K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVSC but do not "officially" live in the region?
So I have already sent in my I-129F to the NSC, but I can't help but think that I could've sent it to the VSC and used my parents address (I am originally from NJ). Has anyone done this or considered it? Hmmm....

I sent mine to NSC and made it out to Homeland Security.

Send them 3 checks and tell them to cash which ever one they feel is appropriate. HA!

Sounds like some busybody stickler has too much time on their hands...

I would think that getting married in Turkey and then applying for the K3 would improve your case. IMHO of course

You def CANNOT only use the inbound portion of the ticket. If the outbound is not used, the inbound WILL be canceled. You may want to consider getting a ticket on a low cost airline to another gateway such as Hong Kong or elsewhere and then tickets may be cheaper from there.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPrevious Marriage Certificate
So I am trying to have as many documents ready as in advance for the interview as possible and I notice that it states:

Marriage certificate* - the original or certified copy bearing the appropriate seal or stamp of the issuing authority for each of the applicant's marriages.

Since it says applicant, is that only the beneficiary that is required to have that or does he need to show my marriage certificate and divorce decree at his interview as well?

So I, the USC, was married once before and have the divorce decree. However, when I applied for my divorce, I had to send in the original marriage certificate and never got it back. Do I need to get another copy of my original marriage certificate?

I wouldn't think this would be a problem. The only cases where I have seen issues is people trying to enter certain middle eastern countries with Israeli stamps.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWedding Dates
So, I think I have decided that I will probably start making serious plans once we have secured an interview date. I received NOA2 last week (which is about a month earlier than I thought it would come through, based on current timelines). If he has his interview at the end of July/August, I think booking a late October/early Nov wedding date will be safe enough.

I know it is still is a bit of a risk - but I think as long as we are well prepared, everything should go smoothly. I am planning on having a 200+ wedding with people from all over the world - so I really would need to start booking things. I would hate to wait so long and cant find a venue, etc.

This is certainly an option, but I am so looking forward to the whole nervousness of "this is it - im getting married". But getting married legally beforehand it is such an anticlimax and what - do you go to the court house and then go home and eat afterwards like it was just another errand you had to do? and then when you do have your big ceremony - it isn't a big deal because you are already married!

I'm kinda offended at how you wrote that. MANY VJers do it this way, because we have to. Guess what, it's not ideal, but hey, life's not fair! In no way was it anti-climactic. As one VJer has said, having the hoopla first (because you had to have a 'wedding' & didn't get your visa in time) and then having to go home & wait for your visa, only to later do the ceremony (at a courthouse, as just another errand) is more of a letdown than doing legal first then a big wedding.

He moved here, we did the legal thing first, and had my family there & had a lovely dinner that night & hotel stay. It was most definitely not 'another errand' we had to do. He planned the wedding with me, while we waited for the GC papers. He helped me make things for the wedding & was very much more a part of it than planning ti while he lived abroad.

Then we planned the big wedding which was just as fun as I expect a "this is it - im getting married" experience.

Well, this is of course just my opinion. And you don't HAVE to do it that way. You always have a choice, it may just mean waiting longer to be together. So please don't take it personal, I am simply giving my view as this is indeed a forum for discussion.

Be honest with yourself. Is it possible you only want to plan this wedding as a distraction from the wait? Or that, in your mind, some how if you plan a date you have something to countdown to?

See to me it really isnt a distraction. I am lucky enough to go back to the UK about twice a month and to me it is more about planning the wedding that I want and I don't want to not be able to get the venue or other vendors that I have my eye on because I waited too long. I guess it is just finding that right balance. It isn't that I am inflexible, but I know exactly how I want it in my head and I don't feel I should have to "settle" for what is available.

You do have another option...... you have a legal wedding once you arrive within the 90 days and you then plan a big family wedding for a later date.... this is a much safer option and you then have time to enjoy all the planning without the worry of visa's.....

i considered this option because i really wanted to go on honeymoon in south america - but i decided i loved the whole build up to the wedding more and will just honeymoon in the US.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWedding Dates

We actually have went ahead and booked things (against all of the advise of every single person on here), but all of the vendors we chose are ones that will reschedule for no fees. Of course picking a new date would be a nightmare, but hey - that's only gambling a bit of stress, not thousands of $$$. All of the people we've ended up going with are very understanding. Like you say - our road to the alter is MUCH different than most.

I'm still hoping with all my heart that he's here by mid-August. Whether or not it happens remains to be seen. If London keeps up the current pace and CSC goes back to work - it very well may. Then again - if not - no airlines book for his family or anything like that. The dress will work regardless if it's a month or so late - it's always damn hot in Texas. Worse case scenario - an extra alteration there.

We're waiting to order invitations until closer to time. Truth is we'd already ordered them once and had to toss them because we changed venues for the reception. ALL weddings have stress, but HA! most brides have no idea, right ladies?

Yeah, seriously. Those bridzillas on TV should try adding this immigration stuff to their planning!

Yeah, I was thinking that most vendors would let you move the date (except maybe the receiption hall? or maybe just charge you a smaller fee) if you had to rather than canceling. Can I ask when you what date you were planning on?

I HATE the wedding industry as it is right now - that has a stranglehold on brides' imaginations and suckers them into going way past their means to secure some bogus idea of a "Dream Wedding." And for us K1 couples, dumping $35k on something that might get scrapped is crazy. At least I think so.

I could not agree with you more. The second you mention the word wedding, vendors automatically double their price (at least!). I looked forever for a seamstress to make my dress (the plainest, simplest dress on the planet, no lace, no beading, nothing but fabric) and they all quoted me ridiculous prices because i told them it was a wedding gown.

Sorry for the off topic here, but your comment is so right on, I had to voice my agreement with ya!

Amen, sister - and I blame the brides that have gone before us and allowed the industry to get away with this kind of #######.

Off topic - but I recommend to all this book: Best Bridal Bargains - http://www.amazon.co...-...3232&sr=1-4 - it has some illuminating and SCARY facts about what places try to do to sucker brides into spending SO much more than they have to. Starts with hiding the style numbers on bridal gowns and ends with mysterious surcharges for nothing at all.

Hint though - never be afraid to haggle! I called a place where I had tried on a dress and said "well, shop B is going to sell me the same thing for x dollars, what are you going to do about matching that?" And they'll match it!

It's all used-car-salesmanship out there ladies -dont' fall for it!

Okay - return to topic! :)

I have this book! You can also buy them used on amazon, works out very reasonable. The one investment I have already made has been buying various books and magazines :) Can't go wrong with that one

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWedding Dates

Now that we're at NVC and hopefully leaving NVC for the embassy soon, I'm just *starting* to look at wedding stuff again. Scoping things out VERY tentatively. There's one location that has a date available during a time that *might* work. I may take the gamble on the deposit because it isn't too much money in the grand scheme of things. But I won't go crazy booking up all the aspects because I can't afford to game that many deposits.

I think it depends on your personal financial situation, how much you know about the timelines for your SC and your embassy, and how well you think you can deal with having to scrap ALL your plans and move things to a later date.

If you can handle all that stress of not knowing, and it won't be an investment that will ruin you financially, then go for it. But know that no one - especially the Embassy - will feel pity or speed up the process because you've planked down a lot of cash on that dream restaurant, etc.

Can I ask around what month's/dates you are considering?

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I am just hoping for a Fall wedding and it is hard not to at least LOOK at things!! :)

It sounds like the police were trying to scare him. If they really wanted them all out of the country, there is a deportation process and it would have to be documented. Get the police report now BEFORE you file your I-129 and see what it says so you know how to complete your form and there are no suprises later. Based on the outcome of this, you may need to consider a lawyer.

Because they want the child to be president of the United States one day and they can't have that if the child isn't born here! laughing.gif

I would get it about 2 weeks after you enter the US and before you get married. A lot of people in the AOS forum have experienced problems trying to get one after they were married as the SSA doesn't always seem to understand the policy. Especially if you are a woman and planning on changing your name - get it before you get married in your maiden name and then go back after marriage to change it to new name.

I sent each of my friends who came to my wedding a group picture of all of us and me on my wedding day. It was a 5 x 7 picture in a $1 frame. I sent it via fedex and now, one of them got a bill for 15GBP, 30 times the actual value of the item! They wanted to charge them import and duty fees. Fedex says it is UK's Customs and Excise, I am still waiting to hear back. In any case, we are certainly NOT paying that! What a joke!!

United KingdomBad Credit in the UK?

Also, if your spouse has good credit, then start linking your name to all of their accounts. It will quickly rub off on you and any reason for possible secondary UK checks should not be necessary. I would imagine in they are only checking the UK because there is no US credit history.

My cousin had a mortgage applicant with A+ credit sitting in front of him who'd only been in the USA for one year so he checked his credit in the UK and found that the guy had abandoned debt over there. He denied the loan. I guess the moral is...if you have bad credit in the UK, don't ask for a loan from my cousin.

So if this DOES happen to you, then just apply somewhere else. It sounds extremely rare that lenders are checking the UK at all. And I would assume you would have to give them full UK details (address, etc) as there is no other way to track applicants. You could withdraw your application at that time and apply somewhere else before the check is done.
