I'm sat in the London embassy!

Can't wait to read all about it!  :)

Johan is STILL waiting for his documents from South Africa to be able to send in his readiness form!  :clock:   His tracked package has been sitting in Johannesburg for 2 weeks now.  But the best part of all this wait is his mom sent him some certified copies of the same papers via regular mail, and he got those today.  So he's sending in his stuff to the Dublin embassy and hoping for the best.  This delay has set us back at least 3 weeks.  NOT happy about it.  :protest:

It's a whole nother mindset to think of the "big wedding" later on down the line being the more meaningful one.  But if that is how it must be, then I need to adjust my attitude about it.  lol.

We are looking at it this way:  our court wedding is going to be as non-sentimental as possible.  We aren't even exchanging rings then.  We see it as only a legality because, unlike if he were just coming from another state, there are rules and regulations for immigrants, and we're jumping through those hoops.  We actually aren't telling anyone (apart from you guys!  And my sister).  It will help us several ways, one being filing AOS ASAP (have I ever mentioned my aversion to acronyms?!  ), another being the pending expiration of his newly acquired drivers license as soon as his I-94 at the end of the 90 days.  Plus, I can't add him or his son to my insurance policy until we're legally married, and (last but not least) he can work sooner.  He has a tentative job offer and doesn't want to put off working longer than possible.  when I was married the first time, it was in Alaska, and no one was there for it (I actually didn't even wear make up that day).  My intention was to have the big traditional wedding down in LA on our year anniversary, but it didn't pan out as planned or promised.  This is partly why we aren't telling people, so that it can't be said that we "already had our wedding."

Has anyone ever researched getting married in the US Virgin Islands?? We are tossing around the idea of a beach wedding but I prefer the idea of an all-inclusive resort....... so we d have a week of fun celebrating our future together with everyone we love......I know....I'm corny!

I asked this question on the forums here a couple months ago, and I essentially got answers like "what, the US doesn't already have enough for you to see?" and "why would you even push the boundaries and chance immigration problems?"  So, sadly, I got zero concrete answers about this.  <_<

Is anyone incorporating their fiance's culture into the wedding plans? I would love to hear about some if the non-American customs that will be employed/practiced!!

We are, sort of.  Johan's from South Africa, and there they have this huge tradition there, known as Braai, which is essentially the whole American BBQ craze to the 10th power.    So for our reception, we're having as close to a South African Braai as we can, and it's using what's known here as a Santa Maria bbq.  I've also asked his sister to help me find some of his favorite South African recipes to give to the caterer, who is more than willing to use them.  :)   Plus, I'm planning to serve Irish coffee, since he's also an Irish citizen after living there for 15 years.  I have done some research on South African wedding traditions and customs, but pretty much everything I'm seeing is tribal, and he's Afrikaans, so that doesn't really work here.  Although, I think some sort of "hand fasting" (which they do sometimes do in SA) would be sorta cool.  :)

beautiful dress!!!!  congrats!!!  funny my sisters were hounding me all day about when I will start to look for my dress.....I just need to get thru the visa process then I ll start the plans..... where do u girls plan to marry?

We're also going to do a courthouse thing in order to get AOS rolling ASAP.  That'll be the week he gets here, I think.  Then we're having an actual wedding on October 11th, in Los Olivos, CA, just north of Santa Barbara.  It's proving to be quite the international affair so far, with friends and family flying in from South Africa, Denmark, England, Ireland, and various states in the US.  We had discussed waiting until next Spring, but I was nervous that the further away it got from our legal wedding, the less likely it would be to happen.  October 11th coincidentally works for his African family and my Danish friends, so it's a go!  :D  With usually having to order a gown, I thought for sure I'd have one made, but I was able to buy one right off the rack and saved a TON!  :D  So that stress is alleviated.

cw&zm, congrats on getting your interview date!  :D  That rocks!

edit: rookie grammar mistakes.  I HATE that!  lol

I am attaching pics of the dress...for the curious :)

This quote above made me log back in when I saw the email!  lol  LOVE it.  Beautiful choice, my friend.  Yep, we're visa twins.  :)  Did I show you mine via facebook?  Johan is on here sometimes, so NO pics here!

On a side note...I said YES to the dress today!!!! It is completely not what I expected to buy, but I love it and it made my sister and best friend cry so I hope it does the same thing to my groom :) It has a train and I didn't expect to have one since we're having a beach wedding but it is gorgeous! I am excited to be marrying that man! YAY!

Congratulations!  :)  It's funny how the dress picks you, isn't it?  Same happened to me.  :)  And it's one less thing to stress about, so YAY!!

Good to know I am not the only one who has been going through the cold feet thing!

I have asked Johan several times if he's sure he is willing to move to another country.  He assures me that yes, he is.  :)  I think it'll feel way more real when he's got his visa in hand.  This is a second marriage for both of us too, so we know what to expect, but it's still scary.  (((hugs))) to all of us!  :D

What has everyone been up to outside of visa-based things whilst waiting? My fiance's all moved into our new apartment now... and we're thinking of getting a kitten! :) Also sorting out marriage plans...

For me, counting down until the end of the school year.  Eight school days left, thank GOD!  We've also been working on wedding plans, and wedding budgets, and figuring out how to get his family here from South Africa for the ceremony (Oct 11th).  There's been lots of skyping and "whatsapp"-ing between us all, and hopefully we'll have enough $ to get everything accomplished.  I can't wait for summer.  I'm really hoping for a POE date of beginning-mid July, but more realistically, it'll be end of July.  :(

Had my Interview last May 20 and saw online that my visa was already issued. I am just waiting for my passport now. I personally like to thank all the February filers who gave me encourement with my journey especially to CJBryan and to Colleon.

here are the questions asked by the consul :
1. When did you meet your fiance?
2. How do you correspond to each other?
3. How many months you talked before the first meeting?
4. What does he do?
5. Is he divorced? When?
6. Does he have any kids? Age and names?
7. What are his hobbies?
8. Do you talk to his youngest daughter? How's your relationship with her?
9. Is he the son of the petitioner?

she asked me for the proof of relationship but she didn't touched it, not even a single page.. I only submitted w2 and 2 months pay stubs which made me a little anxious since all of the fiance visa applicant have their form 1040 as their attachment for the I-134 but the consul see no problem about it.

You have nothing to worry about if you know your fiance very well..

Goodluck to all of you and May the force be with us!

WOOHOO!!  Congrats!!  How exciting!  :D   May the force be with us, indeed.  ;)

KB docs receptionist gave us a copy of the form when we checked out. It is just a sheet of paper with vaccination info. If he didn't receive a copy, I'd have him call to see if they can scan and email or fax it to you or him. The receptionist told us we won't need it at the interview, but that people have said they needed it later. I assume she meant AOS stuff !

Johan called up a couple days later and asked for a separate copy.  He picked it up yesterday.

he is STILL waiting for his papers from South Africa!!  :clock:   It's so annoying.  We can't tell the embassy he's ready for his interview until he gets those in hand because Ireland schedules QUICK once they have the packet 3 back.  So basically, we've extended this process by more than 2 weeks simply due to SA incompetence.  grrrrrrr  (He applied for those documents back in early March.)

I'm still waiting for NOA2 :( and from what it looks like we will be waiting for awhile as we are at TSC

:(  I am horrified by the discrepancy in the two centers.  I can't even imagine how upset I'd be if I was still waiting for NOA2 and people who filed months after me are getting theirs.  I'm very sorry.  :(

Does anyone know what the Consulate says about how long it will take to have your visa in hand? I've read so many different answers but I want to know if the Embassy gives you an answer for average time it takes!? Can't seem to find it!

This is from the UK embassy information page here on VJ...

If not whats the waiting period? The passport with visa is delivered back to the applicant via Secure Mail Services (SMS) courier operating under the brand-name DX Secure. This takes anywhere from 24 hours to a week. The cost is $30 delivered to you home or free if you pick up at a depot. We said the same thing. Mid June is when he wants to fly! Hoping that he can be here for my cousins wedding which is June 21st!

He put July 1st on his (I realize we're not going through the UK, but I think it'll still make a difference!).  no interview date yet, but I'm hoping to have one by the end of May (know the date, not actually have gone through the interview by then).   We found out today that Johan's south african documents that he applied to receive over TWO months ago, are being mailed out this week.  THEN he can turn in his readiness form.  :)

I am actually chancing it big time with a wedding date... Right now we planning for August 30th.  HUGE risk but I am a teacher and school starts August 21st with no long break until November.  First year back in the states so taking time off is not an option.

Lets hope things start picking up speed!

Edit:  We are going through an agency here in China (I just like to keep up with things because I am not a sit back and wait kind of person) and he said August 30th should be completely doable.  Lets hope he is right.

I'm optimistic for you!  I'm a teacher too, and I have had to get official permission from my principal for taking some time off in October.  The reason we chose that date is because it's spring break in South Africa, and Fall break in Europe.  We have his family from SA coming and also some dear friends from Denmark coming also.  We start back on August 11.  booooooo  lol   I'm glad to see I'm not the only gambler in the group!  ;)

My petition went through a short period of "administrative processing" at the NVC stage.  CEAC never said this, but the man I spoke to on the phone told me it was in AP.  within a couple days, it was on  to the next stage of things.  I wouldn't worry.  It's likely that it's getting logged.  You can also email the embassy and ask. If, after a few days, it's still in AP, then ask questions.  Also, Paddington bear is correct.  If you post a separate thread, you'll get much more than if you just ask here.  :)

I know I had some jealousy and annoyance over filers in FEB who got their NOA2's before me.  I sent mine on the first, so in my mind, I should have been one of the first ones with an approval.  I learned quickly that it wasn't going the way I thought it should.  Which bit.   :(  I feel your pain, if only slightly.  Keep us posted, please.  :)  Abby's correct; we might be uber efficient and just approve everyone because we've been there, done that.

They claim they process them as they come in well that's a lie.... Considering many people from March, and April are getting theirs while I'm sitting here twiddling my thumbs.

Indeed.  I cannot believe people at the CSC are getting them in less than 2 weeks!  #######?!?!  Work on getting the ones from months ago that you still have not processed.  Unfair and uncool.  :ranting:   I don't begrudge the people who're getting theirs so quickly... it's not their fault, but the process is still bogus, whether we're talking TSC or CSC.

I believe they are processing petitions from around the Oct/Nov 2013 range. It seems it is taking anyway from 4-7 months for NOA2 at TSC :(

This is absolutely insane to me.  I remember being thankful that our petition was sent to the CSC.  I don't think CSC was pumping them out nearly as fast as they seem to be now though.  If you look through old timelines, it looks like this time last year, CSC was the slower of the 2 options.  Taking 8+ months!  When we first filed, we sorta hoped to be able for them to move here by November.  Now, it's feasible that they can move here by end of JUNE!

had my medical today and have to go back on friday for my son's skin test reading. gosh! having this medical exam is reallly so tiring especially if you have your kid with you. have to line up at 4am and didnt eat till 12 noon :-( i hope there will be no problem in my medical so i can have my interview on May 20

fingers crossed!

Johan's is next Wednesday.   We're still waiting on his paperwork from South Africa.   Things are almost happening too fast (I know some are silently cursing me.  <_< )

:( still not a word on my case

:(

Still no word on our case either.. very frustrating. I wanted to fly back to MD for a visit with my fiance, family, and my dogs, however, with no updates on our petition we don't want to risk using up my vacation or waste money when we will have to pay for the trip to the embassy and travel expenses for when we are approved. Roar.

That would be a tough spot to be in.  :(   I'm sorry it's taking so long!  :(

I'm floored by how fast this goes once you get your NOA2.  When we all first started the process, I bet we all thought of it as more of a "soon," "one day," "we could be together by _________," and a lot of us are already at that point.  Johan and I had a talk yesterday about how it's now on the brink of becoming a reality.  In a way, it still feels very unreal. And apparently, we're gambling people.  We're booked for an October 11th wedding.

For those still waiting for your NOA2, I sincerely hope that those who are well into the process and are, in fact, almost finished with it, aren't bringing your hopes down.  :(   You aren't forgotten.  I hope for your approvals every day.  :luv:

I do have a question for UK filers, though: how long after dhl tracking  showed your case had been received did your CEAC status move from "In Transit" to either "Received" (does it move to that?) or "Ready"? Thanks!

Not UK, but our case was signed for on the 25th, and didn't change to Ready until last Friday.  I kept thinking to myself, "it's NOT IN TRANSIT... change the status already!"    No, this process does not make us crazy.  why do you ask?  ;)

Soooooo, this wild adventure turns out to be even more amusing!

It turns out the service centre accidentally sent our file to NVC and then on to the London embassy! ( that's why I didn't get any noa2 email, noticiation, letter, online case update ect ect ect) we didn't even get approved! We finally got a letter today stating that we didn't get approved, it was still pending, it was accidentally sent to the NVC and forwarded on. But due to the inconvience they'll approve us today! Lucky, lucky me ;)

CEAC case updated online as well, so hopefully we should be receiving an interview letter soon! :)

that's insane!  I'm glad it's working in your favor.  It would suck if they'd decided to send it back for "approval."  Keep us updated.  :)

That's awesome!!

I was wondering about NVC knowing our interview dates too....

Loving all the English teacher and Keats love! I'm getting my PhD in English (my specialty is British lit, 1630s-1830s; I write about Keats!) and I teach English at my university, so I'm one of you!! Keats's letters are truly amazing...some better than his poetry.

No, you won't have to pay another fee at the interview. you just payed it in advance. :)

I believe the medical is $300, which I though was kind of high compared to other countries :(

Oh girl, I WISH Ireland's embassy used a medical facility that cheap.  For Johan, it's 395 Euros, which is just under $550!  His son's is going to be 260 Euro, which is $360.  I can't believe there's such a huge discrepancy between countries!

I was checking out the Texas stats today and it is RIDICULOUS. I would be angry and sad.

I wonder why they don't transfer some of their backlog to California, who seem to be racing through.

Sending positive thoughts your way!!! :D :D :D

I wholeheartedly agree with this.  Abby and I were just talking about this earlier.  Every time I post about progress, I cringe a little, because I'm SURE I'm silently getting cussed out by TSC people (I take no offense; I had a few ####### moments when I was still waiting for NOA2 and people who filed after me were getting approved ;) ).  I can't believe they aren't transferring cases to California.  It seems extremely unfair (I know the US gov't doesn't care about that), and also inefficient.

We're also sending +++++++++ vibes your way.  As silly as this sounds, I really want us to all go through the process together, like we began it (it's a "Cumbaya" moment... everyone hold hands with the person next to you.  ;) ).  For what it's worth, you're in our thoughts that your process will speed the heck up!

Just got off the phone to USCIS, in regards to my NOA2 that wasn't received, they said I wasn't approved on their system! (which is rather ridiculous as I've been forwarded to the US embassy in London, had my medical, packet 3 ect) They're now going to send me a letter, telling me when they'll send me another letter, telling me the outcome/telling me when they'll resend the NOA2!!!!!

You'd think for a couple of hundred dollars, they'd be slightly more efficient/helpful ;)

That's a bit alarming, considering you'll need that document later down the road!  :(   And also ludicrous that they're that inefficient!

Oh no! Hope you get a interview date soon!

Does everyone go online to schedule the interview? (London for us) My fiancé has his medical on May 9th and the packet I sent him (affidavit of support and everything he needs from me) should be there in a few days. He hasn't got his letter yet stating they have received our case at the consulate, but as soon as he gets it he will fill out the DS-160 and the readiness form. Will he have to wait to schedule his interview until they get the results of the medical or can they see he has that scheduled and schedule his interview shortly after his medical? I'm a bit confused of the steps and process of all of that...I've read the London guide, but I was wondering if anyone was at that step now!

When I got the NVC letter in the mail the other day, it suggested that my fiance go online and fill out the DS160 in advance.  You don't have to wait for the embassy before doing that.

Also, still "In Transit."  Apparently, they're walking it across the Atlantic. :crying:
