I am US CITIZEN now biggrin.png

thank you guys...

I was definitely over the moon to become a US citizen but at the same time I wasn't feeling all that after witnessing a staff escorting my mother (her oath ceremony was scheduled same day/time as mine) off the hall. ranting33va.gif  She was given a motion to reopen the case and that she needs to response back in 15 days otherwise her case will be denied. Already forwarded the letter to our lawyer and only time will keep us updated now. I'm still pissed. With that being, I do not want to convulse her case by speaking about it at this stage since it is too early.  That might very well be the only reason why I did not want to update my list and talk about the experience but it was definitely a beautiful moment to be saying the oath of allegiance.

The list format is all messed up and I don't have the time to trace back to the culprit and I'm not going to do so. All I'm going to say is I'M A U.S. CITIZEN

Good luck all and please update me.

yes sir.. I am pretty sure smile.png

it said like "  Please report promply at 12.33PM ".

btw, I did change my last name .. is there any different between people change name and just use the same name ?

------

No differences, I don't think so. If there was a differences, they would have told you right there and then at the interview day. I also changed my last name.

thank you...

Are you sure it's 12:33PM? It's either 8AM or 1PM as far as I know.

Hello all. My journey is finally coming to an end Oath is tomorrow in Delaware. Received the letter last Friday online status never changed to this day. I heard that this had happened to some of you. I spent weeks after weeks waiting for a text or an email with an update and was worried that I wasn't going to be scheduled any time soon - either was a great surprise. I can't wait to say the pledge tomorrow! Whole process took a little over 5 months

Congrats.

btw, yesterday my case status has changed smile.png

On June 3, 2013, we scheduled you for your oath ceremony and sent a notice providing the date, time, and location. If you move prior to the scheduled ceremony, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

@ thebigman2377

I really think we gonna have the same day oath ceremony .. but I am not sure on  what time ?

Congrats, usually the number of applicants in LACC (Los Angeles Convention Center) is 6,000 per ceremony (happens twice; 8AM & 1PM) for a total of 12,000 .. but the date I have only accepts 3,000 per ceremony or for a total of 6,000 which is half. Keep that in mind while waiting for your oath ceremony notice letter.. but I think you will have the same date as mine. dancin5hr.gif CONGRATS!

Thank you! Sooo details:

Arrived about 40 mins before scheduled, appt was at 10:15 am, went in and waited for about 50 mins and was called in by this nice officer.  First thing she asked me was to see all the passports I've had in the past.

I answered all 6 questions correctly, asked me to write a sentence in English and say something in English that I don't remember...something about October.

Questions I remember:

How many judges are in the Supreme Court?

What did the declaration of Independence do?

We elect a US senator for how long?

Who becomes President if the President or VP cannot longer serve?

and 2 that I don't remember but I nailed then like a boss cool.png She went through my application verifying information and checking entry and exit stamps to make sure that I had resided in the US most of the time and finally asked me about my marriage since I received my green card through her. I answered all her questions truthfully and she seemed satisfied with my answers.

She asked me where I worked and also to see a proof of Selective Service registration. At the end she said: are you ready for the good news? You are approved and we have a ceremony today at 1:30 huh.png ohmy.png  <--- yeap that was my expression.

Too bad my mom couldn't join me but I couldn't wait longer, I had already waited 6 months. I'll make it up to her with a trip to DC.

Thank you all for answering my questions and it's been a pleasure to experience this last journey with you. Good luck to those pending oath dates and those who will have their interviews soon.

Congratulations! I'm waiting for mine on June 26th, I went ahead and called the Federal Building (which is like 5 mins driving from my place) to schedule an appointment for same-day passport on June 27th only to be turned down cause I had to wait 14 days before my travel date (which is on 28th).. I'll call again on June 14th until then, congratulations!

I should be closing on my first home in a couple of weeks. My new home will be in the same district office. Should this be an issue if i report a change of address in my application?  I am scheduled for a reinterview on July 25th.

This is just my opinion.

When are you suppose to move out of the current home? Since you have already been rescheduled an interview you can safely report a change of address since the time it takes from interview day to oath ceremony would be a month or so, depending on the field office..  If it was the other way around, if you haven't been rescheduled for an interview, I wouldn't report change of address UNTIL your certain that you have already been scheduled for one.

Finally received my oath ceremony,

Date: Wednesday June 26, 2013

Time: 1PM

Location: Los Angeles Convention Center.

I was hoping the event would have been at 8AM so I can go straight to the federal building to request a same day passport since I'm due to go overseas on June 28th but it would most likely be next day.

I passed my Interview this morning ... biggrin.png ( I think to night I can sleep well ,not like yesterday night headbonk.gif  )

the lady who did interview to me is very nice... she help me a lot. we talked and she did test to me .

1.What is the Constitution ? ----> this question  so tricky

2.What is an amendment ?

3.Who vetoes the bills ?

4.What is the capital of your state ?

5.What do we show loyalty to when we say the pledge of Allegiance ?

6.When is the last day you can send in federal income tax forms?

7.Who was President during World War II ?

8.Who did the United States fight in World War II ?

and she asked where is the White House?

and tell me to write The White House in the Washington DC

Thanks God .. and all VJ fellows. God Bless You guys

Congrats... Question #1 might seem tricky cause it's not one of the questions in the naturalization test but if you invert the QA (ie, what is the question that leads to the answer "The constitutions").. then it will help... Answer: supreme law of the land tongue.png ..

Journey is almost done.. I'm thinking we're both going to have the same oath ceremony .. there was one on 23rd May and the next one is on 26th June.

Its based on missing documents

Your fine AS LONG AS you mail them before the deadline.

Just came back from interview and dicision can not be made yet. Lady was very nice and i was missing w2 for 2011 and my wife doctor letter coz she is out of job since 3 years. She gave me pink envelope and said me to mail it or drop it off with 2 documents with in month. And i ahould be fine. I will be dropping off those docs with in this week. What you think friends i should be fine???

On what grounds the decision can not be made? Missing documents? .. If that's the only thing, then you should be fine. The sooner you send in the better.. but you have to realize that it's going to prolong your journey that's all.

Happy Anniversary to me! 90 days since the last status change and absolutely nothing! ranting33va.gif Processing time in NY was just revised to 7.4 months. wow.gif What is really unbelievable is the fact that one fellow NYer is already a US citizen and another one will be soon. This Sunday it will be 5 months since I filed. I guess 2.4 more to go.

Will call USCIS today but don't believe that will change much.

Definitely get your senator or congressman/congresswoman of your state involved in this, USCIS tend to move things faster when you get them involved. Atleast that's what I would do.

Out of curiousity, if you don't mind me asking --- Did you went for the interview? If yes, did you pass or decision cannot be made?

Hi guys,

Did you carry passport photos to the interview? If you did, did the IO ask for them?  I see that the "interview Document Checklist" says that they are not required but recommended. I have my interview tomorrow, and I just realized that I forgot about the photos. I'm thinking about going to get them in a couple hours. But I wasn't sure if I should. What was your experience?

I had mine just In case but they didn't ask for them

Same. Always be overprepared than underprepared.

Anything is possible and depending on whether the oath ceremony in June is still open or not, you might be in on June. There is an oath ceremony on May 23rd here and I'm hoping I got into that one... hehehe

Hey guys! Congrats to those who are already done! Just wondering anybody out here from Delaware/Philadelphia? I passed my interview in the Philadelphia office recommended for approval on May 3rd and was told next available ceremony in Delaware(since I am DE resident) is in June however I haven't received a notice yet and my status online hasn't changed...should I worry?

I wouldn't worry about it. The only time you need to start worrying is if the status hasn't changed for 90 days but let's hope it doesn't go that far. You have just been recommended for approval less than 3 weeks ago, your expecting things to be done fast.. it's all about luck.

I have also seen others saying that they received oath ceremony letter without any status change.

Good luck

wow congrats bigman.. biggrin.png

I have some questions.. It's trafiic LA very bad in the morning when you went there ? I have interview at 7.15am on 28th .

You'll probably be traveling on 10W at one point but I live in Santa Monica so traveling on 10E (as opposed to 10W) gets jammed all the time after 7AM.. I knew when I had to leave to beat the traffic (Left at 6AM even though I had 9:45AM interview time). 7AM is when the traffic starts to build up on 10E.. 10W is even worst from Downtown LA to Westside cause most people live in Downtown Los Angeles but works in west side. But since your interview location is in Downtown Los Angeles (and not westside) you might have some luck there... but I wouldn't risk it cause THERE WILL BE LINES on the outside of the building... plan accordingly and if your interview is indeed in downtown los angeles (300 N. Los Angeles St) then parking is in 334 East Temple Street, $8 flat rate.

Alright folks I had my interview today. Unfortunately it was not a pleasant experience. After waiting for 3 long hours, I was finally called in. She was a serious officer and got straight to business. I was sweared in and then she took the reading and writing test. Then the history test. All was fine till now. Then she started reviewing my application line by line. I got green card through marriage which ended in divorce. I got remarried after 2 years. She verified my current marriage certificate. She asked me why I did not petition my current wife. I told her my Green card has a restriction of 5 years ( if green card was obtained thru marriage to US citizen ) to petition and that restriction recently expired last month and I am hoping to sponsor as soon as i get my citizenship. Then she verified all my history, every line of the form. Then she verified all my 5 year tax returns. Then she told me to sign and print the name on the N 400. She also made me sign the 2 pics that I had originally sent.

I was waiting for the good news and she then dropped the bomb. Because of your previous history, your case needs more investigation. She then hands over the N 652 with Decision cannot be made yet and then escorted me out. She said they have 120 days to make the decision and to wait for the answer in the mail.

At that moment my heart sank and i came back home. I just dont understand why she did not approve. I honestly dont like suspense in life. They made me wait long time at the time of I-751 and also now. All my papers are straight and nothing goofy in my application. I am having my fingers crossed. I hope to receive good news under a month.

Sorry to hear that, hope everything goes through smoothly ASAP!

Thank you all for your replies!

Did you take a certified copy? I only have a non-certified copy of the petition and a certified copy of the decree. unsure.png

I'm living the single life! dancin5hr.gif  .. so can't help you there, sorry!

Ok I am applying based on the 5-year residency and I am gathering the necessary documents for the interview.

I am taking copies and originals of:

  • Appointment letter.
  • Copies of the package I sent.
  • All immigration documents issued by any country and have used to cross into the US; old, new green card, turist and student visas, and all passports I've used and I-20s (I used to be an F-1).
  • Driver records from TX and CO showing I don't owe anything (only 2 traffic tickets on my record after 13 years of living in the states)
  • Selective Service Card
  • CO Drivers License
  • Divorce decree
Is it really necessary to take tax transcripts? On the list it only says it's needed for those applying through marriage. Do I need to bring my SS Card, temporary work permits issued while my GC was being processed and from the OPT when I graduated college?

Am I missing anything? Thank you! happy.png

It may work differently in your situation, the fact that they never asked for my passport, driving record, taxes etc (only asked for my GC, Selective Service and Driver License) doesn't mean this applies to you. Remember if they ask for something that you don't have at the time of the interview, they might not go any further with the interview and at best might reschedule it for you which might takes weeks or months. The point here is Better be safe than sorry. Be well prepared INCASE they ask for it. Take the whole nine yard, SS card, taxes, employment proof, green card, passport etc. Below is a list that lala_xoxo constructed.

...

1) Interview appointment Letter
2) Passport (old and new)
3) Driver's license
4) Tax return for the last 5 years
...
5) Divorce petition
6) Divorce decree
7) Marriage certificate
8) Social security card
9) Traffic tickets proof of payment / resolution
10) Driving record from DMV
11) Passport photograph (2 colored copies)
12) W2s and proof of employement
13) Permanent residence card
14) Application form (filled and signed)
15) A pen and a pencil

...

You don't need to bring the following:
- #5 cause you #6,
- #10 since they're at most going to ask you for any unpaid ticket/violation,
- #11 they have your photo when you send it along with your N400 when you mailed it and
- #15 cause they have alot of pens to spare (but 1 pen doesn't hurt)

Had interview at 9:45AM, left the house pretty earlier close to 6AM.. Even though I live 20 minutes away from Downtown Los Angeles which happens to be the area of my interview, it can really take up to 2 hours cause of the traffic you might never know, don't want to risk it. With that being said, I arrived at the location close to 7:05AM, had my breakfast and went inside. Went through the metal detector and off I went to the waiting room after dropping my appointment letter at the check-in window at 9AM. To my surprise, they called out my name at 9:30AM. The person that called out my name seem intimidating at first glance but seem like a really cool gentleman in his 50s. He placed me under oath and then proceeded with the interview. The only things that was asked of me was my Selective Service proof, Permanent Resident Card and my driver license, not even my passport, taxes, social security card or passport photo. (YMMV)*

Once the N400 questions was out of the way, he asked me a series of naturalization questions which I got all right in the first 6 questions:

1. Name one state that borders Canada.
2. What are the two major political parties in the United States?
3. What is the political party of the President now?
4. Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?
5. There were 13 original states. Name three

Don't remember the 6th question. Oh yeah I passed! oops8rh.gif dancin5hr.gif

It was a great joy and feeling to know that I'm one step closer.

* = It may work differently in your situation, or be different in your experience.

Ugh, fixing again. I went into the html and cleaned it up as there were a few errors with the transition. I'm attempting to make the chart a bit bigger. It's very small to my eyes.. I'm in my 30s and am having to squint!  I've updated the directions as well to reflect the new WYSIWYG text box editor.

Is it me or does the font size=3 looks small for the new upgrade? size=15|16 (15 OR 16) looks great for me. Definitely not small and not too big.. looks about right

It's hard to tell. I've been in line for an interview since March 15 but haven't heard anything again since then. My application will reach its two-month mark on April 25 (I filed on February 25) so hopefully that's gonna make a difference. I want an interview date so I can plan my travels better.

TOT, you applied earlier than I did so I hope you won't have to wait another month.

This is all an assumption based on January fliers. The only two people (aside from TOT) who filed from Los Angeles is me and waiting400n. My transition from InLineInt to Int Ltr took 1 month and 4 days and waiting400n transition took him/her 1 month and 1 day. Not to mention Los Angeles is a very big city. You guys might find this interesting: Los Angeles Maps.

yup..sometime I think it's depend on what city you live too..
one of my friends filed on december got schedule for 24 april and we live in same city .
it's look like your faster than mine ( almost 1 month different)

I honestly thought you might get yours sooner than mine, cause your Fprints was done waay before mine.
TOT, I hope you get yours sooner.

plis update me...
finally my case status changed ..
"On April 18, 2013, your N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION was placed in line for interview scheduling. When scheduling is complete, you will receive a notice with a time and place for your interview "

TIA

If the processing time on this forum's timeline for Los Angeles was any indication, it would seem like it would take a month until you been scheduled for an interview (was from the time you have been placed in line). Let's hope you get yours sooner. Congrats.

Interview letter 04/15; naturalization interview 05/22/13 @ 9:35 am, baltimore, md uscis office.

Asia: East and PacificMedical Exam Timeline in HCMC
Hi all,

My SO will be traveling to HCMC soon, so I want to give her a good idea of what to expect for the medical exam. Anyone that has gone through this, I would greatly appreciate any help you can give me!

How long does the exam take? Do they give you the results a few hours after the exam is over or days later?

My SO is not for HCMC so traveling out involves a bit more time and money.

Thanks again!

Asia: East and PacificThe Waiting Game...
Hahahaha, she is from Hai ba. I know there is a lot of "tension" with the northies and southies, but consider yourselves lucky southies... My wife will be facing some pretty messed up prejudices when she gets here as having the Communist vietnamese flag on display will get you lynched were I live. Looks like the consulate finally replied to my e-mail, they got the info and will be sending her packet 4 shortly!

Tried giving them a call, but on the 4 separate occasions I called, it was a dead end phone call. When I got to the option I needed, it gave you an automated answer saying "we were unable to complete your call at the moment, please call again at another time..."

None the less, Good to have some info!

Thanks Melrose Plant!

She lives in Hanoi, but its not that she doesn't know, it's the one she knows "of." It has to do with city registration or something.. I know already that she was supposed to give me the one she is residing. Like I said, I think it is just a small mistake on her part. Anyways, going to clear this up tonight and call the consulate to correct it should we need to.

Thanks again!

Asia: East and PacificThe Waiting Game...
Hi All fellow VJers!

Just a short rant maybe someone might be able to give some insight.

My fiance has yet to receive Packet 3 in the mail... I seriously think there is either something wrong with the vietnamese mail service or her address is not what she thinks it is. Either way, I contacted the consulate via e-mail and they were kind enough to give it to me electronically.

I had her fill out all the forms and send it back right away to the HCMC... but its been 3 weeks and no reply... I have an itching suspision that the it either got lost in the mail (she did not send it priority or sercured) or it has been received and Packet 4 was sent to a black hole...

I have tried e-mailing the consulate again, but have not got a reply back... Do you guys/gals think it's useful try calling them? Anyone try getting information from a live person there?

My only other option besides waiting on my honches is to send my SO some letters with her address and see if they get there. The whole multiple home address thing in vietnam (registered home, residing home) is too confusing...

Anyways, want to strangle something! sad.gif

Asia: East and PacificHCMC Packet 3
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

I waited like 2 weeks before I e-mailed the consulate once I got the letter from NCIS. Like you said about Tet, they took their sweet time to reply, but after the second request they replied to my first e-mail saying they got it. After that, it was another month till I emailed them again about if they sent Package 3, third e-mail I sent they replied with the PDF to send to my fiance. We are still waiting for Packet 4.... Sending them an e-mail today, because if my fiance would have received it she would have texted my cell... and I have waited for over 2 monthes from them receiving the info...

Asia: East and PacificHCMC Packet 3
Hi Toddandhien,

I had the same problem as you, we waited and waited with no reply. I ended up e-mailing HCMC about it and they said they had sent it but gave me a PDF if the forms my fiance needed. I e-mailed them to her and she filled them out and sent them. I e-mailed them again and confirmed they did receive her documents and are now waiting for a reply on an interview date (which has been over a month and I have been constantly e-mailing them for updates). You can call, but even they confirmed that the phone system will be going away and obsolete. To this day, she has not received her packet 3....

When you e-mail them always reference your claim number (HCM#) or they will give it to you once you use the claim number given to you by NCIS (NOA2).

Like you, I have no faith whatsoever on the postal service in Vietnam.... its common for neighbors to bring over mail and for sensitive documents like this, that just doesn't cut it... How about HCMC giving an option to FedEx the visa instead....

Thanks Toddandhien!

Filling out form RSI as we speak... Sadly my fiance is no where near HCMC and is currently working on a tv program till Wednesday.... so I'll see if she can fax in the form and do the waiting game again.... hopefully the mail man will get his head out of his #######.....
