It means that something is missing from your petition, and they need that missing 'something' to continue processing your case. An RFE can be anything from a signature missing from a form, to having a document missing like a birth certificate or a divorce decree, or wanting to see more evidence of your relationship. When you get the hardcopy RFE in the mail, it will detail exactly what they need from you.

I have heard of extending the petition when it is at sydney waiting to be adjudicated, but not extending the date on the actual visa. I am guessing you already have your visa? I really would wait for an answer from Sydney on this, because it is an unusual request.

Just a quick note to say that I am at the end of my journey, for now! My green card was approved yesterday, which means that from the initial filing of our K1 packet to green card approval, it was just over nine months. I'm so amazed and grateful we had such a smooth journey with no RFE's or any hiccups. I really hope that each of your journeys have the same smooth sailing!

We've just been settling in and getting used to each other! Our wedding is May 8th in South Kohala, Big Island, Hawaii. I'm starting to stress out a little as there is SO much planning yet to do. No worries... I anticipate we will file AOS in early June.

Don't stress!! I pretty much put my wedding together in three weeks....you can do it!!! Thats great you have had lots of time to be settled in with each other and enjoy those last week weeks of fiancee/fiance status ;)

Hi August Filers :)

An update for me...Married nearly two months now, sent off our AOS last month and my I-485 is currently sitting at CSC, patiently awaiting adjudication. AP and EAD still stitting at the National Benefits Center, also waiting patiently :)

How is everyone else traveling?

Congrats!

I have been so busy I had forgotten to update this thread! The little lady and I arrived (after stopping off in Manila for a day) on February 9th. Our POE was Honolulu and due to the size of the flight (300+) we got seated toward the front of the plane so we could disembark quickly and sprint for immigration! We were 2nd in line at immigration and the whole process took only 10 minutes with absolutely zero bumps in the road.

I have yet to start the AOS forms...probably will this weekend. We are also planning our wedding (looks like the Hapuna Prince Hotel in the South Kohala district, Big Island, HI) for May 1st, depending on availability.

My two daughters are getting nicely acquainted with my fiancee and, well....life is good!!! (L)

Yay for being reunited!

I am going to get stuck into all the forms today so hopefully we can send them off by next week.

Congrats guys, happy for you. How you liking the Cali weather? Im just down the road in arizona, been here 12 days now and loving every second of it, so happy to be back with better half and new born. Marriage and AOS gonna be a few weeks yet though.

The weather has been up and down since I got here January 27. It's either been lovely and I've been in shorts and a shirt, or bloody terrible and pouring with rain! Our wedding day, we dodged a bullet....rain was forecast all week, but it rained friday night, and by Saturday morning it was blue skies and sunshine!!

So Alex and I have been married for a week now...LOVING being Mrs. Alex :)

Got our marriage certificate in the mail today! A word of advice for anyone else getting married in Los Angeles County...take the time to go in person to the Norwalk office of the County Clerk and register your marriage there. If you do it there, and give them an express envelope, you will get your certificate within 10 business days. From what I was told, if you register at any other office, it takes up to eight weeks! I got there at about 8.20 in the morning and was out of there in about ten minutes. We registered our marriage on Thursday and we got the certificate two days later! So making the trip down there was worth it...even though it was two hours on the bus both ways lol.

So, looks like we can file for AOS by next week. Yay!

Wow Astrid,
That's great, my girlfriend/fiancee's interview is going to be January 7th, 2009. She has her medical, police cert and all other paperwork done except financial info, which I haven't sent yet. I'm waiting on letter from my bank. But from what I've read my work verification, pay stubs and tax information should be enough.
Your arrival date will be similar to my fiancee's she is planning on leaving Poland on January 27th to come here.
Good luck and congradulations on your visa, at least now the wait is done and the paper trail starts for AOS and the green card.

Astrid,

That's neat, we found out that our interview is scheduled on January 7th, 2010 so we won't be together for Christmas. When are you planning to come to L.A.? Where is Alex in L.A.? I'm in Pasadena and that really is part of L.A. but Pasadenaeans don't want to be considered part of the L.A. scene or culture. I'm hoping that whatever documents for my affadivid of support is good enough. I make more than above the poverty level but there have been postings that indcate requiring a lot more documentation than I am sending. I am sending I-134, recent pay checks, a copy of the latest income taxes, letter from my employer documenting, salary, job title, leght of employment and permanent status. I've checked with the embassy website and it only indicates petitioners must provide proof of adequate financial support once in the United States to ensure the applicant will not become public charges. Documentation regarding financial support can be in any form so long as it contains enough detail and information for the consular officer to conclude that the beneficiary will not become a public charge. So I'm hoping that I a sendin enough information to the embassy. What do you think?

Bernie

Jan. 7? Thats my birthday smile.gif

If all goes well on Tuesday, I will be flying back to LA January 27th. Alex lives in the south east San Fernando Valley, we have an apartment together so it's really home for the both of us.

As for the Affidavit, alex gave me his last state and federal tax returns, a letter from his employer, a letter from his bank, three recent paystubs, copies of his last few bank statements, proof of his stock ownership and car ownership. You should be fine with what you have. Alex had a lot of trouble getting the letter from Chase, it took them nearly three weeks to do a letter that only said he was their customer and how much he currently had deposited.

Astrid,

Thanks for the info, I think I will try and get a bank letter at this point if it takes 3 weeks I won't be able to get it in time so I hope that it isn't a issue.
I will you the best in Los Angeles. You sound like you know the Valley really good. If you guys live in the East you must be fairly close to Pasadena.
Well Happy Birthday.

Bernie

Yeah, I lived in the valley for two and a half years so I do know it fairly well. I live about 20 minutes from Pasadena, though I usually go to Burbank to do stuff.
It may not take your bank that long to do the letter, it may have just been the branch alex went to. I think you have enough time to get one though.

And just a check in with everyone who was a filer at CSC in August - has anyone had their visa approved yet? Or may I be the first one due for approval?

Astrid,

We received notification that her mom received her packet 3 last week and I faxed her IV/F04 yesterday which will set up getting packet 4 sent to her home. She is here with me in L.A. and we have completed all her forms, 156, 156K and my I-134 affadavid of support. She is flying back on December 6th so I hope that they don't schedule the interview too soon as we don't want her not to be there for it. The plan is for her to get everything done and then get a cheap ticket for me to go over to Poland in late December and for us to fly back sometime early January with the new visa. Do you think it's too ambitious? Maybe we won't get the interview date till January? what do you think?
How soon did you recieve your interview date after you sent in your IV/F04?

Bernie

I think that is a question you need to ask in the Europe or Poland forum. As hdkimo said, each embassy is VERY different. For example, if you look at my timeline, when I sent in P4, I got an interview date for three weeks later. I have heard that the Montreal, Canada embassy is backed up and people are waiting months for interviews. Have you already sent in packet four? If not, wait until she is home, or at least a few days before she goes home before sendng it, to ensure you get an interview while she in in the country.

So yeah, I would consult with some Polish members to get a clearer idea of what your journey may pan out like. And don't buy any tickets until you know you have the visa. YOu may have to skip flying back with her to the US, but it will be all worth it in the end.

Rongko - I did not have to fill in those forms. If they aren't asked for by the embassy, don't do them. The packet four list that I got just told me to bring my passport, the visa fee receipt and a prepaid envelope with me to the interview, and of course my evidence. This is just Sydney though, I don't know how your embassy does things.

Just remember, for the Medical, you just need to get the first of the series, same with AOS, it is up to you to finish them. For example, you can just get the first Gardasil shot before US entry, and then finish it there.

As for me, got my police check today, am picking up my medical results tomorrow, and mailing Packet Three express and registered mail to Sydney. Hopefully I can get an interview by the second week of December!

According to Packet 3 from the Sydney Consulate, "You must be interviewed and have your visa issued within the four-month validity of your petition." So yes, four months after the issuance of your NOA2 is the deadline to have your visa by. You can ask for extensions from the consul, I believe.

Australia and New ZealandAustralian Beneficiaries - Packet 3 to Interview date
Congrats Warren and Cindy!

Got Alex's package in the mail today with his Affidavit of Support and all that jazz. I'm going to list what he sent me, plus what I am considering as bringing as evidence to the interview to our show ongoing relationship. Can you guys give me your opinion on it, what I can skip and what I may be missing?

Alex sent me -

I-134, filled in and signed
HIs most recent Federal and State tax return
A letter from his employer, on company letterhead, stating his continued employ there since November 2003, his role at the company and his current salary.
Letter from Chase bank, stating how long his account has been open, and his current balance (it's a fax, will it matter?)
Three recent paychecks
A year's worth of bank statements from WaMu/Chase
An etrade printout showing the worth of his stocks
The sale agreement of his car, showing it's worth
Our NOA1
His Birth Certificate (A certified copy from the LA county clerk, he has never had the 'original')
Both the envelopes and notes that I have sent him over the past few months

We got our NOA2 hardcopy the day after he sent this to me, so he is sending that, plus an updated letter of intent today.

For our proof of ongoing relationship, I'm bringing -
Printouts of his Verizon phone bill, showing phonecalls and texts to and from Australia (I'm on vodafone prepaid so I don't have proof...only on my actual phone!)
Printouts of our Skype call logs
A selection of emails over the time since I came back to Australia (should include all the naughty ones, lol)
The notebook with all our wedding planning stuff in it
Pics from our engagement party and from my college graduation in June, the last lot of pictures of us together
And of course, my copy of our original submission

Thankyou for any input you can give me! Hope you are all having a good week smile.gif

Awww yay Natalie!!!!! kicking.gif Congrats, that is so nice to hear! Here is mine and Damos plan of attack: Im buying my plane ticket in two weeks hoping the prices stay atleast around 2000 american so I can fly over on Christmas day and stay until january 8th or 9th. We are getting the last of our docs for packet 3 together, waiting on Damos medical still which will be nov 17th. But we arent going to send in our packet 3 until around the 14th of december. If all goes well we will get an interview date while I am there (Consulate is only closed on christmas day 25th, and boxing day 28th, and new years day!) Hopefully the interview will fall either on the 29th or the 5th of January. If it does fall the week after I leave we figure it will just be another boarding pass we can add to our proof of seeing each other when he goes for the interview, cant hurt, hehe. Either way I get to see my sweety, and spend new years eve with him. Our last vacay together without my three kids jumping all over him, lol. *fingerscrossed it works luv.gif

Sounds like a good plan lyekka! I hope you get to be at the interview to hold your honey's hand, but also so you can party together afterwards!

Astrid - we booked the House of Blues New Orleans for Feb 20th! Brian paid the deposit, and my parents and friends who are coming to wedding have booked their flights, so we are all set smile.gif Are you guys still planing on the 20th Feb too? Are you planning a honeymoon?

Yay! We are still aiming for the 20th too, and the way things are going, it looks like that will be the date. Our case is already at NVC and will probably be at Sydney next week. My dad is itching to buy tickets but I don't want to get too far ahead of myself. I don't want him to book until I know I have my interview date.

We're not going to go on our honeymoon right away, because Alex is doing his masters and can't get extended time off. So we are waiting until the summer to take ours, in the hope I will have my AP or even my green card so we can go the the bahamas. If not, it will be hawaii! Are you guys honeymooning?

So, just went and got my police check done. Went to Indooroopilly Station with my mum, spoke to an officer about getting the check. He expressed suprise that I was the one requesting the check, as according to him, US visas usually involve the FBI asking for the check. But after I explained to him that all Fiancee Visa beneficiaries are name checked through US databases when they originally petition, he understood. He also explained to me that it didn't matter if I got the check sent to myself or directly to the consulate, it was our choice, as it is just the certificate and nothing else.

I then filled in the form, got my Mum to witness it for me, and then had to write my full name, DOB and address on the two sheets on fingerprint paper. Then the officer took me into the back of the station and did two sets of prints on me. He poked a bit of fun at me too, since I was wearing a white singlet and pale skirt...not the perfect combo for black ink! But, the outfit remained unscathed smile.gif After we were done, he told me if I had not heard anything in a month to come in and ask them where it was.

Too easy, apart from the $158.45 fee.

Grrr.....it annoys me that I was told they couldn't send the police check to me. I could have had it done already! mad.gif

Yeah...if only everyone had their story straight.
