Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionTraveling on I-551 stamp
Wow - this does not sound good. All I will have to show is the I-551 stamp, expired green card, copy of my I-751 application, and the canceled check with receipt nr on it. Hopefully that will be enough. What a hassle -- I just can't get the NOA out of USCIS, they keep submitting requests to the CSC but as of today still no NOA...

Thanks for the responses.

I just returned from Mexico yesterday with my 551 Stamp, NOA papers and my expired green card. I entered into the country in Dallas and was immediately sent into immigration. The immigration officer who first talked to me (prior to being sent to immigration offices) advised that all those entering the country without a valid greencard and only 551 stamps, NOA papers, etc will be sent to immigration...the reason for this is that they are finding that 551 stamps can and are in some cases fraudulent and therefore, additional checks and balances are required by INS into their systems to prove you are legit. I was detained by INS about 20 minutes while they checked out my status and my NOA information. If I were you, I would not leave the country until you have your NOA papers.

You had your "NOA papers" -- your NOA1 authorizing you to travel -- and you were still detained?

James, yes I had my NOA paper authrorizing work and travel plus a 551 stamp in my passport, good until January 8, 2008.
The officer still sent me into the INS offices because they are seeing more and more fraudulent documents of this type. He indicated that the officers have been instructed to send all those with these documents into the office for additional checks. This guy may have been more vigilant than most or maybe it was because I was coming in from Mexico (I am Canadian). Who knows; but i do know I was home to Canada one month ago and had no problem coming back into the USA at that time so certainly what happened yesterday was completely unexpected. My advice to all is to make sure you have all the documents available. You could be inconvenienced if you are hauled into the INS office, but as long as you have all your documents and I do mean all, you will be on your way quickly.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionTraveling on I-551 stamp
I never received an I-751 NOA and I need to travel to the UK soon so I got an I-551 stamp in my passport. My question is for people who have travelled with an I-551 stamp before.
* What do I need to show the immigration officer on the way back in to the US -- just my passport (with stamp), or expired green card as well? Do I tell them the whole story of what happened or just show the passport?
* Has anyone had any trouble traveling with an I-551 stamp? Do they ask a lot of questions?

Thanks for the help.

Same here - filed at CSC in April, never received NOA. I think every suboffice is different, but here in California they won't just give you a stamp in your passport - I had to prove that I needed to travel. I had a letter from HR and my travel itinerary, and they gave me a 90-day stamp.

Still trying to get the NOA out of them -- you should call the National Service Center and ask them to submit inquiries...

Hello all,

My money order was cashed back in May07. After waiting more than 2 months for an NOA, I have made an Infopass appointment for my wife.

Has anyone had an experience similar to ours?
I was wondering, in order to receive a stamp in the passport must one be traveling in the near future?
Also, will they provide me with an NOA?

Thank you all

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionCSC I-751 filers still waiting for NOA or Approval Notice
If you (like me) filed your I-751 after April 2007 and have been waiting a long time for the receipt, the following information came out TODAY and might be helpful to you:
http://www.aila.org/...spx?docid=22749

Here is the text of the notice:

WASHINGTON – The California Service Center (CSC) is experiencing systems problems that
are causing delays in the printing of certain notices. USCIS believes the delays are primarily
affecting approval notices for cases decided between April 2007 and the present, although
production of some receipt notifications may be affected as well. USCIS is attempting to identify
the source of the problem and generate the delayed notices as quickly as possible. In the interim,
CSC has established interim procedures to help facilitate the needs of its customers.
• If USCIS has cashed your remittance check and you have yet to receive a receipt
notice, please verify your case's status on-line using the receipt number indicated
on your cancelled check. If you don't know your receipt number, please contact
the National Customer Service Center (NCSC) toll-free at 800-375-5283 for your
receipt number.
• If you believe that you haven't received an approval notice (for example - you
check the online system and it indicates that your case was approved and you
have not received an approval notice), USCIS encourages you to submit an
inquiry to the e-mail box: CSC.NoNotice@DHS.Gov. Please include your receipt
number and/or your "A" number with your inquiry. USCIS expects to respond to
email inquiries within 30 calendar days.

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussiondoes everyone get a receipt after mailed out I-751?
Yeah, Sean and I filed around the same time (beginning of April) and haven't received anything yet. We eventually went in to get a I-551 stamp in our Passports. Seems CSC slowed down quite a bit...

I've been crying about this for a while. I filled on March 30th. Check cashed on April 6th. No word yet. Please read following post. And please there is nothing to worry about. :)

I was told we suppose to get a receipt from USCIS as soon as they received it, usually you will get sth like that after 2 or 3 days after filed. We mailed out our package on May 29th, till today we havent got anything yet.

I was wondering if that receipt supposed to be received by everyone who filed as long as USCIS received ur package or only the ones send in package with certified mail?

By the way, anyone else filed with CSC recently? does anyone know how's CSC's processing progress? I know that they were pretty fast back to Feb and March.

thanks

I got our congresswoman to make an inquiry and her office let me know today that CSC told them they'll put in a request for Biometrics as well. This is so rediculous...

Just thought I should call CSC Customer service to see what the hell was going on with my case. I never received anything and my case was filed on March 30th. Well.... officer told us that we should have gotten our Biometrix appointment by now and our case will never move forward if we don't go though this process and eventually our case will expire and we'll have to apply again. Shocking... huh?.... She was nice enough to go ahead and send a request so we would receive biometrix appointment. We got the confirmation number of this request and she said we should be hearing something within 30 days otherwise call back with this confirmation number. Lets see what happens.

Hi -- I actually don't have enough experience with this type of thing -- maybe someone else on the forum has been in a similar situation and could help. But as far as I know, as long as you have a stamp you're fine. I don't see why they would give you stamp and then tell you you're going to have trouble getting back into the country. Seems like fearmongering to me -- but I may be wrong...

Good luck -- I hope all goes well on your way back in.

PAscal,

I went to the San Jose office to get the passport stamped and they did with 1 year 551 stamp. However they did tell me that since I had filed my 751 application after the 90 day window due to divorce process, my green card was terminated. But they went ahead and stamped it since now my applicatoin is with the center, and they warned me that I would have trouble coming in -. Wha tis that suppsoe to mean? I asked them what to do at the airport, they said to show the stamp and be honest. I am totally worried here, i need to travle on the 26th for 1 month. Please advise me,

No they didn't ask the whereabouts of my wife. The customs agents aren't there to make a decision about your case -- they're just checking to see if your I-551 stamp is legitimate. As long as you submitted your I-751, the case is in the USCIS system, and you obtained your I-551 stamp at a local office, you should be fine.

Nothing for me yet either :( I went in for an InfoPass again and this time they stamped my passport for a full year (it's amazing how these things simply depend on the mood of the officer you get...). I have now shifted my efforts away from getting a receipt to trying to get a biometrics appointment out of CSC. I got my company's attorneys involved who reached out to a liaison to see what they can do. I will post if anything happens.

I really don't know what else we can do... this is a really messed up situation...

Hi all,

I'm just checking in to say that we have still received nothing from csc. I can't even count how many days that is, but it is closing in on 4mos since recieving our stuff. Meanwhile, my husband can't get a CDL because the GC has expired (he tried before it expired but it was less than 60 days from expiry) and our car insurance was asking about why he doesn't have his CDL yet...yeah, get in line DMV, we want the damn thing too. haha

I cannot fathom what is taking so long. Tim has called and they just gave him some receipt number and said he has to wait..then they quoted that they are processing some from ages before our's...still far too much time for my comfort level. They told him to hang on to his case no because that's all he has to claim that he is legal. Doesn't sound right to me, but what are you going to do...I don't know what we would do if his employer wanted proof of extension! yikes!

any word on your end, sean? paschal?other csc'ers?

:)

Pascal, please share your return experience with us. I too will be travelling on the stamp next month and coming in thru SF. Thanks.

Everything actually went pretty smoothly at the airport. They sent me straight to Secondary Inspection, but I was lucky enough to be first in line there so it only took about 10 minutes. No idea what they did but they kept typing on their computers and then just eventually called me up and stamped the passport. They asked me how I became a Permanent Resident and what I do for a living, but nothing else. I expected a lot worse...

On another note, I received a bizarre email from USCIS yesterday concerning an official inquiry about my NOA1 (some might recall I submitted my I-751 April 2nd and never received NOA1). Here is the meat of the text:

“You are inquiring about the I-751 application that was just barely received and is pending at the California Service Center. If you would like to travel outside the country, go to the nearest District Office to have your valid passport stamped. This will show your current status in the United States.”

Just "barely" received??? Geez. And the officer doesn't address the receipt issue at all. Complete waste of time... To add insult to injury, I found out they spelled my name wrong and even after calling they can't seem to get it fixed so I'm going to make an Infopass to try to get it corrected. Sounds like I'm on a bad luck roll here, could use a break :)

hello!!! did anyone receive anything yet?
i received a letter from uscis letting me know that they're currently processing those who submitted September 13, 2006 and that my petition is pending since i submitted mine april (actually they received mine march 28 since i checked the tracking#). im just wondering how come most of those who sent theirs last month (june) received their noa, and biometrics appointment already. please keep me updated. im getting so worried already. thanks

Still nothing for me. I called yesterday and they told me that the two inquiries I've submitted has finally been asigned to a case officer at CSC. Which means 50 days after submitting the inquiries, someone will now start looking into it... *sigh*.

It seems like there was a huge problem at CSCin the April 2-6 timeframe. We just have to keep calling until we get something from them.

Also, I am in London right now (on an I-551 stamp). So i'm just hoping things go smoothly on Friday when I arrive back in San Francisco...

Anyone who filed in late march received anything from CSC yet? We have yet to receive a thing.

Hi sean and averi - do you guys have any updates? Have you received any news on your cases or managed to make some progress?

Hi guys,

I just wanted to say that we are also STILL waiting. We filed with CSC at the end of March. I seriously thought this was going to be a quick process so I'm with you with the complete confusion over this. My husband called the number for updates before our trip (3 weeks ago) and they didn't really tell him much except to wait for our NOA etc. I think he's going to call again. GC expires in less than 2 weeks. So annoying!

Please keep me posted with your updates. Thanks!

Hey - another South African I see! Lekker!

Yes I found out about the name spelling on the phone. I got my receipt # of my cashed check, and when they looked it up they spelled my name and it was incorrect (I have the most common last name in South Africa - I'm sure you know which one I'm talking about - and they always find it difficult to spell here).

I had my InfoPass appt after 60 days of no action (about a month before GC expired). I took a VOE (Verification of Employment) from my employer which also stated that I need to travel for business, as well as a copy of my itinirary and the cashed check. I don't think they'll give you an I-551 unless you can show that you need to travel - but not sure about that. I only got a 3 month extension (after much pleading).

Anyway - good luck!

Pascal07: how did you find out the name was spell incorrectly? Over the phone or when you when in for your InfoPass?

Also, for the I-551 stamp, when does one go about making an InfoPass appointment? 1 week before Conditional GC expire? 2 weeks? Because I simply had bad experience with making an InfoPass appointment since I just never been able to make one during our AoS process or that all appointment has been taken for the day I selected (which would be any date from the calendar they provide).

We are still few months away, but I simply want to cover as much ground and do my "homework" before hand.

Sorry to hear that - looks like end of March/beginning of April was just a bad date. I'm hitting this from all sides:
(1) Called National Service Center and asked them to submit an inquiry
(2) Went in for an InfoPass appointment to get an I-551 stamp
(3) Writing our congressman to see if they can help -- they were actually a huge help when I had issues with my I-485

Let's keep each other posted - is there a support group for abused I-751 filers? :)

I called the national service center again (because I just can't get over the fact that it's been 70 days and still no NOA...) and it turns out not getting the NOA is only part of the problem. My case is in the system, but they spelled my name wrong! My name was spelled correctly on the appllication, they just entered it wrong. Weird thing is that this isn't the first time this happened - my name was spelled wrongly (a different wrong spelling) on my original green card as well and I had to have it replaced back then!

They now sent a note to CSC to ask them to correct my name and send me an NOA. For what should be a simple process, this I-751 process is turning into quite a mess. Nothing surprises me about USCIS any more...

Even though I'm a newbie here I just want to say thanks for all the posts -- it's a real comfort to hear from others who are going through the same thing...

After much pleading I got a 3-month I-551 stamp this morning (it wasn't easy though...). They said that the case is in the system but that the receipt hasn't been mailed yet. They sent an email requesting that receipt be mailed. So now I'm back to waiting I guess...

I'm still curious to know if we're the only ones having this issue - anyone else having trouble with I-751's at CSC?

I hope you get this message before your appointment tomorrow. I happend to get a date for InfoPass appointment. Went there with my wife. We applied on March, 30th and had never heard from them. We were told that every thing is ok and our case was pending. Officer also said that looks like we most probebly won't have an interview as some code in the computer indicates that. He stamped her passport for another 6 months and told us that everything is fine and wait for fingerprints and background check appointments.

Make sure to take your passport with you tomorrow and good luck.

No - you don't need NOA1 (confirmation that case was received and extension letter) for biometrics, as far as I know. You just need NOA2 (biometrics appointment letter).

Since I never received NOA1 I have an I-551 stamp in my passport that lets me work and travel until July of next year (by which time I should receive my 10-year card).

Hi all - some might remember me posting that I submitted my I-751 at CSC on April 2nd. I never received NOA1 to this day, but after 3 official service center inquiries, 2 visits to my local office, hours of attorney involvement, and even getting my local congresswoman involved, I finally received my biometric notice today, Sept 22nd.

My advice is the same as what pretty much everyone here gives to those who run into difficulties with USCIS -- use every single avenue that is available to you. Call, write, plead, go to your local office, bug them until they fix it, because they can't ignore you forever...

I don't think I've ever been this relieved... It's been 5 1/2 months of real agony walking to an empty mailbox every day...

Anyway, there's no new information in this post, but I do feel that you guys will understand, so thank you for allowing me to vent smile.gif This forum is an amazing resource, it kept me sane all these months... Thanks!

Hi PW....definitely a big thank you for this list. I am always looking for updates and rely on this to see where I am in it. Maybe too much analyzing and crunching numbers sometimes. But what else can you do while "PATIENTLYWAITING"??? As if.

We had some misinformation regarding our MNL Rec'd date. Could you please update the list to show the following:

MNL Rec'd Date: 10-30-06

Not sure if this changes anything for us but want the date to be correct. We are actually hoping and praying to jump up into that March section. It seems like a short list for March.

Also wondering what people have seen for the duration between the Pre-Interview letter received by the beneficiary and receiving Packet 4. We received our Pre-Interview letter on 11-27-06.

Prayer List:
Drastic Weakening of Typhoon Durian

Stronger Coffee at USE so staff can work faster and get these VISAs pushed through the system

Pre-Interview Paperwork blessings so nobody will receive AR at Interview

C'mon......GIT ER DUN!!

Hello everyone. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Anyone still stuffed?

I started a new Thanksgiving tradition. Since I couldn't spend the holiday with Jennie....that will come next year....and all of my family lives in other parts of the US, I decided to have a Pinoy Thanksgiving!

Well, if you can call it that. I basically did nothing all day but watch football and eat Longanisa and rice.

Anyway. Can you please change our Manila Received date on the list from 11/7/06 to 11/2/06?

Thank you. Ingat ka everyone.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionU.S. Embassy in Jamaica; 4-6 weeks to receive interview date for K1 Visa?
I received the same e-mail from the embassy stating the exact same, however I called DOS the very next day only to be told that an interview date and time had already been scheduled. The embassy just sent me an email confirming the appointment last week. So definitely follow up with DOS as that email appears to be a standard response, while your interview has probably already been scheduled.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionCEAC updates

Alright yardies now I need your help on the updates on CEAC

Interview was yesterday 8/28.  After the interview CEAC was updated to a case creation date that said July 7, 2013 and status update of 8-28-13 and had immigrant visa application.  Later in the afternoon the status changed it now says Nonimmigrant visa application with a case creation date of 8-28-13 and status update of 8-28-13.

Is this what generally happens? Is this a good sign?

Clearly I have too much time on my hands as I keep refreshing CEAC LOL.  I am trying to keep patient but I am also so very anxious.

Please let me know if you know anything!!

Yes maam! This is great news and perfectly normal :-)

Is it possible for someone to give us a play by play of the status changes we will see on CEAC as folks wait on the issuance of their visa.
I.e.
1. Visa status will change from 'Immigrant Visa Application - Ready' to 'Non-Immigrant Visa Application- Ready'
2. .....
3. .......
4. ........
5. Visa now says issued, approximately 2-3 days before DHL waybill # is issued.

Thanks in advance.

Side note: I think they're moving quickly now becauseto the end of the fiscal year is upon us (September 30), maybe this is influencing these quick turn arounds. I pray they keep it up!!

Check my signature. I have the CEAC updates included on it. Hope it helps :-)

You're starting to scare me! :o

We're going to have to go through the Nairobi embassy and travel from Kampala to do so (with a newborn, no less). Hopefully we can do everything but the interview from the Kampala embassy, but I'm not hopeful.

I appreciate your posting this so at least we know to call for an appointment if we need to drop off paperwork. Any other experiences dealing with the embassy will be very helpful.

Best of luck!

US Citizenship General DiscussionA decision can not be made at this time!! Ughhh!
Hi everyone on visa journey! It has been a long five years to get here! Just when i thought it is over, this happens! Anyway had my citizenship interview yesterday at the seattle office. The IO asked me if i was nervous and i said a little and thats when he started asking me what do i have to be nervous about? Duh! this is the most important day of my visa journey! Anyway he swore me in then asked me questions on my application. For some reason he dwelled more on my marriage, whether we lived to together, asked me for proof. I had bank statements, my kids bithcertificates, lease , will, some letters addressed to both of us, car insurance and he said one of the bank statements was incomplete. Anyway he handed me a note saying i had passed the civic questions but then one box was checked "a decision cannot be made i will receive a written descison in the mail" What does that even mean? Does anyone have a similar experience? Does that mean am denied? Thank you all for your responses?
