I know.... you're saving it for the big baseball game, right? The rolled up X-Ray in the tube will be your bat??? laughing.gif

I remember the receptionist at the clinic in Vancouver told me to keep the vaccination record that the Dr. signed off on and bring that and the chest X-ray when you cross the border. I didn't have much time to ask her why she said that as I had to get to the Consulate, but my thought was...a border guard really going to ask to see a chest X-ray? I don't think so.... Oh well...for now its in my closet along with my envelope that says DO NOT OPEN. I really need to put it in the freezer! I am afraid it might get lost though in there! laughing.gif

Your family will always love you and support you, you or they can always visit.

How Strange. I got my instructions, for the Vancouver Consulate, in early May, telling me where to go on the website, to fill out my forms and 156 and 156K are on them of what to bring. This was the revised 05/06/09 forms. No mention of the ds-230. I'm going to guess that my instruction where sent out before the change? My interview is soon, and with no contact as to fill out the new form. I'll fill out the ones from the list and hope they're happy!! unsure.gif

I am confused TimandJoyce, did you fax back the DS-230 Part I to receive your interview date as it says in Step 1 of Packet 3? There is also the Part II of the DS-230 which I brought to the interview in case, and they took it, but I cannot remember if they made me sign that form when they collected my documents. I think there was two forms to sign in front of the person who collects the documents but which ones I cannot remember. I brought a copy of the DS-230 Part II, DS-156 (2 copies printed off) and the DS-156K to the interview.

Edit: Vancouver does not use the online DS-160, just the DS-156 and DS-156K

Ugh!! Now I understand your confusion!! Apparently I hadn't enough coffee yet!! I meant DS-160!!! Yeeshhh wacko.gif

laughing.gif Its okay, one can never have enough coffee during this process! I wonder why Vancouver stopped using the DS-160 even though on their website it says they use it, even though its not included in Packet 3....

CanadaWhich flag do you put out?
Well I answered the poll even though I am not living with my SO at the moment. When we did live together we put up the Canadian and American flag. We taped them both to the wall in the 2nd bedroom next to each other. Where he is currently living, as he moved to a different state the flags are up in the 2nd bedroom for when I arrive! He is very patriotic about the American flag as well, when we had to take it down he was extremely careful not to let it fall on the floor and he folded it up military style, he said that if it fell he would have to go outside and burn it. I think they said they tought him in basic training...anyways...That's something too he was very patriotic about, but at the same time got annoyed at if he got stuck on base trying to drive home, or to work in the morning and the base is at a standstill(cars pulled over, sometimes people standing outside their car saluting if they are in uniform because they have to) while the flag is lowered for the day and the american anthem is playing over the loudspeakers.

CanadaGirly thread (men beware!)
I got this in an email forwarded to me! It's hilarious! rofl.gif

This is funny and ain't it the truth!!

This is an actual letter from an Austin , Texas woman sent to the American company Proctor and Gamble regarding their feminine products. She really gets rolling after the first paragraph.

It's PC Magazine's 2007 editors'

choice for best webmail-award-winning letter.

Dear Mr. Thatcher,

I have been a loyal user of your 'Always' maxi pads for over 20 years and I appreciate many of their features. Why, without the LeakGuard Core or Dri-Weave absorbency, I'd probably never go horseback riding or salsa dancing, and I'd certainly steer clear of running up and down the beach in tight, white shorts. But my favorite feature has to be your revolutionary Flexi-Wings. Kudos on being the only company smart enough to realize how crucial it is that maxi pads be aerodynamic. I can't tell you how safe and secure I feel each month knowing there's a little F-16 in my pants.

Have you ever had a menstrual period, Mr. Thatcher? I'm guessing you haven't. Well, my time of the month is starting right now. As I type, I can already feel hormonal forces violently surging through my body. Just a few minutes from now, my body will adjust and I'll be transformed into what my husband likes to call 'an inbred hillbilly with knife skills.' Isn't the human body amazing?

As Brand Manager in the Feminine-Hygiene Division, you've no doubt seen quite a bit of research on what exactly happens during your customer's monthly visits from 'Aunt Flo'. Therefore, you must know about the bloating, puffiness, and cramping we endure, and about our intense mood swings, crying jags, and out-of-control behavior. You surely realize it's a tough time for most women.

The point is, sir, you of all people must realize that America is just crawling with homicidal maniacs in Capri pants... Which brings me to the reason for my letter. Last month, while in the throes of cramping so painful I wanted to reach inside my body and yank out my uterus, I opened an Always maxi-pad, and there, printed on the adhesive backing, were these words:
'Have a Happy Period.'

Are you f------ kidding me? What I mean is, does any part of your tiny middle-manager brain really think happiness - actual smiling, laughing happiness, is possible during a menstrual period? Did anything mentioned above sound the least bit pleasurable? Well, did it, James? FYI, unless you're some kind of sick S&M freak, there will never be anything 'happy'
about a day in which you have to jack yourself up on Motrin and Kahlua and lock yourself in your house just so you don't march down to the local Walgreen's armed with a hunting rifle and a sketchy plan to end your life in a blaze of glory.

For the love of God, pull your head out, man! If you have to slap a moronic message on a maxi pad, wouldn't it make more sense to say something that's actually pertinent, like 'Put down the Hammer' or 'Vehicular Manslaughter is Wrong.'

Sir, please inform your Accounting Department that, effective immediately, there will be an $8 drop in monthly profits, for I have chosen to take my maxi-pad business elsewhere. And though I will certainly miss your Flex-Wings, I will not for one minute miss your brand of condescending bullshit. And that's a promise I will keep.

Always. . .

Best,
Wendi Aarons
Austin , TX

Look at what you girls have done! LOL! Now I am seriously considering trying a bikini wax! I am not really sure what my pain tolerance is, i have been able to handle eyebrow waxing without too much flinching! I am so sick of using Nair and trimming the rest! and yes I am another person who uses the blowdryer on cool on a hot summer day...LOL!! I've got another 2 weeks before I visit him I guess that means i can only be lazy for another 2 weeks...damn!!

The only kind of waxing I can handle is the eyebrow waxing, and boy do they get red and irritated! For my bikini zone I just use Nair, haven't had a problem with it yet. I have tried eyebrow sugaring which feels the same as waxing but I guess it is supposed to be less harsh on your skin. Speaking of which my brows look really bad! Time to make an appointment!

CanadaThe joys and differences between US/CAN spelling...
I used to live in the US so I have already had some of the experiences already mentioned! I have gotten a few funny looks from store clerks..etc..I even got dinged on homework assignments in university in the U.S. because my spell checker of course did not pick up on the "extra" U in color, honor...etc...and I forgot it was different. mad.gif I guess eventually I adapt my ways whether I am here or there.

The most recent experience that my fiance and I are struggling with are the wedding invitations. I send him a template of how I will word the invitations, well he picked up on the "honour" and said it should be spelled "honor" (request the honour of your presence). What the heck am I supposed to do, send out separate invitations to US and Canadian guests? LOL. I told him I do not think the guests will pick up on it whether its spelled one way or another! wacko.gif

I am sure I called my Dad "daddy" when I was a child, but I agree for myself to call him "daddy" now is just weird. The only time I have used "daddy" is when I am sucking up to him to ask him for a favour. Like huggles said. "Daddy dearest do you think you could"...?

So I just went through a couple timelines and was wondering when should my husband get his "green card"??
Seems like recent members have gotten them in a matter of a few weeks.
We got the Visa (his CDN passport) on 30 April and activated it and crossed the border that same day.

He has already received his SSN... and he also received 2 welcome letters.
Should we be calling someone about the "green card"? and if so, who do we call?
Thanks so much. I'd be so lost without VJ!!!
Rena

I guess there has been some production delays with PR cards.

Kim

I'm wondering the same thing? I'm having the interview first, then the medical the next day. I'm curious whether or not they'll issue the visa after seeing the med results? Or will they have to mail it. I plan on leaving Wed. night for home. (Thank God for West Jet!!)

If there is no other things pending with your case then you will be approved but asked to come back the next day after 2 pm to pick up the visa, there have been some VJers to get their visa issued the same day. I am leaving today after picking up the visa (*knocks on wood*) to fly back, btw I am never flying Air Canada again! I have had it! So I am relaxing a bit this morning before leaving to head downtown Vancouver. If for some reason my Visa is not ready for pick up i will have to bring an Xpresspost mailer back to the Consulate.

The medical today in Vancouver was somewhat nerve racking today, just because as much as I have read it still was the fear of the unknown that made my hands quiver.
I was really lucky to met Minnew from here, a father and his two sons from Lethbridge, and the nice young lady from Edmonton - these folks are lurkers here. But after telling them of some of the great resource available, I am sure they might venture here a bit more.
I have nothing to add except that if you come too early you can't put money in the parking machine, however you can register you car and pay $10.00 on your credit card to get almost 12 hours on parking. You have to push a lot of buttons but well worth the hassel. As the payment is not assigned to any particular parking slot, but to the load as a whole it was great because I returned to Richmond after I was finished at 8 am and returned at 2 pm to pick up my results. So there is in and out priviledges.
I meet a woman, my age, who is having her interview in Montreal same day and same time, so it will be nice to see a familiar face their.

The bad news was my car died about half way home, had to send the nice lady Sonja on to the airport in a taxi but I got to have a ride in a neat kind of tow truck.

Janet

Hey carslo! It was so great to meet you today! I really hope some of the people we met today come to VJ as a resource! So much conflicting information out there about immigration procedures and moving to the U.S. Anyways, it was great to chat with everyone else as well to find out their stories and their journey's. I am sorry I rushed out of there so fast, it was bad enough that the medical results were late, like almost 2:45pm and I had to get to the consulate to drop them off! The medical was definitely nerve wracking, but the Dr. and Laura were absolutely wonderful, make you feel completely at ease, didn't take long at all. They were both very willing to help you out in any way possible even if it meant making a phone calls to the consulate. They didn't treat you like just a "number."

What time did you finally get out of the clinic with your results? Man the chest x-ray was hard to carry around!

CanadaHow often to you get to see your fiance/spouse?
For the first three years of our relationship everyday, we lived in the same town where I was going to school in the U.S. He went on a 4 month deployment early in our relationship, that sucked. After me moving back to Canada I or he would visit monthly as it was only a 4 hour drive. Since he got orders and moved to a new base in January of this year I flew down to visit him in March and stayed until the beginning of April. So April to end of September....too damn long in my opinion to wait.....the longest we will go seeing each other EVER. crying.gif We talk alot on the phone at varying times of day depending on his schedule as it changes alot. Trying to get back to using Skype with webcam ( I also have a long distance package with my local phone service) so we can at least "see" each other but again that only works if our schedules do not conflict.

CanadaDoing the whole dual citizen thing......
To add to my earlier post, If I do decide to apply for US citizenship it will be for reasons of my children, but also due to my future hubbys employment in the AF. I am starting to wonder how citizenship would affect my ability to live and work overseas if he were to get orders to say Germany or Japan? I heard somewhere that citizenship may be expedited even if you haven't met the time requirement if he does have overseas orders. I also hope that they keep the policy that spouses do not have to officially renounce citizenship if your husband or wife has security clearances, as that would affect me greatly.

To all of my Canadian friends I have a question regarding the US customs preclearance. Which airports in Canada offer the preclearance?
I am trying to decide which itinerary to go with for a flight I want to book in April to the U.S. I have visited once while I was "processing" and had no troubles, had a bunch of proof of ties but they never asked to see them, BUT this was a land border, I have never gone through an airport customs, but now I have to because he lives 15 hours away. Getting turned away frightens me, and even more so if I was in the U.S. when it happens. All I want to do is spend time with him, search out wedding venues and (hopefully) at that time if we know we are approved get started on the stuff for package 3 together (I-134).

Which airports in Canada offer the preclearance? Once I fly into the city that has the preclearance do I need to recheck my bags because it will be considered an international flight?

Option 1 itinerary: Fly from city in Canada with no preclearance to Minneapolis, then on to my destination. (1 stop)
Option 2 itinerary: Fly from city in Canada to an airport with preclearance (so far the options on Air Canada will take me to Winnipeg, Calgary or Edmonton), Fly to connecting hub in the U.S., then fly to my destination. (2 stops)

btw Option 1 and 2 are relatively the same price right now....but those could change any day now, actually I would consider this a sale!

Any suggestions? advice?

Thank you

Most Canadian airports now have US preclearance... The only one I am aware of into MSP that does not is Thunder Bay....

Here is the list
http://www.cbp.gov/x...r_locations.xml

Just looked at the list....there is no SK airports with preclearance sad.gif

At least if i got turned away in Calgary I would still be in Canada!

CanadaLooking for Support, or Not!
Just my two cents Carla,

After working for 26 years and caring so much for others, its time to take care of yourself and you have been! Congratulations on being healthier! Maybe some of your guilt is because there are so many people out there that don't have the luxury of not being able to work and access to money, but it is nothing to feel guilty for, you have worked hard and put in your time! My father is retiring at the end of the month and he's only in his mid 50's! but he's worked for SaskPower for 35 years! I think you are still attempting to care about others in a way that you have no control over, this recession has hurt alot of people! Anyways, hope you are doing well and take care!

You wake up, start the truck and THEN hop in the shower.

It's -45 outside and you're still in the mood for a Slushie.

Your car trunk doubles as a deep freeze. (This is too true - one more day of nice weather last week and that would have been the end of my turkey!

You spend more time and money planning for Craven than for Christmas.

Your town buys a Zamboni before a bus.

You see no problem in cheering for Edmonton during the NHL season and despising Edmonton during the CFL season.

Your idea of a traffic jam is 10 cars waiting to pass a combine on the highway.

You remember Beep.

The annual family reunion is at the Labour Day Classic.

You don't find anything funny about the word "Regina."

You've been playing crib since you were eight.

You are asked if you know "Chris" from "Maymont," and you do.

The wedding date is changed after the Riders release their home schedule.

The local paper covers national and international news on one page but requires six pages for hockey.

You are upset when an outsider doesn't know the difference between a farmer and a rancher.

You live in a house that has no front step, yet the front door is one metre off the ground... no-one uses the front door anyway.

Your home town has a fully functional hockey rink, curling rink and church, but the school is closed.

Driver's Ed was a joke because you and your classmates had been driving since you were 10.

Your first car was pulled out of the bush, given a shot of ether and a can of Wynn's.

You say, "Ring those phones!" and "Where are we going?" and everybody knows to shout: "Higher!"

Whenever you're going to a buddy's place anywhere but Regina or Saskatoon, it's "just off Main Street."

90 per cent of your tools were bought at Princess Auto and the other 10 per cent at the local Co-op

Ahhh Saskatchewan born and raised! I can totally relate to most of those but I am from the city!!

I can't stand it when people start giggling when I say I am from Regina! With the weather being back in the deep freeze I can totally relate to starting the car that early, I wait until I can blowdry my hair which takes 10 minutes!!

Ring those phones!! Heheh Telemiracle is on March 7th and 8th in Saskatoon, I can't wait to see it on TV there are some really good local performers on and I think Doc Walker will be there!

Hey Flames didn't you say you'll be heading to Saskatoon sometime in March? Can't miss Telemiracle if you are! LOL

I always get the 20 questions too, but its always at land borders, I am going through the airport next month! I think some of it is because we look young I am in my early 20's as well. Like someone else said saying "fiance" gives you the opportunity to state you intentions to apply for legal immigration into the US. The last time I went through I was asked about it and I said yes we just applied for the petition for the k-1 visa. He then asked what embassy I would be going through and I told him. CanadaWorking and expenses in the U.S.
When I worked in the U.S. I was making waaay less than what I could have been making in Canada for the same field of work. We will be living in a different state once I move down there again, but looking at the wages I will be making about half the amount I have been earning in Canada, which sucks! I guess that's the trade-off for falling in love with an American! The rent and utilities are way less than in Saskatoon or Regina and we will have almost 1200 sq ft of space! When I worked in the U.S I was a state employee and the only perk to that was having all of your medical benefits covered, the only thing you had to pay for if you wanted it was vision/dental benefits. I won't have to worry too much about the medical benefits as I will have Tricare once I am married, could I still elect to have state medicals benefits if I got a state job? Is it okay to have double coverage? I've never really cared too much about money as long as I am happy with what I am doing in my job, and as long as I can live comfortably and pay my bills. EI will sure come in handy when I move! But we will still be okay even if I get denied EI benefits. I however do NOT like the idea of only 6 weeks maternity leave! Absolutely ridiculous!! The cost of daycare is ridiculous!

CanadaCanadian marrying US military
QUOTE (Neophyte282 @ Feb 14 2009, 10:38 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I'm doing the AoS. I'm filling out the I-130, I-485 and I-765 along with the I-131.I really think I need to take these papers to someone, I'm really confused with some of the questions. Like when it asks for info on the I-94. All my passport says is date of entry Jan 16, 2009 and I am given a B2 visa. I know they say it's 6 months I can stay, but I don't know the exact date when it will expire. It asks for an employer and I don't have one. I applied for EI and they are trying to tell me I don't qualify but I know I have enough hours when they say they don't.. so I guess I just leave that area blank. And when it comes to addresses, I'm not too sure whether i should put my US address where I will be living on all of them or my one in Canada. Some fields specify for the Canada or US one, others don't. It asks if we are married where we last lived together, and that is where I am now (we rented an apartment and I can't put my name on the lease until I have a SSN) so I'm not sure if I should put that since my status is still visitor. And the eligibility categories for the I-765... I have no idea where to find that.

This takes me to the evidence of Bonifide marriage. Since I can't go on the lease, I can't use that. But I have been buying stuff for the apartment and paid for part of the deposit for the lease... maybe I can use that for proof... ack, so overwhelmed!

Oh ya, does my husband need a copy of his birth certificate or SSN card? He can't find them. sad.gif

Congratulations on the marriage! My fiance is US military as well, originally from GA! Put your current address as the US address that you will be living with your husband. For the G-325 A you must list all of your previous addresses. Your status will be pending adjustment of status, can't remember what the code is but its in the instructions for the I-765. If you don't have a joint lease because of the SSN issue for the proof of bonafide relationship you could get sworn affadivits from family members, friends, a witness that attended the wedding. You could also make a copy of your military dependent ID card with your married name on it.

Anyways, hope this helps, take a look at the guides and also the example forms on VJ they were a great help to me when my fiance and I filled out the forms for the I-129F petition. Good luck!

oops I forgot to add that for the I-130 your husband will need to make copy of his birth certificate or a copy of his passport, my fiance lost his and it took about 2 weeks for him to receive a new one! This time he ordered three! LOL

Fast food places that I love are White Castle and Chick Fil-A. I wish there was a Chick Fil-A near us in NY, when we were n Florida on vacation we ate it like 3 or 4 times in one week, LOL.

When I was down in GA visiting my fiance's family I saw a Chick Fil-A and had never eaten there before so I suggested we eat there for lunch. Instead of being a normal person and saying "Chick Filet" I said it exactly how its advertised Chick Fil-A.....my fiance burst out laughing in the food court and said this is not a sports brand...its filet...not FILA!!! He says sometimes I must have a few blond strands in my hair! LOL!

Well I had Outback Steakhouse for the first time 2 weeks ago....it was okay....nothing too special about it.

Longhorns steak....mmmm....melt in your mouth! By far the best steak I have ever had!!

Olive Garden is another one of my favourites!

There is a place not too far from where my fiance lives....and I think its a local restaurant but I could be wrong....called Amarillo BBQ. So tasty! and of course messy! The cornbread that comes with your meal and your sides is like the size of your meal...no joke... a BLOCK of it!

CanadaCorner Gas Club
My fiance (USC) loves Corner Gas! When I first introduced him to the show I thought he wouldn't find it funny due to the "Canadian" humour. He loves it! I think one of his favourite shows was the one about the cell phones... laughing.gif

I like how Regina sounds like... nevermind. happy.gif

I'm so glad I'm not the only warped one out here. Not knowing where this place was or how to pronounce it a few years ago, I pronounced it Regeena. My husband was quick to correct me on the pronunciation and to tell me where it's located. I never heard where it was located because I was too busy laughing at the pronunciation and to this day, I still giggle my a$$ off. It's good to be juvenile sometimes. laughing.gif

laughing.gif You have no idea how many times I have heard that it rhymes with another word! tongue.gif
