US Citizenship General DiscussionBaby (US Citizen) After filing for Citizenship??
Based from what you wrote, since your wife is going for Biometric for N400 that means she's here, don't worry about the baby info, she can mentioned it at the Oatch Ceremony, when they send you the Oath of Ceremony later, there's some update info being asked but you give it to them at the time of the ceremony so it's nothing that will stop you.

IMPORTANT FACTOR

At the time of the Oath of ceremony, the baby will not be around yet, so there's nothing to update, even if the baby is born here in the US before that, there's nothing to worry because the will automatically be an american.

They requested the latest Bank info, latest pay stubs, or latest bills or updated info of the items you sent with the N400 if available, we only took a copy of the items we sent with the N400 application, the interview was requested latest bank statements, asked if she pays taxes, overall it was a very friendly interview, more like chit chat. The interview mentioned it's a big plus your husband is with you it validates the petition since it's based on Marriage.

Even though we selected the old test interview format, my wife got the interview under the new format, but it wasn't a big deal. Asked who discovery american and to write down Chrisptopher Columbus.

Yahooo, almost done just waiting for Oath Ceremony.

Appt for 9am, got there at 9am, Got called 9:10am out by 9:40 , interview went really nice, IT made a big different my husband was there in the waiting room, was told it supports the petition and also it case we need futher info he's right there since the petition is based on Marriage.

Made a couple of mistakes but didn't caused an RFE or to come back,

1) Make sure you bring updated information at the interview, in all the excitement we just brought the original of the items we sent in with the N400 but forgot to bring latest info.

2) Even though We selected option 1 the old test, my wife got the new test, instructed to write down Christopher Columbus. the rest was just basic chit chat and it was all done.

Just waiting for the OATH ceremony date by mail

Good luck to ALL

US Citizenship General DiscussionPlease Help!!! Full Time Housewife Applying for Citizenship

Let your husband know you guys are due for a Backdated refund, since you are at home it's in his or should i say both of your advantage to file Married Jointly, H&R block even have a promo where they will do go through your back taxes and refil for you.

That shouldn't be a major hold for your citizenship but for a financial point of view do it right away since it's going to be in your advantage having a few thousand of $$ on the way from IRS.

did she apply to remove the conditions on her green card?? you have to file form I-751 and evidence of a bona fide marriage anywhere between 90 days and the day the card expires... which would be 2 years after she got the card...

Hello all,

My wife came in the USA as a K-1 in Jan 2005. We were married March of 2005. She received her (conditional ) Green Card August 2005.

August 2008 will be her 3rd year as an LPR. According to the Guide to Naturization, she can apply for US citizenship 90 days prior to Aug 2008, correct? Or is it the 3rd year after her (unconditional 10-year) Green Card was approved?

Thanks in advanced,

Regards,

George

that is correct....

Yes, my we had already applied for the Removal of conditions I-751 and it was approved, my wife has her 10 year Green Card Now.....ok, so it seems she CAN apply for US Citizenship , thanks for replying MarilynP!

Thanks for replying folks....Darn...thought we can just apply for the N-400 instead of getting a replacement...makes me think why we can't just do that and save the $$$ on fees. USCIS has records to show that my wife's perm card is still valid!

Guess we'll just "follow the rules"....I wish they made some exceptions to the rules.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAffidavit of Support Questions re. part-time job
A few questions on the affidavit of support, some specific to our case:

1) Am I right that the affidavit of support is to be presented at the interview only? It needs not to be mailed to the Consulate, but only to the foreign fiancee, correct (or brought in person by the US fiance at the interview)?

2) How old can the information be? For ex. should the letter from the current employer be just a couple weeks old, or can it be dated from around the time the NOA2 is granted, which can be 3 months before interview? i.e. how soon can we start the process?

3) Does the income level to meet poverty guidelines include only employment income, or can it include interest income from investments? How about unemployment benefits? i.e. on a 1040A form, do they look at Adjusted Gross Income (which includes everything) or just wages , or wages and interest and dividends?

4) If you have many assets, yet a part-time low-paying job - my current situation - is it really critical to have a sponsor if the income was just below poverty level for last year?
I have not looked for a permanent position and will not until my fiancee is with me in the US. I make too many trips to be with her that no company would think of hiring me knowing I am away 2 to 4 weeks every 3 months! And I am putting her first and foremost, even before a job.

5) How about foreign assets? Would they be interested in that? I own real estate in France but wonder if it would matter to them.

Anyway, I do not meet the "full-time" job requirement, I did not meet the "125% poverty level" for 2007 (was way over in 2006 and the years before), yet I have many assets. Do they go "by the book" or really look at the big picture? If the latter, I have no reasons to worry because my assets are way above 5 times the difference between the annual income and the needed 125% of the poverty level.

Sorry if these questions have been answered before, but it's always good to rehash. Thank you all for your help.

A phone card that has no record of who you called or visa charge is no evidence of proof of call plain and simple no0pb.gif

And a stamped passport and boarding pass is no evidence that you actually met the person you are claiming to have met. And pictures aren't actual proof either, they can be altered digitally, remember Forest Gump? Neither are letters from family and friends, they could be lying.

I use the "Mega Clean and Stable" phone card to call Brazil. My online account lists all phone numbers called.

A passport stamp and boarding pass to another country with photos of the two of you with the fiance(e)'s family and friends during that time are pretty compelling.
Same with credit card or ticket receipts. If they show you took the cable car to the Sugarloaf in Rio and have pictures on the top that day, it's difficult to fake.
I wish they would allow digital cameras to the interview, my fiancee could show thousands of pictures of us smile.gif Hard to digitally alter so many pictures!

I think car rental receipts with both names and driver's license numbers are actually one of the best proof. Hotel receipts are not far behind, especially if they list a passport number. Last time we traveled together, we made sure both our names were printed.

I do not believe in emails - I can forge as many as you want in a few minutes. I think copying emails or chat conversations are a waste of time.

QUOTE (Hannah+Vito @ Sep 7 2008, 03:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
ok thanks for that, so if i go the honest route and actually tell them i was once treated, in the last couple of years, should i get a letter from my doctor or something else? unsure.gif i'm not sure what would be expected as evidence? i do hope this doesn't affect future health insurance, as i will be going on my Future hubbys' unsure.gif

Pre-existing conditions affect mostly "Individual health insurance". If your spouse has a group insurance with a company for ex., then it's usually not an issue to be approved adn/or covered, unless it is something that happened within the past 6 months (or if you're pregnant).
When it comes to health insurance, when in doubt, ask! Your 'hubby' should call his insurance carrier now and ask what coverage you will get, at what price, and what will NOT be covered and why (what are the pre-existing conditions limitations). Be aware that deductibles might be doubled, because they're usually PER "covered person". Meaning that if he has a $1,000 deductible, once you're married, it will be $2,000. If only one of you gets sick, reimbursements will start once the $2,000 is paid. It's another trick insurance companies use to spend less. I can go on and on...
After I moved to the US, I still remember the first time my company sent me the "Health Benefits book". I looked at the 50+ page binder and ask myself "what the heck is this...?". Coming from France, where you can go anywhere anytime and you don't pay anything, that was a big shock! Even the notion of choosing your plan was news to me... HMO, PPO? Deductible?? Co-payment??? All words unknown to me and I am sure many of you arriving to the USA wink.gif

has anyone been through the medical and had depression in the past? how did it affect your medical? and did you have to give them a letter from your doctor stating it was treated and no longer a problem?

Actually, this is a good example of what to say and what not to say.
I would venture - and this is my personal opinion - that if you have been treated, then I would not say anything.

There's another underlying major issue with saying too much. The doctor will take notes. All these notes will be recorded.
And when you're in the US and are looking for an Individual Health Insurance - and I don't wish anyone here to go through this! - assuming they can't get hold of your files in your country, the health insurance company will ask for the files from the medical visit of the immigration interview. My insurance broker already told me!

What you say at the medical visit may affect your future ability to get insurance, or to get it for cheap... sorry, for less than an outrageous price. There is no such thing as cheap health insurance in the US. Welcome to capitalism smile.gif

Of course, it has to be something that no doctor in the US would not be able to find unless you tell them. If you broke your arm, better tell. If you had surgery, better tell. But I would skip kidney stones (no pun intended!) and treated depression, maybe even miscarriages for women.
It might be a good thing to ask your doctor in your home country if anything from your medical history can be traced back.
Better start fresh and clean when it comes to anything health-related in the US wink.gif

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical exam: about medical history and gynecological check
My question was not so much about hiding something, but rather not telling too much. How much details should you give? Does the doctor need to know about your kidney stones, or that your wrist is still painful after that last ski accident?... wait, there is no skiing in Brazil smile.gif

Let me ask the question in a different way: do you have to fill out a 4-page medical history questionnaire at the exam, or do you merely answer the doctor's questions? Big difference!
And what kind of questions does the doctor ask? Is it "How do you feel today" or "how many times have you been to a doctor/hospitalized in the past 10 years and why". Again, big difference!
Of course I understand that questions may vary from one doctor to another. The experience of others here are extremely valuable. I want to hear from you so we can be ready. Thank you.

Couldn't find the info on the archives, so I am asking.

How much medical history - if any - do you have to provide at the medical exam (this is for the exam prior to K-1 visa interview)? If asked, do you have to be truthful and mention diseases/illnesses/accidents/etc... that will not be discovered during the test?
Because the medical exam (and tests) is to try and discover anything that would meet the guidelines for refusal, I am wondering why they would ask for medical history anyway.

To you women out there who went through the medical test, is there a gynecological exam and what is the doctor looking for (if he told you)? I was reading on this forum that one doctor only wanted to check that the woman was indeed a woman and just took a quick glance.

- Completed DS-156, DS-156K, DS-157, FS-257a and mailed to Fiancee for use at Interview

- Made 6 additional Passport photos for Medical (1), DS-156 (2) and for the Interview (2)
- Started getting Police reports together

As an ongoing effort, we always knew that eventually we would need to have our evidence of Proof of Ongoing relationship for the Interview - Letters, photos, phone bills, additional visits (travel & hotel receipts). Maybe the Consulate will look at it, maybe not. We'd rather just be ready.

Alex,

Your fiancee will need to send her DS-230-I and her signed checklist to the consulate before they will schedule her interview. I understand from others who have been through this more recently than I that they now also want a passport photo and photocopy of the passport ID page in advance of the interview.

If these things are sent before the approved petition arrives from the NVC nothing will happen.

Be careful - the checklist on the web site has some differences from the instruction sheet and checklist that will be in the visa application package.

Yodrak

We just got NOA2 via e-mail on March 13. I don't even have a hard copy of I-797.

From this BKK Embassy info:

http://bangkok.usemb...20Checklist.htm

the only Item BKK Embassy needs is a signed checklist. In a few places they say do not send anything else unless requested.

My goal, as I am sure most of people here, is to schedule an interview as soon as possible.

I know, that I am making some assumptions here:

- NVC will clear all the background checks;
- Embassy will not simply toss the checklist if they don't have the rest of documents arrive from NVC.

Is there any reason not to mail the checklist to Embassy now? Has anyone try that?

All opinions and ideas are welcome.

TIA

Alex.

SanFrancisco-BKK.

What do you think?

SanFrancisco,

I agree that the checklist that is sent in the visa application package could be a lot more clear, but read what it does say more carefully. In the first step is clearly says to send DS-230-I back to the consulate. At the end, following the signed statement, it indicates that the signed statement must be sent to the consulate before an interview will be scheduled.

The second step says to fill out DS-156 and DS-156K, but it does not say to send them to consulate. So it is not as clear as the instructions posted on the web site, but neither does in contradict them.

Yodrak

Well, the check list for Embassy website

http://bangkok.usemb.....heck list.pdf

specificaly ask not to send anything but the marked and signed checklist.

Now, the checklist embassy sends to people is an older one.

http://web.archive.o...sl-1076_eng.pdf

Here they ask to send DS230, DS156, and 156k.

That why I am confused.

SanFrancisco-BKK,

Start reading elsewhere - DS-156 and DS-156k do not get sent back to the consulate. They are turned in at the interview.

Yodrak

So, what is the latest consensus on the list of documents to be send back to Bangkok Embassy in respond to Packet 3? From all the reading I have the following:

1. DS 230 Part 1
2. DS 156 Online version with bar code
3. DS 156K
4. Two photographs (2'x2')
5. Copy of the passport
6. Check list.

Did I miss anything?

TIA

Well, the check list for Embassy website

http://bangkok.usemb.....heck list.pdf

specificaly ask not to send anything but the marked and signed checklist.

Now, the checklist embassy sends to people is an older one.

http://web.archive.o...sl-1076_eng.pdf

Here they ask to send DS230, DS156, and 156k.

That why I am confused.

I will include some sort of cover letter.

No militay service - she is a girl.

I am not sur i need to send police record, court record, birth certificates, DS157, I 34 and supporting evidence with Packet 3. I was thinking she can bring it to the interview.

Congrats on the final stages. I have a similar list. How about the new letters of intent? Military service (if applicable), Police record, court record, birth certificates, and passport copies , and I have to have a 157- not true for all countries. ANd of course the I134 (notarized for Turkey)and supporting evidence.

I'm sure you've got it covered- Good Luck!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDo I have to return anything to the consulate?
If I were you, I'd contact the embassy either by phone or email and clarify.

Just my $0.02.

Hello
I just got my package 3 in the mail:)))
But I am a ltl confused because it just says "when you have all necessary documents ready call #..... to schedule an interview appointment".
I was with the impression that I have to send some of the papers back to the consulate, but it does not say so....
I am confused what should I do?

Each consulate is different... Some want you to submit a checklist, some want the DS230, some say just call and make an appointment when you are ready... for you it sounds like the latter.....

Wow thanks,I thought i had missed sth :)
thanks for the help and good luck to ur interview, I see it's coming:)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionGot Our Interview Date!!!
Hi Ken,

I am in BKK now. We are leaving to Singapore tomorrow, May 3. I will be back to SF May 8. Let's definitely try to get together in SF!

Thanks a lot for all the good wishes.

Per BKK Embassy website: our interview is on June 11 at 7:00 a.m.
CONGRATULATIONS TO US!!!!!!!!

Alex, that's awesome. I'm super happy for you two. Since you filed one month ahead of me and got approved one month ahead of me then I should expect my interview date sometime around the middle of July which would be perfect. Are you still in BKK or home now. I'll be in the SF area next week and the week after for work. Maybe we can get together. Again, congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ken
