Philippinesi lost my visa packet!!! help!!!
QUOTE (maileen_bernis @ Dec 12 2008, 02:46 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
guys, thank u for ur sympathy and effort advising me what to do... u guys are right, calling the bus company didn't solved it but going there in person did.

i went to the hk airport and headed to the cityflyers bus co. , from there, i sought for the co. officer and explained to him what i have been through. without hesitation, he went inside the lost-and-found-room. when he came back to me, he ask for my passport so i handed it to him. then he went in again and when he came back for the last time, wwwwaaaaaaaaaaalaaah!!! he was holding our visa packets... dang i was shouting!!!

he said the call center agents are not able to tell me that they have found my items bec. the items are not at the service center yet. it was due to be turned over on Friday. that's how the cycle goes. had i not gone there, i could have been contacted on Saturday and i may have probably had flown back to phil. or canceled my flight this Sunday by then.

lesson learned. ill be guarding these docs with my life. hope u do too... u don't wanna go thru the stress and tension i went, trust me..

again thank u guys for reaching me out. u helped me a lot!!!

I just read this forum today and I'm so happy that you were able to find it. I can totally understand your stress when that happened coz I also thought that I ruined the packet when I received it. I was sleeping then when my cousin called me to inform that I have a delivery from Delbros, so I got up immediately and signed to received it and the delivery guy was teasing me that I finally can go to US. My cousin was so then excited for me offered to open it for me...I was so stunned then when i received it so I let her open the envelope...after that she showed me the warning not to open. I was so mad then thinking that I made a mistake and blamed myself for letting my cousin open it. Eventually after reading the information here in VJ, i just did right coz I did not open the brown envelope.. just the transparent envelope.... I was a nightmare for me....

That's my story of the stress just waiting for that final packet to come.

But all is well now.. so just celebrate that everything ends well.

Have a great life!

PhilippinesTo all Filipinos have you change your greetings from Merry Christmas to Happy Holiday?

I use MERRY CHRISTMAS if the person I'm greeting is a known Christian but most of the time, I use HAPPY HOLIDAYS just to be safe and to respect other people's belief.

US is a melting pot of all religious beliefs so I don't want to generalize and assume that people are all Catholics like people in the Philippines.

I am not a practising Christian and nor is my fiance but we still stay Christmas. It's just what we all know and have grown up with. In fact everyone in the UK I know says Happy Christmas, I've never heard anyone say happy holidays until I went to the US.

I guess every country has its own known greetings. Its good to know that you preserve your greeting for this season. And I also agree to PlatyPius, that this season is a mixture of all Holidays so I use HAPPY HOLIDAYS to cover all the celebration (Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year). That's a 3 in 1 form of greeting. Its not really a big deal.

QUOTE (PlatyPius @ Dec 22 2008, 05:03 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
It's a matter of respect, really. There are several holidays that converge at one period of time. There's Christmas, Yule/the Winter Solstice, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa. Shortly after that is New Year's day. Even if you want to believe that all of those others religions don't exist and/or are wrong, there's still the simple matter of wishing someone Happy Holidays instead of saying Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Both of them being holidays, I would bet that's where "Happy Holidays" actually came from - the American tradition of condensing things.

luv2uallday, don't you realize that YOU are the one who is being militant and arrogant by whining about "Happy Holidays"? If someone isn't Christian, are they still supposed to wish you a Merry Christmas? Some will, some won't. There aren't many people who actually get offended by "Merry Christmas", so I don't get your anger and forceful screaming of MERRY CHRISTMAS!!1 at people.

LOOSEN UP FOLKS!! Just think of the main reason why we greet people around us. For me, I greet them to share the Joy and the Happiness that this season brings to us... and not impose whatever greeting we want for other people to hear.

PhilippinesNSO OR CIVIL REGISTRAR COPY
QUOTE (taj'samericanwife @ Jan 2 2009, 09:52 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
hello people of the philippines...what did your USC spouses send for the I 130? a copy of the NSO marriage certificate or the one from the local civil registry? if i photocopy the original NSO copy...it wont be very clear? or should i just send the original NSO marriage certificate...its easy to get another copy anyway from NSO in the philippines right?

Just wanna share my case. I have my NSO authenticated birth certificate and that is the copy I brought for my interview but the lady who collected the documents asked for a copy of my BC from the local civil registry. She said the copy from the NSO is not clear.

They gave me the white paper for additional documents because of that. So the approval of my Visa was delayed. If you can bring both, its much more better.

PhilippinesMedical Appointment and USEM Packet 4 Letter
She will need the letter from the embassy, her passport and pictures and either the D-156 or the D-156 K.

When I went there before, the guard is very strict and will not allow others without the paper and they will not allow anybody exempt for the person who will have their medical exam taken.

I suggest that you wait.

Good Luck in processing your papers!!

PhilippinesBuying Ticket online
The way my husband did it was through travelocity.. He just forwarded the receipt to me and I had it printed. He bought PAL ticket for direct flight. He was afraid that I'll get lost if there is a stop over. tongue_ss.gif . I just asked him for the copy of the credit card that he used but it was not asked upon check in of the baggage. I kept 2000 pesos in cash for pocket money. Then they asked to pay for terminal fee and the travel tax fee.

Good Luck and Have a safe flight!

Philippinesmy SLEC medical experience 1st day
Wow you first day was very long!! There must be a lot of people there on Mondays. For the others who did not take their medical exam yet, I suggest you go there Thursday and Friday and very early in the Morning.

Go there in full stomach because the people there will ask you to walk in all 5 floors to complete all the medical exam and be attentive. People who work there are not very nice.. Once they call your number you have to respond immdiately or else they will eat you alive.

I had my share of bad experience too but all we can do is adhere to their system.. There are no other place to go to but there.

Good luck to everyone!!!

PhilippinesAn Honest Discussion About Fil/Am Relationships
QUOTE (Pinay Wife @ Jan 6 2009, 02:07 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi Ria,

Nope, sayang nga we were not seatmates. While we were on the same row, there were two persons between us and an aisle. Funny thing was I did not even get to see his face on the plane the entire time we were flying.

This is the entire love story. He said he noticed me when I stood up to put my carry-on in the overhead compartment. After I took my seat, he tried to get my attention by giving me an extra blanket. When I said thank you to him, I did not even look up (supladita eh hehehe) kaya di ko nakita ang face nya. For the 12 hour duration of the flight he waited for a chance to talk to me but the opportunity never presented itself so he started writing notes on pieces of paper and tried to pass it to me pero inabot din siya ng kahihiyan (was too embarrassed) so he tore the notes apart. For my part, I was clueless that the blanket guy was interested pala talaga. Finally, we arrived in Detroit and so he made a "do or die" decision. He wrote one final note (his third attempt), wrote down his email address and passed it to my Filipina seatmate and then nagtago na dahil hiyang-hiya siya. Sabi nya, if I did not write him back, at least he can say that he tried.

Guess you know by now the ending of the story luv.gif Northwest is a big part of our love story.

Saan ka sa FL pupunta? My brother and his family live in Coral Springs.

Happy New Year to you too! I'm so glad you are finally coming home to Stephen. Pasalubong kong halo-halo, chopsuey, siomai and siopao ha? Gosh, I really miss Chow King crying.gif

If you really miss Chowking, you can try the Chowking in 131 W Carson St Ste D, Carson, CA 90745 (310) 835-7100. My husband showed that to me when I got here. But we didn't try to eat there yet.

PhilippinesAn Honest Discussion About Fil/Am Relationships
*Question 1 - for American men: Did you seek out Filipinas through a dating agency or marriage broker, and if so, why?

My husband did not.

Question 2 - for the Filipinas: Did you ever place an ad or set up a profile with any international dating agency or marriage broker, and if so, why?

I did not join any dating sites.

Question 3 - for the American men: What are the differences (including physical) between your Filipina spouse and your ex-wife?

The ex-GF of my husband is also a Filipina raised in US and he did not like the attitude of American girls including the Americanized Filipinas. I'm taller than her, she is petite. I am nice but she is nicer unsure.gif according to my husband but he fell in love with me. Besides he like my being "suplada"/maldita" side. My husband has a lot of Filipino friends that's why he was exposed to Filipinos. And that is why he wanted to visit the Philippines and experience the Filipino culture first hand. He visited PH 3 times. First with his friends and second to live there for 7 months. That is the time we met and the 3rd time is to meet my family.

Question 5 - for the Filipinas: What are the differences (including physical, age) between your kano spouse and your last boyfriend or ex-husband?

My husband is much taller than my ex and more honest aside from other things. Filipino men, sorry if I will generalized this, are mostly BS's. They just wanted to say things that make girls happy which is also great at times but not all the time. Most Filipinos has still the macho attitude of collecting girlfriends even they are married already. I can say this because I have a lot of male friends and that's what they do most of the time.

Honest answers please.

I answered it in a very honest way possible.

Question 6 - for the American men who didn't meet their Filipina spouse through a dating service or marriage broker, what stories or rumors had you heard about those sites and the kinds of Filipinas you'd find?

This is not from my husband's opinion but from other Foreigner that I know. I work in a call center in PH and my boss is an American looking for love. He thinks that Filipinas that he he had dated have a lot of expectations from him. They expect him to pay all the time, give her allowance. Spend money for her family etc.. etc.... He said that Filipinas expect them to be filthy rich based on the color of their skin. Which is funny but also true for some cases. But fortunately now, he already found one decent Filipina.

Question 7 - for the Filipinas who didn't join a dating service or marriage broker, what stories or rumors had you heard about the kinds of men you'd find that way?

I just think that most men in a dating service are just plainly shy to approach women face to face and they prefer a get to know the girls firsts before really dating them or they are old men looking for someone who will take care of them or whom they can spend the rest of their lives.

PhilippinesReport of Marriage and Passport Amendment
Good Day! blush.gif

I came to the US in Febuary 2007 under the K1 Visa petition. My petitioner and I got married in March 2007. I recently got approved for my Lawful Permanent Residency application and am currently waiting for my green card to arrive by mail. My Phillippine passport on the other hand is expiring in November 2007.

My question is: Should I file 3 different applications (3 different forms) and pay 3 different fees for the following:

Report of Marriage
Passport Application (for Renewal)
Passport Amendment (for change of personal information such as maiden name to married name)

I would greatly appreciate your response to this matter. Thanks. blush.gif

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionCan I get a 551 stamp with no valid passport?
the post that you referenced contained a link to uscis memorandum which states:

If a conditional resident whose I-551 has expired and whose I-797 has “expired” or is about to “expire” requests documentation of his or her status for travel or employment purposes, the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS) officer who is processing this request should first check MFAS. If the Form I-751 is still pending, the BCIS officer should collect the expired Form I-551 and issue either:

• A temporary I-551 stamp with a 12-month expiration date in the conditional resident’s unexpired, foreign passport (if the expiration date of the passport is one year or more); or

If the conditional resident is not in possession of an unexpired foreign passport, a Form I-94 (arrival portion) containing a temporary I-551 stamp with a 12-month expiration date and a photograph of the conditional resident.

the memo is from 2003 so i'm not sure if things changed but sounds like you should be ok

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussionis it about a month later you get your bio done?
It appears to be a month between filing and biometrics for those who go through CSC.

I'd suggest you file a bit later -- as long as you file within the 90 day window (even if a few days before you PR card expires), you satisfied the requirements. So if you file 60 days in advance vs 75 -- does not make a whole lot of difference.

Alternatively, you can always reschedule biometrics once you receive the appointment letter, but it seems to be hassle, so I'd just file a bit later.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionNo Biometrics Yet !!!
Did whoever you spoke to say "USCIS application support center has not mailed a notice to you yet"? If she did, then I would not worry (yet); I think concern at this stage would be over the fact that the notice got lost in the mail. Or did she/he just did not know/did not look anywhere?

Hmm, maybe an infopass appointment? I'm also in San Jose and filed on 4/9 and I got my notice today. So it was really fast for me.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I read that USCIS now electronically cashes your check and destroys the hardcopy. You don't get the check back
Guess your bank doesn't either!!!
At least they do this process for the n-600. mad.gif

you do get a electronic copy of your check -- these are equivalent to the paper 'cancelled' checks.

if USCIS receives your petition outside of the 90-day window, i believe they will reject it. better to wait.

A period of five years has elapsed since you became a lawful permanent resident; or

I believe there is a waiting period to sponsor another immigrant through marriage, if someone gained citizenship through a marriage to a USC.

Which seems to be 5 years since becoming an LPR, as the OP cites (from a form?). But I'd check with an attorney.

I take that back -- the waiting period seems to apply to permanent residents only; not citizens. I'd still check with an attorney though about any other issues in the case.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionMortgage/closing documents
I think USCIS primarily looking for proof of joint residence (that would be the deed of trust -- proof of joint ownership/residence) and co-mingling of finances (that would be the joint mortgage statement(s) & notices for property taxes).

I also included other misc documents with our names together, such as title insurance policy, homeowner's insurance, etc.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionEvidence for I-751
do you have a joint lease -- evidence of shared residence is a requirement. prior addresses are fine as long as they have both your names on the statements, etc.

also, do you have joint health insurance?

well i have 4 children from previous wife, what they have to do in removing condition. thats why i had called the #800 customer service. they told me that is about children if they have immigrated with the spouse who is removing condition. i had spoken to two different customer service persons. may be both of them gave me wrong info.???

i read this section is being about the children of the petitioner (the person who is removing conditions), not USC. If USC has children from prior marriage, these children are not "your" children for the LPR. But if LPR has *any* children, I would include them all, as per the instructions.

hmm, i don't know -- i included the name of my son and put citizenship as "US citizen"; i think it's best to err on the side of too much information, rather than too little.
