K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHiring an immigration lawyer or filing yourself?
We hired and then fired a lawyer because they screwed up. I am now adamant that I know more about immigration family processes through this website than the 4 different lawyers we've consulted with over the last year.

You probably also have the W2 thinger for 2012 already? That'll do.  London is pretty good about taking other evidence, so have the W2 for the latest year and also take some pay stubs and ideally an employment letter or contract so that London can see what the earnings were for the last year.

There was just a pretty similar thread on this with advice that I'm sort of parroting: http://www.visajourn...-it-need-to-be/

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMedical appointment was just canceled!

I can't imagine you're the only people in this boat - the doctor being out must mean there's a bunch of people suddenly unable to complete their medical before their interview. I'd contact the embassy (by phone!) and ask them what they advise - they're bound to have been asked 10 times today already!  I know you've said you tried to email them, but this is too important to not call them.

Oh wow! Oh I'm so pleased for you!!! Really hope youg guys are back together soon. My man is going crazy bk in the states. Hate the time its taken but what can we do......anyway. Will check that link now. Thanks so much for always being so helpful. Keep me posted on your next step.

Ah, I'm one of the fortunate ones. We're DCF because the husband is in London now.  His UK visa expires end of July, so we're trying to get this done before then so we're not split up.  I feel for everyone who is apart though - I remember how horrible it was before he lived here.  It's really no fun. :(  You're nearly at the end though! It's THIS CLOSE. Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureslondon embassy documents again!

Forms gone in and medical is booked for July 2nd!!!!! Whhhhhooooo!!!! Do you think it will be long after medical that my interview can happen? What stage are you at?

I dunno! I reckon if your forms are in and your medical has no hitches, you could get an interview first half of August, but I'd mentally prepare for later in that month.  August isn't so far, right?  You should at least know *when* your interview will be before July is over.  Someone else posted today in the London section that they also have their medical on the 2nd July too, so maybe you should follow them and see how fast they get theirs: http://www.visajourn...tors/?p=6313342

I had my medical yesterday (all seems fine, not heard anything back from them, so assume OK), and my forms went in and were received on Tuesday.  SOOOO.. I'm fingers-crossed I get a date back from them in the next 2 weeks.  I might *just* slip in to a late July appointment, but I reckon I should just expect August and be surprised if it's sooner.

Hi! I have booked my medical today and I'm ready to post documents DS230, DS156x2, DS156K, DS157x2.

Woop! When's your medical? Forms gone in?

lost_at_seaFemaleUnited Kingdom2013-06-21 11:56:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureslondon embassy documents again!

So do you book your medical and your interview on the same day?

No. London books the interview for you (or, rather for K1 I believe the NVC schedules it, but it has the same effect).  You can't book your own interview appointment.

You book your own medical.  London needs to be in receipt of the forms and the medical results to get you an interview date.

These are the instructions you'll get from the embassy in "Packet 3", which is basically just a letter with your LND number (needed to book the medical) and a link to this page: http://london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html

The interview takes place some weeks after the medical.  About 6, going by current timelines (you'll get notified a couple weeks after the medical and forms are in, and it'll give you enough notice for the interview by 3 or 4 weeks or so, sometimes as little as 2 weeks notice)

Nope. Just send the forms as instructed on the website.  London doesn't want you to lose your important documents, so you take them with you to the interview instead.  You're probably looking at Step 2 on the link below?  You just send the DS-2001 and a cover letter with the info they ask for, and if you haven't already sent them, you can send the other forms too (DS-230, 156 etc. the list is on the right hand side and in Step 1).

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDS-156 question 29 have you ever been to the US?

You should try and complete the section as truthfully and completely as you are able.  If you don't remember, and can't check, then there's not a lot you can do about it but you should write down every trip, date and visa that you *do* recall.  You'll definitely need a continuation sheet. smile.png

Definitely include the time you were there while your dad was working in the US.  It was for a long time, so it's significant.

My full list of trips was about 20 visits to the USA since 2001.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWrong Embassy on the I-129F?!

and coming to the realization that the process will be a little longer is devastating to myself and my children.

It probably won't be longer (after all, there's no stats for Belfast because they've never done K1)! I don't know what estimate your lawyer or friends gave you, but a majority of the wait for most K1s after approval comes at the NVC stage, which would be the same regardless of the embassy your case would arrive at in the end.  The embassy processing after that NVC stage is very fast in London (compared to other locations).

Really, London is pretty efficient.  You'll get through just as quickly as everyone else who's in the UK!  I'm sure it'll all work out for you. Good luck!

P.S. If you're at NVC/Consulate stage, I really recommend reading this forum thread from the London section. It'll help you anticipate the next steps so you can get a jump on the system and have it move as fast as possible: http://www.visajourn...terview-thread/

P.P.S. Belfast DO do non-immigrant visas, just not the K1 (which is non-immigrant, also).

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWrong Embassy on the I-129F?!

I thought the same thing smile.png

London is at 4 months now?

Well, I'm making an optimistic guess having been watching folks go through the embassy parts recently. Once the case hits London they're getting a fair game on, so long as people are really on the ball getting medical booked and forms returned.  I'm am counting NVC in that estimate, btw.  NVC seems like a really variable part for a lot of people at the moment.

Example: once these guys had consulate received, they were done and dusted in less than a month! http://www.visajourn...e.php?id=149028    There's every reason to say that most people on London can get through the consulate part as fast as they can get forms returned (we're optimistically looking at an entire DCF case done in 3 months right now!).

London is a good embassy, and K1 filers who get to go there should be really pleased. It's easy to deal with, friendly and straight-forward as well as being one of the quicker ones.

Your lawyer is stupid.  Belfast doesn't do K-1s.  It's going to London.  London is fast, so how do you "know" that London is slow?  Do you have a lot of other K-1s?

Hah, well, London is definitely faster than Belfast (4 months versus never)! smile.png

Yet another lawyer not worth their fee. I found the info quickly via Google - wonder what they paid their lawyer to not spend the 30 seconds doing that.  There should be a blacklist for these people.

do you have any updates on what happened with this? I am in the same situation as my fiancé lives in Scotland. Our immigration attorney told us to put Belfast down as the consulate to use and we just received our NOA2 this week so its on the way to the NVC. However when I called the NVC they said all petitions for the UK go to London and any in Ireland go to Dublin. Is Belfast not an option for I 129f petitions? I know the office in Belfast processes things much quicker than London so we really don't want it heading to London.

I don't understand how you'd get your case sent to Belfast, anyway, if you don't live there. I'm pretty sure they only do a different embassy if you're resident in that area. Otherwise everyone in Scotland and Wales would try and put their case through Belfast?

Belfast does handle non-immigrant visas, however (K1 is non-immigrant),but they don't handle K cases: http://belfast.uscon...rant-visas.html

"Belfast does not issue Treaty Trader/Investor (E) visas or Fiancé (K) visas. The Embassy in London is responsible for issuing E and K visas to residents of the United Kingdom."

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureswhich one is much faster; getting a fiance visa or a marriage visa?

unmarried. currently, my application for a k1 visa is being processed at CSC and theres a chance that it could get denied. im not sure if i should refile or apply for a marriage visa coz im not sure which one is faster.

But it's not denied. You shouldn't refile unless it is denied. You'd be best off not worrying what to do next until you see how your current case turns out.

K1 and CR-1 can take the same amount of time, in the end. There's not a huge amount of difference in the two, time wise.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWorried about amount of evidence for Affidavit of Support

That sounds like plenty! London is extremely lenient in their requirements for evidence of financials for K1 (which I assume is what you're doing if you're completing the I-134). They've been known to accept only pay stubs as proof of income for the I-134, so you've got more than enough.

P.S. Complete your timeline! http://www.visajourn...approval-dates/

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresProof on an ongoing relationship sent with the I-129F Package?

One of the things we included was a timeline of our relationship with all of the visits we have had back and forth listed and explained. We then included the copies of each of our passports (all pages) the dates on the entry stamps then back up and confirm our timeline. The nice thing about this is it shouldn't take you very long to put it together because you can have your fiance scan their passport pages and send them to you electronically to print and include in the packet, should be able to it in an afternoon.

Hope this helps!

I actually did that! I made a timeline of all our visits and I scanned and printed out all of our passport stamps to show those visits really happened. I'm almost done with my package. Tomorrow I'm going to print some photos of us together at a photo place and buy a folder to put all the papers together and an envelope to ship it in. Thanks for your advice. :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresProof on an ongoing relationship sent with the I-129F Package?
Thank you for your replies everyone... It's helpful. Well I don't think I have to worry about it too much then, Finland isn't considered a high-fraud country. Finland is apart of the Visa Waver Program, so he doesn't have to get a visa to visit the U.S. I could always provide some proof of an ongoing relationship just to be safe I guess, but it seems pointless and would take so much more time. I don't have any phone bills of us talking to each other, I just use a calling card to call him. He has phone bills of him calling me, but it's in Finnish which means he would have to get it translated into English... For now, it seems like that will just take so much more time to do that, and I just want to send the I-129F package to get the whole process started... But, I am going to send photos of us together, travel itineraries from the past two years of visits, boarding passes (From what he saved, unfortunately I didn't save any of my tickets when I flew to Finland because I didn't know I would need them in the future) and photo copies of all of stamps in both of our passports. Even though it only asks for proof of meeting in the last two years, I am going to tell them of all of our visits in our almost five year relationship. Combining all of our visits together over the last five years, we have been together in person for two years and one month, which I think is pretty good... I'm hoping it will look good that we have been together for this long and have met up as much as we have, since we are obviously not rushing into this marriage very early into our relationship.

Again thank you everyone for your advice, I just wanted to make sure...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresProof on an ongoing relationship sent with the I-129F Package?
So, is it really necessary to have proof of an ongoing relationship sent with the I-129F Package? Even the instructions to file for Form I-129F don't ask for proof of an ongoing relationship, just proof that we have met in person within the last two years. I know I will need proof on an ongoing relationship later, but for now, is it ok if I send the I-129F Package without that information? Does it look bad if I don't? Of course I have proof of us meeting in person in the last two years. I'm curious what others have done. Thank you for your help, I am currently working on the I-129F Package now. I am excited to start this process. My fiance was visiting me in the U.S. for the past three months and he just flew home yesterday. I miss him already.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow long is the K1 visa valid?

Well this is a simple question and i think i do know the answer but i am just making sure of this

i have been told or read on dif websites that

1. Once approved the K1 visa is valid for 6mths in total (3 mths to get into the usa and once in 3 mths to marry)

and

2. Once approved the K1 visa is valid for 6mths ( to get into the usa) and an additional 3 mths (90 days) to get married once in the usa

Just to make sure which one is correct? I have a big feeling it is the 2nd one but have read on some websites that it is the 1st one.

thanks all

K1 is valid usually for 6 months from date of issue or as specified in the "Valid until field". Note there is no requirement that you must go to the USA within 3 months or 90 days, only requirement is once you are in the USA you must get married within 90 days and hopefully until then your K-1 is valid too. If not, you can just file for AOS and the noa you receive in lieu of AOS protects your status.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow to get a skype log from iphone
Thanks for the link. After my post I did a bit of research and found out that if I can extract the main.db file that on my iphone (skype app) and replace it with the one on my desktop then I can see the same log and able to export (via copy & paste) into word or excel. I used two type of software to achieve this, iFunBox to copy the main.db from my iphone 4s and then SkypeLogView to view the data (or you can replace and open skype via desktop and copy from there).

I hope this help those who had the same question as I did.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow to get a skype log from iphone
Hi all,

For the past week I've been trying to find a way to print out my skype log from my iphone (4s). I saw suggestion on doing a screen capture (print sceen) from the phone but I have months of log and that would be just too much especially when it doesn't have a date stamp (just the name and time stamp). When I tried to log into my account via desktop, I can only see "missed call" in my history but no successful incoming or outgoing call log has been captured. I was wondering has any tried to get a print out of skype log recently (using the latest skype for desktop v. 6.+ and the latest skype app for iphone)?

Please help me out. I would appreciate any suggestion even if it means downloading another software (preferable free) that would help capture the date/time stamp as well as the duration.

Thank you!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion about Form DS-156

I too have visited back and forth from Canada to the U.S. since birth.  In fact I was a green card holder as a child as my USC father was working in US for 7 years.  When we moved back to Canada I have always lived close to the border and would go to US for lunch or evening out.

In trying to be prepared I have started completing my DS-156 and have typed out a sheet that states,"to the best of my knowledge" and have then listed known dates and unknown dates I put a bullet stating from this year to this year I made multiple day trips across the border at  named border crossing.

I don't know if this is going to be satisfactory but a suggestion.

Good luck to you!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresChange of address for Beneficiary(abroad)
Hello!

Quick explanation of our situation: I am the USC, my Irish fiancé is the beneficiary, we both live in Ireland. We filed nearly 4 months ago now, and we provided my mom's address in California for the correspondence with USCIS. So we received our NOA1 hard copy no trouble and my mom will be able to forward us the NOA2 hard copy when we receive it.

We have moved address in Ireland. My concern is for when our case is sent on to the embassy in Dublin, Ireland. They won't have our correct address in Ireland to send us the packet 3 and so on. How do I fix this? And when? Should I wait for our NOA2 an then contact the embassy? Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow to pay I-129F application fee from abroad?
That's frustrating! Sorry to hear that!

My fiancé and I live together, so when we filed the i129f, we both put out Irish address on all the paperwork. We got our electronic NOA1 a few days later. 2 weeks after getting the email NOA1, we still hadn't received our hard copy NOA1. We got an email saying that our hard copy NOA1 had been sent out and returned back to the CSC. For some reason it was undeliverable to our Irish address, not sure why. So we just ended up changing the address to my mom's address in California and that solved our problem. They then sent out another NOA1 hard copy to my mom's address.

I don't think our situations are they same, sorry I can't help. Good luck!
What I mean by saying I don't think our situation are the same, is that our problem was that they could never deliver mail to us in the first place, not that they were missing any address for the petitioner.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow to pay I-129F application fee from abroad?

Thanks Jamie.

Have you received any feedback yet?

I have heard three different things now on who the money order shoudl be made out to

1. USCIS (the dublincons@state.gov email)

2. US Embassy (by the place I paid 16 euro to talk to)

3. Dept of Homeland Security (you and the instructions on the filing form)

I assumed it wouldn't be to DHS as on the instruction form it says

1.The check or money orders must be drawn on a bankor other financial institution located in the United States and must be payable in US currency AND

2.Make the check or money order payable to US. Department of Homeland Security

3. If you live outside the United States, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands, contact the nearest U.S. Embassy or sonsulate for instructions on the method of payment.

No feedback, no RFE, our NOA1 was 3 months ago. I wouldn't listen to the Dublin Consulate because as of now, you aren't dealing with the Dublin Consulate, you are dealing with USCIS. I know that the instrucations say to ask your local consulate if you're filing from abroad. But that is referring to HOW to make the payment, ie what type of check to send, not WHO to make the payment to. From the instrucion packet, from where you quoted, #2 makes it clear that you are to make the check payable to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
