Anyone had the following error while trying to file for an e-request:

  • "Routing could not be determined due to an invalid receipt number"
I know the number is definitely correct: MSC + 10#.... :(

I did, I finally just had to call USCIS

Someone said ARN notifications seem to be happening where the petitioner is a naturalised US citizen. I don't know if that was debunked or not, but my husband is US-born and we haven't received an ARN update. The case 1 digit ahead of us has, however, and was transferred the same day as us, not that I know if that petitioner is naturalised or not, of course.

That isn't accurate. I was born in the US and got an ARN notice

Hey there people I have a question that you might be able to help me figure out. When my wife has to go for the interview in the US embassy in Colombia do I need to go with her? I am in the US.

I was wondering the same thing, since the NVC guidelines say your spouse has to to go but the petitioner doesn't...I'm thinking not, since it'd be hard for everyone to travel for one day but I'm not 100% sure. I was going to email our attorney when we got closer to it

Can't we leave it to a vote of the majority? LOL

I am ok with this! September filers should stay all together!

I'll add one more thing; there will not be a spreadsheet created on this thread for those of us who moved to the NVC stage. There's already a spreadsheet to track those in the NVC thread and I certainly don't want to step on the admin's toes and create confusion :)

Aww, not just gonna add columns to the existing one? Besides, I heard the NVC thread is no where as awesome as this one

Thank you for clarification, for us who's living overseas together there's no benefit unless AOS expedites the whole process, and it seems it does NOT.

I don't believe it does, it sounds like it actually takes a lot longer. We went for consular processing because it would drive my partner nuts not being able to work for 6-9 months

baime22FemaleAustralia2014-03-13 17:54:00

I also read someone speculating on AOS instead of waiting for IR-1 from overseas.

Is it really achievable? do we get same Greencard? I would like to see all benefits (and downside as well) AOS gives over IR-1 processing other than the fact that you could stay with spouse in the states.

It has the same result, but you can't work while waiting for an AOS. Well, you can but the paperwork for it is an additional like $600 and it takes about 6 months to process. Plus you do have to get into the country to be able to file for it. Plus it costs about $1500.

Fabulous idea!!! Ha!

I imagine its for more evidence of a bona fide marriage. I hardly sent anything in with the k3 paperwork, just some basics. I sent all the good stuff with the i130 packet that I sent off! I have no idea what to do with it haha. If my i130 moves along shortly with no problems, then I'll probably just skip the k3. I was just really hoping the k3 would come through so hubby could be here in July for the big day with no issues! Now we'll have to test our luck with VWP and customs...sigh..lol

We're in the same boat, our 'offcial' wedding is in Oct, hoping to be done by then for the same reason, you'll have to keep us posted =-) We were told not to bother with the k3 by the attorney though so the CR-1 is all we got
Course a birth is a bigger deal then a wedding, best of luck to you!

Someone posted a letter they wrote to their senator a little while ago, would that person be able to post it again so I can copy it and send it to mine?

I am so DONE with this winter! Apparently more snow is expected tomorrow!
Luckily, Minneapolis has a pretty large British population here so most things in England can be found here. Even the passive, nonchalant attitude LOL (I'm not from Minnesota, so it's taken getting used to)! I think my husband will adjust just fine :)

I would trade you in a heartbeat! I miss real winter and snow and skiing and having Xmas when it's cold. Luckily this was a mild Aussie summer but still had a 108 day with nasty humidity

Well...the Turkish food here is really good and Melbourne has amazing coffee, I'll miss that when we go home.
Oooo, I love Bulmers and Magners cider...ever had it with a shot of fireball whiskey in it? Yum!

I'd actually say it's better than a traditional tourist visa, because 1, the process is almost instantaneous or really speedy since it's all online (can't say it's the same for Aussieland though, only know about the UK), and 2, it's cheaper.

I hear ya on the whole wedding business. That's why we're here with the CR-1 instead of carrying on our lives after attempting the K1 route. We were misinformed on the processing times and had to get married bc we paid too much to lose it all on non-refundable deposits. Sigh.

I take the food here for granted I guess! It's almost the same in the UK, except they do have Mexican restaurants but all of the ones I went to made me scrunch my nose because it was just gross. lol

We'll have to give it a go. He was denied a visitors visa last year since he didn't have a job at the time but that's changed now, still no house in his name though. In kinda glad we aren't the only one who got bad info. The immigration attorney he spoke to said to just come back on the B visa, which got him turned around when he said he was getting married. Least he wasn't deported though. He just decided to come home xD
And yeah...I mean there's good food here but I was born and raised in SoCal...I miss taquitos and carnitas fries

Oh definitely. The UK is under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) so after a UK citizen applies through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), more than likely, they'll be approved for a waived-visa entry into the US. I don't remember how long it is good for, but he's reapplied once or twice before after it expired and never had any issues coming through *knock on wood*.

It looks like Australia is part of the VWP, so I would read up on it here: http://cbp.gov/xp/cg...l/id_visa/esta/

I'm assuming y'all had a civil marriage and are now planning for a traditional wedding? :)

Yeah, is there a better chance of being able to visit under the VWP then a traditional visa? And yeah, was meant to be all at once, last September actually but then all the hell happened and here we are. I hate the waiting away from all my friends and family but I really don't want to cancel the wedding. *sigh* guess we'll see how it goes.
And by the way...NO FAIR! I miss good Mexican food soooo bad. Its non existant here.

Heyzeus ... I complain about the 9-10 flight between Houston and London, could not IMAGINE doing all of those long-haul flights in one week! I feel like I need a week just to get over one flight. No wonder you went nuts! And yes, I get to take his Dad to places in TX he hasn't been yet so it'll be a nice little road trip with my new pops. Already counting down ...

I'm so glad to hear you will get a visit! It will help with the stress I'm sure! Is he coming to see you in the state? Was he able to get a visitors visa or...? We're trying to figure out what we're going to do of we're not done in time for our wedding. We had it all planned and paid for based on really bad advice from an immigration attorney that got my partner detained and then turned around at LAX. Hoping we can get him a visitors visa for like 3 months so we can have the wedding and come back after

I agree, except about the cost, we looked at the same type of paperwork here in Australia for me and it was over 3k, at least the US one isn't as bad as that. And Australia needs a lot more proof of relationship from what I've seen.

i told my wife to call USCIS as a few of you have done.

She said, they told her that our petition is not in CSC nor Nebraska etc... it's in Philadelphia Local office...

how can this be? arent all pettions going to servce centers?

someone can explain pls? thanks

As far as I've been lead to believe, local offices can process the I-130s and will sometimes get them to clear out the backlog. I know salt lake city had a few last year. This is just what I've been told though.

I think it will take about a year, so that puts us at October.

I'm the Aussie, and have only ever seen snow once - so the thought of a bleak, freezing winter instead of a summer of snorkelling is a bit daunting. My wife is of the same opinion too.

For us I think September is the make or break date for us to leave this year, and there is a slim chance that the USCIS can approve and process our application in 11 months.

I love the beach but I miss my snow skiing and mountain hiking and such, not overly fond of the heat.
I'm still hopeful for 9-11 months based on what our lawyer has said and looking at the timelines here, but if push comes to shove, we'll try to get him a B-visa to visit so we can have the wedding then come back and finish waiting, already had to put it off once...

We are October filers (living in Sydney) and reading this is quite exciting.

Nonetheless, I doubt we will get everything through until mid to late November, which presents the problem of leaving Australia on the verge of summer to hit the USA on the verge of winter!

I hope it doesn't take over a year...that would seriously blow. But...why is leaving summer to go to winter a bad thing? xD I like winter...real winter, not this winter.

Hi baime22
Where in Australia do you live? We are in Adelaide.
Out PD is 20 September. The excitement is too much to bear. Wearing down the battery on the iPad.

We are in Melbourne at the moment. Hoping and praying that we get the visa before my working holiday visa runs out at the end of July, if not then, hopefully by our wedding in Oct. And yes...we are so excited to finally see some movement.

Will all the transfers slow down the approvals or are they doing them as soon as they get them? Are any other centers even getting the initial petitions or are they all going to the NBC and now out to the other centers? Just curious.

Yes, I'm working here on a working holiday visa. My parents were going to have to sponsor him even if I had stayed in the us because my job didn't put me above the poverty line (sad I know). We filed everything from Australia in September. We also found a good attorney to help us through the process

It really sounds like agents get cases assigned as they come in and they work on them in order but some work faster through their queue then others for whatever reason and so get to later dates faster...it fits the kind of strange pattern we see
baime22FemaleAustralia2014-03-25 20:57:00

Aren't some countries faster to process because of shared intelligence or low fraud rates? That could explain some of the random appearing ones, agents get done with some faster and go to the next in their queue while another takes a few days longer before moving on to their next one

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresupdating I-864 for interview with new job?

Any ideas anyone?

I'm updating my I-864 for my husband to carry to his interview in May.  I was in India the first time I submitted, but have no re-domiciled to the US.  So I am updating that part.

But my question is in the income.  I just got hired in a temporary position for the next 6 months, I start in a few days.  I will change the status to "currently employed as:....." But then what do I do for current individual income?  I just have an employment letter and form stating my rate of pay.  It is only an hourly position as it is a temporary position.  Should I just calculate my hourly rate times 40hr week times 4 weeks times 6 months?

Or do I fill it out based on my status in 2013 since those are the taxes I just recently filed? And I have proof of those taxes in form of transcript & W2.

Thanks for the help!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionSneaky Interviewing agents?

Hello,

My husband and I are applying for his IR/CR-1 visa now, but when we met we were both working on a cruise ship.  His job was terminated eventually and his visa at the time, C1/D (crewman) was stamped "cancelled without prejudice" upon leaving the country.

From the travel.state.gov site, the stamp means there should be no restrictions on him applying for another visa, but I know sometimes the interviewing agents can be kind of nasty.  Will they/can they make an issue out of the cancellation of his C1/D visa during interview?  There was nothing criminal about his termination from the company, he simply wasn't conforming to company standards and this particular cruise line provides no official documentation to employees upon dismissal, so there is nothing but my husband's word to back it up.

We are just wondering if they can/or will make a big deal about it at the interview. We want to be prepared.
