US Embassy and Consulate Discussioni134 bank statements

hi, all:

another request for a quick question.

i've finally received my NOA2 (yayyy!), now i'm in the process of gathering all supporting documents for I-134. one of the required documents for I-134 is the bank statements. on 134, it states:

Statement from an officer of the bank or other financial institutions where you have deposits

my question is that does the statement(s) have to come from an office at the bank? can i just print the statement straight from my bank's website? i don't have problem driving to my bank and asking someone to give me a statement (thus "statement from an officer"), but what's the difference? also, my problem is that the bank i have the most money deposited in is a "internet-only" bank. it's the Citibank online branch (i.e. e-saving). it's not possible for me to drive to their branch and ask for a copy from an officer. so what do i do now?

any help would be appreciated.

thanks!

Are you primarily relying on assets for your proof of support or income?

my income is 75k a year, do i still need bank statement? please let me know...thanks DS

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionManila Embassy Interview
Thank you for the information PW. We were under the impression that it was not even possible to get official copies of the same clearance. If we can, that would be great! Our whole case is pretty straightforward and this would have been my only real concern for AR if they refused to look up the nbi that we'd already submitted while we were already there and decided they'll just do it in their own (eternally slow) time. She'll have no problem with the interview, and I'll be there for help/moral support. :)

We were going to do pretty much just what you said regarding the personal copy. She has made a photocopy of the entire nbi document and we will just send the official use half of it to the NVC for our CR1. Then for the K3 interview, we would take the photocopy, her personal half, and tell them that they should have the official half in their files already and give them our CR1 case number. Hopefully the satelite office will be helpful. Thanks again  and ttyl,

mich

x x x Note that if you read the instructions, they say that you have to submit a whole bunch of docs, *including* your nbi. These documents are forwarded to the embassy by the NVC. Ok, now the supplement says it's from the Embassy. x x x The next line says "Please have all documents at the time of your interview to avoid processing delays." This list is a subset of the other one, but that's no problem until.... nbi again?

We can only get one nbi per year. How are we supposed to send it to the NVC *and* have it at the interview?

We're already concerned how we'll handle the nbi for our K3 (since we'll submit it to the NVC before the interview and it should already be at the embassy by then). We're assuming that it's ok at the K3 to just tell them that they already have the NBI there at the embassy and give them the case number so they can look it up.

I'm not CR1 but I would assume that since NBI clearance has been submitted to NVC, the embassy would not ask for another one during interview since NVC forwards the entire case folder to Manila. The embassy people should see that the clearance is there in the file alright.

At any rate, the NBI issues two copies of clearance. The other one is for personal file. Perhaps your wife can give the embassy her personal copy if embassy insists on another clearance. Before she surrenders her copy, make sure she keeps a photocopy on file.

Another thing that your wife can do is to go to an NBI satellite office and bring with her a copy of her NBI clearance and ask if she can have another copy issued. It's not as if your wife is applying for a new clearance. She will only be asking for a copy of her current clearance. Just tell NBI that the embassy needs another one. If the satellite office agrees, it only needs to scan the bar code in her clearance and she'll have another clearance in less than 10 minutes (if line is short).

this is really confusing to my poor little brain, so maybe someone that's already been here can clear this up for me.

We got the DS-230 packet today (yay!) for our CR1 petition from the NVC. It had the instructions that we expected, but also had a supplement. Now this is weird. Note that if you read the instructions, they say that you have to submit a whole bunch of docs, *including* your nbi. These documents are forwarded to the embassy by the NVC. Ok, now the supplement says it's from the Embassy. It's called "Supplement to instructions for immigrant visa applicants (OF-169) in the philippines". The next line says "Please have all documents at the time of your interview to avoid processing delays." This list is a subset of the other one, but that's no problem until.... nbi again?

Reading through the DS156K form and I see the request for proof of engagement. What kind of proof needs to be submitted? helpsmilie.gif

This is the letter that your fiancee will make with signature that she/he is willing to marry you. If you gave her a ring, you can show the ring too. But most important is the collection of evidence of relationship- photo of both of you, documents that will prove that your fiancee has visited you, bank statements that show transactions made in your country, documents that will show that you've been together- hotel receipts with both of your name, airfair tickets showing both of your names, cards and notes.

I apologize if this has been asked before, I couldn't find it in earlier posts.

I am married to a US citizen, my conditions have been removed, and I have my 10-year card.

My 3-year "card anniversary" is June 30th. Do I have to wait until June 30th to apply for Naturalization, or can I apply 90 days before (March 30th)?

Thanks for the advice - I read the N-400 instructions but I'm still confused...

It do remember reading somewhere that you don't need to send in any information for a speeding fine, but this confused me a little bit...

US Citizenship General DiscussionConfused by "Guide to Naturalization" instructions about Part 7 and 8
Hi all

In the document checklist section of the Guide to Naturalization it says the following:

If you answer “Yes” to any of Questions 1 through 15 in Part 7 of form N-400, send:
A written explanation on a separate sheet of paper.
If you answer “No” to any of Questions 1 through 5 in Part 8 of form N-400, send:
A written explanation on a separate sheet of paper.

On the N-400 form I have, which looks like it's up to date, Part 7 and 8 are about trips outside the US, and marital history, with no question numbers. So this can't be it. I'm assuming this refers to a different part, but I can't figure it out. Any thoughts?

In essence, I'm trying to figure out if I need to send in any evidence about my $150 speeding fine I got last year mad.gif

Thanks!

US Citizenship General DiscussionReady to file -- any document advice?
Hi all

My N-400 package is ready to go but I thought I'd check in one more time on this forum -- something I should have done before my I-751 nightmare happened last year! I'm submitting the following:
-- N-400 application
-- 2 photos
-- check (of course)
-- copy of green card (front and back)
-- copy of wife's US birth certificate
-- copy of marriage license
-- tax transcripts for the last 4 years (married filing jointly)
-- separate piece of paper explaining affiliations (based on these instructions in the document checklist: If you answer "Yes" to any of Questions 1 through 14 of Part 10 of form N-400, send: A written explanation on a separate sheet of paper)

It seems that a lot of people also send additional documents like joint back accounts, bills, photos, etc. But since my I-751 has been approved I don't see a reason to do this again. Any thoughts on that? I'm thinking the thinner the packet, the happier the Immigration Officer is going to be smile.gif

Thanks in advance for the advice!

US Citizenship General DiscussionCheck cashed - no receipt number?
Hi all

When the check for my I-751 was cashed, there was a receipt number written on the check (WAC....) that I could use for tracking. My N-400 check was cashed this morning - no such number. There is a 7-digit number written on the check that I don't think is a receipt number. Do they not write receipt numbers on the check for N-400s?

Thanks!

If you have a valid passport and valid green card, you can travel as much as you want -- as long as you don't miss any USCIS appointments, and don't stay out of the country for more than 6 months.

Thanks for the post. I mailed my form to the LA office this week, but the requirements they sent me were slightly different:
* BI-1664
* Notarized copy of passport
* Notarize affidavit that you don't have any other citizenship AND the reason why you want dual citizenship
* Regular copy of green card
* Money order for $19
* The requirements did NOT say anything about pre-addressed envelope...

Maybe it's different depending on the consulate you file at...

I have a related question. When you leave your home country with your home passport (South African in my case), don't they ask you for proof that you will be let into the US? So at that point, won't you have to show your US passport to show that you can legally enter the US? I'm wondering if this presents a problem, walking around with 2 passports...

Thanks!

Hi everyone

So I had my interview this morning as well. Waited about 30 mins, and the interview was 15-20 mins. Basic questions, just running through everything. I have to say though, profiling is still alive and well in the US... The longest part of the interview was the part where the officer was grilling me about my wife's heritage, since her maiden name is Haddad (she's 1/4 Lebanese). Ugh.

Anyway, all's well that ends well. Now waiting for the Oath letter!!

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 April 2008 filers
Another quick (and probably the last for a while...) update. Biometrics done this morning. I guess now the long wait starts...

Just a quick update - got my biometrics letter today. Appointment date is 5/14. I'm surprised it came so quickly (especially after a particularly nightmarish I-751 journey...).

Updated full timeline now in my signature. Let's hope April 2008 is a good month to file for all of us good.gif

Hey
When you received first NOA, does it say anything about biometrics?
Like you will receive letter for it?
I-751 did. I am just wondering if it is similar NOA.

Yes - it just said that you will get a separate biometrics letter. No indication of how long the wait is though...

Got my NOA today -- see below for update timeline.

Interesting though, it said "receipt with exception", and talked about "missing evidence", even though I'm sure I sent everything. I did a quick search and it seems like this is the boilerplate notice for lots of people and that it's nothing to worry about. Please indicate if your NOA's say this when you get them... Thanks!!

My check was cashed on 4/18 and I don't have NOA yet (also no receipt number on the check). So yeah, I'm starting to worry too -- but you know, this is the USCIS we're talking about, things take a while, and there's often no rhyme or reason...

Hi all - hope I didn't miss an existing thread but I used search and couldn't find one. Anyone filing this month, let's stay in touch and follow each other's journeys!

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussionshould i be worried

You need to wait 45 day before they will do anything. Both California and Vermont has adjusted their time for logging in your petition and sending your your notice as of Monday, May 1st.

If you got the address correct on your receipt, then don't worry. It the waiting that is the killer. Best of luck.

Hi j-manu - you mentioned that California has adjusted their time for logging in petitions. Can you give more information on that? My check for I-751 cleared on April 6th but I still don't have NOA...

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionStill no NOA ...
Same here - filed April 2nd at CSC, still no NOA...

Hi chilltown,

I filed with CSC (received on apr 2) and also have gotten nothing. Very stressful! My husband's GC expires in less than 2 weeks. He's going to call them again today. So frustrating, I know. It sounds like you might be better off since at least you got a receipt. ? I don't know...Keep us posted!

:)

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionTraveling on I-551 stamp
Thanks - this puts my mind at ease. I thought if they march you off you're being detained, but it's good to know there's a difference between getting detained and going to the "Bad Boys Room". I guess I can deal with that.

And FYI, for those still waiting for NOA1 (like me), I heard something from my lawyer today that made me feel a lot better. As long as you have a receipt # (that you can get off your check or from your A# when you call NSC) you're ok. I was thinking that I'll be out of status unless I have an NOA, but that's not the case. As long as they tell you on the phone that the case was accepted before your GC expiry date you're ok (with or without NOA). The regulation states at 8 CFR 1216.4(a)(1):

"Upon receipt of a properly filed I-751, the alien's conditional permanent resident status shall be extended automatically, if necessary, until such time as the director has adjudicated the petition."

Of course this isn't going to help you if you have to travel, but it'll hopefully keep HR off your back if you work for a company that's demanding an NOA to allow you to work...

My husband travels very often (every month) out of the country for work. He has an I-551 stamp in his passport. Yes, he is sent to Secondary Inspections (not detained) or the "Bad Boys Room" as he calls it. They run his stamp through the system and is done.

The only action on your part when you travel, is that you leave plenty of time between your connections if you have one. He hasn't missed a flight yet, but has come close.

I should add that Mike travels with only his passport containing the I-551 stamp. He's never brought the NOA or any support paperwork. He has left and com e back into the country, at various POEs to various countries, about 10 times since we applied to lift the conditions.

Travel as usual, just expect to go to Secondary Inspections for visa verification. Leave plenty of time for connections. Just think of it as a break between flights and grab a beer or something to eat for that extra time you might have left.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionTraveling on I-551 stamp
Wow - this does not sound good. All I will have to show is the I-551 stamp, expired green card, copy of my I-751 application, and the canceled check with receipt nr on it. Hopefully that will be enough. What a hassle -- I just can't get the NOA out of USCIS, they keep submitting requests to the CSC but as of today still no NOA...

Thanks for the responses.

I just returned from Mexico yesterday with my 551 Stamp, NOA papers and my expired green card. I entered into the country in Dallas and was immediately sent into immigration. The immigration officer who first talked to me (prior to being sent to immigration offices) advised that all those entering the country without a valid greencard and only 551 stamps, NOA papers, etc will be sent to immigration...the reason for this is that they are finding that 551 stamps can and are in some cases fraudulent and therefore, additional checks and balances are required by INS into their systems to prove you are legit. I was detained by INS about 20 minutes while they checked out my status and my NOA information. If I were you, I would not leave the country until you have your NOA papers.

You had your "NOA papers" -- your NOA1 authorizing you to travel -- and you were still detained?

James, yes I had my NOA paper authrorizing work and travel plus a 551 stamp in my passport, good until January 8, 2008.
The officer still sent me into the INS offices because they are seeing more and more fraudulent documents of this type. He indicated that the officers have been instructed to send all those with these documents into the office for additional checks. This guy may have been more vigilant than most or maybe it was because I was coming in from Mexico (I am Canadian). Who knows; but i do know I was home to Canada one month ago and had no problem coming back into the USA at that time so certainly what happened yesterday was completely unexpected. My advice to all is to make sure you have all the documents available. You could be inconvenienced if you are hauled into the INS office, but as long as you have all your documents and I do mean all, you will be on your way quickly.
