I have called NVC twice, once they told me its not there and it takes 2-4 weeks to receive them, the second time they told me 4-6 weeks!! blink.gif I tried calling today but it was busy ALL DAY!! I wonder if you call USCIS they would be able to tell you if its been mailed to NVC? I am just so anxious, I want to get this interview over already! I should be safe setting a wedding date? At least the venues said that if we put down a deposit it can be rescheduled if October doesn't work out! Arrggh!

Wow so much to catch up on after only 2 days! Just wanted to check in! I am in Omaha visiting my fiance until April!! Unfortunately he still has to work some days while I am here so I will be around! I am going to wait to call NVC until tomorrow, and with hopes it has already been sent to Vancouver! Meeting with the pastor on Saturday and scouting out wedding venues too! Im so excited! smile.gif The POE at the airport was seriously the easiest I have ever been through, asked me two questions, stamped my passport and I was on my way! All that freaking out for nothing! Congratulations to the newest approved and good luck to those still waiting I am praying for you all, rest assured it will come!

Speaking of NVC....does it matter if the petitioner or beneficiary calls NVC for information on the case? I know that USCIS it must be the petitioner, but was just wondering. I am trying to hold off asking my fiance (USC) to call NVC, I am just too impatient! Well back to packing for the flight to Omaha tomorrow!!

My fiance and I actually thought about Vegas as well, but not an "on the strip" kind of wedding and reception. We looked into a few different places, and thought it would be a nice vacation for all involved, but ultimately decided on Omaha since its "right in the middle" between both of our families, and its where we will be living. That was the main thing in planning this wedding was that it would be fair for all parties in terms of travelling and expenses, which also means there will be lots of out of town guests, but also alot who won't be able to afford to come. I am not setting up a gift registry for this reason, because my gift will be if you can be there to share our special day. I just realized that with the small amount coming (60-80) we will be able to afford a hosted bar because of the food and beverage minimums at some of the places we are looking at. Most of them had a minimum of $3000 F&B.

Where are all the NOA2s!!! I hope more January filers start to see some soon!

As usual you guys were ahead of the curve! I logged in especially this evening, figuring that Saturday mail might have been checked and/or time spent on VJ updating things -- Oh this is so exciting!!!! I'm going to have to limit how frequently I check my case status online. Do you suppose that 5 times per day is reasonable? Plus actually check the snail mail...

Funny, 2 weeks ago, I thought 90 days was really fast and the best I could hope for. A few days ago it was 70 days, now I'm hoping for 60!!!!(AIIIEEEEEE!!!)

I'm so glad that we have these threads where we can post all our spaz attacks about waiting and hoping without bothering the general forums. smile.gif

-H

Hehehe 5 times a day sounds about right to me! LOL! Now I am starting to wonder if I will get an email update or case status change online as the most recent approvals did not! I called my fiance to ask him if he checked the mail!! Who knows we could be the 12th or 13th and the approval notice is sitting somewhere with USPS! Ok I need to calm down!!!

Whooooo  EAD card arrived today!! I'm going to call EI on Monday and see the best way to send the info. ( fax or email ) And the fact it's a plastic card!! Guess I wasn't around if anyone else posted about that..

Oh I do hope that means I'll see a deposit in my bank account soon!! I'll have to clear up the issue of name too. Card is in married and report cards are in my other one. I hope a copy of the marriage license will do the trick. We'll go by the SS office on Tuesday and get my SSN card in my married name too. That might prove to be interesting....

Hi Joyce! All my EI information is still in my maiden name, my GC copy I sent them is in my married name, they never asked to see a marriage certificate. My bank info and all of that is still in maiden name as well. (TDCanada Trust has the most ridiculous policy that name changes be done IN PERSON!!!) So I won't be changing anything in Canada until I return to visit!

I believe the date of your claim starts on the date the EAD was approved, then there is a mandatory 2 week waiting period, which by the time you have received it, it probably has been 2 weeks. So hopefully you get some $$ soon! Give Donna a call and ask for the best way to send a copy of EAD, she might call you back with the fax #. The email I sent her was because 2 days after I faxed mine it hadn't shown up yet.

First EI check came today!

So a question for you all...When I log onto My Service Canada Account...even though my claim has been approved, and my first payment has come through it still says I have no active claim when I log onto SCA. Do residents outside Canada have access to online account information? I know that we cannot do online reporting but its still frustrating!

Yipeeee!!!!! *dances* just got off the phone with EI!!! Approved my claim, took my December reports & direct deposit of 2 weeks benefits should be in a few days!!!! FINALLY!!! Sounds like I'm getting close to the max benefit.... But dang 25% nonresident tax!!!!

Hopefully I won't need EI for too long! I have a job interview tomorrow!!! :))))

Got a call from Donna today from interstate claims office. I had sent my fax on the 5th of January and she said they had still not received it... Weird.... She says there's so many fax's coming through, and sometimes they get lost. She asked me what # I faxed to and it was the one Wis-can posted She gave me her email address to scan a copy of my GC because she didn't want to wait another day. It sounds like to me I will do my last reports over the phone with her, because I still haven't received any of Decembers report cards!

Hopefully I will be getting $$ soon!

Thank you Carla for your response. That was I was gathering would happen just wanted to clarify. Me + taxes= headache!

It would not make sense to have to file with CRA I will be filing my leaving canada return for 09 tax year, and no Canadian income for 2010.
minnewFemaleCanada2010-01-04 21:04:00
CanadaThe Canuck EI Thread
Ok I just spent an hour reading through zyggys income tax thread from last year and am still confused a bit. I plan to file my leaving Canada return for 09 tax year as I moved to the U.S in Sept, and will be a resident alien for tax year 09 because of green card test (Just got approved for GC this month & EAD)

So my question is when you receive EI(which I'm not at the moment) is the 25% nonresident tax already taken out? If I fax a copy of my GC, they approve my claim and begin to receive EI in 2010 will I have to file a 2010 tax return with CRA for receiving EI?

I will have no other income in Canada for the year 2010, I'm thinking it would not make sense to have to file with CRA ESP if EI already has 25% nonresident tax.

Any thoughts?
Thank you in advance!

I received a phone call from EI last week on my old cell phone, saved the voicemail but then forgot the next day my account was going to be deactivated! Ugh! I received a letter from EI today dated last week saying that my claim has been denied because I need proper work authorization..blah..blah...but at the bottom of the letter it said once EAD has been received, the claim may be reconsidered! Let's hope I actually don't have to use EI, but its nice to know its there just in case!

Ok so I also got another letter from EI today, saying that my maximum allowable benefit is 38 weeks, which is fine and dandy I don't want to use EI unless absolutely necessary! They also sent me more report cards! You guys know I am not LEGALLY allowed to work! Ugh!

Question for you all: I think I already know the answer to this....but for "other monies received" on the report cards do I have to include $$ received as GIFTS from our wedding? Some of it was cash, so no way to really track it, but some were checks written out to either Mr.&Mrs. or just Mr. Can I just claim that my husband received most of it? Everything we received was split in half between the two of us.

Sapphire- I haven't even gotten around to changing my name with Canadian bank and after reading about your experience with TD, I am less than enthused that you have to appear in person for a legal name change! Arggh

How is customhouse supposed to work if you have your married name on your account in the U.S.A and you want to transfer funds back to Canada.....but TD won't let you change your name! *Pulls out hair* (Student loans and GMAC)....When I start working again this should be interesting.... mad.gif

When I first set up customhouse, I used my married name on my US account and my maiden name on my Cdn. account and they had no issues with it.

I hope you have better luck with TD!

Applied for EI and since then they have sent me out a letter asking about when I entered the country and K-1 visa and another letter with 2 report cards. There are 2 different addresses listed on each of the reply envelopes...I send one back to Kingston...and my report cards back to Belleville? I don't get it!

Which brings me to my next question...I have logged onto My Government Accout and see that my employer submitted my ROE electronically...Do I have to send my original ROE then? If so, which address do I send it to?

When I did my online application, stupid me didn't submit my banking information. Which address would I send a void cheque to?

The my government account site won't let me add any bank information because it says invalid and I do not have an active claim...hence they have no received my mail yet!

Today received two text messages and two emails. First one this afternoon saying they have mailed new card. Just after 6pm received another saying USPS picked up letter containing new card. Last email says should get the card within 7 days. Woot!

I don't know if there is a pattern for csc and those who signed up for case updates via text and email but thought. I would share.

I sincerely hope all those still waiting hear some good news soon. This has been the longest most stressful experience of them all.
