Minnew, there's a doctor in Vancouver. Where are you living? You could have your medical done at the same time as your interview. That's what I did and it worked out rather well!

I'm in SK! Yeah I am going to have to work around that!

Thank you for the information! Good luck on your interview!

Hey guys! I am waiting for my Packet 3 to arrive and received my VAC case# through NVC a few days ago. I was lurking around trying to find out requirements for packet 3 and stumbled upon instructions to download Packet 3 if you have received a letter from the Vancouver embassy.

http://vancouver.usc...document=fiance

What I was also suprised to see when I clicked on Packet 3 on the website was that the latest Revision date was 3/30/09! 2 days ago!

So just a heads up for anyone going through Vancouver consulate! I know there were a few from the January CSC filers thread! Look forward to hearing about your progress!!

I am still in the US visiting my fiance until Monday so I think I will wait until next week to send the checklist back by fax, I want to see if I can get a new passport first.

Can I send the checklist back by fax even if I haven't received a hardcopy letter from VAC that my petition has been received?

Hmmm... they've removed the evidence of support requirement from the checklist... strange...

I was wondering about that too!

its better if you send Vanc Consulate an email and make sure that packet 3 is on your way and that your petition is not in transit anymore from NVC to VAC. dont fax the checklist too early. make sure you actually get started on what's on the checklist first. (ie. pay the $131 & get the receipt, fill out DS160, and i believe there's more forms if you're doing K1) Book your medical exam first as they book 2 weeks in advance and only do it on wednesdays. You will need a letter from packet 3 when you go to your medical exam. so when you ask for an interview date, make sure its after the medical exam or i think some applicants can do their medical exam and interview on the same day but that's just a lot of running around imo.

and o yeah... it took a day for me to get an interview after i faxed the checklist. I just emailed them if they got my fax and if i was already booked for an interview and they told me i was!

Thank you for the information! I will email them if I don't receive my letter sometime next week. I already have some of the forms filled out except the DS-156. On the checklist with REV 3/30/09 it doesn't have the DS-160 listed, but the DS-156 and the DS-156K with the DS-156 you can do online. I wonder if they are having problems with the DS-160?? Unfortunately I have to wait to book my medical until I know my interview date because I am travelling from SK and have to do it all in 2 or 3 days, and its the only doctor left in Western Canada! sad.gif I will make sure to note that when I send the checklist back.

I almost felt as though saying fiance at the boarder made crossing easier for me then when I said boyfriend. If I stated I was going to visit my boyfriend I would get annoying questions like, "have you ever met him?" or "have you been to Colorado before?" as if they were judging us and the circumstances of our relationship. After the engagement, I would say I was visiting my fiance and I never got more than 1 or two simple follow up questions.

Same situation for me! I got the 20 questions when I said BF...not fiance good.gif

CanadaClarifications of Strong Ties
Like JillA said just call him your fiance, because if you say that you have applied for a K-1 fiance visa the border guards may look at that as misrepresentation.

The last time I went through was in an airport...was asked two questions and I was on my way. Who are you going to visit? When will you return? The second last time I crossed the border was by land I was asked some questions about my fiance and where we were in the process of the K-1. The guard asked what consulate I would be going to for the interview, and also stated that it was "illegal to marry in the US without a visa." I wanted to correct him so badly when he said that! Anyways, I brought a letter of employment as well, but was never asked for anything furthur.

I did not have a lease agreement either as I live at home, so I got my parents to type me up a letter stating that I was living there and for how long, that I have expressed the intent to them to return to Canada, and that our wedding is planned for October in the USA, after the K-1 is issued.

Enjoy your visit!!

I wrote ASAP on my interview request sheet expecting that my interview would be about 30-40 day's at the soonest. Not so however, I'm in on the 25th of August. Very exciting but also lights a bonfire under my butt to tie up all these loose ends. From now on I'll think twice about the use of the term "ASAP".

Wow, that's great! I'm sending in my P3 info to Vancouver this week and wanted an early interview too...looks like I may get it!

Good luck with your interview and medical!

You too! dancin5hr.gif

Here's confirmation from the consulate in case anyone cared about whether you could do the medical first and expect to be able to pick up your visa:

We can do your interview on 25th August, you will be required to bring the medical results on Wednesday, 26th August 2009 between 2:00 – 2:30 pm as results are given same day in the afternoon at 2:00 pm. Your visa will not be ready for pick up same day as we need two business days to process the application. If approved, you can either collect your visa on Friday or we can mail it to you.

Two business days? What the heck! Its supposed to be next day Visa pick-up! Unless they changed it? Maybe its just a disclaimer, mine was ready next day, maybe it depends on the case?

This is the response I got in May when I asked:

Generally, it takes one business day to process your approved visa. As a result, your visa may not be ready until Thursday at 2PM. You will have the option to pickup the visa in person at the Consulate or have it mail to you via pre-paid Xpresspost.

I had to book my medical for the day after the interview I've read here many times that that's okay. Just wanting to confirm that it's okay and that I don't need to contact the consulate ahead of time and get special permission to do that.

Thanks for any answers!

Couldnt you reschedule your medical for an earlier time before the interview?? I have heard of cases where the consulate will accept you then request medical tho'.

Medicals in Vancouver are only done on Wednesdays, if they have high demand they may do Thursdays, but generally once 1x a week.

Nope you do not need any permission to have your medical done after your interview. Thats what I did and worked out great for me! They will give you a letter of authorization to return to the consulate and they will mark on the letter that you are bringing medical results.

If your travel plans allow to do so stay the extra night so you can pick up your Visa on Thursday, if not then the consulate will accept an Xpresspost mailer as well when you drop off your medical results on Wednesday.

I have read of some people getting lucky and the consulate having their Visa ready for them on Wednesday when they returned with their medical, but again I wouldn't count on it.

A friend of mine has just gotten engaged to her AF officer-in-training boyfriend. Or he might be a full officer by now, not sure. Either way, probable military expedite possible.

This also means she's going to be starting her own K-1 process. She has some questions I can't answer, but I am hoping our Canadian forum can help!

Has anyone ever run into issues with having depression or anxiety in their medical history? They tried out some meds, they didn't do much, so she's not medicated and doesn't currently have those issues.

Also, garadsil; she's 26, so she'll need at least the first shot before her interview, correct? Or is it just first shot before AOS?

She's quite stressed about the depression/anxiety impact on their case, can anyone offer personal experience?

Thanks!

I believe its the first shot before her interview, I am not too sure though, someone else may be able to answer that better.

Does the officer in training boyfriend have deployment orders? or possible deployment in the future? Thats the only way to apply for an expedite. I believe you can apply for an expedite even if you don't have a copy of the orders yet. The military helpline for USCIS may be a better help.

If she has a family doctor/psychiatrist I know that a letter is allowed for the medical exam to attest to treatment, diagnosis and prognosis, the depression/anxiety must be reported, also suicide attempts or thoughts, whether it will be an issue for inadmissability probably not. It may delay her case, but I have only read of a few VJers where that happened. There are a few threads about it under US Embassy and Consulate.

CanadaMy Florida DL experience
Looking at this thread reminded me of what I need to do to get a Nebraska state licence! Well just peeked at the website and they are introducing new "security" measures June 22, 2009 and the price of drivers licences are going up to implement the security intitatives! Argh!

http://www.dmv.ne.go...icationdocs.pdf

The one requirement that I am confused about is:

5. A valid, unexpired Record of Arrival and Departure in a valid foreign passport (I-94 or I-94A). If the I-94 or I-94A is stamped “Refugee” or the place of origin is Canada, the valid foreign passport is not required. Visas, Form I-151, I-94W or I-94 Border Crosser will not be accepted.

Are they saying a K-1 visa with 90 days validity for I-94 will not be accepted?

Looks like the only other way I will get my licence is the EAD card, or the other required for U.S proof of identification, when I get my military spouse ID card. Oh jeez I hope they don't require a state DL for a military ID card! wacko.gif wacko.gif

I'm quite new to Illinois, moved here only last Oct.
I've since learned some interesting things though.

-The Chicago River was forced to flow backwards. It naturally flowed eastwards into Lake Michigan. But in the 19th century it was used as a sewer and all the waste would flow into the Lake. Drinking water was pumped from the lake. Not a good situation. So engineers actually reversed the flow of the river in reverse, so the Chicago river now flows westward and ultimately drains out to the Mississippi. Hence Chicago sewage flows to downstate Illinois and St Louis. Let them deal with our #######. laughing.gif

- We now have an unelected and unwanted junior Senator, Roland Burris, who did his darndest to buy the position, and got it anyway despite not having needed to pay up.

- The Worlds Fair in 1893 was Chicago's chance to prove to the world that it could rock with the best of them. The previous Worlds Fair in Paris introduced the world to the breathtaking Eiffel Tower. In an effort at one-upmanship Chicago introduced the world to a new invention called the Ferris wheel. It was a massive structure which towered over the city, with cars large enough to serve meals in.

- Mrs. O'Leary's cow did not kick over the lantern that started the Chicago fire. That's a myth. The city of Chicago formally apologized to the descendants of Mrs. O'Leary for the smear.

As to Ontario ,

- Highway markers were marked "The King's Highway" even during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. But last time I was driving there I think that logo has been removed from Highway markers.
- The license plate motto is "Yours To Discover". The old one I remember as a kid was "Keep it Beautiful". I prefer the old one!
- The Rideau Canal was built in the years after the War of 1812 when there were still strong fears of an American invasion. The ideas was to bypass the St. Lawrence River and have a shipping route further north that would connect to the Ottawa River.
- Laura Secord is not just a candy shop. She was a spy who crossed American lines without being inspected at the border. ICE agents then deported her back to Canada as an illegal laughing.gif (ok, just a little US immigration humor for VJ)

Where I am moving to in NE, if you are from NE you are known as a Cornhusker thanks to their football team. They are crazy about the Cornhuskers!! When I was looking at wedding venues that had F& B minimums, one of the ladies was telling us how the min and max dollar amount varies weekend to weekend and it all goes by the NE Cornhuskers football schedule! If there isn't a game then the F&B min is higher because then I guess couples will want to get married that weekend rather than on a game day! wacko.gif There was one venue that had installed TV's in it so that if couples do decide to get married on a game day that their guests can watch the game during the reception. blink.gif It was a very nice modern looking place too!

Do you still have the ND license? Is it still valid? Because an out of state licensing issue can be very different than an out of country licensing issue.

I dont know if anyone can help me out but it would be really cool if they could lol.

Im going to be moving to Nebraska, Bellevue.

I have a canadian G2, I was thinking to get my G but it will cost me 100$ and I read that most states make you take the writen and drivers test again anyways? Does anyone know if they do that in nebraska? Or do they just convert over my license to their state license? (would be really nice )
I searched all over nebraska DMV website but i cant find anything anywhere about changing it over at all!!

It will be a waste to pay 100$ and then just have to retest completely for a license there.
I dont have alot of cash and its tapping us out pretty quickly specially saving for AOS lol.

Did you say Bellevue?!?!?! I thought I was the only one moving to NE!! Woot! Another Canadian!! biggrin.gif

I emailed the DMV a while back about the licence issue and they really did not give me a definitive answer. The answer that I got was that the DL does not expire based on immigration documents. That could all be changing though due to the new laws going into effect in NE July 20th I believe. You will need 2 items for proof of residence and an SSN. The licence will no longer be handed out to you at the time of applying, you will get it in the mail instead. I think for the US based ID requirement we may be able to use military dependant ID.

I do not know if they will accept the K-1 I-94 that is only good for 90 days. I have read in other states the I-94 needs to be valid for 6 months- 1 year for them to be able to get a licence. I asked them that too...and no freakin answer!! I really do not want to wait until my EAD, because I also have my car to import and register..within 30 days..but how can I drive a NE car without a NE licence? UGGH!! I really hope they do not make us do a road test! When I lived in ND and had to get the state licence the last year I was there, all I had to do was an eye exam.

But alot of the "same" products have HFCS which the Canadian products don't, so it tastes different even though it has the same brand name.

What if there is a recall on my car between now and September? Likelihood probably not...would they notify me?

CanadaIMPORTING CANADIAN CAR WITH LIEN TO USA
QUOTE (neiks @ Jun 19 2009, 06:04 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I imported my GMC truck to the US and still had money owing to GMAC financing. I still made payments through my Canadian bank account to GMAC. I registered with my state had to pay the state sales tax and a fee to get it titled. I never inquired to GMAC if I could do it - just did it - maybe shouldn't have but I figured I was still making payments so what the hell. Crappy thing is that I paid 3 taxes on that thing....PST, GST and ND Sales tax.... plus the registration and title fee. I ended up trading it off a year later in the US- paid of the financing remaining and bought a US vehicle. Dealerships don't seem to favour a trade on a Canadian vehicle as they say it's going to cost them so much money to get the odometer changed over.

Just wanted to add that my situation is probably a little different as I still worked in Canda and drove the vehicle to work everyday - so I figured if they really needed to repo it they could get it.

I just spoke with GMAC today and they told me that I can get the compliance letter, but advised me of course that payments come out of a Canadian account. I have a co-signer on mine that will not be moving to the U.S. so if anything it would fall back on my mother. They also told me that the letter was free! I hope its still free when I call back in September!

I was a bit worried about being able to get the letter as I have heard some car financing companies do not want the car going to the U.S. if the car was financed with a low interest rate...mine was 0%, but didn't seem to be an issue for GMAC. *knocks on wood*

I know how you feel about the sales tax, I had to temp import my car for 1 year in ND after I graduated college, but was working on OPT...get dinged for 3 taxes, plus fees was not fun!!

I have a guy next to me that practically brings up 4-5 pounds of lung butter every day

That is so nasty. I think I'd be bringing up my lunch if I had to hear that all the time....

I don't mind a dress code at work... I wear scrubs, so comfy!

Lol I'm so jealous. I'd often considered changing careers just to be able to wear them haha.

Well scrubs I can't wear, but t shirts, jeans, capris (no shorts), sweatpants, but i have to be careful what colors and what colors are put together, also cannot be lower cut shirts either, even V-neck can be tricky. If you end up therapeutically restraining someone you don't want your boobs or butt hanging out! laughing.gif Nothing with crowns, numbers, only if its the full year like 1973. Due to working with teens some of whom are high-risk. My three favorite colors I have to be careful how I wear them, black, white and red!! :angry

Yep I agree with you on that one! I definitely don't like seeing boys walking through the mall with their boxers and butt showing either!

CanadaNot such a bad law if you ask me!
I remember hearing about a town that wanted to pass a law about keeping your pants up at your waist! The reason being is so many younger people (boys generally)wearing the jeans at their thighs with a belt on and then their boxers being in view because their shirts were not long enough! People were also complaining about the girls who wear their pants so low and have their thongs sticking out and don't have shirts long enough to cover!

I wonder if it ever passed! I remember seeing it on the news or Dateline or something!

CanadaGreetings from Montreal
Good luck Janet! You will do great! Enjoy Montreal while you can! I remember in Vancouver downtown near the consulate there was literally a Starbucks on every corner! It was a struggle to find a Tim Hortons! wacko.gif

CanadaEver wonder where your money goes?
My $$ is definitely going to be going towards the commissary on base when I get to NE! But less of it than I would fork over at Walmart or a local grocery store! Every time I have been in the commissary I am like a kid in a candy store! Most items are HALF the price than at local grocery store, some items remain the same, but it still a deal when you can spend almost 40 bucks less on your grocery bill! biggrin.gif

I will probably still shop at Walmart and Target, but not for groceries, maybe canned items, but thats probably it. I was shocked to see that WalMart sold liquor! Where I am in Canada they don't!

CanadaWearing shoes in the house?
It drives me bonkers that my fiance will not take off his shoes! He also grew up where it was not customary to take them off! I have got him to at least take off his sneakers at the door, sometimes it not until after he has brought in the grocery bags he will take them off. (and tracked the carpet and floor) wacko.gif
But his work boots! Ugh! He walks around the house in them until I finally say take them off! He will get on the phone after coming home and pace around the house! He can't sit still while talking! His work boots, well the tops of them are usually shiny, but the bottoms...yuck.... grease, dirt and jet fuel! Gross!! I don't want that tracked around the apartment!

I feel weird not taking off my shoes, even though his parents walk around with their shoes on, they say oh don't worry about it! I just can't bring myself not to take them off, unless I need to run in the house and get something really quick!

So I went to go see the movie "The Proposal" yesterday with stars Sandra Bullock and Ryan Renolds, I am a sucker for a movie with Sandra Bullock. It was actually funny and of course found myself to be the ONLY one giggling at some of the stuff to do with "immigration" in the movie (and I use that term loosely...the movies never get it right or way over exaggerated...)

My favourite line from the movie when she is being told she is deported..."Its not like I am an immigrant or something...I'm from Canada! laughing.gif

Oh and the part where she walks into a local USCIS office, storms to the front of the line and hands the guy a file and says "I'd like to apply for a fiance visa." wacko.gif

Overall cute movie, worth a watch! good.gif

I saw the video on MSN.ca this morning it was really cute, its called Melodius McDonalds Order, they were actually quite good!

i'm sure carla will be around to post the coffee tomorrow, so everyone should be safe. whistling.gif

Good morning everyone! Well charles....it's funny you should say that! I posted a cup of coffee one morning, as I have for hmm...what? Probably a year now? yes.gif and flames said it looked like someone had drank from it! I looked, and looked...and indeed, there was a drip on the rim of the cup so looked like someone had sipped from it. Of course flames pointed it out to me, and the grossness of it. laughing.gif Believe it or not, since then, I always look to make sure that it looks like a "fresh" cup! laughing.gif Too funny!

Well, this morning I'll post something different since I'm very homesick these past few days.

Billed as Canada’s largest coffee pot, it is capable of holding 150,000 8-ounce cups of coffee.

Because Davidson is the “midway point” between Saskatoon, Regina & Moose Jaw, the coffee pot attraction was commissioned to symbolize Davidson's friendliness & famous prairie hospitality. Before Highway 11 was twinned, it passed through Davidson which was a popular rest stop when traveling between the two cities. In fact, the town still plays host when groups from those cities need to have a meeting.

There you go...

I have such a busy week this week getting chores done and wrapping up my volunteer work before my vacation which starts Friday! Best get busy! Enjoy your day everyone!

ohmy.gif Wow! The amount of times I have travelled back and forth to Saskatoon from Regina on Hwy 11 and never noticed the huge coffee pot! I usually stop there for gas or for A&W. I am going to look for it the next time I head up there!

Have a great day everyone! My day is ending in a few hours...so sick of these night shifts! wacko.gif
