Getting the visa through a US Embassy / Consulate IV unit - well we all like to think it doesn't matter, so that's a plus.

IF the country in question, you know - where the airport is -
has passport control there, where they check your name against a list of people,

well, that's a different matter entirely.

Best to find out what your country does for debtors and those that might get on a list, at passport control, aye?

Hi there! It seems you are going to use the New Delhi consulate - we used the Mumbai one. It seems the two have different procedures for scheduling interviews. Mumbai releases dates about 1 week in advance on the traveldocs website, and they told us to wait until we received a letter saying our case was ready for final processing. You can try calling them and asking once your case reaches the NVC. Hope this helps!

An update on my situation: My fiance just had the interview, and her K-1 visa was approved! dancin5hr.gif Only a quick 10 minute interview.

77 days from NOA1 to approval! I can't believe how lucky we are!

fiancé made payment for Visa today at BPI. got receipt. So we have manila case number and we have paid for visa. I ask you Experts

 

1. can we now go and schedule the interview?

 

2. would my fiancé need to do that or would I the petitioner do it?

 

3. I notice that on the U.S. Consolate website it wants you to create a profile. Should the petitioner create this or the Beneficiary or both?

The way it's gone for us in Mumbai, India:

 

NVC received letter said we should fill out DS-160, so my fiancee (beneficiary) did that, and created the online account at ustraveldocs - she created it, but anyone can access if they have the password. We could then pay fee and schedule interview, but we called the consulate, and they said we should wait until my fiancee receives a letter saying the case is ready for final processing - we received that a couple weeks after the NVC received the petition, and now we are just waiting for the PCC to be issued before paying the fee and scheduling the interview - earliest available interview slot is only a few days later, so it is not a big deal.

I never got my NOA2 and I called USCIS to speak to Immigration Officer and they said my petition wasn't approve and still in initial review when I called to inquire about the computer glitch that happen at CSC. They flat out said NO ... then I just check my email after the previous reply. I could not believe what I saw in my inbox ... and I have a case number. What is going on? 

 
But this is a blessing, I've been praying and praying, I'm like in a dream state. My fiancé is going to be with me soon. *sigh* Now what to do? I can't believe this happen before Christmas ... I need to tell my fiancé. 

 

 

 

Another emotional roller coaster due to this glitch! Congrats!!! :)

You would still get the NOA2 in the mail, though, so calling or not wouldn't really make a difference. And personally, although I absolutely HATE the waiting, I think it's also a sign of impatience on my part to start calling now. They're not going to speed up my case just because I called. I'm no more special than the files they're currently working on.

 

That's the thing, though. I didn't get a NOA2 notice in the mail. I just got the letter from the NVC. They seem to have completely bypassed the NOA2 step. The only reason I called was so that I could get evidence that my I-129F petition was actually approved. Once I receive it, I will send it with my affidavit of support to my fiancee.

Sure. It was 1-800-375-5283.

After getting your case status, press 3 to talk to a customer service rep to report a problem. The initial person I talked to, was very lower level, so if you need anything that requires authoritative answers, they will forward your call to an officer. The wait time for me was 90 minutes, so I left a call back number, and they called me back after about 100 minutes.

Hey all, I need some advice. On Friday I'm leaving to visit my fiance for a couple of weeks. Since we haven't received an NOA2 when seemingly most others from the CSC have, I'm suspecting that we'll get an RFE. I'm worried I might get it while I'm gone and won't be able to check the hard copy to see what it's for. I'm considering doing a change of address to my parent's place for the weeks I'm gone, that way should we get one my parents could check and let me know what it is. Then if it's something I need from him, I could just bring it back with me instead of losing time with the slow and sometimes unpredictable mail service there. What do you guys think? Is it silly to change my address for such a short time period when I have no idea if I'll even hear anything while I'm gone? Could it cause me problems in the future? Am I completely overanalyzing and overthinking this process, as is so easy to do??

 

Considering mail usually has a lag time of about a week...you might only gain something for the second week. Is it worth all the trouble just for a week? It's not like the RFE would be super time sensitive, and I doubt you would need much from him, as long as you submitted authentic signatures (not copied) on his documents - this portion is mostly just a background check on you.

 

I wouldn't do it. Just enjoy your time with him! smile.png

 

Also it seems almost all of early November has already been processed or RFE'd - hope you find the same surprise as I did!

Thanks! I called them today and the officer said the order to send the NOA2 had been given, but it wasn't logged as sent. He gave the order again, so I can send the copy to my fiancee for "Evidence of approved I-129F" (stated in DS-160 confirmation page).

 

He also said "Congratulations! Your petition has the fastest approval time he has ever seen" dancin5hr.gif

Here I was lamenting how I hadn't received a NOA2 yet despite my NOA1 being Nov 5th, and I just received a letter in mail saying that NVC has received and sent out my approved petition as of Dec 9th!!! Woooohoo! That means it is probably reaching Mumbai today! Amazing - my online status as well as the USCIS phone line says my petition is still in initial review with the last update Nov 7th, haha.

I am October filer and even though I see a lot of November people getting a lot of progress done and I am sure in time some December filers will get their NOA2 approved before me.  I am not discouraged.  What I wonder is where my packet is at or is it even being looked at?  It should be difficult as we both were never married nor did have any children. 

 

Yeah, mine should be completely straightforward too. Maybe our cases were assigned to the same officer who then promptly went on a month long vacation, haha.

I'm not really sure if that 02 is for K2, but we followed 01. It's really weird having two cases...lol We don't have our visa yet,  last ceac updates Nov 20th from AP to READY.

 

How about you? Do u have your visa already?

 

I know. It got me really confused. lol I'm not expecting my Visa to arrive until next week (crossing fingers here), it's only been two days since my interview. :) I see you got interviewed Nov 7, it's been two weeks now and it's not yet Issued? :( Wonder what's taking them so long to process.

Just a question, noticed on your timeline that it only took you guys a month from NOA2 to the date of interview. Did you have to wait for your papers to be received in the manila embassy before you scheduled your interview? After my attorney experience I would say definitely no to hiring one; waste of money, takes longer and still get a RFE.  Unless someone can highly recommend one (and I don't think I've seen any posts that are positive on any of them), stay far away, do the research using this website and file the paperwork yourselves.  You'll get faster responses to your questions here on the forums also.

We hired an immigration lawyer ourselves and still got an RFE. I wish I've found this site before we hired the lawyer. IMHO, it is a waste of money to a hire a lawyer. All our lawyer did was re-type the forms and have us sign them and organize the portfolio which we obviously can do ourselves. I agree, just follow the guidelines here in VJ and you'll never go wrong.  biggrin.png

Another thing is that I see some people that get an approval within days of their RFE reply and some get an approval after months!! What's up with that??

I didn't have original signatures on my letters of intent...that's it for me. It was a quick fix, I just needed to wait for the hard copy and for the weekend to be over in order to send it off! :0/

 

 

I noticed that too. And I believe that those that get approved sooner after RFE reply was received are for those cases with simple fix like yours. Ours were simple too, so we're hoping to receive our NOA2 hopefully before the month ends. (Fingers crossed)

Can someone please tell me what to expect during the RFE process? Is it silence the whole time? Do you get status updates when they receive it or when they review it?

I might be being impatient, but I got delivery confirmation of my document from USPS that it arrived to to VSC yesterday morning, but my status hasn't changed. I thought that they'd at least change it to say that they have it...

 

Yeah you should get a case status update  once they receive it. Mine says "On May 17, 2013, we received your response to our request for evidence. This case is being processed at our CALIFORNIA SERVICE CENTER location. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

You'll never really know what the RFE is about until you receive the hard copy. We thought we prepared thorough documentation too and even hired an attorney to do the filing for us. We got our first RFE notice on May 9th, we sent in our reply and they received it May 17th, 11 days later, we got another notice for a second RFE. Unbelievable!

 

Here's hoping your RFE won't cause you guys so much delay like ours is becoming. Best of luck!
