US Embassy and Consulate Discussioncriminal backgrounc check
Anyone that can tell me how long it took from the time of sending in the paperwork for the background check to getting the actual results back , that would be great? I haven't gone for my fingerprinting yet (YES we do have to get them at our local police station) and I'm just wondering about the time frame. Do you take the results with you to the interview or does the rcmp send them directly to the embassy? Thanks guys. :help:

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWowza....

You don't need an appt letter as far as I know. You need your number that Montreal assigned to you and is listed on your packet 3 letter.

I got packet 3, booked my medical and then got my interview date. Montreal is not too speedy with interviews right now so you should be fine to book your medical now.

I would call and see how far in advance you need to book your medical and that will give you an idea of if you will be able to schedule it like you want to.

Thanks cristy. That's what I'm going to do.

Thats a tough one, I guess you will have to untiil you know when your interview is going to be....huh

I guess so. I'm just freaking cuz I don't know how long the window usually is from when u get the interview date to when the actual interview is and whether there would be enough time to conduct a medical in there. I'm assuming its about a month-2 months from the time u get ur interview letter to time of interview. At least that's what I've been going by on ppl's timelines.

 I got packet 3 today :) That was fast. The letter from the NVC that Jon got was dated July 17th and my packet 3 was dated July 19th. Things are REALLY moving foward which means I'm more stressed now LOL

I have a question about the medical. It says to arrange for one now, but I don't have my interview letter with my interview date so how do I know when to schedule it? Especially since you need the interview letter at the appointment? I'm stressed out there won't be a big enough window between the time I get the interview appointment letter and the actual dateof interview. Is it ok to wait til you get ur appointment letter and then book the appointment?

My fiance was going to come and go to the interview with me and we were thinking of doing the medical like a week before the interview. I don't know how long the waiting list is for getting a medical either....are you able to book it quickly or is there a few months waiting period? Can someone who has done it tell me?? Thanks.

P.S It says on the checklist to arrange the exam.....what exactly does this mean? How can you book an exam when you don't know the interview date and don't have the appointment letter in your hands (which you need to go to the medical)

PPS Sorry if this sounds messed up. I'm a little nervous.

Cali

Did your packet three have any medical providers listed that you have to go to to have the medical done? The paperwork from Korea says to arrange the exam, at the medical facilities they list on the forms. I think the medical is good for 6 months. For Korea all you have to do is give them your NVC case # passport and 3 passport photos at the time of the medical. My fiance is going to his medical before the interview. Check your paperwork and see if there are any facilities listed that you can call to schedule the appointment at. I would call the medical provider listed if there is one and find out what they need for the medical.

Yes I have a list of doctores to call about the medical. I guess I'm not being clear enough. It says in packet 3 that you need the "appointment letter" (with your interview date on it) to get into the medical. Well I won't have that until after I've sent in my checklist and the checklist requires you arrange your medical exam first. I'm confused because I don't have any ide of when the interview date will be so I don't know when to book the medical for and if my "appointment letter" will be here in time for the interview. I wanted to go and do it a week or two before the interview but I can't do that if I have no idea when the interview date is. Everyone following? I'm frustrated about this all because I don't know the interview date and want to do it as close to the interview date as I can because.....then Jon can go with me. It would be hard to find someone else to take me since I don't drive and I don't live in any of the cities where doctors are available. The closest one to me is Toronto which is 2 hours south of me.

Fiance got in touch with the Montreal consulate today...

He was told I'm on a waiting list for my interview and it will take 4 months. The earliest I will have my interview will be January unless I am somehow moved up on the waiting list. This is crazy! Are there really that many people from the eastern half of Canada wanting to immigrate on a fiance visa to the US? I think they just like to drag their feet is what I think. Oh well. My fiance is going to visit next month and I'm going to get my medical and police check taken care of. I just pray that it is not 4 months. That's too damn long and by then it will have been a full damn year waiting for this to all get sorted out. Meanwhile...others are let in within a matter of months.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionReceiving visa by mail
Hi everyone. I'm just wondering for those of you who used the option to have your visa's xpressposted to you...how long did it take to receive it? We are scheduled to fly out tomorrow and its still not here. We've talked to the consulate and it was shipped on Tuesday and its supposed to take 2 business days. Just checked the mail and its not there. We can't track it cuz there is no listing of it (we've talked to the post office) so we have no clue where it is. It's so frustrating! All of this work to be together and now there's another hold up. I am tellin you I want to pull my hair out. So if anyone could give me an idea of how long it took you to receive your pkg......it would be appreciated!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)NVC case under additional processing

I was in the same boat, I bet if you call NVC again and get another agent they will just tell you that it can take up to 4 weeks before application is sent to Embassy.

When I first called NVC I was told my case requires additional processing, I called right back to another agent who told me that case will be sent out to Embassy next day. (GO FIGURE). In my case the case was really sent to Embassy the next day.

WOW! you were right! I took your advice and called them again today. The lady I talked to said that they already forwarded my petition to the Embassy. I guess "additional processing" in nothing more than "we are working on it". Thanks everyone for all of your advise. :)

I've seen it go 7 weeks or so in the case of BKK. Look here:

OMG! A month and half wait in that case. I hope that is not our case. Thanks for the info. We will prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)NVC case under additional processing

I would recommend to just sit back and wait it out.

K-1's usually bounce through NVC to the embassy.

Since your military expedited - you should experience a shorter wait time.

I didn't know that the USCIS military expedite carried over to the NVC. I thought it was only expedite until the USCIS was done with it. Are you sure they NVC carries over the USCIS approved military expedite? Thanks! :)

National Visa Center (Dept of State)NVC case under additional processing
I have a question...I just received the NOA2 in the mail yesterday. So today, I called the NVC, just in case. I asked for my case number, which they provided to me. When I asked for an estimated processing time at the NVC, they operator told me that our case is under additional processing? That doesn't sound good. But when I asked what that meant he only told me that soem cases go through additional processing. What is that really mean? Has this happen to any of you? If so, how long did it take your case to be forwarded to the Embassy? Thanks for your feedback.
Juan & NanMaleThailand2011-03-01 20:36:00
National Visa Center (Dept of State)how long with the nvc?

USCIS approved our I-130 on February 18, 2011. I have been calling NVC everyday and today (February 28, 2011) they FINALLY received it, but told me it may take up to 6 weeks to recieve our NVC number??? Is that correct? It seems as if other people are getting their number & packet a lot sooner. Is there anything I can do to expedite this process? I just want to be with my husband :(

Timeline:
8/14/10 Marriage Ceremony (Sacred Valley, Peru)
8/20/10 Civil Wedding (Wanchaq, Cusco, Peru)
10/9/10 I-130 Packet Mailed via EMS (Honolulu, HI)
10/12/10 USCIS Receives Packet (Chicago, IL)
10/20/10 Petition Routed to the California Service Center for Processing
11/16/10 Received Form I-797 for I-130
11/19/10 Sent I-129F (Honolulu, HI)
11/23/10 USCIS Receives Packet (Lewisville, TX)
11/29/2010 Petition Routed to the California Service Center for Processing
12/6/2010 Received Form 1-797 for I-129F
2/18/2011 I-130 APPROVED!
2/18/2011 I-129F RFE Mailed
2/28/2011 NVC Recieves Approved I-130

It does not sound right. I got my case number the day after they recieved my approved petition from USCIS. I would call again and talk to another person. If that doesn't work I would ask to talk to a supervisor in order to get the right information regarding your case. But there is not much you can do to make the case go faster.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)how long with the nvc?

got out NOA2 on Feb 3rd and they JUST received our case at the NVC on the 14th, seems to be a little slower so I wouldn't worry!

Pardon my ignorance, but I also received our NOA2. how do I know when the NVC receives it? Do they notify me via email like the USCIS or via mail? Thanks!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Lawyer says I caused a delay

So I wanted some opinions from people on here who know more than I do about this stuff.

I hired a lawyer to deal with the messy paperwork stuff. But I wasn't planning on sitting on my behind in the dark while he waves a magical wand.

So when the USCIS sent me the acceptance to my I-130 I immediately took it upon myself to find out if it got to the NVC. I sent an e-mail. They responded very quickly saying that yes it had arrived. SO I forwarded the e-mail to the lawyer to let him know. After all... he is SUPPOSED to know this stuff before I do right? Or he'd like to think so.

He sends me an email saying that I should not be contacting the NVC without consulting him and it's possible that I have just delayed my case.

How on earth would that be possibly? Is it possible? Or is he just angry that I did something on my own?

All I asked was if it had arrived there or not. And they told me to wait 17 more business days before I get the NVC case number.

Why would this delay a case?

On the instructions on this website it says to do exactly what I did.

He is full of it. What an idiot. I did the name thing and my case was in and out I a few days.

My son and I are on IR1, we're waiting for our interview schedule a month or couple of months from now. i was wandering, if we still have to pay DELBROS for DV?does everyone has to undergo DV from the NSO or for some certain cases only? what if i paid DELBROS & the Consul won't request for document verification?

we have already or MNLxxxxx case #. can i just used this in paying even if we don't have interview sched yet?

our case was complete last july 3, 2008, does anyone here has any idea when can we have our interview date?
catedelacruzFemalePhilippines2008-08-13 05:55:00
K-3 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresno passport yet
envy me is right about the DV. you would have to pay 1300 for you and your son. its 650 per document verification per person. passports usually take 10 business days (roughly 2 weeks) before it can be processed/released (based on my experience with the DFA - had mine delivered at my doorstep through 2GO).

make sure you have everything completed before you set an appointment date so as not to complicate things.

this website can be of help to you check it out: http://manila.usemba...v/wwwh3023.html

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresG-325a question

I'm filling out the G-325a form and it asks for a File #. What is this and do I have one? lol. Then at the bottom it has a box for Applicant and asks for an Alien Registration #. Sorry for the questions but I don't want to do anything wrong that is going to hold this process up. Thanks

On the G-325A, the file # and Alien registration number are the same number. It is possible you have one if you already came on the US on a visa (like student visa). Most likely, if you only came on a tourist visa or use the VWP you don't have one.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)How can a plane ticket be purchased?
I think you will find that most travel agents accept international major credit cards, such as amex, visa and mastercard. You can just book it in her name, but use your name and address for the billing information. Try searching for travel agents in the Philippines that arrange flights to America, or look to see if any major US airlines have a Philippines based website for booking... they should accept your credit card. I am sure that if your fiance went to a travel agent in person, she would not have to use a card, but could use cash.... GOOD LUCK!

Yes, he is in status..... he will be for another 2 or 3 years after they are married...

So, he can adjust his status immediately, and this wont jeopardise his studying in any way??? Although the university would not be aware of what is going on, it is best to be on the legal side.... can you study when you are in the AOS stage?

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhat should they do?
Ok.... a friend of mine is at University in Chicago, and will be there for another 2 years or so. He is from Sweden, and has a Student visa.

He and his fiance (American Citizen) would like to get married this december!

I am concerned, as there will be a long period of time between their wedding, and the expiration of his student visa.

Where will he stand once they are married, and would he apply for a K3, using the I130 form? Would he wait and do this after his student visa, or try and adjust his status from J1 to Resident immediately? Is that even possible? Surely this would mean he would have to go back to Sweden though, and there could also be the common K3 visa application risks....

I dont think a K1 would be appropriate though, as he has to finish studying, and that application would cancel his J1 visa, wouldn't it? Plus, that wouldnt be ready by december...

Thanks for your help!

And then she asked me to repeat the date...why didnt she just ask me that, instead of making me read it all!?? "oh, we have not received it, call in 4 weeks"?? She was talking really slow and being rude, I was getting really annoyed! LOL

I went through the K1 journey, so am not too sure on the procedures for a K3....

A friend of mine, however, is over here on a three year J1 visa (and yes, he will have to waiver the 2 year residency). He is getting married to his (US Citizen) fiance this december.

What would the procedure be? Will he have to go back to his home country once the student visa is over, and have an interview? Or will he just adjust his status and remain in the country whilst he applies for his green card adn continue his studies?

Thanks.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview

Hi to all VJ Members.....jz want to ask something....M currently working here in the Middle East, jz got here last February. My fiance and I sent the I-129 last April. Will the embassy in Manila give me enough time to file my vacation for the interview? We usually have the filing of vacation process for 45 days here.

Any idea?

Thanks...

Good question. It seems to be taking somewhere around 4 months from the time the embassy in Manila receives the file to when they schedule an interview. My plan is to wait about 30 days after ours gets there and then start giving the embassy a call to see if my fiancee's interview has been scheduled. I have noticed some people are not receiving their packets with appointment letters for the interview and medical until just before they are scheduled. It looks like people are getting their interview scheduled long before they get their packets in some cases. But if you call and they have it scheduled they will tell you even though you don't have your packet. Should have at least 45 days to plan for your time off from what I see from the Manila embassy timelines.

Thanks so much. We didn't hire a lawyer for this and this site helps us a lot. God bless to both of you... (L)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionGot the Visa!!! now an airline question

Well it took about 7 months start to finish, but my fiance finally got the visa in the mail a couple weeks ago. Her interview lasted all of 10 minutes. Needless to say we are both excited. She has been back to her province in Mindanao visiting family and friends. We both decided that she would fly here to the states beginning of september. Now to finda a plane ticket which leads me into my latest question.

I am able to get a decent fare for my fiance and her child through northwest airlines. My question is can I purchase the ticket online for her? I know the philippines has some weird rules for their citizens when they leave the country. I am just wondering if I should buy the e-ticket or send her to a travel agent there and send the money. Anyone who has dealt with this please let me know. For those of you still waiting good luck to you and if you have any questions let me know.

Ingat ka,
