K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresforeign fiance is paying student loans
My Chilean fiance is paying back student loans. He's not behind on the payments or anything, but I was wondering if this will affect them approving him for the K1 visa. Will he have to show a plan of how he will continue to pay his loans in Chile once he is in the states or something? Does anyone have experience with a similar situation or have any thoughts?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresco-sponsor procedures
Thanks so much for your clear response! We could do it one of two ways then, could you tell me what you think would be best??

1. I work in Chile for about 1,000 US dollars a month. And I have a money market account valued around 35,000 US dollars.

2. My Stepdad alone fulfills the requirements of being a sponsor.

So, if we go with the second option, that my stepdad is the cosponsor, do I myself still fill out the affidavit of support and provide documents??

Thanks again!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresco-sponsor procedures
Hi all,

I know there's a lot questions about the Affidavit of Support here on visa journey. I've been searching information, but was wondering if someone could help answer my question more specifically.

I understand that as the American citizen fiance, I will fill out the I-134 affidavit of support with necessary supporting documents as the primary sponsor. I am asking my stepdad/mom to be a co-sponsor, which means they will fill out the I-134 and sign it together. But how do we document that they are the "co-sponsors"?? Should I include some short letter explaining that they are co-sponsoring, or is it just understood?

Also, can anyone tell me 100% sure if the US Embassy in Santiago, Chile accepts co-sponsors?

Thanks a lot!

Ok, good point, thank you!

So, does anyone know specifically about the US Embassy in Santiago, Chile? Do they require a separate I-134 affidavit of support for children of beneficiary?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNeed separate I-134 for children?
Hi all,

I just want to be absolutely sure about this. My understanding is that the I-134 for the fiance also covers any children that are accompanying or following. Is that right? Or do I need to file a separate I-134 for my fiance's daughter?

Thanks much!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAffidavit of Support?!....
I have done a lot of researching on that topic because me and my fiance are in a similar situation. This is what I've read, and what we have decided to do: First of all, you, as the US citizen petitioner MUST fill out the I-134 affidavit of support with all supporting documents because of the sole fact that you are the petitioner for the visa. Now, if you are don't meet the $ guidelines, or are unsure that you do, some embassies (you should talk to someone who knows specifically about Colombia) allow a co-sponsor, which means, another US citizen (maybe your mom or whoever) fills out a separate I-134 affidavit of support with all her info and supporting documents. Both of the affidavits (yours and your co-sponsor's) are presented for the interview at the embassy. Hope that helps!

from what I understand the fee is always calculated in dollars in the amount of 350.00 US Dollars, so maybe they didn't fill it in, because the equivalent in euros might change from day to day?? Just a though.

Does anyone know if that fee must be paid twice if you are including a child? ie. 350.00 for fiance and another 350.00 for fiance's child??

Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-134 supporting documents
Hi all,

The form (I-134 affidavit of support) asks for value of real estate owned and amount of mortgage encumbrance. Do you think one should provide supporting documentation or just supply the numbers?

Thanks!!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresexperience
Hi all,

After so many months of asking questions, searching for answers and relying on other people's experience, I finally get the chance to give back a little bit. I just thought I'd share some of my experiences as we are awaiting our interview on August 31st. I am the petitioner, my fiance is the beneficiary, but I am here in Chile with him. He went for his medical last week with Dra. Grossman, and we give her a very positive review. She was kind, thorough, and didn't give us any problems. I went to the appointment with him, she asked him a bunch of questions related to medical history, etc as she jotted on a note card. Then she examined him and even had to note the size of a birth mark that he has. Then he went to the lab for the blood work, and then to get the chest x-ray. We're waiting for her to call for him to go pick up the results in the sealed envelope.

The other experience that I had recently was yesterday when I went to the US embassy to get my I-134 affidavit of support notarized for my fiance's interview. I had made an appointment and everything, and when they got to me and I told them what I needed to do, they told me that it was NOT NECESSARY TO NOTARIZE THE I-134, even though the instructions in my fiance's packet from the embassy specifically say to notarize it.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-134 joint signature
Hello all,

My parents have agreed to sponsor my fiance and fill out the I-134 for us. My mother owns the house and property, but my step-dad has the higher-paying job with a more reliable income. So they've decided that my step-dad will fill it out with his info. Is there any other way to do it so that both of their resources could count?

Also, I read somewhere that if the sponsor is married, it should be signed jointly by husband and wife. How is that done? They just both sign on the line at the bottom of the form?

Thanks very much!

My fiance and I went to his interview yesterday and the US Embassy in Santiago, Chile. We were very nervous, but everything went well and it was approved!!!! An extremely happy moment :) I was really glad to be present with him and be able to participate in the interview. IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMy presence in the U.S. during process
First of all- hello everyone, I'm new here and I'll probably be here a lot asking questions. I'm getting married to my Chilean fiancee very soon and we plan to begin the application process in February or March. I've read a lot, so hopefully I'll be able to help a little too!

What I haven't understood yet is the importance of my presence in the U.S. after I file the I-130. My husband will be there for awhile on his tourist visa, but after it expires and he goes back to Chile I would like to go back & forth a few times in order to be with him and also move along with the visa process. Does anyone know if it's a problem if I am not in the country throughout the whole process? I would be in the U.S. in order to send the I-864, I-693 and all those other fun forms and things.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresSpouse CANNOT enter on tourist visa?
Thank you all for your tips and advice, I feel much better now. My spouse is Chilean, for those of you who asked. We'll try to get him over there, but if he is denied entry we'll just have to wait it out until the end sad.gif

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresSpouse CANNOT enter on tourist visa?
Once I file my I-130 my spouse can't come to the U.S. on his tourist visa, is that right? At absolutely no point should he do that? I was reading the guides and it says that the spouse should not be there when the I-130 is filed, but I don't understand whether or not he could come at any point in the process.

Thanks a lot for the link!

I accepted an American university's offer to study there in August, so I'm sure that will be enough to prove that I will have U.S. domicile by the time my husband gets his visa.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresResident visas in other countries
I'm thinking about taking out a resident visa here in Chile so that I can stay here without having to leave and come back every 3 months. Do you think that will make it more difficult for me to say that I have a U.S. domicile if I'm a Chilean resident? My domicile there is just my dad's house, so I don't have anything in my name. I'm just interested to know if my residency here would make it more difficult for me during the visa process.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWife to visit the United States while waiting for visa
I'm in the same situation as well, because my husband doesn't have a job in his home country, or a bank account or anything. All he would have is a return ticket.

As other people have said, it seems safer to not have your wife visit in case of a problem with the pregnancy. If she can't get back home, that could ruin your chances of her getting the visa. It's extremely hard to be apart for so long, especially when she is pregnant, but it is better to suffer a little bit now than suffer much more later.

I don't have any advice for you since I haven't actually started the process yet, but I definitely feel what you're going through because I wish I had known earlier that the process was this long and caused a separation. I have a question though- is it possible for me to file the I-130 and everything else from here in Chile? I'm able to wait it out here with my fiancee, but we wouldn't be able to go back together until he got the visa. I'm not sure if it's required that I be in the U.S. when I file the papers.

I'm not sure, you could check at the US Embassy in Chile. I know that you cannot file them from the Embassy in Sofia sad.gif or I would have started it there while I was in Bulgaria. I'm sure you can submit them at some Embassies. Good Luck and I wish you the best.

Sam and Metodi

Oh right, I know you can do it through the embassy here, but it's not possible for me because I haven't been a resident here for 6 months. I was actually wondering if you can send all the papers to a parent for example, and they send them on to the service center. I'd like to stay here as long as possible, but I'm not sure if they'd accept the papers when they find out I'm still here. It seems like a silly rule to have, but then again they have about a thousand silly rules.

Laure&Colin - thanks for your response. I am wondering about something you said - in "special circumnstances" you mentioned "USC living abroad"....is that a special circumstance that makes the process faster? I had never heard about this, but I was looking at your timeline and it seems like in your case, USC living abroad was the case, and the whole process was very quick for you.

That is the case for me....I am a USC living abroad (Chile), and got married in Dec. to my Chilean husband. In your experience, does this mean my wait times might be quicker than the averages? Your timeline seems extremely quick - I can't believe your NOA2 came by email only about 2 weeks after NOA1!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresSpousal Visa Current Processing Time
Hi!
I have a follow up question in terms of waiting times...on the USCIS website, if you look up the California Service Center for I-130 (spouse), it says the processing time is 5 months.

However, on te Visa Journey page here: http://www.visajourn...m/content/times there is a graph on the right-hand side that chows the CSC at about 110 days (and it says it was updated today), which is much less than the 5 months that the USCIS says. Does anyone know why the huge difference between the USCIS table and the Visa Journey graph?

Thanks!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionCertifying copies (notarizing in US speak....)
I am also wondering something similar....

All of the supporting documents to prove a bona fide relationship (such as a Lease, letter from the banks stating we have a joint account, tickets for trips together) can all be sent as just plain ole copies, right?

What about the affidavits of a bona fide relationship? Should that be an original?
Thanks!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - May 2012
Hi everyone! Hope all is well! I have been missing from the Filers board as you can tell, but it's because I've been a bit busy with work. Plus, as I had mentioned before, we were stalling a bit with some docs., but now we are back in full action!

I wanted to ask you all a few questions....are there no specific instructions for the DS-230 like for the other forms? I can't seem to find any.

Also, on the DS-230, 31a and 31b, I have looked over previous posts on Visa Journey but am not 100% sure...in terms of "person(s) who will accompany you to the US"....I don't put myself, right? I only put any intending immigrants (which in our case would be 0)? I am just confused because since I live abroad, I will be going to the US with my hubby, but I am already a USC :-)

And lastly, I also checked previous visajourney posts but found no answer....do you know if there are any DS-230 forms that can be saved? In ours, we have to retype everything every time we open it.

Thanks!

Thanks everyone. I called back and the operator gave me the IIN and BIN. Looks like I have to wait till they Generate the AOS Bill. They said to wait 10-15 days to get this. Does it really take that long? Is the AOS Payment Portal and IV Bill Payment portal same?

Nope, don't believe anything NVC says....it will probably take like 5 days. Good luck!
