Do you know if they are applying this to everyone who ever had a felony conviction? Or just those that are abuse or drug related? On the application I did not marked when it asked if I was ever in trouble, because those conditions do not apply to me.

I got one count in my case from the feds back in 1994 for some white collar mischief. Hope this is not going to put my case into a indefinite black hole! What I did back then hopefully does not screw up my chance for marrying my fiancee.

Since my I129F NOA1 was Oct 2009, it would make sense for me to be in the same position as the other unlucky folks .. Let's get some more facts to get rid of this cloud of uncertainty and doubt.

the nvc will give the date of of approval so i used a range guesstimate based on that to determine a date DHL would get it. the dhl employee i spoke with was really nice and told me the few days surrounding mine as well that petitions were forwarded to the consulate.

(you will need the nvc addy and the embassy addy as well) i have already forgotten them! ^_^

our petition sat at the embassy for a couple of weeks before they sent a letter the beneficiary. same thing with the interview letter i found it on the website probably 2.5 weeks before the letter arrived.

i called the nvc and got the timeline from them and then called DHL based on that info to find out "approximately when it was delivered"

I would be interested in hearing more details from any recent experiences at the interviews.

What questions did they ask?
What were they "really" trying to find out?
Should I go with my fiance to the interview?
Anything we should or should not say?

Thanks to everyone who posts on here. Wish I would've found this months ago!

she was friendly to me (USC) but not at all nice to my bf. she was very very interested in why he didn't mention me in his previous requests for b/1 b/2 visas. it was all very awkward then she abruptly said pick up your visa at 3pm on Tuesday. the interview was less than 10 minutes long but she definitely is awkward.

Kang Lang,

No, it is not. The thabiian baan, or house registration, is a paper or booklet that associates a person with a specific address and household. Whether or not the person actually lives there. A child will be put on the house registration of their parents, and may still be registered to their parent's household years later after becoming an adult and having moved to Bangkok or elsewhere for work. (In an atypical reversal of that, my wife and her son are registered at a shophouse that she owns, even though she had moved back to live with her parent's and was renting out her shophouse.)

A Thai must vote in the amphur where they are on a thabiian baan, so in that sense it serves as voter registration. I don't know what else it might be used for. Certainly not for keeping track of where the citizenry lives, since as I said many Thais don't live where they are registered.

Yodrak

i have another dumb question, what exactly is a "house registration card" is that the same thing as the thai id card?

Thanks Yodrak for clearing that up!

Hey all!

I received the Packet 3 in the mail yesterday (by the way I got lucky with sending in early as my package sent to the embassy was received the same day my packet 3 was posted from the embassy, pretty cool).

I have a question that has been touched on here but I am a little more confused after reading the instructions and checklist sent by the embassy. Members have stated that the "verification of unmarried status" is usually only for those that have been married before, but the exact wording on the checklist states, "Verification of Unmarried Status for K-1s and spouse visas if you did not register a previous marriage." From this wording, I am reading that they want this verification from fiances and spouses that have never been married before. Is this just bad wording by the embassy or does my fiance (never been married) need this verification now?

i just got the checklist recently too, but my checklist simply says:
"if you were previously married, you must submit a certified copy of your marriage certificate and proof of termination of your previous marriage (e.g. death certificate of spouse, final decree of divorce or annulment).

i took that to mean that since my boyfriend has never been married (not even thai-style) that we do not need a certificate of being single? does your say something different aitan?

Wow you are getting sooooo close now. I am very happy for you. I will be leaving to Thailand on Sunday and will be sending my package to CSC on Wednesday. My journey will be starting. Hope things go quickly for you now.

gosh thanks!! i am getting giddier and more impatient it's weird when i was just waiting for uscis to process i wasn't this crazy but the closer we get the more impatient i become! i hope we have an interview in the next 2 months! i hear that you don't get a notice about interview for about 6 weeks but who knows maybe i'll get lucky we didnt' do too badly w/ the packet 3 it was only 3 weeks.

good luck with your journey and enjoy your visit to thailand!!!!

does anyone know what packet 4 docs are? i couldn't find anything on the embassy website? (any help is appreciated)

Kang Lang,

Rin never did receive a packet 4. Here is the e-mail string of my correspondences with them requesting the packet 4 be re-sent and their response. I would start contacting them next week. I used info from Tucsonbill's packet 4 posts in this thread to put the information in the correct order. Didn't seem that important as the lady at the window sorted through all of it anyway.

Hope this helps!

John,

Thank you sooooo much, the good news is that he got each of those forms in the packet 3 mailing and has already completed his medical exam! so looks like we are all set to just hurry up and wait for notice of interview. Maybe BKK is eliminating packet 4 and consolidating. Here is hoping we get our interview maybe around his birthday and we can spend it together. I have not seen him since Dec. 2005.

Kang Lang,

Wow! A year and a half! I was able to go to Thailand five times last year (mostly work related) and it was still difficult waiting. Hope your interview comes soon.

Here is the link to Bill's post on packet 4. It does list the documents required and the order (and it at least gave me peace of mind that I had everything I needed)! Best of luck!

John

That's great that you were able to go so many times last year. We just keep telling ourselves that it will be worth the wait! I could not get the link to work for some reason but at least I know that I should start contacting the embassy in about a weeks time to see if they have sent packet 4.

Thanks so much for the encouragement!

Kang Lang,

I don't keep much money in my savings account either - only enough to be sure that I won't bounce an occasional check. So I always showed $0 savings on my affidavits of support to avoid having to document an insignificant item.

Yodrak

.....

i do not have a lot of money in my savings account about $500 is that a big deal? i have no problem meeting the income requirements at all according to the standards outlined (they seem to think i could support a family of 10+ on my income hahaha..UH NO!) and i do have a decent amount in my 401k would i need to bring that to substantiate my i-134 doc?

.....

thanks yodrak! i think i won't mention mine either since it's an insignificant amount. as for the taxes i have heard one year also but my attorney keeps insisting it must be 3, probably no big deal since i have '05 and '06 available and we will be more than 1/2 way into '07 before we get our interview date.

you guys are awesome!

josh,

we are pretty close in timeline, i started prepping packet 3 in hopes to finish before my fiance received it too, it took about 3 weeks from transfer from nvc to my bf receiving packet 3. so you jumping ahead is very unlikely to make much of a difference may want to wait say 7business days from transfer point and then you won't even worry about having to run extra copies :D. GOOD LUCK! Who knows we could be in the embassy at the very same time!

So anyways I have a question about the i-134 probably asked here other times but will ask again (sorry)

Thanks a bunch! I thought it might be alright but thought I better check first since we all want to have more information available then not enough.
I just sent a letter to the IRS to try and track down my 2004 tax return I cannot for the life of me find it, I am afraid I won't get it in time to take with me since the IRS takes forever to process things I wonder if I could just get copies of my w-2 and use that with a letter of explanation? any thoughts?

Thanks again.

Kang Lang,

Appointments with the immigrant visa unit are not made on-line. The IVU will schedule the interview when the visa applicant has submitted DS-230-I and the signed statement of readiness for an interview. I believe that there are 2 other items now required also that didn't used ot be - maybe a photocopy of the passport ID page and the visa photographs?

Yodrak

i have another probably dumb question. so my lawyer seems unclear about packet 3, the instructional sheet says do not send anything to the embassy, but in another place we red that you send back the ds230 part 1 but unsigned. we are almost done compiling all of packet 3 and he has his appointment to get his medical on the 17th. he'll pick up his police certificate on the 13th. should we wait until after we have it all done and then go online to make our appointment?

(wish i had not hired a lawyer)

Glad you are getting close to the big day. I am very happy for you. I am planning to send my package on the 24 of this month to the CSC. How long has your wait been so far?

Thanks a bunch, I have been barely able to contain myself all day! It's been 4 months and 1 week since we filed, but I haven't seen him since December 2005. Lin,

You can try e-mailing the visa section - find and follow the present protocol for e-mail inquiries. In my wife's case it was about 4 weeks between the date that my approved I-129f petition left the NVC and the date that the IVU recognized that they'd received it.

In those days one could go to the consulate and pick up a K-visa application package, but not now as I understand it. However, most of what's in it is now posted on the embassy's web site.

Yodrak

wonder if anyone who is ahead of me in the process can offer some guidance, our petition left nvc on 20 april, my question is does anyone have any idea about the following...A) are you able to contact anyone at the embassy regarding packet 3, when it will be sent out etc.? also is it possible to go to the embassy and pick up packet 3 if you have your BNK number? it is very frustrating that it's just a black hole. any tips or help would be appreciated.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!

Lin

Thanks Yodrak, unfortunately when you email now you only get an automated response indicating that they do not answer queries about k-1's at all and when i called i could only get a recording no way to get an actual person on the line. *ugh* just thought i would take a stab at it and see if anyone had any current info but my guess we'll be in the 4-6 week range for our packet 3 to arrive. Has anyone else had a long wait for packet 3? I know that most of the timelines i have read are some where in the 7-14 day range. (BTW Yodrak, hats off to you for surviving the agony that is the wait for a visa through Thailand.

question does anyone know if there is a way to verify that the foreign embassy has received your info and is sending out packet 3? the bangkok embassy website specifically says we cannot answer q's related to that and i am (like everyone else) DYING to find out.

Thanks a bunch!

Kang Lang,

You can email the embassy to find out if they have recieved the package. I did this after we sent our package in and they were very nice about it. What I asked was if they recieved the package from the NVC and if they did then you can expect package 3 to be mailed within a week. Also, if you go to the embassy site you can find out what you need to gather for package 3.

Thanks very much KHagen!

So I have another predicament, I know this is really really stupid but I'm sure you guys have some advice as to what to do any help is appreciated.

i do in fact have a lawyer here in the u.s. working on the petition and they drafted all the letters, how we met, intent to marry etc. and we just signed them. i made the egregious error of not carefully checking the content as i was frustrated by the length of time it takes to get stuff in the post from thailand so long story short the error is my lawyer included an "extra visit" to Thailand that never happened. obviously my passport does not reflect it and i have no evidence to support it. at any rate has this happened to anyone and what did you do about it? our petition is already at the embassy so i am freaked out we'll get denied based on this STUPID STUPID error on my part. :help: :help: :help:

Thanks for the clarification on the notification, Yodrak. Apparently you understood my post as a statement instead of the question it was meant to be. As always, thanks for the answer.

Kang Lang...wow, 17 months apart? That's just wrong! But you will never have to wonder if your love is real or not...that's for sure!

As for Brian Wright...yes, he will work with you (ala carte;). Tell him you are in a similar position as "n2ojones" and ask how much he would charge to fine-tooth the details. I too started out with someone else... but then fortunately found Brian.

Congrats again and I wish you well.

Hey Kang Lang, congratulations!

You and I are only a few days apart, so your news, (I hope) is good news for us both. We are also in a similar position. Well, actually my wife speaks and reads English quite well, but this far along why take any chances?????

So I am using Brian Wright of mythaifiancee.com I have had many e-mails with him and have also spoke with him on the phone a couple times. Smart, considerate and ONLY does US visas. You don't want to find out how important that is. I found out the hard way.

So.....do you think early July is realistic????? I was thinking August...but I like your thinking better.;)

thanks for the tip!!! i sent an email, however when i looked at the site i notice they are selling packages etc. sadly i didn't have the faith i could do this on my own so i hired an immigration lawyer to the tune of 3k (but at least it includes all the AOS step no additional fee) i just can't afford to pay another $1k to someone, plus all the extraneous fees, flying there, bringing him back, our wedding too! oh well i will see what they say. let's hope they have sort of an ala carte type doc menu since my bf won't need any guidance/escort just document prep. :star:

Kang Lang,

I-129f petitions are not entered into the NVC's automated information system - they don't spend enough time at the NVC, and the NVC doesn't do anything with them except forward them on, so it's not worth the effort to put them into the system.

Yodrak

FINALLY!!!!! Decided today after the automated system told me no record existed of my case at the NVC to speak to a live person (who was incredibly nice btw) that my petition reached them on 18 April and was sent to BKK on 20 April. Fingers crossed now that we can be reunited on his B'day in early July!

They don't give any sort of notification, Yodrak? It don't sound like Kang Lang got anything. It seems e-mail would be more efficient than having us all call for a status check...right?

ringing them directly was easy peasy, i was only on hold for about 2 minutes the lady was easily able to verify my identity by name, d.o.b. and my fiance's name. it was painless. i highly recommend just ringing them!

well i am trying to be optimistic as i have not seen him since december 2005. my understanding is that it's 8 weeks +/- from consulate receipt to interview so that theoretically is pretty darn close. fortunately there are not a bunch of hols coming up so as long as they are humming right along post songkran festivities i will just keep my fingers crossed (for both of us!)

well i am trying to be optimistic as i have not seen him since december 2005. my understanding is that it's 8 weeks +/- from consulate receipt to interview so that theoretically is pretty darn close. fortunately there are not a bunch of hols coming up so as long as they are humming right along post songkran festivities i will just keep my fingers crossed (for both of us!)

can anyone recommend someone/agency to help my fiance prepare his packet 3 docs? he does not read english and will need help. i had someone prepare his original docs g-325a etc. but she takes too long to respond and i want to compile this all now so that by the time we receive packet 3 instructions he can just drop it in the mail.

thanks a bunch!

Toldya so! :)

Congratulations!!!

Thanks I am sooooo excited

thanks yodrak, that was the point of my question that i didn't understand. i was getting conflicting information. i guess you are indicating it's irrelevant although i was relatively sure i needed to have tax return information.

i have another (probably stupid) question. on the tax return info (i-864 doc) i originally thought that they required 3 years tax returns but have been told that it's only "1 or 2" does anyone have a definitive answer on that? i cannot find my 2004 tax return and am worried that i will have to try and deal with the irs to get a copy of what i filed? if i cannot get it all in time does that automatically exclude us from approval? my 2005/2006 are available and my current employment are no issue in terms of income etc. just wondering if we'll get dinged for no '04 return.

thank you george/matt, that was helpful!!! it is very stressful. the i-797 indicated that i will here from them w/in 30 days, is that from the notice of approval? separately does it matter if he was denied a tourist visa before? (he has had visas to the the u.s. before but his last was denied, any bearing on the k-1?)

thanks again for being so helpful.
