Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionBank Statements, Bills... How many?
We sent the last 3 months bank statements, and randomly pick some statement over the past 2 years.

Our Join account
Our mortgage bill( For the past few months my wife wrote the mortgage payment as such we had receipt of those payments, so we sent copies of the check that we downloaded from the online banking website)
A couple of utility bills

Insurance papers and medical insurance showing my wife on my policy as beneficiary,
Copy of insurance cards with both of our names on them. Who on their right mind if the relationship is not real would go through all those documentations?
Past 2 years income taxes, a few paystubs showing our status as married, and that was it.

We didn't send no letter from friends, relative and so on.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI am So Confused!!!!!!!
Since you mentioned march 06, you can apply 90 days before the expiration date on your green card, normally it's the interview date when the green card was issue. It also the date that's on your current green card.

let say march 17 08, so you can send the removal of condition form by mid to the end of December as long as you are within that 90 days window. The earlier, the better I don't know how fast is Nebraska, but CSC has been kicking those I-751 really fast, we got the 10year GC, 2 days before the current one expires, we had already received the 1year extension letter.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionVery bad news, we ned your help!!!
Your list looks quite good, I would submit anything else that you have, and wait for them to reply. If anything they should send you precise info of what they are looking for. We didn't even send out letters from friends regarding our relationship. We sent out our checking account info
current month, and every 3 months out to about the time the account was opened, so it shows a pattern of transaction from both of us.

utility bills, and everything that had both of our names in it.

Good luck, Don't stress it.

Send it out as soon as possible, hopefully they will get it before October 1st. That way your date explanation will make more sense, if they get it after the October 1st the explanation will carry less weight as you are still filing past that oct 1st date you mentioned. Always be honest and send it right away

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionHave expired green card and waiting for new card in mail. Can I leave the US and come back to US with a expired green card and interview letter?
We didn't get the I551 extension after the removal of condition status, however we were told we would be getting the green card within 30-60 days from the interview, if we haven't received it and plan to travel before that. You can make an infopass appointment and go there, we did make an appointment and got the card in the mail 2 days before the appt time. So you have nothing to worry about, I would start by making the infopass NOW as it can takes a couple of days to get a slot, If you can't find a slot before your travel date, I would take the letter and go straight to the local office, but have to get there before they opened there's usually a long line so not sure if your local uscis center takes walk in.

1st THING YOU SHOULD DO> GO TO A POLICE STATION AND FILE A REPORT>

Even if you do find it later you can always go there and make the correction, but as identity theft and security reasons it's best to protect yourself and report it to the police.

The next step is to go to immigration to file for a replacement.

Don't stress about it, take the time to do things as a couple, getting to know each other, once the kids come you will have less time to do all these things, so enjoy it while you can.
This calendar is very helpful

If you are regular you can type in your date and it will give you your ovulation time, but again just try to schedule something around that period, but don't sit down and counting the days, just Chill like many others have said give it some time, wait at least a year or so then maybe you can check with your OB GYN.

PhilippinesTake Destop Computer in Luggage
You got some great advice already, it's possible to take the desktop with you, you can tell them you have some work to do there, try to get a laptop that would be better, but if you can't afford to get one now and already have that PC you can give sure. The problem to keep in mind, your luggage will get bounce around a whole lot, so make sure there's no cd, or anything in there, and keep it in the middle of the suitcase with all your clothes around it beside the bubble wrap, bubble wrap it but not fully seal so the TSA when checking your bag can see it's a PC and they can put it back as it is. I've done it and never had any problem.

Magic Jack is your best friend it's $20 annually compare to monthly charges by Vonage. The main thing, you can try save that money to try to get her a broadband internet connection there.

Hello,

We live in California, USA. My wife has a family member in Canada and we'd like to send or purchase them a gift card at a popular store in Canada.

Here in the USA, a popular store would be something like Target ( http://www.target.co.../homepage.html)

Can anyone suggest a similar kind of store we can purchase (on-line) a gift card to send them?

Thanks for any help!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWife and baby stuck in Peru. Please help!
I am trying the "Customer Relations" route, hoping for a gesture.

I already need to dispute the charges from the phone company when Angela used a pay phone at the Lima airport to call my cell phone and they charged $200 for 3 calls, one of about 2mn, the next 4mn, and the last about 10mn. It seems the "additional charged may apply" meant you will be charged $49 for the connection.
Another lesson learned: never ever use a pay phone to call International with a Credit Card.
By the way, the company is "BBG" and they are already known for their scams. Just google "bbg scams" and you will see what we're talking about here.

Any chance you could call your credit card company and dispute part of the original charge since she didn't get to fly back...?

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWife and baby stuck in Peru. Please help!
Wife and baby are home safe. LAN did not offer anything and asked her to pay $2,499 for the next flight (the next day) with 2 stops to SFO. Since we had the non-stop to LA Korean Air ticket in hand ($1,500), she flew back with them and after a short stop in the back room at Immigration in LAX - they always do that for her - she was in my arms at 10pm Dec. 31st. Jan. 1st was a beautiful and warm day.
Thank you all for your support... and remember, always carry the original documents from immigration everywhere ;)

FedEx delivered the document at noon and she went to the airport where LAN would not bulge. They asked her to pay the regular fare ($2,500 total) and send a letter to Customer Relations later asking for compensation or reimbursement.
I instructed her to not trust them for the latter, so she will be flying Saturday with Korean Airlines to Los Angeles. I will make the 7-hour drive that day to pick her up at night.
We'll be together soon...

Actually, the letter has already landed in Campinas, north of Sao Paulo and is being sorted at the FedEx facility. That was quick.

She's going to try and get it before it goes on the truck for tomorrow's delivery.
It's not too important to get it tonight if they deliver tomorrow by noon, but if the truck were to deliver late at 6pm, she would not be able to make the LAN flight.

By the way, seats opened up on several flights from Sao Paulo to San Francisco with LAN so there is a chance she will leave tomorrow... that is unless they ask her to pay full fare !

I'll let you know when Angela and the baby are on their way to the US.

Sorry all for posting so many details, but it helps me cope with this situation and I have always had a lot of support from VJ members. Thank you all.

well you sound quite upbeat, so thats good.

glad a kind VJer could offer you some help. three cheers for jhon!

So she called the Consulate and they said she needed an appointment, next appointment is Jan. 17!
And then you give the forms and payment - let's not forget the fee! - and they call you back for an interview.
She's had enough unpleasant interviews with the USCIS, so we passed on that one :)

Actually, on their web site they say that if you forgot your GC in the US then you should have a friend or family express mail it. They don't recommend you go through the process at the Consulate.
For Angela, the issue was not the Green Card, but the letter of extension but it sounds like the process to get that original letter or a Transportation Letter is the same as the GC.
So I express mailed the original this morning FedEx with a big discount (over 50%) with the gracious help of JhonScotland who posted on this thread and incidentally is willing to help anyone from VJ.
The package should arrive Thursday by 6pm, though I still have my doubts about this because the lone FedEx flight from the US (Memphis) to Sao Paulo (Viracopos Campinas airport) arrives at 5pm that day... and that's an hour and 30mn drive to the destination, not counting unloading/loading and Customs... we'll see...

In the mean time, I secured her and the baby a seat - and a bassinet - in the Sao Paulo to Los Angeles non-stop flight with Korean Air on Dec. 31st. $1,500 was the cheapest I could find that was not with a "shady" Central or South American airline. I now include LAN as one of them, by the way ;)
In the mean time she will try on Thursday and Friday to leave with LAN assuming they pay for her trip. For $200, I can cancel her ticket on Korean Air for a full refund. If they don't get her a seat for free on LAN, she'll fly Korean and I'll pick her up in LA. I don't mind the 7-hour drive down there and back after what she went through... We might enjoy New Year's day in Venice or Santa Monica Beach since we missed our holiday planned in Tahoe (where's there's no snow anyway!)

I can't wait to have them both in my arms, I hope I won't smother the baby too much when we meet at the airport. Baby is getting bigger and stronger and is starting to hold his head really well. Thanks to Skype I can see them every day.

Hey Paul-
How did it go? Was your wife able to get in to see someone at the consulate? I hope you are together soon!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWife and baby stuck in Peru. Please help!

Awfully sorry for your holiday inconvenience! It's not a pleasant experience to be sure and could happen more frequently than one would think. However, in the interest of providing sensible information:
...

I am not arguing that we don't share responsibility, actually that's what my most recent post says.
The issue is that the airline had ample time to tell Angela that her document was not valid for travel, including when she left from San Francisco airport. I could have gone back home, get the letter and brought it back to the airport before she was to leave (we arrived over 2 hours before departure, the airport is 30 mn from home). Incidentally, the agent who helped us was a very new employee and constantly had to ask for help from a more senior employee.
They should definitely have told her in Sao Paulo on the 23rd, at which point her ticket would have been unused and changeable. Again, probably a new employee who did not do the job right.

The aggravating part for us is that this happened on the morning of the 24th when all Consular offices and FedEx offices were closed, until tomorrow the 27th. And then after Jan. 1st, it will be close to impossible for her to come back because all flights will be full for a couple weeks. Her last chance is probably a flight from Dec. 31 arriving Jan 1st.

I will FedEx the letter tomorrow morning as soon as the offices reopen and will use whatever service is best. I now realizes that FedEx advertises" deliveries every day, 365 days a year", but the same is not true for "drop-off". There are several days of the year when you can't drop off packages :)

Will keep you posted...

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWife and baby stuck in Peru. Please help!
All,

Since I am the one - with Angela and baby - being affected by this whole ordeal, please let me give my two cents on the story.
First, we all share some form of responsibility for what happened.

1 - We do because we should have brought the original letter, not a copy.
Now, in our defense,:
a) - The Immigration office never said we need to travel with the original letter
b) - The letter itself does not mention anything about carrying the original with you at all times
c) - Reports from several VJ travelers show that the officers do not even ask for the letter. No surprise here since they have access to all the information they want in the computer.
d) - Since this is an immigration matter, I never thought that the airline was responsible for allowing - or not - a traveler in a country. I can understand they have responsibilities vis-a-vis the safety and security of the passengers, but this case is purely an immigration issue. It is the responsibility of the Immigration officers at the port-of-entry to decide if a traveler can or cannot enter the country.
That airlines would be substituting and doing the job of the US Immigration Office is something I can't understand. Why did they (the airlines) accept this burden in the first place?

2 - The airline does share responsibility because they should have never let Angela and the baby leave Sao Paulo in the first place.
That the airline is paying for the trip back to Sao Paulo for Lima is the least they can do.
That the airline should pay for the return of my wife and the baby to San Francisco - or part of it - is also their responsibility - and before some of you start arguing - here's why:
a) - Assuming they had told Angela she did not have proper documentation in Sao Paulo, she would have had in her hands an unused ticket that she could have changed for a new date. There is a "change fee" for rescheduling and I totally understand and we are wiling to pay that $150 change fee. The airline can argue that the new fare is higher and she should pay the difference. This is debatable, but probably not something we can negotiate much. At worst, we would be off the hook for about $700 (the original $850 fare minus the $150 change fee).
b) - When she flew to Lima, she did not use the Lima to San Francisco segment of the ticket. My argument here is that as a second option, the airline should only ask us to pay the new Sao Paulo to Lima segment, again with a change fee being OK. That flight segment with the change fee would cost us about $900.

Aside form the option where we'd pay nothing (but a change fee), we'd prefer option b) because right now prices for the whole trip is about $2,050, so we'd still have to pay the difference ($1,200) plus the change fee ($150)

So to all of you saying we should "pay" for our mistake, well we're willing to pay, but not for LAN mistake too.

And no, we won't sue the airline, it's not worth it. I always have had good results by writing a letter explaining the situation to the CEO and the Manager of the Customer Relations Dept. of the airline. They usually send a coupon for future travel, which they should do if they want us to fly LAN in the future ;)

And the morale of the story that I want to convey to everyone for the future is: ALWAYS CARRY THE ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS WITH YOU (and make a copy before leaving home).

Thank you.

The company I work for has a FedEx business account, we ship a lot of products. Unfortunately, it's the holidays and everything is closed until Monday. It's now too late.

FedEx will open on Tuesday morning, same as the US Consulate in Sao Paulo, which is 6 hours ahead. So Monday 2pm in Brazil, 8am here in CA, I should know if they can provide a solution immediately. Based on that, I will or will not send the letter FedEx. The FedEx people said if I send it Tuesday morning with dropoff at the local FedEx center, it should arrive Thursday, for about $80. I hope he told me the truth, that's pretty quick and close to being a "next-flight option".

The next issue will be to have LAN pay for Angela and the baby's tickets. She has a Credit Card but her credit limit is not very high.

For now, I hope she arrives in Sao Paulo on time (around 1am), and that both Angela and the baby are doing fine. Her uncle will pick her up.

I will keep you posted on what happens at the Consulate on Tuesday.

Thank you, I called the US Consulate emergency number and they told me the Consulate is closed until Tuesday.
I also called FedEx and there is an option to ship a letter "Next Flight" but it requires a business account, which I don't have.
Otherwise there is FedEx Priority International where the item would leave Tuesday and could arrive Thursday. No guarantee though.

Anyone has experience sending letters from the US to Brazil? Which company did you use? which one is more reliable, if any?
I am thinking FedEx, UPS, TNT, USPS...

I hope everything will work out for her on Monday at the Consulate so that you can be with your family to ring in the new year at least

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWife and baby stuck in Peru. Please help!
Thank you for your kind words.
She was not traveling with the original letter because we did not want to lose it and since it is information that the Officers at the port of entry in the US have, we did not think it was necessary to have the original.
Nowhere on the letter does it say that the original has to be carried with the person at all times and for travel. And then her Port of Entry is San Francisco where I could have brought the letter to give the Officer.

Some other people have mentioned that airlines can get huge fines, and it sounded when speaking to the LAN agent that it happened to them before so I guess they have zero tolerance policy now.
The issue here is that she was allowed to fly ifrom Sao Paulo and she should not have. The airline recognized they made a mistake by not checking her documents there. She would have avoided the trouble of the LIma overnight stay, had been able to actually go to the Consulate before they closed and maybe even would be on a flight to the US as we speak.
The airline did pay for hotel, food and transportation, as well as the flight back from Lima to Sao Paulo.

Baby's first Christmas will be one to remember, for all the wrong reasons unfortunately. And we will not be together as planned.

PS: another issue is that we filed for "Removal of Conditions" in late May at the CSC and we're pretty much the only ones from May who have not been approved and received the Green Card already. Some folks who applied in August already received theirs...

My in-laws were not allowed to board a flight from sfo to sao paulo via Mexico because they did not have a Mexican visa in their passport. This was after I personally contacted the airlines to make sure they did not need to have a visa just to fly through Mexico and not even leave the airport. I was told that they would be given a travel visa at the airlines counter in sfo which simply states that they cannot leave the airport but are just transferring to another plane. They had also flown through Mexico on their way to the US without issues. SFO told me that the airline agent had made a mistake in giving me this information and were they allow the family to fly to mexicom they would be deported back to the us at the airline´s cost. It is probably the same for LAN. Hopefully she can get to an American embassy that will allow her to get the stamp in her passport. Can she do that in Peru to save time? I am sorry for your situation. Is there a reason she was not traveling with the original letter? I think like Vanessa suggested, either the original or the passport stamp is needed. I am scared to death of this happening to us as we will be doing ROC soon. Probably we won´t even travel abroad until the new green card is in hand. Good luck! I hope you can work out everything soon.

Since when airlines decide if a passenger can get into the US or not? It's supposed to be the role and responsibility of the Immigration officers.
Anyway, she's flying back to Sao Paulo today and will go to the US Consulate on Monday.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWife and baby stuck in Peru. Please help!
My wife just called me from Lima Airport where the airline (LAN) will not let her board the flight to San Francisco because she's carrying a copy of the letter of extension.
She is connecting in Lima from Sao Paulo, Brazil, her home country.

I tried explaining on the phone to the agent that the officers in SFO will have all the information regarding her case and do not even need the letter, original or copy. I have read some other topics on this forum telling exactly that.
I also told the airline agent that I will be in San Francisco with the original letter.
I said the letter does not say the passenger needs to travel with the original.
I explained she has the baby, that it's Christmas... Nothing would make them bulge.

At this point, it sounds like she needs a travel document from a US embassy. I told her not to stay in Lima, but to go back to Sao Paulo to get it.
The airline agent I had on the phone said the airline made a mistake and should have checked her documents in Sao Paulo and not let her board the flight there.
He said he hoped his supervisors would let her go back to Sao Paulo on the next flight for free, where she probably will end up in 24 hours.

At this point, I need help from anyone on this forum who either had this problem and/or requested a travel document at the US embassy. What is needed, how does this work.
Anything to help me (her) through his will be much appreciated.
Needless to say, it Christmas tomorrow and all embassies will be closed, so she's not going to be in San Francisco for several days.
I am extremely disappointed and upset at the airline, which she used on the way to Brazil two weeks ago! They had many occasions to tell her she needed another travel document.

If you ever wondered who was the grinch who killed Christmas, it's LAN! Posted Image

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionMay 2011 Filers

i always asked for lvl2 supervisor but its still d same.

We filed at CSC and I called USCIS more than 7 months after NOA - we were next to last in the May filers - and when I asked to speak to a supervisor, they told me that our file showed it would take another 25 days to process and that they could not submit the request.
Of course,a few days later, we got approved!
It feels like if you don't call the application sits there, and when you do, they push a button and it moves. Why on earth would they do that is still a mystery to me. But then it's the same branch of government who has a Green Card lottery every year... :)
