K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduressupplemental sheets not signed
About the photos: they do not need to be signed. With the names and the date in the back is enough.
About the letters: if you did not even sign the letters of "intention to get married", you have many possibilities that they are going to ask you to resend them with the new date and signed (in blue ink). This is going to delay the process a bit. Although all depends of the person's "discretion" who is looking at your petition.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresRFE RESPONSE
They asked you to send evidence that you have seen your fiancée in person in the last 2 years. So after your trip you are fine with that. Now unfortunately you have to wait the 60 days they told you. If you do not get any response by then you can call them. If you called before probably they are going to ask you to call back once the 60 days past.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureshow did this possible?
No way. Probably her fiancé filled the papers for her and hold a photo from her. He did not ask for anything else because he had it before hand.

audy rob, is that a new requirement on employment letters in bangkok? when my husband went through there (nearly 3 years ago) it was not required. i would think for a good number of thai's that it would be difficult since there are so many cash type jobs in thailand.

Nothing to worry about at this point... and all signs point to a crackdown today. Armored personnel carriers have surrounded the protest area.

Any chance you can fit an extra laptop and cellphone in your carry-on? I'd be happy to pay you $100 (or THB equivalent) at BKK. Still trying to find a way to get it shipped, but its been a nightmare.

So the fare that appears after you select your airports is the bottom line everything included coach fare?

yep this was all tax included.

@t&j i am a slave to the united mileage program too, what is the mileage % on ana? i know that for asiana (my new favourite) it was 70% on the economy fare. it was totally worth it to lose the mileage to be treated so well and the food was tasty on board (well the korean food was good my mom said the western food was awful).

i got the fare through asaptickets.com taxes included. i have used them before 3 or 4 times. the customer service is mediocre but the tix are cheap so there you have it. you go to the website plug in your dates of travel and then you are given a discount code, you must call and speak to a live person as there is no option to purchase online. this is where they try to hoodwink you into buying a business class fare etc. but be patient you will be able to secure the quoted rate.

best of luck!

I've flown it many times on domestic flights within China, but never internationally. I didn't notice anything exceptionally horrible other than the food and fake Budweiser beers they hand out which are warm and undrinkable.

the food was abysmal but what put me off of them entirely was on the two inter china flights i flew with them my last trip, one landed so poorly that the nose actually slammed to the ground and the other landed so hard that it bounced several times and 2 people got mildly injured.

China Eastern has a $1104 fare from LAX in June. That's the cheapest published fare I could find in June from the USA - Thailand at the moment. Other than that, you might try a consolidator.

ahh the scary china eastern! yeah i've been thoroughly unsuccessful locating a better fare as well. i'm going to poke around the conslidators as well. flying from sfo so maybe i will have some luck there. i should have bought the $600 air china flight i saw 3 weeks ago. that is the only drawback to traveling with friends that you sometimes don't get your ducks in a row at the same time.

thank you very much for looking.

It won't necessarily cost more on the airline site... sometimes it costs less.

$1100! Wow, what a ripoff! Might as well buy the round trip and use the second half when you go back again. I just booked my flights for the summer and that's almost as much as Singapore Airlines is charging, which is an obscenity. Singapore is a fantastic airline. Well... hopefully you are getting a Cathay code share flight. Does it stop in Hong Kong?

can i ask where you booked your flights? and what months? i am looking for flights in june and can't really find anything below $1400

i didn't think it was an ordinary request however audy rob indicated to me that it's required. so i was wondering if anyone had to provide it for their female s.o.'s, he thought that maybe it was more for women. in the forms my husband definitely had to indicate where he worked but no employment letters for the k-1. he did have to get a letter from his employer for his tourist visa though.

question for the more recent visa recipients...were you required to submit employment letters? (i am only asking about the thai national) i read in another thread that it is asked? when my husband was interviewed they did not ask for it i would wonder if it would even be possible due to the number of cash type business that exist in thailand.

in my husband's case it would have been easy given the type of work, but i would think some of your s.o.'s might be able to provide that info in a formal letter?

Question about the "Single" Cert

Hi All,

I got my NOA2 on Oct 23 and so my fiancée and I are getting a jump on things by preparing everything for packet 3.

We are a little confused about whether it's necessary to furnish a "Verification of Unmarried Status", though, since she will be sending in a divorce certificate.

After digging around on this excellent site, I've discovered that the packet 3 info/checklist dated 09/08 asks for the "Verification of Unmarried Status", but the newer (newest?) checklist dated May-09 does not seem to ask for this. Additionally, my sweet Chanisa is telling me that folks over on usvisa4thai are saying that the single cert IS required.

Now, the simplest thing for us to do would be to simply have my fiancée get the single cert just in case, however that is turning out to not be so simple -- though she's 28 years old, she's been told to bring in her 70+ year-old parents before they'll give her that document. Arrrrrggggghhhhhh!!!

Anyway, I hope someone can shed some light on this requirement.

BTW, though this is my first post, I've read every page of this thread and feel like I've gotten to really know some of you. Hyena and Daboyz, your posts make me lol often. Keep up the good work!!

Erich

i don't have any new information since my husband has been in the u.s. for over 2 years but it was definitely a requirement he did indeed go to his local amphur to get it. just to be safe i highly recommend you get it. many of the things you'll encounter in this process seem ridiculous but at the end of the day if it gets our loved ones to our sides then it's all worth it in then end. remain patient and best of luck to you!

i can only speak for myself and i'm sure it matters not one bit but i wasn't angered at all by what you said. i didn't agree, but it didn't make me angry. everyone is entitled to their opinion of course, it's one of the very shaky legs this country was founded on! (not trying to spark political debate....just some levity folks happy.gif )

it's just the internet folks, sometimes we forget that i suppose, we don't "know" each other and hopefully don't spend our spare time consumed with how to evoke change in other peoples "faulty" viewpoints.

anywho i thought i was just commenting and disagreeing respectfull, if it offended you that would be a shame as it wasn't intended to insult.

reading through the last few pages and I felt pretty lucky to be interviewed for K-1 in 2005!

First of all, My husband - then fiance was there with me in the room - Then, only 1-2 questions for me I think.. and the rest he just kinda chat with Bram and that was it... pretty easy blush.gif

Good luck to all!

By the way - I was raised to believe that education is everything (my parents are professors - but they are the most humble people you'll ever met) But I married a guy with just a High School diploma.. never in a million years growing up I would've thought possible. But he's very smart, honest, and very good at what he does that he's successful in his chosen career still in his 20s. My parent was skeptical at first when they first learn that he didnt have a degree (that's the second question they asked when I introduced him to them) but they trust my judgment.

So my point is that I believe - now - that a degree isnt a guarantee to be successful in life/career. But I still believe that for most, education is going to help them have a better chance in life but for some, it's irrelevance.

i agree it was nice to be able to stand with my husband when he had his interview it made us both less nervous. we had probably 10 questions or so including two each about his past approved and past denied b-2 visas.

as for the education piece my husband has only a high school diploma but for his career a degree would not add one bit of value nor does anyone in thailand in his profession have a degree. with that said he'll be entering community college in the spring. he's so nervous but excited since he would be only the 3rd person in his family to get any post high school education. he paid for 2 of his younger sisters to go to college.

just like alot of you i'm sure...i value education but can point out people who have multiple degrees and are dumber than a bag of hammers conversely i know folk without a degree that are smart as all get out. a degree does not equate with intelligence or success in my book. a couple of pretty successful and (from the very far distance i sit) well adjusted dropouts include tiger woods, bill gates, steve jobs, and less than well adjusted larry ellison.

Long time no talk!
I haven't been on visa journey, specifically the sawasdee thread, for a LONG, LONG time. Weird, considering I'd go on here billions of times throughout the day posting on the sawasdee thread.

Kang Lang, how is your guys A.O.S. going? I remember you were updating me on your situation but that was awhile back when I last heard how everything was going for you guys.
Hope all is well.

Devkpaik!

Good to see you back here...we were called up for interview which I expected given our late filing. Was no problem at all execpt for one weird thing I found out after our interview. About a month after I ran into a former colleague at the gas station and he ended up telling me the interviewer was his wife and she had told him about it. Not problematic since we are legitimate and I'm confident we would have been approved anyway but just weird from an ethical standpoint. Wonder if she should have even done the interview?

How is married life? Have you done your AOS yet? I do hope all is well, don't be a stranger.

I was just finishing my first cup of coffee at 7:30 when my fiance called me, the interviews for today were cancelled because the interviewer was sick. She is rescheduled for tomorrow at 1pm. Question for experts on this thread:

I just went to buy tickets for myself and my wife and stepdaughter to go to Thailand for Songkran 2010. My wife just got a new credit card with 0% interest we used to purchase the tickets. Problem is, we purchased my wifes ticket in her married name and it is her maiden name showing on her passport - so the name on the tickkets and on the passport does not match. It seems to me that I read and or was told that as long as you have a certified copy of your marriage certificate attached to the passport we'll be OK - can anyone advise me about this based on "actual experience" rather than conjecture?

Thanks!

Alternatively you can get her a new passport in advance of your trip. The nearest place for you is Los Angeles, depending on when she last had her passport renewed you may be able to do it by mail but they are moving to a new type of passport that requires in person application for biometrics.

good luck!

hi all,

i need some help please. my husband's best friend has a predicament. he had a child with a girl in thailand, prior to meeting his wife and getting married. i will try to just use bullets so you can see it all quickly rather than a long drawn out story.

the knowns:
child is his, through dna testing
wants to bring child here
child not mentioned at all on any immigration documents

the unknowns:
whether or not the father is on the birth certificate (hope to know that today)
if it is possible to petition for the child (now six)

any insight is greatly appreciated apparently the mother has married an moved to singapore and left the child behind with an ailing grandparent so he would like to move rather quickly.

thank you!

One thing I'd like to point out is that for those of you planning on getting your spouse naturalized, they will need to be able to read and speak English, as well as pass the naturalization quiz, which consists of 10 questions out of a possible 100 choices, and must get 6 of those correct.

They not only need to be able to read and write to pass the written drivers exam, but they have to be able to understand the evaluator during the driving exam, which consists of many driving maneuvers. I think many of us have forgotten how difficult an actual driving exam can be, in addition to passing the written test.

Bottom line: there are no shortcuts. no0pb.gif

you said a mouthful sir! my husband speaks english pretty well and reads at a basic level (hence the 5 days a week 3 hours a day of intensive ESL classes) but the plan is to send him to a citizenship class which is offered at most junior colleges for non-credit (read free) in major cities. just a tip for anyone whose s.o. might need some help prepping for that.

good luck all.

The officer said he requested the file and it should take a week, and then we should get a letter in two weeks with the approval. Apparently his last thai case a few months ago, he had the same problem, they never sent the paperwork from Bangkok.
