my husband connected through tokyo and didn't need a transit visa(should only be needed if you are planning to exit the airport is what we were told). a tip though to eliminate the need of a transit visa in an emergency such as flight delay or cancellation narita has "sleeping and shower" rooms in the terminal.

GOOD LUCK!

AAm and I had our AOS interview today...and it was successful. I think our timeline from initial K1 petition -> AOS approval was about 18 months. Just thought I'd post our good news and wish continued good luck to EVERYONE going through Thailand! Looks like interviews are coming up for a lot a people!

Peace to all,

You welcome Afterforever...I am sort of in the same situation. Our interview probably some time toward the end of January. It doesn't look like I will be able to have enough days to get away from work to be with her during the interview. But she does understand the situation. I am coaching her right now for interview. I am trying to alleviate the fear from her.

it took about 2 weeks for my husband to get packet 3...a piece of advice if i may. now that you know it's in the post, just go ahead and download everything and and send in notice that you are prepared for your interview it will save a few weeks time. by the time they recieve everything you can have your medical, certificate of being single etc all ready.

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for the info Kang Lang.

If we send in the notice that we are prepared for the interview, will my fiance still have enough time to apply for and receive the police certificate? I know the medical can be done quickly but I am worried my fiancee will not receive the police certificate in time. Also, do you know if she would be able to have her sister pick up the certificate? The sister lives in BKK, my fiance lives in Udon Thani, so it would obviously be a time saver.

Yes as long as you get your application for police certification in right around the time you send in packet 3 (do it in the same week which will give you some time in case there is a problem) takes around 2-3 weeks for the police cert., once you send in packet 3 your interview is still a good 4-6 weeks away. Unfortunately only your fiancee will be able to pick up the certificate, so she should make the trip to BKK and get her medical done and police cert., app on the same day. She will definitely have to go back and pick it up.

P.S. You may want to google search the forms you need, alot of law firms have them attached to their websites can be a good alternative to waiting for USCIS to upload them. FYI the packet 3 forms were not terrible hard or complicated to deal with.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU GUYS.

Hello everyone,
My fiance and I had a successful interview today! Yay! Just a heads up, there's a new interviewer named Jan. I'd guess she's around 30. The Japanese-American interviewer I've read about was standing over her shoulder and teaching her how to do everything. I honestly think she was more nervous than we were, but she was very friendly. I'll add more details into the Embassy Info page. http://www.visajourn...p?cnty=Thailand

If it clears anyone's worries, I made below the poverty line for income last year because I was in Thailand and I am currently, technically unemployed. I don't have much in the bank either, but they said they didn't have a problem with my I-134. All I had for supporting documents was a letter from my bank, 2 notarized letters from family members saying they'd help financially, a letter from a friend saying he'd give me a job, my tax return, and a W2 from my last job. Hope this helps. PM me if you need any help with anything.

OK, been prepping the packet 3 to take to Thailand with me on Friday and it is driving me nuts!! Only the income ####### is a concern for me at them moment.

I would like some input from others who have passed through BKK Embassy for I-29F/K-1, please.

I will have a co-sponsor even though I really don't need one, I just want to be damn sure!! My income from last year was minimal, cough, cough............worked in the Philippines so all income was on the down low. whistling.gif

From what I have read, over and over I might add, is the following in regards to income for myself and co-sponsor (Mom).

* Notarized I-134 from each of us.

* Most recent tax return (2006) (Does this need to be notarized?)

* Notarized Letter from employer stating type of employment (Temp or Perm), salary, and length of employment for myself and co-sponsor.

* Pay stubs for myself and co-sponsor, how many? (We get our stubs online via ADP, do these need to be notarized?)

* Does the co-sponsor and I have to provide a letter's from our respective banks?

* I receive a retirement from the Marine Corps as well as a disability from the VA, do the statements to show monies received have to be notarized?

This is all a PITA, I can't wait until it is all through.

I appreciate any/all comments/recommendations.

Tax return does not need to be notarised.
In your employment letter indicate whether your position is full or part time and contact information for the signator. As a precaution I did have my HR person get the employment letter notarised. The CO commented on that being a good thing, fyi.
I brought 6 months worth of stubs which they kept. (not notarised)
I didn't bring any banking information given that income was not a problem.
I also didn't bring any retirement (401k) information since income was not a problem.

Good luck, hope that helps!

feyser,

you should be pretty concerned about the i-134. they do examine it, fairly closesly. they took my i-134 form, my employment letter, tax return and 6 months worth of pay stubs. they in fact kept my pay stubs for their records. if you don't exceed the 125% over poverty line i would definitely get a sponsor lined up on your behalf. they didn't ask us any q's about the i-134 but i was significantly over the requirement. again if you are borderline you defo should consider a co-sponsor. credit is irrelevant to them btw.

Good luck to you!

Ok, so for some reason I thought the 125% level was higher than it is. I just looked at the poverty guidelines and my return for 2006 shows a few thousand above it, so now I'm not going to worry:) How anyone, especially in California, can live on 12k per year is beyond me.

Anyway, I'll for sure let everyone know how it goes, and this is at least one less thing I am going to worry about now.

o that's good news then. one less headache. i don't have any idea how one lives in california if they can i am certainly amazed.

best of luck to you!!!

qbertz,

i brought all of my 2007 paystubs (and they kept them!) so i would bring them all just in case.
NOTARISED employer letter
i-134 notarised as well
they only looked at my 2006 tax return (returned the others untouched)
i would definitely bring the bank statements and a notarised letter from the bank since you have not met the income requirements consistently
actually just to be safe since it is a discretionary process, you might want to have a co-sponsor

GOOD LUCK

The embassy called my fiance to confirm her address of where to send the interview appointment letter, but I don't think they had generated an actual date yet cause she asked and the lady didn't know it.

But at least I know they got our pkt 3 and a date is on the way!

qbertz, be sure to check the website around the 2 week mark of when the embassy received your check list. that was when it was posted for us but the letter arrived only 2 weeks before the date. if i had waited for the letter i would not have been able to go with him to the interview.

we should start a pool to see when your date is. i vote week of 10 September. anyway...good luck!

Hey everyone, I have 2 questions.

1. I'm curious how you filled out the immunizations part on DS3025. How on earth is someone from Isan supposed to find non-existent medical records of shots?

2. How long did it take to get your police certificate?

Thank you!

police cert took about 30 days

no idea how someone from isaan gets records however you mention they are non-existent so perhaps just trek into the appropriate hospital and get the age appropriate ones taken care of do be prepared for your s.o. to get sick. my bf was sick for a few days after his shots (he only needed 2)

hope that helps and good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPanic panic...I have a feeling we're missing something out
Thanks for all your feedback folks. Now I'm really starting to freak!!
I have read soooo much information on K1 visas and to be honest it was like going round in circles so that's why I wanted to speak to real people and get their opinions and honest answers.
I have just spoken with my fiance in San Francisco and he says that he sent off the I-129F and received confirmation and therefore feels like there shouldn't be any further problems and it's also been over 3 months now so if there was a problem, wouldn't they have noticed by now??
He sent with it - $455, his birth certificate, a copy of his passport, social security number and all my contact details and story of how we met. He hasn't heard anything about any requests for secondary evidence (I forget the proper terminology!) We are obviously still in the very early stages but it has been over 3 months now and I am getting nervous. I'm also getting sick of people asking me when I'm going and boy does it suck not knowing. I just checked our online status and all it says is - case received and pending.
Any other helpful knowledge would be greatly appreciated. Maybe we are doing the right thing but I'm just getting scared that I'll still be in the UK come Christmas. Not what I had planned.

thank you for your time and help. jojo and naphtali XXX

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPanic panic...I have a feeling we're missing something out
Hey all,
I'm totally brand new on this forum and the more posts I read, the more I feel that we're not doing this thing right.
My fiance lives in the US and I'm in the UK. He sent off I-129F on May 16th and received confirmation. But that's all he did. He never put in any proof like photos, phone bills and never filled out that G form thingy I read someone go on about. I am now waiting to hear from the US Embassy in London (which I don't expect before end of August). I've heard folk say that I can phone and ask them to send me forms to fill it out before I get my visa package. It's all rather confusing I know but I get a horrible feeling that we're missing out loads of stuff. Is there anything I should do in preparation before I hear from them? I have a record of all my innoculations but that's it. All these forms that we can download before hand and what not are freaking me out. I don't want to be surrounded with more paper than I have to. Can someone please put my weary mind at ease and calm me down!!!
thank you folks. XXXX

My girlfriend and I have only met five months ago, yet things developed quickly between us. We are both so in love with each other and we both take our relationship very seriously. This month I filed the petition. We badly want to be together and start building for our future. I'm just worried that CSC or the embassy may think that our relationship is bogus since things happened quite so fast. Do I have the reason to worry?

Like I said our relationship is legit and we are both very much in-love.

if you don't have any red flags in your case, just a straight forward application then by all means do it yourself, you just need to be detail oriented. i used an attorney stateside which was a waste of valuable time and money for our straight forward case. i did use a document prep service in bkk but just for the translation of the birth cert/ house book and thai id. paid about $30 USD but that was in 2007.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPreparation for an Interview at US Embassy --Thailand

Hello,

As a husband petitioner filing for CR-1 for my wife. I just received a letter from NVC yesterday (Oct 6, 2010) stating that.

"All documentation necessary to complete the National Visa Center's processing has been received. As soon as an interview date has been scheduled, the designated representative of this case (applicant, petitioner, or attorney) will be notified. The US Embassy or Consulate General may require additional documentation at the time of the interview."

What is the next step? Will the US Embassy mail a package letter to my wife in Thailand and she needs to get ready for her medical exam? When can she expect to be interviewed at the US embassy? What kind of questions the embassy staff will be asking her?

I am eager to have my wife and a US citizen daughter join me here by Thanksgiving. Is this reasonable expectation?

Thank you all for the info you may have and share.

Tom

tom,

please view the sawasdee 4 thread it is thailand specific with some of the members having very recently just gone through bkk. with that said i doubt very seriously your family will be here by thanksgiving but before christmas would seem more accurate. i was a k-1 filer for my husband so have little info on cr-1 but do come to the sawasdee thread for bkk more info.

we did it when my husband was just my fiance, we did it before he went back to thailand (long before we petitioned) and it was no problem the usc can basically authorise anyone they would like as a user and get them a card in their name however the usc is the only responsible party for the debt. also capital one and they will only mail the card to the primary card holder.

good luck!

I checked the California Service center site, and i it states that i send the i129 form to vermont, but the form instructions state an address in cali....

check it here:

what do you guys think?

you don't mention what type of petition you are filing but if you read closely, the i-129f goes to laguna niguel it's i-129 that goes to vermont. my understanding is that you are meant to apply at your "nearest" center. (i bet loads more people would apply in vermont given that they are faster!!)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresStarting a K1 advisory business

Aloha kakou,

With Joan and I 99.9% thru with our (pretty much problem free) K1 process, I am seriously considering the possibility of Joan and I starting a K1 advisory business. Note the word "advisory". The appearance of practicing law concerns me, but I am sure there are protections we can take.

With Maui's proximity to the Philippines, the abundance of Filipinos already here, Joan being filipina and $1800 legal fees - I see a possible market.

Has anyone else contemplated this???

Mahalo,
Bill and Joan

a suggestion is to shift away from being an advisory service as it implies legal knowledge but there is definitely money to be made as a document preparer. plenty of agencies exist in other countries where non-attorney types provide notarised translations etc. think of how many people (me included who are just too scared to fill out the forms even though they are really simple if you just take your time and read them)

good luck! :)
