyone found a good wedding planner that ISN'T all about "traditional" weddings? I like to keep notes/lists, because my memory is HORRIBLE, but I haven't found anything suitable to my tastes. I want something that will give me interesting off-beat, creative tips... but I don't really want a planner that says 'you have to do it this way!' sad.gif

I don't think any wedding planner should say "you have to do it this way"! So many weddings these days are not traditional, and it's all up to you how you want it done. I'm doing lots of things that aren't tradtional, but I don't have a planner I'm doing it all myself.

I totally agree with Jill. Its your wedding, it should be about what you want! Planning a wedding is really not that difficult, and it can often be a really fun and enriching experience. I understand that a lot of people don't have the time or interest to sink into planning their wedding alone, but I found that the distractions of wedding planning really helped keep my mind off the stresses of the immigration process. Its just something fun waiting at the end of the rainbow to help keep your eye on the prize!

I agree too. Its your wedding, it should be how you and your fiance envision it. Of course if its $$ involved and everyone is paying for it then it becomes stressful because then everyone has a say. The way I look at it, if everyone is paying for it that is fine, but please take into consideration how the bride and groom want the wedding to be, after all its about them! If its all about what everyone else wants then the wedding is about other peoples expectations which does not make a happy bride and groom.

I had a friend say to me, why are you getting so stressed out? Wedding planning should be fun, you should enjoy it! I am having fun with it, I do enjoy it but its not all roses! There are bumps along the way and there are things that are going to stress you out, especially with the immigration stuff piled onto of it if you aren't doing a civil + ceremonial wedding(later), planning from a distance sucks and in my situation the only person to help out with running around in the city we are getting married is my fiance. Some things I have gotten by being on the local boards on theknot.com, its how I got on-site hair and makeup for the big day! Some things I can do by phone without ever meeting in person. It helps that the last trip I took I got to view the venues, talk with a cake decorator, talk with the coordinators and the pastor.

The wedding planning is definitely a nice distraction from the 4 months I have left to spend in Canada and its nice that I am able to share the planning in person with my mom. I don't think I realized how much I am going to miss her until now crying.gif

Okay folks, we've gotta come up with a way to "label" the weddings, b/c I know people are gonna get confused. It would be nice to use the same terminologies for everyone, to keep it simple. smile.gif Here is my thought...

~ We can always put "Legal" so people know that is the date for the marriage license.
~ We can put "Celebration" for the church (or place of worship) or ceremonial wedding that is/is not the legal marriage date.
~ We can put "Church" for the church (or place of worship) or "Ceremonial" for the wedding that is/is not legal, but the formal celebration.

What do you all think???

BTW, Chadlaure, Minnew, and Hapycloud... which wedding is this for you all?

PS

All this talk about wedding dresses makes me wonder, are you all planning on keeping your dresses? I know it's trendy to pay a fortune at the dry cleaners to get it cleaned and boxed in acid free materials and I've always wondered why. You don't wear it again and any daughters you have probably won't want to wear it.

The tradition in my family is totally different. We make the dress into christening gowns for our children. My grandmother made one out of Mom's dress for me. It's hand smocked and embroidered. If all goes as planned, it will be the dress our first child wears. I'll do the same with my dress for our second. It helps that I love sewing and embroidery.

~ Catherine

DB tried to sell me one of those preservation kits, but at the time I was undecided and I still am. My mother kept her gown and I did try it on when I first got engaged, it is a really nice gown for the time period that she got married, she did not get it preserved though and the material looks faded. As far as I know there is no tradition for the wedding gown in my family, but what your doing sounds like a really good tradition to start! I unfortunately cannot sew but I sure could learn!

I also haven't had that "moment". Ok well I did, I just did not cry! When I went to DB to try on dresses, or shall I say 1 dress, I knew automatically that the dress was perfect! It was the first and last one that I tried on at DB! I only started tearing up after she put on my veil and was talking to me about a blusher veil tradition and giving the blusher veil to my father to put on my first born's bassonette.

I can't wait to see my fiance's face when I walk down the aisle in my dress, I am hoping at least to get a few tears out of him. tongue.gif I have never seen him "cry" just get "teary eyed", in his words. laughing.gif

JC Penney had their tuxes on sale for $100. They were really lovely, too. good.gif

My parents went shopping across the border a few weeks ago and they bought my dad a really nice black suit, black pants with a black vest and white shirt. It would have cost them around $400 for everything, but because there was a sale I think they paid $200! I am going to mention that to my fiance as well, because maybe it would be beneficial to buy a Tux on sale, it would be the same price as renting. Though I am not sure he would ever wear it again! The only time he has to dress up is for Military events and then he just wears his AF dress uniform.

Oh! Why doesn't he wear his fancy military uniform? I saw a wedding on TV the other day and the groom was wearing some kinda formal military suit (forgive me for having no idea what it was called! But I think it was a navy blue) and It looked pretty sexy!

Yeah he did think about wearing his AF dress uniform..the navy blue is the AF uniform...also called the pilot or airline attendant outfit as some people say.. laughing.gif The best service dress outfit I think is the marine outfit. No but he's got some ribbons and stripes that look pretty sexy.. biggrin.gif Anyways, he did think about wearing his AF dress uniform, but felt like it would not look "right" if his 2 groomsmen did not have matching dress uniforms. His dad does have one, but from like 30 years ago when he was in the service, so it would not fit, and his best friend from GA is not in the military.

On the flip side though his mother has asked that he wear his AF dress uniform for the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner, so I guess I've got to find a little black dress to go along!

For the tux's we got measurement cards from men's warehouse, so I'm having my brother and dad measured and will just order their tux's at the same location we are getting everyone elses. That way they don't have to ship them either. I learned when we went to look at tux's that its all a shot in the dark anyways... they don't really have the things there for you to try on, you just give them your measurements and hope its accurate. I don't think they would send them to the other store but I could be wrong. I know David's Bridal wouldn't do that for me.

Smart plan with the dress alteration. I wouldn't recommend anyone getting their dress altered at DB! They are backlogged AND they charged me $200 to have the sleeves altered and the bustle put in. I thought that was a little ridiculous. A lot of smaller bridal shops do alterations at no extra cost, but I guess you get what you pay for.

Micheal's is great! I bet we got the same cardholder/keepsake chest as you! I'm thinking about buying the aisle runner they have too. I think my coupon expired...

The store manager in NE said it could be done, but I seriously do not trust a store to get it right, I think it would be better for my piece of mind if they just travelled with the tuxes.

$200 for alterations!! Yikes! They would have charged me alot then! It fits me almost perfect on top but needs to be taken in majorly in the hips and the length of course because I am not even 5'4.

Do you get store flyers at home? I got one this past Saturday that had two 40% off coupons for any regular priced items and then thats how this how coupon mess started....they keep giving me 50% off coupons every time day I go back there!! I still have the three to use!!...too bad I can't just use them all at once, I keep having to go back there every day lol! Thats ok though its not far from my house! I guess its good timing because I do need to buy the accessories!!

Well gals, I have got the Visa!! its finally time to hunker down and do some serious wedding planning...i only have 4 months to do it and I am freaking out!! All we have booked is the church and the reception. There is still DJ, photographer, flowers, cake...oh boy the list goes on! wacko.gif The DJ and photographer if they are both still available by the time I book(hopefully this week) they will totally be in my price range...if not....well time to start looking again! I need to book a consultation with the florist! I might be doing silk, we will see!

How much advance notice does a cake decorator need?

When do I start dress fittings?

How much time does a place like Men's Wearhouse need for tuxes and alterations?

helpsmilie.gif

Guess I should go find my checklists on theknot.com!!

Oooo Did I mention I LOVE Michaels? There was a 40% off coupon in a flyer this weekend for this week that I used today, another 40% off coupon for next week, a 50% off coupon just for signing up for email newsletters, and I received a 50% off coupon for buying something today at Michaels with my 40% off coupon. So in total I still have 3 to use! Yippee!!

Let's see if I can help here.... tongue.gif

CAKE: Book asap, because they can only bake and decorate so many cakes at one time. BUT, you can generally get away with giving them a specific number about 7-12 days out from the date.

DRESS: These, you typically start 4-5 weeks before. Just because, again, they can only alter so many dresses at one time. I'm going for my 1st fitting on 6/5 and the wedding is 7/17. That might give you an idea... but it all depends on who/where you're you are getting your dress and alterations.

TUX: Depending on the tux supplier, guys can probably get measured and "order" at anytime. However, the "final" fitting should be at least 2-3 days prior to event. That way, if necessary, there is enough time for exchanges if the sizes that were originally sent don't fit right.

As far as lists... the online list at TheKnot.com is amazing! They cover everything... except for the additional personal items you choose to add. For example, when to apply for the wedding license.

Good luck! good.gif Keep us up to date on how things are going for you!

BTW, the napkins were from TheKnot.com's Wedding Shop!

Congrats on getting the visa minnie!

For the cake it really depends on where you're getting it! Our baker said he doesn't need anything until a week before the wedding. We went for a consultation and picked out the design, but that's about it. He was a pretty cool dude!

I had my dress altered rather early. The David's Bridal location I got it at told me they were taking 10-12 weeks to complete alterations. So I had to go in February, as that was the last time I was going to be in state until 6 weeks before the wedding. I asked if they could fit me in in that 6 week window and they all freaked out and said there was no way. Hopefully everything fits just fine! I will try on the dress ASAP when I move down there just to make sure!

We're getting our Tux's from Men's Warehouse too! We went in and looked at some catalogs back in February and they told us that its smart to order 6 weeks to a month before the wedding, and then have the men come in a couple days before the wedding to insure everything fits.

Honestly, don't worry! When I was in Colorado back in February I found and booked all my vendors in a week! I had my dress altered, picked out a cake and bought a topper, looked at and picked out Tux's, picked out my fiances wedding band with him, picked out flowers and booked the florist, found and booked a DJ and a violinist for the ceremony, and found and booked an officiant. All in a week! You can make it happen.

That reminds me I still need transportation...

JulyBride I love your napkins! I'm still trying to decide If I want them. Like, what are they for? The cake? If you have cloth napkins at the table why do you need to get paper ones?

When I last visited my fiance after the NOA2 is when we booked the church and the reception venue, and I also went to the Men's Wearhouse and the local HyVee as I heard they do really good cakes. The only thing that might be logistically a nightmare is his best man and groom tuxes will need to be ordered in GA and picked up there and brought to NE or just sent to the store in NE...not sure how that works quite yet. Pretty reasonable prices for cakes I just can't remember how long she said to wait to order the cake! I think it will be within the next month..holy ####### its June 1st tomorrow! wacko.gif Now I just need to call the wedding coordinator at the church and ask her questions about the ceremony and how we can decorate the pews! She also gave me the name of a lady who is an organist/pianist so I need to get on that too! I didn't want to call her before and say well...we tentatively have a date you now?

My dress was also from DB but because the DB is 6 hours away I am going to get it altered here at home by the same lady who did my graduation dress and my sister's. She is a bit older, and has slowed down her business alot but she said she would do mine! She also makes wedding dresses, but again has slowed down. So I am thinking by end of July at the latest because I don't know how fast she will be from fitting to fitting.

I went to Michaels today and bought a keepsake chest/card box for $34 dollars regularly $60 with my 50% off coupon...and got another 50% off coupon good until June 13th! I still have 3 to use lol!!

Oh jeez I still need to send out save the date emails (via the knot) and start on invitations!

That's smart! I didn't plan things out that well. Originally, we were thinking that only 35-40 people would be able to make it, which was totally fine. But the last couple months or so, everyone has been coming out of nowhere asking when the wedding is and if they're invited. So now the guest list is at 65 and the room I have booked only fits 50... Here's hoping no more than 50 decide to show up! That will be interesting... The venue has a bunch of different banquet rooms with different capacity's, so maybe they would let me switch if the guest list gets to big... but I think we'll be alright. Its so hard not knowing how many people will be able to make it. I'm finding that a lot of people who said they probably wouldn't be able to come are now making arrangements to come out, and the people who were enthusiastic and asked to be invited because they really wanted to come are backing out. To make it worse, my grandpa's health has deteriorated over the past couple months and they won't be able to make the long trip... Now none of my grandparents can come sad.gif

Yikes! I hope that does not happen to us! I think I may have to cut down our guest list and have an A and B list. I really do not like the fact that we are having "courtesy" invites to those that we know won't come, thanks to both of our parents.. mad.gif But some of those are also our friends. Our room only holds 80, currently our guest list is at 110. I think we will be lucky if we get 60. Some of those are OOT single guests "with" a guest. There have already been people say that they won't be able to come so I am factoring in those, I just hope that their situation won't change! unsure.gif I thought weddings where everyone has to travel will cut down those who show! wacko.gif

So here's a question for you all....

When you're doing the guest list, you get your number of invites to send out, etc. But how do you know the approximate amount of guests will actually be there? We have to give our approx. guest count to whatever venue place we choose upon signing the contract, yet it's hard to do that because there are so many "maybes" due to out of towners.... and then you only give the final count a few weeks before.... So I could be way off in guessing how many guests will actually be there. I'm inviting many of my Dad's friends he asked me to, but he said they definitely won't come. Knowing my luck they'll decide to wacko.gif

Generally, you would plan for a 10-15% drop off rate. But, I think with out of town guests, its more like 25-30%.

If I were you, I would sort your guest list by the ones you know for sure, the ones that are maybes and then maybe the ones that are going to most likely be nos. Then I would find a room that fits all the Yes and maybe 85% of the maybes... that way if you have some maybes not come and then some of the Nos come, you'll be okay.

We got really lucky with our room. The minimum is 100 people and the maximum is 300. The reason is because we paid them a hefty room rental fee. But, the food/alcohol per head was much lower than any other place, so when you add them together, it was what you would normally pay a hall here. Obviously it gets more expensive per head when our guest list drops, but at least we're safe if a lot of out out of town guests don't come.

Or, I think your best bet is to find a room that fits 85% of your guestlist - that will accept a low minimum, like maybe 65% of your list.

That's a good idea Sapphire - I think theknot lets you sort your guest list that way, I'll get started on that. I love theknot.com!

I second that good.gif I have my guest list saved there and I can export it to a spreadsheet when it comes time to address! I can even sort rehearsal dinner guest, out of towners (which is almost everyone)lol, children, etc. I am going to do an online RSVP too, the postage and mailing between US and Canada has me and my fiance frustrated, we will do email RSVP as well, its a small wedding with only 60-80 people, its just easier that way for us, everyone on my guest list has an email address and knows how to send one, or enter a website. laughing.gif

I have a question related to flowers, I am thinking about using Freeze-Dried Flowers or Silk Flowers for the wedding bouquets, boutenieres, corsages..all that fun stuff! There is a business here that prepares bouquets from freeze-dried roses in whatever colours you want. My question is how well would the flowers hold up after a 15 hour trip in a car in October, and would CBP allow Freeze-Dried Flowers to cross a POE? They are not fresh flowers, so I do not see why not, but I could see their excuse being to prevent spread bugs and disease. The reason I would like to go with Freeze-Dried or Silk is cost, but also I could not tell the difference in person when I saw the Freeze-Dried Bouquets and the whole flower package was only $400. I have not been able to find a similar business in the area I am moving to unfortunately sad.gif

I know that flowers are OK to cross the border, as long as there is no soil. The problem with plants and such is the soil. My stepmom is a florist and has done weddings before in NY driving from Montreal with no problems. To be safe you could always check with the border.

Thank you! biggrin.gif That was my next step as I could not find anything on CBP website regarding restricted items except plants with soil.

^ I found a dress I really liked here, but I've decided to hold off on my search until December. I want to wait until the Fall 2010 styles are out... and want to lose like 10 more pounds, LOL and that's not happening with all my going away dinners and parties, haha.

I'm also tempted to check out David's Bridal. It's so much cheaper, but after trying on some really nice silk (not tafetta) dresses, I think I am sold on something pricier. Even though I know it's just one day yada yada yada... I am in love the structure and make of some of the dresses I tried on. They were very well made and SO flattering. I always thought I would just get a cheap dress, but now I'm not so sure!

I'm going to check it out for sure when I move and I'll report back. I'm really interested in getting bridesmaid dresses there.

I got both my dress and my bridesmaid dresses at DB. The bridesmaid dresses are on order right now and should come in by August. We are also getting bolero jackets to match. If you get your dress at DB they will take 20%..or was it 10? percent off the purchase of bridesmaid dresses. Heres what the bridesmaid dresses will look like but in black:

Wow all this diamond talk makes me want to create a, "show us your bling!" thread... but in my experiences that does nothing but create catty female competition tongue.gif I think its because I'm from ghetto Welland and if you actually have a diamond you're one step ahead! I went to a get together with some female friends from high school last week and there was another girl from our old group of friends who is engaged. Everyone asked to see my ring and I showed them... Then after she REFUSED to show anyone hers and sat with her hands in her pockets! I love my ring, I think its gorgeous, but Its not a huge showy diamond or anything! I don't know what her problem was...

Wow that ridiculous, an engagement ring can definitely spark competition. I do have to admit though that the girls that have the HUGE bling really turn me off I think just care about the ring more than they do the actual marriage. I have a friend who got engaged around the same time as me, well her fiance insisted on getting her the biggest, nicest ring he could afford. I can't believe men can be the same way about bling. She didn't want a huge ring as it would not look proportional for her size, she's barely 5 ft and 100 pounds, nor is it practical. Well who do you think won that one...the fiance, when my friends and I go out together who do you think gets more attention and compliments? How can you not notice a 2 carat ring on a tiny finger? That ring is heavy! But it's also in a platinum band. The thing is she hasn't let it go to her head, I think she is more embarassed by it, because my first reaction was OH MY GOD! she's like does it look that bad? Anyways, the motto of the my rambling is that having a showy diamond does not always mean a happy marriage or a happy fianc(e)

It is. I don't like doing this at all! I want this place sooo badly! I have had dreams both nights since Saturday about it.

I wasn't enjoying the house hunt at all until I saw that place and Mike and I both looked at each other after we saw it and said: "That's the one' but we didn't want to get our hopes up.

I wouldn't have to paint it, we wouldn't have to redo the kitchen... we could use that money on some new furniture.

It's just perfect for us. I love the neighborhood too, would take me 5 minutes to get to work (as opposed to 15 minutes :P) and my son's school is just down the road.

OH and i noticed the people living next door have an Ottawa Senators sticker on their window! Canadian bffs anyone??

Good luck Sprail! The house sounds perfect for you & your family! That would be cool to have a Canadian neighbor!!

They are similar in that they are a lot of the time downtrodden tales of their lives and their neighborhoods.

I never thought about it like that.... Very true!

I'd much rather hear about "life in a small town" than... Hearing about getting "shot up" or any references to gang life.

lol @ country music. A friend of mine who is a country music fan gets soooooooo pissed when I tell him that country music is basically the same as rap.

lol how so? At least I can understand the lyrics of country music! Rap music the only thing I understand out of the song is b&***ches & ho#*s.

Oh & I like nickelback too! I don't like Chad Kroeger though I hear he's an a$$hole!

So my Brother in Law is on his way to Calgary tonight (from Nebraska) to work in Ft. McMurray for a couple of months. Luckily he still has his big coat :hehe:

Haha! We definitely have been spoiled down here in Nebraska in regards to thr temperature. No where near as cold and for as long as AB & SK. We have had ALOT of snow though! Where in NE is your BIL? I'm in the south metro
of Omaha.

I just wanted to mention, and maybe see if others feel the same? We went to the Blues vs the Leafs hockey game on Friday night. A wonderful, wonderful singer sang both National Anthems. It's rare, that I get to hear the Canadian National Anthem anywhere here, so I was delighted the last time, and this time to hear it again. There were MANY people in the crowd signing both anthems as well, which I found so nice. They had the words up on the jumbo screen, so maybe that's why people sang along. Anyway, the whole time the anthem is playing I'm crying. Just bawling my eyes out. I get so overwhelmed when I hear it. I always did, even in Canada, but never cried like I do now.

This happen to anyone else while here?

Oh Carla you are not the only one! I never used to get emotional @ the Canadian anthem, but after residing in the US I am more proud than ever to hear Oh Canada! I bawled my eyes out watching the anthem sung @ the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. I did not like the way it was sung however but it was still very emotional to watch.

I would so make it "Happy valentime" because its funny when people say that.

Haha! It's cute when kids say it like that!

What happened to the chocolates with the apostrophe and the S on them?

LoL! I have no idea! I guess there wasn't a box long enough? Oh dear that would be an extra 2 columns of cakelets! I'm gonna enjoy gaining a few pounds... Hehe!

Congrats on the job Minnew!

Varba came to the conclusion this morning that it doesn't snow much in Canada, it just snows wherever I am.. which I am starting to believe.

Thank you Peachy!

Hahahaha! My husband says the same thing. He's not from NE but he keeps hearing that NE never gets this much snow! Ever! It has been a wicked winter so far!

He also says that it's the "canadians" ie. My relatives that brought down the snow with them for our early October wedding! Apparently it's never snowed THAT EARLY in NE! LoL! Made for some pretty pictures outdoors though!

Good morning everyone! * yawn* puppy usually doesn't wake me up this early! 6:30 am he was scratching at the bed! Usually he's good for another hour!

Update on the job situation.... I am set up to start march 1st at a place for youth. Got 2 phone calla yesterday for 2 other jobs I applied for, 1 a denial they chose someone else and 1 an offer for a position working with adults. So I have a few phone calla to make... To accept the one offered yesterday and decline the other i am set up to start. Needed a day to think about pros and cons because of pay, commute and different type of hours..

I should be in trainig as early as next Tuesday! Now just have to rush to get all the preemployment tests done... Yay.... Another drug test....

Peeples! Vancouver needs more snow! We're in jeopardy of not having enough for the snowboarding and freestyle skiing competition in the Olympics.

Haha! I can send you some if you want! We got ANOTHER 4 inches in NE! I'm sooooooo sick of digging out for
the past 3 months... Storm after storm.... Ugh!

Congrats on the new job Minnew! Look at it as a stepping stone to a better job :)

That's how I'm trying to look at it too. So glad my car is great on gas! But don't want to spend a fortune commuting either for the pay. Hope it balances all out.

Happy early birthday Joyce & Bern!

Well the drug & fit test went okay this morning.. Went to HR.... I start March 1st unless I hear from them otherwise! YaY!!.... Crappy pay, crappy hours, long commute, but it's a job & full time & working with troubled young adults! :)

I'm still waiting to hear about another job, the woman said I will receive a phone call either way on Friday... Day hours + much better pay, short commute + working with adults with SMI..

The suspense is killin me!!! Either way I get to savour these next few weeks of unemployment... It's going to be a complete 180 after not being able to be apart of working world since September of last year!

Good morning all - thanks for the lovely coffee Carla!

Minnew - I have never heard an oil rig worker called a 'rigger' - so that's interesting, maybe it's one of those regional Canadian things?? I have heard 'roughnecks' - rig workers etc etc - but never riggers!

You lost people need to get a grip. That is all :hehe:

Oh and we bought a house here in Calgary and we move in 3 weeks.

Maybe it's a SK thing? I have no idea! A friend of mine dated a guy who lived in Saskatoon (well had a house) but worked on the "rigs" and she always called him a rigger!

Congrats on the house trailmix!

I never got into the show LOST I tried to watch an episode and well it just didn't happen...... Not my cup of tea.

That wasn't what I thought riggers were at first

I hope you do ok with the physical part. Do your best!! I hope your back gets better too. I think your too young to have back issues!

LoL! Do I want to know what you thought they were at first? Haha!

I hope I do too! Unfortunately back problems run in both sides of my family... My genes were doomed from the beginning! LoL! I need to find a chiropractor down here and also find out if TriCare covers the cost. I'm only 25 & I have custom fit orthotics for my shoes!

Krikit- 90% of the drug testing clients that came in were either pre-employment or continued employment guys who lived in SK but worked the oil rigs in northern Alberta. The most interesting one was a DNA sample for child custody... Collecting that was a little hairy!

I'm honestly a bit worried about the physical too, I have back issues! It's a "safety sensitive" job working with youth ages 9-17.

Wooo, Minnew! So exciting! :D

Thanks Mal!

Good luck on your drug test!

I just had a flashback to the nightmare of a job the home health service place I worked at. I worked in the office doing scheduling but also drug testing. Ugh... All of the "riggers" that would come in for their drug tests.... Ugh....then some of them would try to score a date at the same time...

I HATED that job, the boss was a nightmare I only did it for month before I got my gov job @ at youth facility, can't say I love the crazy hours but loved the people, both co workers and youth.

Yay Joyce!

I am getting drug tested tomorrow and when I pass that, I'll have a 3 month temp contract with the courthouse. :D

Good luck with the job interview joyce!

I got a drug test & physical test on Wednesday... Yay... Lol... The job offer is of course contingent on that. If I pass I start March 1st! Woohoo!

My husband successfully renewed his CDL and his biometrics are finished (he was able to do a walk-in). Now we just need to get his passport issue taken care of and get the tags on the car renewed and then we can FINALLY relax for once.

That is great news! Yes please do relax after all of this! I know how stressed you were through all
of this!

Good morning everyone! I have a job interview this afternoon!! I am excited about the prospect of this job! We shall see...

I also have another one tomorrow, but I am still trying to figure out if the commute every day would be worth the salary....I shouldn't be complaining as I haven't worked since September...a job is a job..its in my field of work ...its $$.....But its definitely not something I want to do for the rest of my career either...Commuting 30 minutes each way not counting traffic...My car is very fuel efficient, but I would be filling up at least 1x a week if not more...there goes $100-120 in gas a month from my already crappy wages....*sigh*

Still haven't heard from the other interview last week! :crying: I'm going nuts in anticipation for all three jobs right now!
